Diners will notice new drapes, upholstery and carpeting, but the biggest change is a wall of opaque French doors that allows for more intimate dining on one side and the establishment of a private dining facility for groups or meetings on the other.

Offering Southern, inspired French cuisine, what we have is celebrated. The ambiance. The service. The charm. Your options range from sumptuous breakfast and lunch buffets to superior a la carte dinners in an elegant, traditional setting

Diner Reviews
  • "Once again, we enjoyed a relaxing brunch to celebrate a family event. The food is great....the atmosphere perfect."

  • "There are Sundays where I want a traditional buffet, where I can eat a ridiculous amount of food in pleasant surroundings. The Hotel Roanoke can be counted on to provide that tradition. Excellent piano music, mountains of good quality food and elegant table settings. I wouldn't change a thing."

  • "the atmosphere is great, and the service is incredible. however, the food is less than mediocre. I'm going to give this place another shot and hope this visit was a fluke."

  • "My husband and I both enjoyed your she-crab soup. He ordered and loved your crabcakes. I however, had the trout which was extremely dry and perhaps overcooked. A sauce might have helped."

  • "although the food was very good we were disappointed in the service/It was not what we expected from a 5 star hotel"

  • "The Regency Room made for an excellent wedding anniversary dinner. The food was excellent, staff was friendly and the ambiance was regal. The price is high but worth every penny."

  • "Everything was fantastic: food, service, atmosphere. Makes for a special night."

  • "Rare these days to find a good mix between youthful energy and old world elegance; I think the Regency does a fantastic job of combining the two, both in ambiance and food choices. Dinner music is an especially good addition to this lovely room, along with soft lighting, gracious staff, and tried and true Southern cuisine. Especially nice to revisit tradiitons which never grow old, and for which HR is famous for. Elegant, but not stuffy, The Regency is inviting to the younger set, as well as comforting to those of us who have been visiting the hotel for years. The staff and chefs do an excellent job of combining the old and new. Thank you for continuing tradition and gracious dining!"

  • "We had a wonderful lunch. Our service was outstanding. We will definitely return."

  • "Food was artfully presented with enough flair to be special, and enough "ordinary" to fit in the range of comfort food. All the staff, from the dining room receptionist, seemed unusually friendly and helpful. Vegetables were perfectly prepared to tenderness, and meat offerings were quite flavorful. One of our absolutely favorite places."

  • "I felt like my overall experience was very good. I was a little shocked at the prices however. I understand that you get what you pay for but I have had many good meals that didnt cost me an arm and a leg either. An entree, soup, and salad with water shouldnt have to cost $60+tax for one person. That feels almost criminal. Everything tasted very good, presentation was good, but the indigestion I experienced over the total cost for 2 people to eat made me think twice before ever going back."

  • "Went for the first time to celebrate my husbands birthday. Very nice, excellent service, romantic and excellent for a special occasion. They called a few days before since on my reservation I had put first time, and told them we were celebrating a birthday. Right after the meal, the waitress came and asked whose birthday it was and wished him a happy birthday, then they brought out a special dessert for him and the piano man played happy birthday! We will be back, great food!"

  • "The Regency Room at the Hotel Roanoke is a great place for a quiet lazy Sunday brunch. The food is excellent with an omelet bar and and carving station. Plenty of breakfast or lunch choices abound and the wait staff is very friendly and accommodating. While you likely can get a table if you walk up I would recommend a reservation because it can get crowded. The price is amazingly low considering the overall quality. If this were in a New York hotel it would likely cost 3 or 4 times as much with no better quality."

  • "Wonderful evening for two on a great evening in The Star City. The Regency Room at The Hotel Roanoke was vibrant with the American Songbook providing a special ambience. A smiggen of peanut soup and roast lamb (for her), She crab soup adn Appalachian trout (for me), and a brulee rice pudding concoction (for us) were perfect in all respects. Nicely seasoned, rightly portioned, and evenly cooked. Our server understood our need for a special evening without any rush...and Ken delivered. Wine pairings were appropriate and complimented the meal. Definitely one of the better dining experiences in Southwest Virginia."

  • "The Hotel Roanoke has a storied past and sharing in that history is The Regency Room. It remains the grand dame of eateries in Roanoke, and the ambiance is one of dignified southern style. Our recent experiences have seen the quality of food and level of service retreating from its glory days, and our visit on this occasion followed that trend. Among our six guests, food quality varied widely from plate to plate, and the service was abysmally slow. There were so few available servers that the labor-intensive Bananas Foster was declared unavailable for lack of time to prepare it. Special recognition for three birthday celebrants was a nice touch, but we came away thinking this once-special place has lost some of its luster."

  • "Wife's Birthday. It was a real hit. Stayed at the hotel, too. Filet was to die for. Good wine list."

  • "We loved the overall ambiance of the evening. The music trio playing in the background added to the overall experience and we didn't realize that we had been seated for 3 hours. Two individuals in my party had the New York Strip Steak, One had the Duck and Scallops, One had the Crab Cake and I had the Surf & Turf with a Fillet and Salmon which were exceptionally well. Everyone said their selections were great with the exception of the crab cake that had a "bite" to the seasoning and they could not finish their meal."

  • "Excellent hotel with great service. Dining room experience was very bad! My wifes steak was tasteless and way over done. Too bad cause service was excellent and my salmon was very good and the peanut soup was excellent. Overall the experience would have been great but who wants to pay $35 for a steak that's basically inedible."

  • "This was a family gathering to celebrate a birthday. My daughter had been a guest there for a wedding the night before. We enjoyed a wonderful brunch! The service was great, there was beautiful piano music, and the food was wonderful!"

  • "We went to the Regency Room for an anniversary dinner and it delivered beyond our expectations. Our Friday evening experience was one of great food, wine and service, all tastefully backdropped by a jazz trio playing the right music at the right volume. Both the restaurant and the Hotel Roanoke are unique gems that combine classic (story book!) ambiance and excellent value when fairly compared to the alternatives. We will not wait for an anniversary to return."

  • "Normally we try not eat at hotel restaurants but the weather was so cold we decided to give it a try. The dinning room was beautiful and we were graciously seated even though we were in our travel clothes. The food was wonderful and perfect service! We would not hesitate to eat there next time we stay at the Hotel Roanoke."

  • "To celebrate our Anniversary, my husband picked the Regency Room in the Hotel Roanoke. From the moment we were greeted by Lowell, we knew it would be special! My husband loved the peanut soup and as I did the Caesar salad. The filet mignon was perfection and my husband had the trout which he really enjoyed. It was all surrounded by excellent service by Meryl. I would highly recommend this restaurant, perfect place for a special occasion."

  • "Large family and friends group gathered for breakfast. There were 10 of us and the table was waiting for us with prior reservations. Hotel Roanoke has really done an outstanding job in the last year of improving quality and service issues. Have become a semi-regular there and will continue to do so. Great atmosphere and wonderful staff."

  • "The Regency Room is a classic in a classic old style hotel. It has great charm and ambience and the food is quite good. The waiters were a little hurried at the brunch during our visit and the omelet chef was spending more time organizing his station than paying attention to his burner. The oil got so hot in the skillet it popped out onto my shirt and face causing a bit of discomfort. While I told him I was ok it still was not what I expected from a skilled chef. I also did not like the fact that the food was spread out in two different rooms and the fact that no toast was available. The food was quite tasty and the price was excellent for such an upscale brunch. I would definitely recommend the Regency Room for brunch."

  • "This was my first time here, but it won't be my last. Everyone on staff made it their job to ensure my fiancé and u had an amazing dinning experience. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting or living near Roanoke."

  • "The menu at Regency is small but adequate. They try to locally source their ingredients which I believe makes for a tastier meal. The menu has small and large plate offerings which is so nice, as well as several nice salads. Their wine list is extensive. A jazz trio played the evening we were there and it added such a nice ambiance. Our server was very nice but things were slow----as was the case with all services at the Hotel Roanoke that weekend."

  • "There was a nice variety of food, and everyone enjoyed what they chose. This place was great for relaxing after a special event and enjoying the evening with family. It has a classy atmosphere and friendly service (Nina was great!). If you are thinking at all about ordering the She Crab Soup, you must do so -- it is superb."
