  • "The great part about the dining experience at Providence is that this place truly is the total package. The food it top notch, well thought of creative and high quality. We had the chefs tasting menu and every course was notable. On top of the quality of the food what really was wonderful was the quality of service. They did not miss one beat! Every person who came to our table from the maitre d to the food servers all the way down to the bus staff were experts at what they do. This is a true dining experience and totally worth the price."

  • "The display of the food was nice, although the food was not as good as I expected. I had the price market 9 courses, my favorite was the uni steam egg, all because I'm a fan of uni. The Wagyu beef was the highlight of the night, everything else is just ordinary. Heard it was better before, guess the quality dropped since the hype is over. If it ever improves I would probably try again."

  • "Food Amazing / but you can't get out of there for less than $700 with Tip for 2 people. Special Ocassion for sure. Each course is an art piece for the taste buds. 45? For an 18 year old macallan whiskey. Is a little crazy over priced. In the end yes it's yummy. I would go once every 5 years there are so many places to eat in LA, that are just as good if not better."

Only disappointment was that we were not informed that the format had changed to tasting menus only (Open Table still shows the a la carte menu and the restaurant's web page is still under construction.) The doggy bag of a breakfast muffin for the next day's breakfast was also a nice touch."

And service was wonderful, more of a team effort that made our dinner a memorable occasion. Having been to other famous restaurants such as Daniel in NYC and The French Laundry in Yountville, we can confidently say Providence more than holds its own against other famous establishments."

  • "Providence is a beautiful restaurant and the food is creative, thoughtful, and delicious. It is generally considered the best restaurant in LA. Personally, although it is a wonderful restaurant, I felt it was great, but not LA's best, but that might just be personal taste. It's quite expensive (we spent 6 hundred for the chef's tasting menu and 2 drinks), and though it was a beautiful evening with exquisite food, we wouldn't go back for that value. All in all, it's a brilliant restaurant, but not worth the money in my opinion."

  • "This used to be my favorite restaurant specializing in v fresh seafood. Now this restaurant only has tasting menu. Beautifully presented amouse bouche. Main course was duck, wagyu or salmon. Seriously? I could get these anywhere else. The dessert almond dessert is uninspiringly served in a corner of a long white plate said to reflect negative space. My friend and I were initialing waiting for the main dessert to arrive. My chocolate dessert is ok but not great. Sadly, another restaurant fallen for a trendy hype instead of focusing on great food. This emperor has no clothes."

  • "Almost overly attentive staff are very eager to ensure your every need is taken care of at this sophisticated, and gastronomique temple. Table d'hôte menu choices make it difficult to test run the kitchen on a budget, so go hungry and willing to pay a full price. Delicious and detailed food awaits. And there's no doubt you'll see it - the lighting is the only real spoiler. It's so bright you feel like the show is over and they'll be putting up the chairs for the night at any moment. Subtle, more ambient lighting would make the experience feel more special and discreet - which is what it appears is the overall intention. Don't let that put you off though. It's a treat for fine dining and special occasions."

  • "Only in Los Angeles would this be one of the top restaurants. The food is solid, but very little of it is memorable other than the salt cooked Santa Barbara Spot prawns. Service excellent. Bathroom cleanliness on this particular night was passable --- not what I expect when paying a few hundred bucks a person for dinner. While this is one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles, don't get your hopes up if you come from NY, CHI or SF. This is not Le Bernardin or Alinea standards. It is, however, one of the few sophisticated dining experiences in LA."

  • "Expensive restaurant which would be ok if the food was great. Unfortunately, the food here was not. Had the market tasting menu. Started off well with delightful amuse-bouches. Meal went downhill with the first course. Rubbery, tasteless sashimi. Followed by a too salty umi egg. Courses were uninspired and poor tasting until we got the halibut which was delicious. That turned out to be the exception to the rule as everything else disappointed. Not worth the price."

  • "Overall - my experience at Providence was good. The service was impeccable throughout dinner. Ambience was very good and the space was beautiful. The food was mostly excellent with beautifully crafted plates. There were two noticeable items I didn't like. I think their regular bread and focaccia had a very soft texture throughout - with a soft crust. I like my breads with a little more body and my crusts crunchy. The bacon brioche was very good. The risotto was very salty for which the staff apologized and discounted the meal by 30 dollars. Bottom line - impeccable service with very good food which could be better considering their price range."

Eventually turned out they had two reservations for us. 2: Not seat us at a table with a wet tablecloth. ( I would imagine that a Michelin evaluation would have cost it a star that night). The food, however, is a very special treat."

  • "Inside joke for the night; title of review. The definition of fortified was given to us by the Som.; basically liquor added to the wine at a certain point of fermentation. This was basically how potent our enjoyment was of the dinner. Each dish outdid the last. I love how they don't compromise quality ingredients for molecular flare. Other places are so esoteric and intellectual about the foam and technique that you don't even know what you're eating anymore. I also love how visually pretty the dishes are. I took some pictures of the food just for the color combinations. The desert for example had lavender macaroons with beige basil thyme Madelines and a pear colored jelly on acacia wood, gave me ideas for decorating spare room."

  • "I suppose that to earn two Michelin Guide stars, a restaurant must charge absurd prices and serve ridiculously scant portions of largely unrecognizable food -- but served is a dizzying array of different "dishes", over many courses. By those metrics, Providence is hitting on all eight cylinders. The scallop taco, perhaps 2 inches wide and one inch tall, but presented in a block of stone a foot long and half a foot wide, with a narrow groove cut in the top to nestle the morsel, is a perfect case in point. Everything was tasty, but nothing was memorable or life altering, except the price."

  • "This resturant offers several options to sample their fare. A four course selection, 9 course selection, and crazy as it seems even a 17 course marathon! You can also supplement course to add to the 4 and the 9 courses. Wine pairings are available as well. When we were seated, the options should have been outlined. This is my only suggestion. This because if you dont know and have not been before you would not know that wine pairings are an option on the menu. A wine list and coctail list was given first. The food is GREAT! The price is what would be expected for places of this quality: Mastro's, Belvedre, etc..."

  • "The entire dining experience was amazing! It began with the Classy cocktails and amuse bouche of ginger jello shots, and a couple more delicious starters. The first course was sashimi of fluke, then the seared scallops in tapioca and mint sauce, the main was perfectly prepared duck breast, and ended with tasty chocolate mouse dessert. There were also little surprises in between courses. Everything was exquisitely prepared, presented, and served. It's an experience to be remembered for a long time!"
