Diner Reviews
  • "We had a great dinner. We were sat outside off to the side in front of hotel rooms; it looked like add-on seating which I thought was a little weird but ended up being very nice. It was quiet and we were right next to the beach. There were people sitting on the beach 5 feet away from us enjoying the sunset which I thought could be awkward but again, it was just fine. The service was great, everyone was very attentive. At least 4 different people served us throughout the night but then the gentleman who first seated us did say he was going to be "one" of our servers. Food was great; we had the osso buco and lamb. The two reasons for the 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is on the expensive side and they forgot about one glass of wine."

  • "We had one of our best meals here on Maui. If you like Osso Buco as I do, you will not be disappointed. The service was impeccable and the sunset view is second to none."

  • "It's a beautiful spot along the water, especially at sunset. Excellent wait staff and ambiance. My wife had the spaghetti and meatballs, which she really liked. I had the local snapper and was disappointed. It came floating in a broth with clams and Portuguese sausage. The cilantro was so strong that all I could taste was that and the spicy sausage. A shame, because the fish was nice and fresh and flaky."

  • "Have been coming to this restaurant on summer vacations for several years and have started to notice the menu and service has been on a steady decline. . The server recited specials, never looking at us. We both got the mahi mahi that was about a three once piece for 48.00 . It was cold, bland and considering mahi is about 9.00 a pound I thought it was a ripoff . The sauce and vegetables were just so so. The dessert were never that impressive in the past but we listened as the server recited from memory looking off at some distant planet never looking at us , we did not order any dessert . My suggestion is Four Seasons has wonderful restaurants with great service. We will not be coming back to this restaurant in the future ."

  • "Service was VERY good. The seafood was fresh. We wished we had a table right on the wall to the view, but not a huge deal. The highlight may have just been the free bread which was delicious! we couldn't stop eating it and then we were pretty well full by the time we got our dinner!! We aren't fancy food type of people but this was a very nice restaurant for a celebratory type dinner."

  • "It's hard to imagine a more beautiful and perfect place to end our trip to Paradise. I had read other reviews and was anxious to try it. When we pulled up to a budget hotel, I almost didn't go in. But the valets and numerous awards on the wall made me try it. If I had missed it, I never would have forgiven myself. The food, service, wine, and setting right on the beach made this place #1. (They must not be connected to the hotel by the way.). The icing on the cake was a professional photographer who takes your picture on the beach as the sun sets, a much better souvenir for $20 than the leis most restaurants hawk. I'm still dreaming about the outstanding food and service. RUN, do not walk, to Sarento's an hour before sunset! Heavenly!"

  • "This restaurant exceeded my expectations from the service to the food to the beautiful view of the setting sun!"

  • "We had many restaurant recommendations for our last night of vacation. Sorentos did not disappoint. Amazing seafood, and pasta and one of a kind meatballs for the kid carnivores. Wine menu impressive, dessert to die for, and did I mention it is on the beach? Service was stellar. A great end to a fabulous vacation for our four adults and three big kids."

  • "Excellent location, great place to enjoy dinner and the sunset. Service was perfect, very attentive. Spaghetti was delicious, grilled ahi was okay, piece was a bit too marbled. Less expensive than mama's but still pricey - 32 bucks for spaghetti..."

  • "Location and service outstanding. Food was mixed. House salad was a real disappointment - thrown together, limp lettuce. Main course (veal picatta) was very good but not what I expected - more of a salty sauce than just a light butter/caper sauce. Wine prices are still unreasonably high but by the glass is OK."

  • "We have been coming here for several years and it has been a Maui favorite. This year the food was terrible, we sent back the calamari and two of the entrees out of four were very undesirable. "

  • "Beautiful view. Great wine list. Crab cakes very good. Caesar salad very good. Entrees were very ordinary. Waiter disappeared after serving entree for 10 minutes Poor service. Manager was good to make it right Might try it again "

  • "The Wait Staff was great. They came around just at the right times--when you needed them and/or when you wanted them to be. They didn't hover over you at every moment. They were pleasant and good mannered. We had a nice table, the food was good and they gave us a kamaaina discount without asking for it. Overall a great dining experience!"

  • "We are foodies and have experienced outstanding restaurants all over the world. Sarento's on the beach in Maui is outstanding! The staff lead by Michael Santa Maria will make you feel as if you own the place....and the food is absolutely delicious. "

  • "Sarento's on the beach- is a great restaurant with beautiful sunset views. The food was fantastic. Homemade pasta with fresh seafood, delicious crab cakes. "

  • "I've made it a point to eat at this place every trip to Maui, but must say the service and quality of food has really gone down hill. I had to pour my own wine more than once and ask for it twice. Just as we were completing dinner we were attacked by little black bugs and even had one land in a glass of wine when one of us was just taking a sip. We had to request a move twice before one of the waiters allowed it. Every other time we've eaten and Mike Santa Maria took care of us it was great. To bad he wasn't there."

  • "We had a nice Mothers Day breakfast here. The service was a bit odd but the view and it being on the beach made up for it. Food was pretty good, nothing really stood out but we all enjoyed our food. "

  • "Our dining experience was exquisite, a beautiful setting! The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back on next visit to Maui and certainly will refer Sarento's to family and friends. We loved the fact that our waiter was efficient but not overly attentive, which allowed conversation. And the wine selection was outstanding! Lovely evening!!!"

  • "This place is run by the same group that has Nick's Fishmarket. The quality is very good and if you are lucky you can watch the sunset. Pricey, but worth it. Located at the southern end of Kihei, it is within walking distance of many of the condo's in the area."

  • "This restaurant has a lovely view as it's situated right on the beach. The food was not worthy of the price as there are other places on Maui that are equally or more expensive, yet the food is much better. The service was unconventional as we had a few waiters take care of us. All in all, very average yet expensive."

  • "My girlfriend and I are from Chicago and that makes us foodies. The crab cakes are the best we have ever had and the snapper was out of this world. The food, the atmosphere, and the service was impeccable! Highly recommend!"

  • "Food was fair, view was great, service was way to casual was expecting more class act considering prices."

  • "The staff was friendly and attentive, the wait staff were a bit too helpful... always at the table doing something. The location, table, linens, etc. were great! As for the food I was disappointed the pot stickers were gummy and bland, the sauce was the only thing saving it. The ahi tuna was average - the spiny lobster was a bit overcooked. "

  • "Great view but very pricey food. Many better options on Maui for the price. At the price I was expecting blow my mind dinner. They did not deliver. "

  • "Sarentos obviously caters to the tourist crowd especially given it's location. Being a local resident we new the local fish and some of the menu items. The staff were friendly knowledgeable and did not hover around the table. The appetizer was fresh and tasty. The bread was fresh. The main courses were very flavorful with the portion size leaving us with a late night snack or lunch. Price was standard to what you would expect from this type of restaurant. "

  • "Located right on the beach, the restaurant has great views of beach activity, the ocean (a few 100 feet away) and great food, wine and service. We started with Chopped Salad “Gabriella”, Maui Onions, Cherry Tomatoes, Romaine Chiffonade, Feta, Baby Artichokes Bay Shrimp, Avocado and followed with Penne Bolognaise House Made Italian Sausage, American Kobe Beef, Veal, Pomodoro Cream Sauce Griddled Goat Cheese, Panzanella Salad and Grilled Hawaiian Ahi Served Medium Rare, Goat Cheese Gnocchi, Triple Blanched Garlic Purée Puttanesca Sauce along with several excellent wines. Great food, service, atmosphere and reasonable prices. Highly recommended."

  • "I came here with my mother and friend for my birthday dinner. The "on the beach" is completely true, we had a wonderful sunset on the beach and the breeze was just right. The food was lovely and service was top notch. As with most things in Maui, the prices were expensive. I asked and received a table up front with beach view. "

  • "Service was very poor and food was marginal would expect much better service and food from a restaurant charging 5 star prices. "

  • "We had good experiences dining at Sarento's in the past and has been on our "list" of Wailea restaurants to enjoy during our Maui vacations. However, Sarento's appears to be in a "transition" phase with inconsistency in menu preparation as well as service. On the evening we dined we noted that the usually consistently attired wait staff was obviously short staffed and supplemented by several managers. The benefit was the usually frenetic pace of service was mildly subdued. Meal was inconsistent as the ordered calamari appetizer arrived cool and we sent it back to be refreshed. However, the main course dishes, especially the Clams and Linguini were fine in taste and presentation. "

  • "We've been to Sarento's 6 months ago and had a great meal. This time it was quite unpleasant. The Ahi sashimi had an odd flavor because of some sauce which prevented tasting the fish. The entrées were overcooked, dry, and unappetizing. The view is beautiful and the service is attentive, but a bit pretentious. We won't be back. "

  • "For our farewell dinner we choose Sorentos instead of Mamas. Very good choice!"

  • "We almost didn't go here because of some negative reviews and we would have missed a perfect evening. Expensive? Yes, but nice, special restaurants are expensive and even more so on Maui. For our family of 7 it was worth it - a combined birthday and farewell to the island dinner. Our table had a beautiful view but I think every table has a beautiful view. The service was attentive but not intrusive. Tables are far enough apart and noise is not an issue. The chicken and the pork was a bit overcooked or I would have given the food 5 stars. I would return to this restaurant and I would recommend it. "

  • "Great seaside location. Lots of people around the property due to large hotel next door. Not the luxury setting you would find in Wailea hotels but convenient and service was good. Food was above average but not memorable. Kids were running around tables without restraint. "
