Enjoy Ristorante Cavour, Hotel Granduca’s first signature restaurant. Ristorante Cavour offers unique Northern Italian cuisine.
The warm, intimate restaurant is the vision of Giorgio Borlenghi with design of Ermy Borlenghi Bonfield—the talent behind the design of the entire hotel. In keeping with the old-world Tuscan feel, the space is small and intimate with warm colors, flickering candlelight and antique prints gracing the walls. The name of the restaurant was inspired by, Camillo Benso, conte di Cavour, the former Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia. He worked in Torino under King Victor Emanuel II and is known for unifying Italy in 1861. Count Cavour became, in that year, the first Prime Minister of Italy.

  • "We went to Cavour on a last minute impulse. The elegant dining room, skilled, efficient and quiet service, the attractive scenery both inside and outside the restaurant made for a great start. The menu, while limited in the number of selections, was all attractive and the taste and presentation of the food, exquisite. The wine list is extensive and covers all areas of the world with quality selections. The ability to talk to your dinner companion without yelling was such a delightful change from many of our more prominent restaurants in Houston that we will be back to thsi place, and often."

  • "I needed a special, unique location for my 15th anniversary dinner. After reading numerous reviews of this restaurant, I booked a 6:30pm Saturday time slot. Being an anniversary dinner, I was hoping for a quiet and romantic experience. That's exactly what I received! The ambiance was beautiful and quaint. The service was absolutely top notch. They made us feel like we were the only diners in the restaurant (which we were for a while). The vast variety of food was all prepared perfectly, and the portions were great for a multi-course seating. The wine, which was recommended and not on the menu, was a delight. I can honestly say that Ristorante Cavour helped make my anniversary a huge success. I will be returning!!!!"

  • "We have eaten at Cavour about 10 or 15 times. It is usually quiet enough to permit conversation. The service is prompt and attentive, but a little unsophisticated. Sadly, the food has become mediocre. I had gnocchi that was too big and too soft, although reasonably flavored. Branzino, a delicate fish, was overpowered by a strong tomato sauce such as one would expect from Olive Garden. I don't think we will return, despite the relatively pleasant ambiance."

  • "4 couples dined there Saturday night, all ordering different cocktails, starters, entrees, wine, desserts, etc. Rather than ask for 4 separate checks, we said just add it all up, and we would each pay 1/4. 45 minutes later, we inquired about the check, and were told they were still working on it. When it arrived, there were 4 receipts, each over 24" long, with every item appearing 4 times at 1/16th of the value. I don't know how they made it so difficult! My advice: just ask for separate checks and don't try to make it easy. The food was great."

I am glad we made reservations because our out of town friends were staying at the hotel: now we have a new favorite Italian restaurant that we will visit many times."

  • "My wife and I dined early on a Saturday night and had a very pleasant experience. We were greeted by name at the door and had a nice table by the window. This was our first visit and we were pleasantly surprised as we didn't know much about the restaurant, but it seemed to have a good reputation overall...and we found that to be valid. The food was very good. I especially liked my mushroom gnocchi! It was a very intimate setting. The waitstaff were attentive without hovering. It was pricy but that was expected and overall we felt we got a good value. We also stayed the night at the hotel which was also very nice with a lot of Italian character and unexpected in the midst of a busy metropolitan area."

  • "The service was poor to the point of non existance and being seated near fussy infants did not help. They seemed more interested in selling their imported bottled water (their bottled water menu was offered twice) than the fact that the food did not come out correctly (near rare insted of medium) and nobody even asked how the food was. This was a major dissapointment."

  • "This was our first time visiting this restaurant. We were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary and it was the best selection I made by opting for Cavour. Remarkable and friendly service, great food, quick service. I even requested to be sitted in a table that would not interfere with any of the other patrons as we were with our daughter and they catered to us greatly. Definitely coming back and one of our favorites. Thanks to Anita, Diana, Brian, and Nancy as they made this experience a wonderful one."

  • "A perfect evening. It was my 60th birthday and also our wedding anniversary. They had set a special table with flowers and candles in a area by ourselves. We had a drink in the quiet bar/lounge area with a fantastic piano player and then went to our table. Service was good, food was good, they made a special cake for desert. We then retired to the patio and had a nice cigar under a gas heater. A perfect night."

  • "My wife and I were looking for a romantic, quiet, quaint restaurant with good food and a relaxed atmosphere. We were not disappointed. The wine list was extensive with a range of prices and the food and service were excellent. The restaurant follows the European tradition of providing a table for the night. Once we completed our dessert, the server provided the bill, at our request, and asked us to enjoy the rest of our stay. This is a great choice for a romantic dinner where it's possible to talk without shouting and there is no hurry to finish the meal. The menu focuses on quality, not quantity of choices, and prices are moderately expensive. We paid around $200 for a bottle of wine, two entrees and starters, and a shared dessert."

  • "We have been here on 3 different special occasions, one of which was Christmas day, last. The buffet was superb. Desserts could have been better, perhaps, but overall excellent in variety and quality. There was some slight inattentiveness in regard to water, coffee, etc. The ambiance was the reason I selected this for our Christmas dinner - the quietness - and of course the food. It removes itself from the "sittings" that occur with major hotel's, even places like the Houstonian, which is crowd focused. Hotel Granduca is not crowd focused, but individually focused, to present the best atmosphere possible in their setting."

  • "Ristorante Couvour has always been a nice and special destination for my wife and I and on occasions, with friends. Always enjoyable. Make sure to have a drink at the bar first... very refined and very cozy. The staff are always attentive and friendly. We went on Christmas day; RC had offered a special dinner for Christmas Eve and Christmas. Usually my wife makes a wonderful dinner fit for a Rockwell painting... but this year, we decided to go out for Christmas dinner. First thing: I had to thank each and every valet, doorman, hotel entry desk personnel, hostess, wait staff and server for being there on Christmas day. Greatly appreciated! That they were there for our Christmas day was wonderful. Second thing: The meal was perfect."

  • "My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at Ristorante Cavour and enjoyed every morsel of food. The appetizer we ordered was the Gran Piatto Del Granduca which consists of a half dozen seasonal oysters, gulf shrimp, king crab leg and blue prawn with avocado ceviche which serves two. Loved the quality of this seafood! My husband ordered the veal chop which was cooked perfectly and was very flavorful. I ordered the Lasagna tre Formaggio made with handmade pasta. The tomato sauce was fresh and light with pieces of fresh tomato and herbs. Dessert was profiteroles with pistachio gelato and drizzled with chocolate. Nothing was oversalted and was made with fresh products. Loved the imported Italian decor. Beautiful and a must try!!!"

  • "My wife and I have been having brunch here about once every month or two for the past few years. It is our favorite Sunday brunch in all of Houston. They offer a wonderful variety of food at the buffet tables. The staff provides five star plus service by being VERY professional, courteous, and friendly. The complimentary Mimosa, and Sangrias just add to the overall great experience. We will keep this jewel on our favorites list for many years to come."

  • "I rarely write a review as I travel and usually with an expense account. In essence this means that I pretty much know what I'm getting into before I dive in. EXCEPT with mom and pops... Well, this is exactly that, a mom and pop but done to the nines. The pasta (at least the lasagna and ravioli was fresh, aka made daily by the chef)... Yep, you heard it here, go for the pasta! Of course they had meat dishes (a restaurant won't survive in meattown USA without them), however I implore you to try their pasta. Houston has a dearth of "real" Italian spots that pride themselves on homemade pasta, alas we have found one. Yeehaw, and sooiiiieeeee! BTW - the atmosphere, staff and wine list were also very good. Happy food-ing!"

  • "We have enjoyed Cavour over the years as a quiet refuge with outstanding cuisine. Issues with our most recent meal: (1) a wrong antipasto dish was delivered (quickly corrected); (2) my secondo piato (a very tasty gnocchi) arrived lukewarm since the serving plate was not heated. The rest of the experience was stellar. Cavour has the ambiance of an elegant club rather than that of a commercial restaurant. The staff is young, cheery and attentive. My "cocktail di gamberetti" was extraordinary, with large but very tasty shrimp elegantly displayed on a bed of ice and a cocktail sauce with exactly the right amount of zing. My wife was beyond pleased with her branzino. Our guests were very pleased with the evening."

  • "My wife and I went here for our second anniversary. They knew who we were when arrived at the door. As I had requested they had reserved a quiet corner table, and eve gave us our choice of two that fit! The waitstaff were all excellent and the food was very good as well as beautifully presented. I had an outstanding Veal Chop and my wife had fish. We both were very pleased with our choices. We enjoyed a split of Rose Sparkling Wine to begin and a split of Brunello with our entree. They presented a small chocolate mousse dome with the sentiment of the evening written on the plate. The latte and expresso completed a lovely and successful anniversary celebration."

  • "We chose Cavour because we wanted to have conversation to celebrate a special friends' birthday. They were short staffed, did not have their Prosecco chilled, so we waited until we thought they had forgotten us. Then I had our waiter open and serve the sparkling with ice on the table so we would have something to drink. We had to catch the staff's attention several times. The osso buco was ok, but the honoree's pasta with truffles was not good. Knowing that it was a birthday, they did serve a small portion of a dessert to her but there was no presentation, We did have good recommendations for reasonable wines. The atmosphere is lovely, but the service and food does not add up."

  • "This is a small, cozy restaurant where you will actually be able to hear your dining companions. Dress code is pretty formal, most of the men were wearing jackets. The food was very good. I especially enjoyed the watermelon salad. The fish was cooked perfectly, it had a nice crisp outside, but not overdone inside. Service was good, but a little too much. It was a little annoying to be asked by 5 different people if the food was ok after each course. None of the staff seemed too confident in their English, but we were able to communicate fine."

  • "The meals were great! Service was wonderful. Scenery could be better as the view is the front of the hotel where valet parking spaces are. While the cars parked there are nice, I would prefer some greeneries to soften the view. Valet was a bit updraft as well."
