  • "The choice and variety of size of the menu options was excellent. My favourite dish was the mushroom doughnuts. My vegetarian main wasn't overly flavoursome or interesting (roasted carrots, lots of sunflower seeds with a cream sauce). The best dessert was the white chocolate cheesecake. My flourless chocolate cake didn't blow me away. The cocktails were good. We were impressed with the wine knowledge of one of the waitresses. Unfortunately, we had the worst table in the restaurant despite a booking. To be fair, they sat us there instead of us having to wait for our booked table to become available. We were right in front of the door, in the middle on a large bench making it more difficult to hear over the din."

  • "We were celebrating our 3 year anniversary and both had the Chef's tasting menu. Absolutely amazing, every dish had a new unique taste we'd never experienced before - a foodie's paradise! One of the chef's even came out and served us our dessert. It added a special touch to an otherwise already special evening. Cheers!"

  • "We've been trying to eat at Rich Table since they opened, so we were surprised when there was an opening on a Monday night. Clearly the hoopla is O-V-E-R....so many empty tables when just a year ago, their snobby hostess turned us away saying they were booked solid for the next 30 days out. Our first bad impression was having to enter our credit card to book the reservation. Hello, this isn't the French Laundry. Y'all are making some "fresh" artisan bread and pasta. Big deal. I don't normally write reviews but felt compelled b'c we were so DISAPPOINTED. 1. POOR SERVICE 2. COMPLETE LACK OF KNOWLEDGE BY THE WAITSTAFF. Girl couldn't even intelligently talk about their overpriced cocktails 3. PORTIONS SMALL 4. OVERPRICED 5. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE"

  • "Had been looking forward to this after all the hype. Sorely disappointed. Food was generally very good but incredibly small portions! Waiter told us that the dishes suitable for sharing -- yes, if each of the four people in your group want one bite of pasta. Not an exaggeration -- a ~$20 pasta dish is approximately 4-6 bites. They allow 2 hrs per table which was not enough. And they are not shy about telling you to move on. We were not offered desert and the waiter put the check down while we still had full glasses of wine. Total cost was over $200 / couple and we left hungry and went around the corner for desert and a more pleasant and leisurely bite to eat. Will are not planning to return. There are too many great alternatives in SF."

  • "What they do well, they do really well. The porcini doughnuts with raclette sauce and the bread & butter are not to be missed. They recently expanded their wine list, but the cocktails were all really good too. I would go back for small bites and cocktails. They do offer walk-in seating at the bar, you might just have to wait nearby in Hayes Valley until your spot opens up."

  • "I really wanted to love this place. It had been compared to some of my favorite spots - State Bird Provisions, Cotogna, and Frances-but it did not come close. I waited months to get a reservation and really looked forward to the evening. The food is very, very good. It's unique, creative, and delicious. My only complaint was the crab pasta, which only had a few whisps of crab and was $18. It was the atmosphere, or lack thereof, and the service that disappointed me. There is really no ambiance here, and it's extremely loud. You can hear a full conversation at the table beside you. The server was snobby and smug, and just generally couldn't really be bothered to be friendly. Sadly, I would say it's overrated and won't return."

  • "Rich table is fantastic. This was my third or fourth visit to Rich Table and I finally scored a reservation and got a chance to sit at one of the coveted tables instead of at the bar. Don't get me wrong, the bar is great too and the servers there are just as attentive and pleasant as at the tables, but sometimes it's nice to sit at a table. The food is interesting and flavorful in particular the pastas which are amazing."

  • "We decided to go all out and try the Chef's menu, which was phenomenal. Between the three of us, we must have tried the entire menu. When I said I was a pescatarian, they kindly replaced my meat course with fish. It was fantastic. Even if you only go for a quick meal, you HAVE to order the dried porcini doughnuts. I could have eaten those all night."

  • "We had a wonderful experience here. We ordered the tasting menu, which afforded us the opportunity to sample the gamut of the restaurant's fare. Our service was fabulous and the staff very courteous and knowledgeable. The sardine chips and beignets with raclette were of course favorites, as was the steak - divine. The pasta courses were also interesting. This place is fancypants and meant for special occasions unless you have the metabolism of a five year old and the budget of Bill Gates."

  • "Rich Table continues to be our favorite restaurant in the city. Service is warm; wine list, filled with interesting gems; decor, industrial rustic yet cosy; and food, without peer. Even after the slew of starters and bites, I really felt like eating meat (which I rarely do outside a steakhouse) -- perfect medium rare steak was topped with roasted broccolini with the brightness of salsa verde...or was that a chimichurri sauce. So delicious my eyes rolled back into my head. There are a handful of great restaurants in the city. Of that group, even fewer are able to deliver consistently and yet wow you each time. Rich Table is one of those very few."

  • "Doughnuts were good (but I expected better after reading reviews); chicken liver mousse was good, bread was okay (but not worth it for taste or calories). However the cauliflower was great! Savory /flavorful with crunchy texture added to the top (bread crumbs?), slightly charred, creamy sauce of cauliflower /bone marrow on bottom. I will attempt to recreate at home once my siphon arrives in the mail. Next time I will skip the apps and just go for the main dishes."

  • "I work in a vaguely similar styled chef driven restaurant in Winter Park, Florida and could not wait to dine at Rich Table. Food was stellar, every ingredient could be individualized and be delicious yet combined for a composed bite. Service was attentive. Very by the book, they had trainees on the floor. Dessert took a tad longer than expected. That was the only lapse. This restaurant, like many SF restaurants, are tight. Don't come expecting any distance between you and other guests. If the hostess had chairs and forks they could have been at our table dining. With some many excellent dining options in San Francisco its hard to pick one. Be sure to add this to 'your list.'"

  • "The food here is fantastic - adventurous combinations that are delicious, too. The servers are genuine and personable while being totally professional. I'm always sure to save room for dessert. Last time, it was an eye-opening sorrel sorbet, and a chocolate torte with oro blanco, pine nut ice cream, and torn mint leaves. Superb. The pink grapefruit and elderflower refresher was one of the best things I've ever tasted, with or without alcohol. And a shot of homemade Irish Cream liquor was a little sip of heaven. I also highly recommend the porcini doughnuts for an appetizer."

  • "This was our first time at Rich Table. And it was wonderful. The cocktails were delicious, especially the house made Irish cream for dessert. And all the food we ordered was superb. I would highly recommend the broccoli soup. My fiance ordered the steak and said it was the best he has ever had. Its a great spot for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. The service was great too. The staff were all attentive, friendly and had great recommendations. I can't wait to go back!"

  • "My difficulties trying to contact anyone at Rich Table group quickly vanished when we arrived. Our waitress was so knowledgeable and helpful in determining just the right amount of food to order, and she also knew a lot about the wines. She gave us wine tastes to determine which would be best. We all loved all of the small bites (porcini doughnuts, sardine chips, chicken liver mousse), salads, and pasta or main courses we had. A few of us especially loved the papparadelle with chicken and pistachio-coffee crumble. The combinations of flavors with every dish were very complimentary and imaginative. We all agreed that we had eaten some delicious, innovative dishes and that Rich Table deserved an excellent review."

  • "Went here for my birthday dinner last night, and have to say Rich Table didn't live up to the hype. The food was inventive, but not that tasty. We ordered the Chef's Pick menu. It was a good deal for the amount of food, some things were ok (mostly first courses - oysters, sardine chips and porcini doughnuts) and some things were very disappointing (the steak dish was completely bland, overcooked, and all gristle). The service was lacking, I'm not even sure we had an actual server. Also, the meal took 3 hours so don't go for the 9pm reservation. It's probably better to go to the bar and order cocktails and starters. Sorry, Rich Table. I wanted to like you."

  • "I heard about Rich Table in a magazine and after reading about some of the food, I had to check this place out. It was my anniversary with my boyfriend so decided to take him there for a special dinner. We both did the Chef's Picks, which consisted of 8 courses, each more amazing than the last. We didn't do the wine pairings with each course, but our waitress was very knowledgeable about their wine selection and helped us pick one white wine that went well with every course. The Chef's Picks isn't cheap, but it was well worth the money. We got to try many dishes off the menu we wouldn't have gotten to try otherwise and some dishes that aren't on the menu. I highly recommend trying Rich Table out!"

  • "When a restaurant like this one comes with a pedigree (rising star chef duo, well known sommelier, one of America's hottest new restaurants in their first year), the bar is set pretty high. My dining partner and I felt our server misguided us to order more than necessary so we felt beyond full before dessert even arrived. Plus customers' favorites that we ordered didn't seem to strike a chord with us in the same way. Suggested wine pairings were off so we opted for cocktails. We just weren't as big a fan as we'd hoped we would be considering how often we dine out to similar restaurants. Food was consistently high quality, but we also expected a lighter styled cooking. Be prepared for a splurge as it's also a hard reservation to get."

  • "The service was impeccable. Our server was especially good, volunteering suggestions without defaulting into a salesman role. Everyone working in the restaurant was attentive, including the expeditor who seemed to develop and accent when describing each dish that arrived at the table---kind of like Milla Jovovich's character in Bladerunner. We weren't served any dishes that we didn't thoroughly devour---from savory doughnuts to fresh pasta with pistachios, and a tres leches dessert with fresh lime and salt that was a highlight even for this non-dessert lover. My only complaint is that there were few greens on the menu, which we would have appreciated given the otherwise rich meal. We can't claim that we didn't have forewarning though! Go!!!"
