Diner Reviews
  • "We were taken aback to be seated outside on the adjoining deck, which overlooks a public beach....a beach where people were grilling, picnicking, etc. It's nearly attached to a Days Inn Hotel. The prices were that of a 5 star restaurant and yet, the rest was anything but. So many other quality places to done in Maui. "

  • "Good: Awesome views, sunsets. Friendly staff. Lots of staff, well trained Bad: In-house photographers are determined to ruin the moment for diners, by placing smiling tourists in front of us as the sun sets. Please Fix: The menu - way too much going on here. Some flashes of excellent cooking are masked by the presence of strange, salty, off-balance ingredients. Stop relying on salt, and let the food speak guys. Kudos to: The dessert guy. "

  • "Bugs everywhere, millions of black, hard shelled bugs falling in your food. Never seen anything like it. Cleared the restaurant in 30 min."

  • "We were very pleased with this restaurant. The table on the patio provided a spectacular view of the sunset. The food was good (not great), but the service and the view made it worth it. We eat out often at a variety of restaurants (mostly on Vegas), and Sarento's had the best service."

  • "Great ocean view! Food was not good and the prices were ridiculously high for what it was! I have ordered plain bolognese pasta and it was too salty, and way overpriced! My husband ordered lamb and it was overcooked! It was one of our most expensive meals during our trip to Maui and by far, the most deceiving one! My husband and I travel extensively and we are real foodies and appreciate low-end to high-end budget restaurants and this one has been one of the most disappointed one for the food, and given the high price, it is a ripoff!"

  • "This is a great restaurant with fantastic food. We requested beach front seating and they graciously accomodated our request. We were celebrating our anniversary and they acknowledged us for it and bought us a lovely dessert. The Shrimp Scampi is a must with light angel hair pasta done perfectly. If you are not used to this restaurant they have a team of servers assigned to you and in the past we have been overwhelmed with them constantly at the table filling water/wine but this time they were better once we told them we didn't want to be topped up consistently. A must in Maui"

  • "From the moment we arrived everything was perfect, from the warm greeting by the hostess, to the final goodbye, this restaurant is definitely one you should experience. Perfect sunset views and spectacular food and service. Don't miss the dining experience at this establishment."

  • "Food overrated. they tired too hard to make the food "special" but the individual components did not compliment each other."

  • "We left our dinner at Sarento's for our last dinner before boarding the plane. We arrived a little early for our reservation but were soon seated for dinner with an amazing view of the Au'au Channel & Lana'i beyond. The service was attentive without being obtrusive & timely since we after all had a plane to catch. We had the Calamari Fritti to start which is the perfect size for two to share. Excellent! For entrées we had the Grilled Hawaiian Ahi & the Pan Roasted Island Snapper. The ahi was a little overcooked but was luckily paired with goat cheese gnocchi which was melt in your mouth delicious! Would definitely recommend the snapper which came with some spicy sausage & clams. A wonderful fusion of old world Italian & island cuisine."

  • "I had called in early to request a window table and when I arrived, we were given a special table near the window. Very nice service. The waiters knew when to keep out of sight, refilled our glasses consistently, and knew when to make conversation. The food was extremely delicious. We got to see the sunset which is something I highly recommend. Overall, fantastic service."

  • "Excellent food and excellent service in a great location on the beach. The calamari appetizer was the best we've ever had. We had the roasted chicken as the main. Generous portions and just the right seasoning made this a delicious meal. For dessert we had the creme brûlée, again excellent. We can highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "We've eaten here twice in 2 years with a family of 5. Food is good for Maui, we really haven't found any fine dining that rates 5 stars on island yet. Prices are high - but we eat here for the sunset on the beach. Members of our party liked the steak. The onion wheat focaccia bread for the appetizer is very good. Eat here for the sunset and whale watching - solid 3 stars on food."

  • "We were seated on the patio beside other couples. We were able to watch the sunset while dining. The patio was fairly quiet compared to the main restaurant. It was a bit hot before the sun went down. The service was excellent. Staff were always there when you needed them but did not intrude too often. Food was good but the setting and service made this a perfect evening. The chocolate profiteroles for dessert were excellent but a bit too heavy after the meal. Could not even eat half of it."

  • "Service, food, beverages and setting were all superior. Attentive staff worked as a team to ensure we were happy. Large portions of delicious food. Beautiful Hawaiian setting on an outdoor patio under the palms on the beach. Sarento's did it all. Bring your wallet though. This dining experience was pricey. $150 for two entrees, four drinks and one dessert. Included a well-deserved tip."

  • "One of our favorite places. We come here every time we in kihei. The service cannot be beat. The view is wonderful, especially When the whales are nearby."

  • "When you make a reservation through open table for this restaurant they seat you wherever they want. My understanding was that this was a first come - first table choice restaurant, this obviously is not the case and most of the prime tables were open through most of our dinner."

  • "They made our anniversary dinner absolutely perfect. The food outstanding. The service was terrific. Our waiter had the kitchen make a lobster fra diavlo dinner that wasn't even on the menu. The Mai Tais were smooth and the scenery was stunning. Only issue was $20 for a table side picture. Seems excessive and like a cheesy touristy thing to do. Overall, this was an incredible meal. Highly recommended!!!!"

  • "We went to Sorrento's on the Beach for a Birthday dinner. The restaurant does sit right on the beach. I informed the staff with my reservation that we were celebrating my wife's 75th Birthday. When we arrived we were seated promptly, The wait staff did wish my wife a happy birthday. The Dinner went well, although a bit pricey, we did enjoy our meals. At the end of the meal I had to ask the staff for some sort of celebration desert for my wife. You would think that after spending $400 for five of us for dinner they would have thought about bringing the small scoop of ice cream and a cookie (birthday desert) without asking for it. Oh well, maybe they just forgot............lol"

  • "I had the fresh catch and my husband had veal. The portion on the fish was just OK (not appropriate for the price) and the sides were not satisfying at all. All-in-all, not a good value. My husband's dish was a nice portion of veal but his sides were not prepared as described in the menu and he could not eat them due to a food sensitivity. He's very careful about selecting foods that meet his dietary needs but abhors having to complain or send something back so he wouldn't say anything."

  • "Have consistently had a wonderful experience at Sarrentos. One of our all time favorite places to dine in South Maui. Try to come before sunset and enjoy watching the sun sink into the ocean!"
    Dined on 2/26/2014
  • "Our food was good but not something I would describe as "special" in any way. Most tables were empty but they had a lot of waiters....a different person came to our table throughout the meal. It was odd."
    Dined on 3/2/2014
  • "The food was significantly overpriced. Food obviously sat under heat lamps and was soggy/overcooked on arrival. The sauce on my plate was burnt to the plate. Service was attentive but completely overbearing as a multitude of servers were constantly asking how everything was. At times there were three servers at our table. It did not allow you to build up rapport with one server as it never seemed to be the same person. On a bright note, desert was on the house without us complaining as they thought the food was slow to get out. They tried hard. Too hard. In the end it's a tourist trap."

  • "We've been to Sarrento's many times. Our night started out when we checked in with the hostess. She sat us way in the back of the restaurant when there were many tables open closer to the beach. When we asked if we could move she said they were very busy that night with a lot of reservations but that she would ask the head hostess. She never returned. Then when I ordered a glass of Proseco it was flat. Can the waiter or bartender not see that there were no bubbles? The food was just so so and seemed to have been sitting somewhere under a heat lamp. After coming to the restaurant since it opened it seems to have lost something. We usually go to Sarrento's the last night of our vacation. I don't think we will be back."

  • "My daughter and I love this place the service is great, the food is amazing and the location can't be beat. We ordered the mussels with a nutty type of crust that was to die for. We also ordered the ahi tuna with gnocchi and that was delicious as well. To top it all off as we drank our wine and watched the sunset a humpback whale jumped out of the water and the golden orange sun in the background illuminated the breath taking event. The only down side to a wonderful dinner and show was that I was too mesmerized and did not take a picture of the whale."

  • "We had eaten at Sarento's on a previous trip to Wailea and other than the nice view, we were not impressed. Since a couple of years had passed, we decided to give the restaurant another try and we are glad we did. The food and service were both considerably improved and we had a very nice dining experience. The food was very tasty and the service very good. We will definitely return on our next trip."

  • "Well I should have took the bad reviews by heart and booked somewhere else. We got married on a nearby beach and after the ceremony sent our six guests to the restaurant. An hour later we arrived and they were given drinks but I thought they would have been giving the choice of an appetizer while they waited but said "no the staff said they want to wait until the whole party is here" now when you're dealing with aging relatives it's kind of a big deal if they don't eat. Regardless to say it took an hour before we got our very pricey, small portion appetizers and an additional hour after that for our dinner. The staff was very slow and two of them had THE WORST body odor I've ever encountered. I was apologising the whole time and still am!"

  • "We were given a nice table outdoors, which we asked for. Waiter pleasant but quite uninformed/ignorant about wines. We had three different folk wait on us and it was a bit confusing. one was talking with us when a new table came in and he said he had to go and greet that table, someone else would be by. We are in our 60s and 70s and well-dressed, why do young people persist in calling us "guys"? We both find it offensive. Food was good but very large portion; kept trying to get us to order dessert, which we did mot want.in vacations passed we have been here three times, always for a sort of special meal. This did not feel so special this time, but I expect we will return with lower expectations. The place can be noisy."

  • "A very memorable dining experience. Service was very attentive and the food presented and served well. Meals were delicious and arrived hot. The sunset was also one of the best we have seen on Maui. If you are dining before sunset, be sure to bring sunglasses and expect to be quite warm if sitting by the water. My only concern was that service dropped off a bit as the evening wore on and the restaurant became really busy. Our coffee cups were not refilled until we were ready to go. Otherwise, fantastic and we would definitely recommend it to others. Valet parking was prompt and courteous."

  • "Breath-taking view. Non-pretentious fine dining. Prices reflect location rather than quality of service. service is good, but less attentive than expected for 4 diamond. warmly Italian, but rotating servers = longer waiting time for placing and obtaining orders. If you have any food intolerances you will need to remind each server, which can feel like they are less attentive, even if you have forewarned. Typically fine dining options provide cucumber slices or gluten-free bread, to replace the provided bread, for those who are GF/ celiac, allowing guests to feel involved with their group, rather than isolated. Worth a try if you are willing to spend the money."
