Ugly Bunch was amazing and NOT UglyThe ugly bunch which includes abalone, geoduck, and sea urchin was our favorite!! Great experience as always!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was really quiteThe food was really quite excellent. I had the Salmon and my dining partner had the Halibut. The fish was cooked to perfection and the veggies were sublime!!! I had the seafood chowder for an appetizer and it was about the best I have ever had -- rich, but not heavy. This is a great place for foodies. The only possible downside would be the desserts. Too contrived. All in all worth the expense. It is important to note that they offer only prix fixe, albeit at several levels.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWorthy of 3 Michelin StarsMy expectations of any Michelin rated restaurant are always high, but Providence hit the mark every time. The service was impeccable, the food was out of this world, and the wine pairings were spot on. It's earned a spot on my to 5 favorite restaurants of all time. Bravo!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMStuck in trafficI was stuck in traffic due to the Dodgers game, plus a accident on the 101 freeway which made me very late for our dinner reservation. The staff was extremely accommodating and seat us immediately, our waiter James was excellent! We did the 9 course menu, it was wonderful, beautifully presented and oh sooo good! I will be happy to dine there again.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousWe especially loved the pork belly,. The service was outstanding and very balanced between checking on our needs and not being intrusive on our night. Very expensive but worth it.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA wondeful mealEverything is first-rate: the food, the service, the attention, the presentation. I can't fault Providence at all. We had our anniversary dinner there and everything was perfect. The servers are very knowledgeable. The chef is brilliant. So just go there.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best restaurant in theThe best restaurant in the state, and I include all of the top-of-the-list places by any and all reviewers.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappointsMy husband and I went back to Providence for the second time, this time to celebrate our Anniversary. As with our fist visit the food, service and ambiance were perfect. The combination of flavors was amazing and the wine pairing was exceptional. I eat fish but not poultry or red meat. My husband is an omnivore. The menu was fish-centric but with meat options for my husband as well. It is well worthwhile to pay for the wine pairings because they do complement the dishes so well.
We recommend Providence to people who consider themselves "foodies". It rivals the best of what we have had in Napa and Sonoma and we both commented that we liked it much better than French Laundry. This is a great special occasion restaurant.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic experience! We finally made the time to check out Providence and we were not disappointed. All the superlatives people have used to describe the restaurant and experience are well deserved. The food is as darn near to perfect as possible. We had the 3 course meal which was extraordinary on its own - the Maine lobster and NY steak were highlights. And the restaurant adds two amazing amuse bouches, freshly baked bread to die for, and petit fours after dessert... I can only imagine going for the 16 course chef's menu! Service was very attentive and non-pretentious.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant exceeded myThis restaurant exceeded my expectations. Food is perfect, so are desserts and drinks!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AM19th wedding anniversaryI took my wife, Kelly, to providence, for our 19th wedding anniversary. We had never been here. Providence came highly recommended on several sites. Because the reviews were so high, I was a little worried that it was going to be like the so called " block buster summer movie". Too much hype! I can say that providence was our best dining experience hands down. The staff was excellent. Knowledgable and patient. The atmosphere was comfortable, not crowded or busy. The food was mouth watering good. They did all the small things nicely. From the menu with "happy 19th anniversary Simpsons" across the top, to the presentation of the food and wine. Couldn't of been happier. We will be back often.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMphenomenal dining experienceThere was nothing that was off the mark on the night we went but the salmon and the crab with roasted beets were nothing short of superb. I will state categorically that the salmon made the meal memorable; it was magical---smooth and silky. I didn't know you could make salmon taste that good. The soft shell crab, while excellent on its own, paled in comparison. Did I mention that the drinks are a quite generous pour?5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFish as it was born to beEverytime we go to Providence we congratulate ourselves for the choice. Fish was meant to taste like this. So often you see a really a bit ions menu but when the food comes it does not live up to the description. At Providence, the reality is even better that the prose.
The service is I,mediate but not obsequious. The wild sea bass was bright, moist and the sauce did not overwhelm the delicacy of the fish which I am pretty sure was swimming yesterday.
The restaurant is pricey but absolutely positively worth the investment.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the priceOur dinner was great. The wine pairings included a lot of interesting white wines (given the emphasis on seafood), which was a nice change compared to many other high end tasting menus. Even though we sat down at 9:30pm and ordered the full tasting menu, we never felt rushed. Providence delivers on all aspects of the fine dining experience and should definitely be on every Angelino's list of special occasion restaurants to try at least once.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExpectations were met and exceededThe providence market tasting courses definitely exceeded our expectations and the servers were extremely knowledgeable. The service was impeccable and one of the greatest dining experiences in a fine dining restaurant. Will definitely will be coming back for the chefs tasting or just the regular dishes even on a regular occasion.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing Gastronomical ExperienceWe went to Providence for a friend's birthday lunch and had, what we all believed (there were 4 of us), one of the most amazing gastronomical experiences possible. The flavors over everything we ate exploded in our mouths and we could not have been happier with the variety or uniqueness of the food. With that said, the service unfortunately, did not match the level of the food quality. The time between courses was a bit too long and there was a period where we did not see our waiter for over 30 minutes. With the price of the food that Providence charges, I was a bit surprised and would have expected a bit more attention by the wait staff.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMPlace to go for Quality of FoodThe food was exquisite. Service was good, but not up to Melisse/Rex. For example, I spent 5 minutes trying to find the Somilier. But once we did, his recommendation was spot on. (Next time, though, refill my glass.) Truffles were great--but the tablecloth got nearly as much as I did.
I won't go as often as I might because of the $100 per person cancellation penalty. We were a group of four, but one of us got very, very sick the day before. I would have loved to have moved the date so all four could go, but that would have cost me $400. I can't really take the chance of having to pay $100 per person not to eat. I realize why they do it, but it's an issue.
Neighbor is funky, at best. OK by me, but others may not be happy.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat birthday dateexcellent food, excellent service, overall a great experience. we did have a couple next to us who were speaking loudly enough for us to be part of their conversation, but that is not really something the restaurant can control.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect for Special OccassionsA friend reccommended Providence and we went on our annaversary. The staff warmly greeted us and immediately took us to our seats. The cocktails and wine options were great. We had a five course meal with a wine paring and loved every dish. The staff was very accomodating in allowing a substitution on one of the courses for my wife. The staff was engaged and friendly but not intrusive. All the people in the restaunt seemed to enjoy their food and beverages.
One of the standout items was the dessert. It was farirly simple as far as the ingredients went but the flavor and textures made this one of the standout dishes. Hats off to the pastry chef was David!
Cost-Expensive but worth it...5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a fabulous Mother's DayHad a fabulous Mother's Day dinner with my 3 boys. Staff was quite accommodating to my 11 year old. Just wished the boys were old enough to cover the bill!!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAaah - Finally some tasty food !It is so nice once in awhile to sit down and enjoy good food. Here in Los Angeles Area, people think, that a well cooked steak, eventually with a (frozen) Shrimp on the top, is the way to go. I am one of those people, who like to go out and eat something, I could not have prepared myself. Providence is one of those places, where I can do that. Very well prepared food. One Star of is because I've seen all the Dishes before. In this Caliber, I expect a Surprise or two. The Wine Pairing was very good. Coffee is a few bucks extra. Bill 1 Person 123+Tax&Tips. Will definitely be back.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved--Loved-LOVED it!We came here to celebrate our anniversary. The whole night was everything that I had expected and more!
Their service was excellent. Even the valets were attentive after we had parked on the street. We were welcomed and seated immediately. We were given adequate time to settle in and the wait staff and the bussing staff were all fantastic! Given the high prices you might expect a little snobbery, but there was absolutely none. Truly outstanding service!
Then there is the food. It was amazing! We chose the Chef's Menu, so we very luckily had come with big appetites! 15 courses of bliss! We were excited for and really liked the wagyu but come here if you love all seafood! And I recommend the wine pairing too!!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMProvidence deserves its fineProvidence deserves its fine reputation. Thankfully the tables are far enough apart to afford privacy that is so important to the enjoyment of food, wine and companionship.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMbest food in LAThis sophisticated restaurant specializes in sea food, but everything here us totally delicious. Everything here is extremely well-chosen, creatively prepared, profesionally served, and an extraordinary. Experience.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBrilliant FoodAs always, Providence delivers with great ingredients, magical combinations and exotic seafood selections. The decor is certainly simple but also elegant in a very modern, California style.
We went for the three-course menu and thoroughly enjoyed the starters and main course. However, when it came to the deserts, we found a definite departure from the more natural approach we tasted in the other courses. So, the finish was a bit artificial, with too much work being done with the ingredients which resulted in muted flavors that were over-powered by an overall sweetness.
So the deserts are an area that needs some attention to match the pureness of the other dishes.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best meals I've hadWhen you go to an expensive special occasion restaurant, your expectations run high. You want beautiful ingredients, expert, unique preparations and excellent service. You get all three at Providence in an upscale, yet relaxed setting. We selected the chef's menu and weren't disappointed. Each dish was well-conceived and meticulously assembled. My favorites were: spot prawns seared on hot soapstone and sea urchin with summer truffles topped with a thin slice of lardo. Service was attentive but not fawning. Wine pairings were spot on. Truly spectacular.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat FoodAlways great food; service disappointing this time, but we'll certainly return4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWas an amazing meal as always. Was an amazing meal as always. The one negative of the night is that the decor is in need of a freshening up, it feels old and tired.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMMany of the dishes were winners,Many of the dishes were winners, though in one case I encountered a collection of flavors rather than a dish. The service was terrific; there must be a server:customer ratio of 1:1, and they couldn't have been more accommodating to get me a taxi when the very pleasant evening was over.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely remarkable experience...Absolutely remarkable experience... it was worth every penny, and that is a lot of pennies.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic! I can't recallFantastic! I can't recall anything better than the other.... Wow is the best way to describe this. Thanks for such a great experience4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMI had not eaten at ProvidenceI had not eaten at Providence for many years and was thrilled to find it better then ever.
The meal was one of the best that I have eaten anywhere in the world.
The wait staff was a bit strange...but the food more than made up for them.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMI, sadly, expected moreThis was a wonderful experience that just didn't blow me away. The service/ theatre was perfect. The ambience sufficient. The food, at times, great... But not earth shattering as the price and the hype would lead you to believe. The wine pairings, to me, only adequate.
Overall... A good foodie experience. That being said, if I return, I will not go for a tasting menu for the regular offerings actually looked better than much of what I received in the "chefs tasting menu"4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMenu was definite bonus withMenu was definite bonus with new changes from the last visit! Great experience again but providence will be reserved for them special O's!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ExperienceDid 5 course tasting menu. Everything was great, but sea bass was spectacular. Sommelier helped pick a Rhone white that worked beautifully. Our server was passionate about the food and very knowledgeable about the preparation. I would probably order the 3 course menu from left side of menu next time, mainly because I have a big appetite. But I felt the whole experience lives up to the hype. A special place for a special occasion.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMHad their 9 course set menu.Had their 9 course set menu. it is something that everyone has to try before they die. please note it is not cheap but well worth it. The ingredients they use are expensive so the price we pay for eh course is a bargain.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent RestaurantThe food was very good. We did the 9 course tasting menu. The salmon cracker amuse bouche, the bacon brioche, the veal tenderloin and the shrimp were all stand outs.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding all around !!!Outstanding all around !!!
This is LA's best kept treasure & treat
Thank you for maintaining excellence & a great experiences !!!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was beautifully prepared,The food was beautifully prepared, delicious and worth the price. Service was excellent.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMProvidence has an exceptionallyProvidence has an exceptionally pleasant space and warm, informed, attentive service. The food is creative and perfectly prepared and presented. It is also very, very expensive. As one for whom that makes it quite a reach, I hope at that level for something transcendently great. I am not sure the food reached quite that level, at least not for me, though it was certainly excellent. But in the end I prefer food that's a bit less understated. For those who don't share that preference or don't blink at the prices, Providence may be hard to bat.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMEach course was a unique workEach course was a unique work of art. The service was excellent and professional yet friendly. The meal was very expensive, but worth it for a special occasion.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved every part of the serviceLoved every part of the service and food, especially presentation. There was dishes that the taste was a bit heavy torward sour and salty. The desert was great through.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect in every way. KnowingPerfect in every way. Knowing that we had a performance downtown 2 hours from our restaurant arrival time, a superb effort was made by the restaurant staff to present us with a splendid dinner and on-time departure. Providence is TOPS!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMTruly one of LA's finest restaurantTruly one of LA's finest restaurants. What a special treat.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMSpectacular! The service was outstanding. The wait staff was very attentive. I got the 5 course tasting with wine pairing. I would definitely suggest the wine pairing. It had some amazing wines! The food was also delicious. I left quite stuffed at the end of the meal. I don't know how people can eat the 15 courses! 5 was definitely adequate. I am not a big seafood person, but everything that I ate I very much enjoyed. If you can afford this pricey gem then I would definitely suggest it. One of the nicest restaurants in LA with the service and food to back up its reputation.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAs hard core foodies we tryAs hard core foodies we try to select restaurants where the food (and wine) are the most important, and where the noise level and inter-table spacing accommodate civilized, non-shouting conversation. Providence was worth a significant car ride and we can recommend it highly - sophisticated but not overly fussy food (we did the 5 course tasting menu with starred items), nice mixtures of tastes while still being able to taste the primary ingredients, all beautifully presented. Not cheap, but worth it, and great for a special occasion.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food here is great. ProbablyThe food here is great. Probably the best food in Los Angeles. You should be warned, though , that the cost of dinner here is stratospheric and shocking.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a nice time other thanHad a nice time other than the waiter having a bit of an snobby attitude (I think he was French )
