About this restaurant

  • Innovative
  • Good for groups
  • Good for special occasions
Restaurant IPO is an upscale restaurant in New Orleans, Louisiana, that serves elevated Southern-style cooking and comfort food. Everything in Restaurant IPO radiates a sense of Southern class, charm and refinement. The lighting is warm and low, inviting guests to come in for a unique and flavorful meal. The menu is full of delicious and ambitious dishes, often times with flavor combinations and ingredients that diners do not typically see every day. The Southern tapas are an interesting treat, as they are filled with bayou eggs and bon temp shrimp. Another fun menu item is the duck poppers. These are bite-sized balls of duck, cream cheese, jalapenos and bacon. For those looking for something more traditional, the Cuban sandwich at Restaurant IPO is a local favorite.

Went here for the first time for our anniversary. The food and service was great! The place was a kind of loud and we were practically sitting with the table next to us. We loved the variety of small plates available and will go again.

Cool little spot in the heart of Downtown Baton Rouge. Food was AMAZING. I thought the service was a tad slow, but my family thought it was fine. My husband had the Duck - wow! and The rest of us had the Ribeye, so tasty and cooked to perfection. Super cool spot to dine, casual, very good vibe.

The food is awesome. We tried the Duck Nachos and Frites with blue cheese and truffle gravy for our appetizer and had the Debris Sandwich and Patty Melt for our entrees. The flavors are complex and everything is well seasoned. The only thing I would change is the beer selection, which seems to be lacking some variety. I live across the street so I definitely will be back.

I have been to IPO on several occasions and while service has never been exemplary, it has always been acceptable. Friday night was neither. I want to be clear that I do not believe that this was our servers fault. It seemed that he was the only server in the dinning room and was running everywhere. While this was happening someone who is presumably a manager of sorts, sat with the two hostesses doing nothing. Furthermore, since its opening IPO has slowly gotten further and further away from being a tapas restaurant. I guess this is fine, I'm sure there is a valid reason, ie. money, for this. On the other hand your execution of your new menu was poor. It is no longer someplace I would want to go with a group order lots of small plates and linger over dinner and drinks. It's now just another restaurant, and not a very good one at that.

While the food is good here, I must say that the service is horrible! I've only been to this restaurant twice but the first time(a year ago) was amazing and that why we decided to return. We had reservations for 7 but got there a little late (around 730 due to traffic. our bad). However, when we got there, we were overlooked by 3 hosts for about 4min. After being seated, our server brought us water and took our order for appetizers. We came for the chicken and sweet potato waffle donut. To our surprise they no longer serve that so it took us a while to decide on entrées and appetizers especially given the limited menu. While we tried to decide on appetizers (maybe 7 min) my boyfriend requested a Sprite as replacement for his water. "No problem" said our waiter. We got our appetizers about 15 min later. We were not given any dinnerware to eat off of so we shared from the serving plates. When we received our appetizers we put in our request for our entrees. When we felt a large gust of wind(mind you it's fall now so it's about 50 degrees outside) I look over and realize that the door to the restaurant is wide open! I then begin saying "excuse me" to every server and host that walks near or by our table in an effort to get the door closed. The restaurant dining area is small(about 2000 sqft(I'm from a family of cement finishers. Lee's Concrete(Shameless plug)) so when I realized that the door was open I started to look around and noticed everyone was putting on their coats and bundling up with their partners in an effort to stay warm. I was able to finally get a hostess' attention and asked her"is there a reason the door is open?" She responded that someone had told her that they were hot. She apologized and said she'd close the door. After doing so, about 2 min later we felt another gust of wind. They turned the air conditioner on!! Finally, about 35 minutes later from receiving our appetizers, our food came out with Sprite my bf ordered. Good food though.

A party of 6, we ordered many things. The staff brought out the oyster dish. It was supposed to be cooked, but it was cold. it had clearly been prepped for the oven (or however they heat it) but never cooked. when our waiter finally appeared again, I told him it had not been cooked. He said: "I didn't bring that out" and ran off again. That was simply not acceptable and suggests a lack of training. All the same, I like IPO and will go again. If he had simply heated it or taken it off the bill, I would not have writen this review.

The food was top notch. This is a great date spot. The service was a little slow but they were also hosting a large event. Despite this our waitress was still attentive. The cocktails were awesome as well. Show up early before your reservation and have a drink first!

My mother and Brother were in from Boston so we had a table of 7, as dinner was served the waiter told me the entrée I ordered was out. Unacceptable, I asked them if they were out of anything when we all ordered, they should have been able to tell me then that I would have to order something else. I did not get dinner and was not going to wait while they cooked something else since we already waited a good bit despite not having many customers in the restaurant on a Tuesday night. The waiter knew I was aggravated and should have sent the manager over, well finally my wife got up and asked the for the manager. He took care of the situation, but there should not have been a situation in the first place if they would have been on top of our order. Our family has eaten here many times before but I will have to think about coming back for while.

Each time I've gone to Restaurant IPO something on the menu has surprised me and left me wanting more. This time was no exception. The menu featured soft shell crab sliders topped with fried green tomatoes and duck bacon. Wow! What a flavor palette! I also had the tapas sampler, which had several dishes not listed on the menu, along with favorites like boudin balls. I hope my favorites, duck wontons and bacon-wrapped dates, make it onto the regular menu soon. This restaurant just gets better and better with each iteration of the menu.
