Diner Reviews
  • "You never have a bad meal here. Very innovative menu. Stellar service!"

  • "Good business lunch with a former colleague. Excellent wine selection. Food was good but not fantastic as I recall the former Cafe Annie."

  • "My friend and I popped in for a long leisurely lunch, and that is what we got. But we were not expecting to be graced by a sweet visit by Mimi Del Grande, Manager of RDG Bar Annie. She is such a sweetheart and so fun. We really enjoyed talking with her."

  • "Most food is pre-made, not freshly prepared by the chef (not leaving much justification for the high prices). Great presentation, but lacking in taste. Great ambiance of the restaurant."

  • "I think Bar Annie's is the coolest place in town. ambience is the very best."

  • "Really good food and service, but very expensive for what it was."

  • "Service was great, food was great, drinks were great! I would highly recommend my friends and family to your restaurant. Service was very efficient and fast. I wanted to order so many things on the menu the night we were there but I will def have to come back and try the other dishes that caught my eye!"

  • "Wonderful ambience, great selection of wine and the starters were yummy. The chicken I had was okay, a little dry and lacked flavor. My fiancé said that his lamb was ok and that he has had better lamb too. Overall, we liked the place but don't know if we would go back for dinner again."

  • "Like the restaurant and have been there often but Sunday night the food was poor, service worse despite a limited menu. Maybe it is best to go on Fridays and Saturdays when it is busy."

  • "The food was incredible, but I will always remember why I make this a rare visit. At 4x on wines, it kills some enthusiasm for this incredible restaurant. Pheasant was cooked perfectly. Portions and sauces were smooth and joyous to the tongue. I just wish I could justify more $900 dinners for 4."

  • "Service was great. Awesome customer service. Food was great.Only down fall is they don't split checks."

  • "Excellent service but food was not great. Quail appetizer was excellent but fish main course was poor. For the price would expect much better."

  • "I use this restaurant regularly for business lunches and will continue to do so. The food is great, the ambiance is very nice and service is reasonable. There was a bit of a mix up when the party I was meeting was directed to another table even though they asked for me and the reservation was under my name. This is unusual for this restaurant and will not affect my opinion of them at all."

  • "The oysters were tasteless, flaccid and grossly overpriced as was the rest of the meal."

  • "RDG+Bar Annie made my daughter's 18th birthday outstanding! As we arrived, we were greeted by an adorable Mimi, who offered that if we could wait just a minute she would love to give us special birthday decorations for the table that she just happened to have. This was so generous and so appreciated. I was impressed with the attentive service that we were so lucky to receive. Houston is full of fantastic restaurants but RDG+Bar Annie is exceptional year after year, time after time.. It not only has exceptional food, atmosphere and location but they have a way of making customers feel like they are the most important table in the room."

  • "Overall excellent food and experience! Dined with my daughter first time with my daughter. We both loved it, and I'll be back with my husband."

  • "Nice place, our table was close to the kitchen, would be better close to the window. Our biggest surprise was dessert, vanilla cheesecake was WOOOW, ♥♥♥♥ Love it!!!"

  • "The restaurant was way to nosie. They were hosting some sort of group anound the bar and it was crowded and loud. At our table the noise was not so bad. Our service was very good. We had 3 appetizers two of which were very small however the nachos were probably the best I have ever had! The main course was very good but the deserts were small and only average. We had a party of 6 and they included a 20% grauitidy which I almost missed. The dining is upstairs but the rest rooms are down stairs which is not convenient."

  • "Smaller portions with lower prices would be better. Portions are huge and not expected in high end restaurant"

  • "Enjoyed the meal, but the deserts were lacking. Three of us shared two deserts, all were in agreement they lacked the final touch to a wonderfull evening."

  • "As always, excellent with the best of service and great food and wine. Wine list is one of the best in Houston."

  • "I was excited to finally try RDG. I had been there for drinks before, but never had dinner. I was really surprised and taken back when we were seated on plastic patio chairs. One of the reasons I dine at the nicer restaurants, is for the dining experience. When you pay over $40 and entree, you should not have to sit on plastic chairs. The food was good, but nothing special and overpriced. The wait staff did a great job, except that we were not offered bread. There are so many really good nice restaurants, I do not know how RDG competes."

  • "Went in the day after valentines day for dinner to find out they were having "valentines weekend" after asking to order off the regular menu I was told I couldn't. The cheese plate was wonderful but then again it's hard to have a nasty cheese plate the branzino fish was a joke we payed overt the top for mediocre fish with Veleta cheese"

  • "The dining room was vibrant and the cocktails were a sumptuous treat for sue! The Ruby Roho was a delight and my sweetheart enjoyed the Fig Leaf. The steak special had delicious bleu cheese and bacon bits the size of dice cubes! Great decor, and a friendly manager!"

  • "Wow, what a bummer. We went to rdg for valentines day. First impression from walking in was, it's very loud. We sat close to another couple like close enough to join in their conversation on how bad their fish was. The table was decorated with felt hearts and candy hearts which I thought was cute. I was contemplating eating the candy hearts assuming they were for us when I saw the hostess rearrange them on another table with dirty hands for the next reservation. Our first dish was so overdone I couldn't even finish the bite. Having to send the dish back I was so discouraged I just skipped over the first course completely. The second course was better. Dessert would have been better at Dairy Queen, which we later went to."

  • "My wife & I recently had a evening visit to RDG Annie's and it was as good as always. A great location, ambiance galore, wonderful service and of course great food. One of our favorites."

  • "In Houston it seems we have a million great choices to dine. We decided to try out RDG being native Houstonians who have eaten at almost every Houston establishment. Although there are amazing new places popping up all the time, the old names of Houston tend to stick around due to their great food, service, and atmosphere...this adage did NOT hold true with RDG. The food was overpriced and underwhelming. Portions were very small, and the food on the plate failed to find the harmony and flavored necessary to live up to their name. The service was rushed when you saw a waiter, and painfully inattentive when you didn't. It almost seems like the only thing the restaurant carries from its great and historic past is its namesake."

  • "My first time since it was changed from Cafe Annie. It was fir Birthday Lunch and we all enjoyed what we ordered. They gave us the free desert for the birthday lady. Our waiter was great."

  • "I have been to RDG Bar Annie a number of times. I have always enjoyed the bar area and bar menu, but I have thought that their main dining menu items were never very satisfying. Unfortunately, they have revamped (in a negative manner) their bar menu and it is now equally un-inspiring. I have the feeling that this place may not be open in 12-18 months at this rate, which is unfortuante because I think it has a good location and used to hav a good bar menu."

  • "I was excited to visit this restaurant and bar based on the ratings and reviews. However, the entire experience was pretty blah. This place was found in the Southwest cuisine category, but I didn't see it or taste it. The menu was pretty limited, but I will say that what they did serve was good. The restaurant itself doesn't know what it wants to be. Half of it has a modern and upscale vibe, and the other half feels more like a banquet room at the Hilton. Overall, it was an inconsistent and underwhelming experience that we paid handsomely for."

  • "Disappointed with the service and quality of the food for the cost during our dining experience."

  • "Granted it was a slow night at the restuarant at an early hour, but we were impressed with the attention of the staff. Not intrusive and working in a team so you didn't have to wait for "your" server to stop by your table..we were welcome to ask anyone for what we needed at anytime. Orders were delivered in a timely manner ..not too soon ( we finished our courses and lazily drank our cocktails while chatting) and not too late ( no huge gaps between courses). Everything was done perfectly, and, as we tend to share most of our plates, the orders were pre-split for us which was gracious. . Very satisfied with the tastiness of the dishes that let the food speak as opposed to sugars and salts."

  • "The atmosphere, energy and food make this a great place for celebration or dinner for two. Menu always has unique twists on traditional fare like steak and chicken. Enough variety for every palate. Bar is one of best in Houston - especially when nice outside."

  • "...loved the eclectic and innovative menu. The wine list was also great ...a fan of the elegant but not stuffy decor"

  • "What a cool vibe at this place. And the food was high quality as well. Good service. Overall experience was outstanding. Highly recommend this spot for lunch and it seems like it would be just as good for dinner."
