Diner Reviews
  • "This is the place in California for an amazing dinner."

  • "I brought my husband here for his 60th birthday. We both got the 9 course tasting meal with wine pairings. It was beyound great! Super expensive so be ready to dish out at least $700 for two ppl."
    Dined on 8/27/2014
  • "It is not inexpensive but it is wonderful. The 9 course tasting menu is a little too much, but every dish that came out was better than the last"

  • "This restaraunt lives up to the hype. You should know that they only are doing tasting menus these days, so be prepared to spend some money, and spend some time here, but it is so worth it. The food was amazing, the presentation of the dishes was great, and the service was attentive, but not pushy. Was very impressed with the server's knowledge of the ingredients, the wines, the cheeses, etc. Not pretentious at all. We ordered the Chef's menu, which was 10 courses, with probably 4 amuse bouche starters. The meal lasted for well over 3 hours which was really nice. Not rushed at all. Just a beautiful evening filled with great food and great company."

  • "Definitely a new favorite for special occasions. I hate the new wallpaper, but otherwise the ambience was great. The food was one of the best meals (and the service was superb)."
    Dined on 8/23/2014
  • "We did the four course menu, which ends up being about seven or eight courses if you include the delectable bread service and the amouse bouches that they serve, and was more than satisfied. Each course was great -- complex flavors, beautiful plating, and original dishes, as far as my palate is concerned anyway. The wine list is expensive, but good. They have some interesting German wines that I highly recommend. The only thing that turned me off a little bit was the atmosphere. This is more of a personal preference than anything, but I thought that the atmosphere was overly high strung, which in large part is due to the demographic being served. We definitely saw some characters there. Great service, great food - highly recommend."

  • "I have been to plenty of top notch restaurants in the world, but this one was in its own category. Utterly perfect. I was happy to pay the very expensive bill :-) worth every penny"
    Dined on 8/22/2014
  • "Posh dining room. Seasoned servers. Extensive wine menu. Perfect cocktails. Calculated and delicious coursed plates. A perfect setting for an important dinner."
    Dined on 8/20/2014
  • "Providence has become one of our favorite places for special occasions. The ambiance is relatively quiet, and the service is very friendly without being obtrusive. Since the menu is different throughout the seasons, we've experienced a lot of variety just by ordering the market menu which has either a 5 course or 9 course option. The full bar has interesting specialty cocktails which further adds to the variety. The cheese plate is outstanding. Don't skip it."

  • "One of, if not, THE best restaurants in LA. Hands down. Do the 9-course meal with the wine pairings."
    Dined on 8/17/2014
  • "Brilliant food and service. Much better than any of overrated restaurants in NY and Chicago. Strongly recommended to go!"
    Dined on 8/15/2014
  • "To say the food and wine pairing at Providence was amazing, is actually an understatement. Although our 9 course tasting, plus we added 2 additional dishes, were expensive, it was worth every penny. The service was impeccable and second to none. The dishes that we had were beautifully crafted like art masterpieces, but more importantly, their taste was amazing because it went well with every single ingredient that was used. The four free amuse-bouche and the two additional free desserts(one of which was to-go) were worth every bite. I couldn't even finish some of my dishes such as the yummy artisan cheese platter, or even my chocolate cake. Providence, thank you so much for making my one year anniversary so special. Can't wait to come back."

  • "Overall, it was an excellent visit. Our first time. A few minor things, that weren't expected for a place that seems to pride itself on perfection. One, when we were seated I couldn't help but notice a spot on the white tablecloth right in front of me. Not sure how they missed that. Then we sat there for at least 5 minutes watching everyone before someone acknowledged us. It is not that large of a place so again, I am not sure how they missed us. And, third, we had to call the bread server over to our table to get some. We had watched him serve all of the tables around us more than once, but he missed us."

  • "Providence was simply marvelous. The food was exquisite and the service spot on. Each course was wonderfully presented, and perfectly cooked. Really outstanding place, and made for a memorable last night in LA."
    Dined on 8/7/2014
  • "Excellent on all fronts. The food is so delicious and special that one always wants more of each course. Staff is perfect; attentive but not overbearing."

  • "this restaurant is beautiful and the waiters are dutiful to a fault. The ambience is formal and the tones are hushed.... church-like almost in this rare atmosphere. If this is your idea of a great dining experience, and you are happy to spend about $600 for three people, then you will appreciate this first rate example of haute cuisine.... But if this is not your idea of a good time out... then beware"

  • "Sure there are places that boast perhaps comparable food, and there are certainly places that are hipper or even more elegant. But if you want the old-school, over-the-top ingredient sourcing, layers of highly trained servers, extraordinary presentation and preparation, and are willing to pay for it, this is your place. Providence is far superior to some of the Michelin starred places in Europe, sharing the creativity and imaginative juxtaposition of flavors, textures, and appearances and creativity of the best. Wine list is dumbfounding, ranging from about $40 to over $9,000 with some unusual whites, in particular hard-to-find Rieslings from Germany and Austria. A must visit for any foodie."

  • "The attention to detail is amazing. You feel like you are taking in a culinary museum experience. World class gastronomy! We had the nine course option with pairings. All pairings made sense and enhanced the choices. Many extras were brought out in addition to the nine courses. Every single thing was tasty and beautifully presented. Timing was impeccable!! A must-do experience for any "foodie". Staff was knowledgeable and friendly and had a sense of humor as well. Warm and welcoming."

  • "Thus was our first time there and it came highly recommended by a chef friend. Definitely get the either 4 course or nine course with the wine pairing and you will not be disappointed. Every dish was prepared beautifully and tasted exquisite. Like I said, the best meal ever!!"

  • "Courteous staff, nice ambience. A big minus was that the place is very loud. Also, we must have had 6 or 7 people waiting on our table, which I find a bit confusing and restless. The menu has no a la carte choices, only fixed menus. However, they are very flexible and allow mixing and matching. They had a few amuses that were brilliant, followed by beautifully served dishes in human sized portions. They do have a fierce tempo: we wanted to slow down a bit and asked if the next course could be delayed a bit, but it was "already on the grill", so it kept coming. Quality did go down from excellent to boring: the chocolate dessert was very disappointing with what seemed to be a stale brownie. Pity! Wine pairing is excellent."
    Dined on 7/24/2014
  • "The food was very good. The reason for the rating: I chose the tasting menu based on the inclusion of truffles. However, the truffles were tasteless; very disappointing. I've had truffles many times so was surprised at the lack of flavor."
    Dined on 7/24/2014
  • "The great part about the dining experience at Providence is that this place truly is the total package. The food it top notch, well thought of creative and high quality. We had the chefs tasting menu and every course was notable. On top of the quality of the food what really was wonderful was the quality of service. They did not miss one beat! Every person who came to our table from the maitre d to the food servers all the way down to the bus staff were experts at what they do. This is a true dining experience and totally worth the price."

  • "Each course a delightful explosion of favors. Fresh delicious fish beautifully presented."
    Dined on 7/21/2014
  • "The display of the food was nice, although the food was not as good as I expected. I had the price market 9 courses, my favorite was the uni steam egg, all because I'm a fan of uni. The Wagyu beef was the highlight of the night, everything else is just ordinary. Heard it was better before, guess the quality dropped since the hype is over. If it ever improves I would probably try again."

  • "My wife and I wanted to celebrate our first 3 months of marriage and having been before, I chose Providence knowing that it would be great. We had an amazing meal (Signature Tasting menu with Wine Pairings) and the service was spot on. Just a great night. We would not hesitate to return."

  • "One could not ask for a better dinner evening...great: service, atmosphere, food, wine. A performance not simply dining out! Each dish was presented & described in its own unique way and coupled with excellent wine choice. There were 4 of us and each of us did not want the evening to end! Thanks for a great experience..."

  • "Food Amazing / but you can't get out of there for less than $700 with Tip for 2 people. Special Ocassion for sure. Each course is an art piece for the taste buds. 45? For an 18 year old macallan whiskey. Is a little crazy over priced. In the end yes it's yummy. I would go once every 5 years there are so many places to eat in LA, that are just as good if not better."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "In the past year, this restaurant -- which was already wonderful -- has gotten even better. The food is imaginative, beautiful to look at, playful at times...and delicious."

  • "Went for my BD with my man. Had personal touches like menu card with my name on it. We had the 4 course tasting menu. Loved the scallop tacos! Very filling by the end of the meal. Great place to celebrate special occasions and add romance."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "Loved being treated to so many amuse bouches! Everything was creative and outstanding! Only disappointment was that we were not informed that the format had changed to tasting menus only (Open Table still shows the a la carte menu and the restaurant's web page is still under construction.) The doggy bag of a breakfast muffin for the next day's breakfast was also a nice touch."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "Quality of food is outstanding but choices are very limited with one dessert for the four course dinner"
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "We tried the seventeen-course Chef's menu. It was truly excellent... So much detail for every single course! And service was wonderful, more of a team effort that made our dinner a memorable occasion. Having been to other famous restaurants such as Daniel in NYC and The French Laundry in Yountville, we can confidently say Providence more than holds its own against other famous establishments."

  • "Providence is a beautiful restaurant and the food is creative, thoughtful, and delicious. It is generally considered the best restaurant in LA. Personally, although it is a wonderful restaurant, I felt it was great, but not LA's best, but that might just be personal taste. It's quite expensive (we spent 6 hundred for the chef's tasting menu and 2 drinks), and though it was a beautiful evening with exquisite food, we wouldn't go back for that value. All in all, it's a brilliant restaurant, but not worth the money in my opinion."

  • "I don't know how I missed experiencing this gem. I invited my friend and her husband to celebrate her birthday and it was such a special experience. Incredible food, great atmosphere and a staff that always goes the little bit extra to make the experience truly exceptional. Second time in the past month and will definitely be back."

  • "Lovely restaurant, warm yet professional service, and each course a visual, textural and taste delight. Extraordinary food--course after course. Extremely expensive and worth every penny. One of the best meals we've had anywhere."

  • "This used to be my favorite restaurant specializing in v fresh seafood. Now this restaurant only has tasting menu. Beautifully presented amouse bouche. Main course was duck, wagyu or salmon. Seriously? I could get these anywhere else. The dessert almond dessert is uninspiringly served in a corner of a long white plate said to reflect negative space. My friend and I were initialing waiting for the main dessert to arrive. My chocolate dessert is ok but not great. Sadly, another restaurant fallen for a trendy hype instead of focusing on great food. This emperor has no clothes."

  • "Almost overly attentive staff are very eager to ensure your every need is taken care of at this sophisticated, and gastronomique temple. Table d'hôte menu choices make it difficult to test run the kitchen on a budget, so go hungry and willing to pay a full price. Delicious and detailed food awaits. And there's no doubt you'll see it - the lighting is the only real spoiler. It's so bright you feel like the show is over and they'll be putting up the chairs for the night at any moment. Subtle, more ambient lighting would make the experience feel more special and discreet - which is what it appears is the overall intention. Don't let that put you off though. It's a treat for fine dining and special occasions."

  • "It is such a pleasure to have a seafood-centric menu that has an appropriately seafood friendly wine list. The Australian truffles were a nice treat and all the starter courses were delightful. Look forward to something new every visit and was not disappointed."

  • "Only in Los Angeles would this be one of the top restaurants. The food is solid, but very little of it is memorable other than the salt cooked Santa Barbara Spot prawns. Service excellent. Bathroom cleanliness on this particular night was passable --- not what I expect when paying a few hundred bucks a person for dinner. While this is one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles, don't get your hopes up if you come from NY, CHI or SF. This is not Le Bernardin or Alinea standards. It is, however, one of the few sophisticated dining experiences in LA."

  • "Expensive restaurant which would be ok if the food was great. Unfortunately, the food here was not. Had the market tasting menu. Started off well with delightful amuse-bouches. Meal went downhill with the first course. Rubbery, tasteless sashimi. Followed by a too salty umi egg. Courses were uninspired and poor tasting until we got the halibut which was delicious. That turned out to be the exception to the rule as everything else disappointed. Not worth the price."
