Opened in October 2001 with native John Besh at the helm, Restaurant August is the only restaurant to be awarded a perfect "5 Bean" score from The Times-Picayune in the past two years.   • "Our evening at August was a great adventure. No dish like we had ever seen before - from the special appetizer in an egg cup to the market vegetable chopped salad - wow! This salad was everything fresh from that day, lightly tossed with a mild vinaigrette - some watermelon, plum, tomato, squash, carrots, etc. My husband had the smoked goat cheese and peach salad with honey dressing. Oh my! And the entrees were not just beautiful, but, again, a twist on what you might expect - a trout pontchartrain lightly prepared and the snapper courtbouillon - a deliciously prepared snapper, surrounded by a rich, thick sauce - not the light liquid expected. Then, the banana pudding desert, again presented in a completely different way - delicious!"

  • "I heard good reviews about August so I was expecting impeccable, friendly service with great food and ambience for dining. I was not as pleased. The food was good but the duck and beef were too rare. I guess it would have been nice for the restaurant to ask how we would like the duck and beef. The veggie entree was a larger portion of the appetiZer which I was not that happy about. The service was okay and compared to the service I've experienced at other fine dining restaurants I was a bit disappointed. I mean hot water for my hot tea was not refilled. My friend didn't get a knife for her fish, she ended up with a butter knife. I didn't even get a fork for my entree because the staff had cleared it after my salad."

  • "Outside it was a horn honking traffic crawling boisterous mess. Inside was let's see....what is that word, oh, right--PERFECT! Foie GRAS was out of this world. The bread was the best I have ever had in town. The salad was an amazing rainbow of flavors, gorgeously presented and almost too pretty to eat. They call it a chopped salad but it deserves a more elegant name...radishes, squash figs, tomatoes a sweet bite, a pickled bite, every forkful different. Dessert was a white cholate dream. Gracious, refined, charming, PQERFECT! Thank you John Besh! Cooking from the heart indeed!"

  • "Went to August for their Friday lunch. When I first saw the price 20.14 I thought they were dating the menu. The price for a three course lunch was $20.14. What a value! They sure don't skimp on quality. All of the entrees on the regular lunch menu were more expensive than the three course lunch. The Pate Campagne appetizer was a generous portion with an excellent taste. The entrees were wonderful and the desserts were big. Don't let this pass."

  • "Our Server and her Assistant were top notch. Unfortunately, their expertise couldn't overcome what was an extremely average (at best) meal. The presentation of every dish was exquisite. But, after just one bite of each dish (sampled 5+ separate menu items) I was already disappointed. This place has a cool vibe, exceptional service, beautiful presentation and average (at best) food (taste). The problem with that is the price. Food needed to be better."

Each dish is unique, beautiful to the eye, and great to the taste. Flavors are combined in new and exciting ways and textures include combinations which surprise and delight you. Local farms provide as much of the fruits, nuts, vegetables and meats as possible. The The wine cellar is extensive and the staff is extremely knowledgeable in wine pairings. Chef John Besh has created another winner in AUGUST. We were welcomed into the kitchen and INVITED back for another experience. Foodies will LOVES this restaurant!"

Very small portions and The captain went over the Degusation menu all other tables except mine. I've eaten at other John Besh restaurants and they were good. I was very disappointed for the price of the food and the portions. I would not recommend this restaurant."

Their attention to detail and ability to suggest courses that would flow together well really helped us along on our journey through the menu.   • "I took my fiance to Restaurant August for her birthday. We were graciously greeted at the door and immediately felt welcomed. We started with the eggplant steak w goat cheese. Excellent. They also served an egg in its shell which was more of a custard then topped with something that gave it a crunch. Very tasty. I had the pork loin that was also served w pork belly. The pork belly was too fat for my taste. Pork loin was very tasty. My fiance had striped bass. It was presented well. She enjoyed it! For dessert they presented a lemon soufflé w raspberry ice cream. They wrote happy birthday on the plate for my fiancé. Very knowledgeable waiter. Very good service."

  • "I was in town for a business dinner with customers and was extremely annoyed and disapointed with the service at this restaurant. While the food & atmosphere were fantastic, the service took away from our group being away to enjoy it. The service was stuffy & badly timed. When we needed something there was no one around to assist and when we did not need anything the server would be roaming around constantly staring down the table. We felt extremely rushed when ordering each course as well. When we would ask for more time, he would came back within minutes to take the order. Even though all tables around us were empty, we felt we were being pushed out. For such a pricey restaurant/ fine dining, you would expect a lot better."

  • "I brought my 12 year old nephew for a belated birthday dinner. He is quite the young foodie. We split everything and savored every bite. Foie Gras Three Ways was amazing! It's served with brioche toast. Hated sharing that dish! The gnocchi with crab and truffle - delicious. Squash blossoms, soft-shelled crab... Of course, I did not have my fair share of the award-winning banana pudding!"

The blue crab gnocchi is simply life changing. Do yourself a favor and have dinner here, it is worth every penny."
