Diner Reviews
  • "Made a last minute reservation for 12 colleagues in town on business. Restaurant was vet accommodating and service was great! Food was good - octopus salad was great but seafood pesto pasta was overcooked (pasta and seafood). Others at table seemed to enjoy their food and cocktails. I would go back again."

  • "Good for office lunch for the ambience, but very loud. Food is fair and service is good."

  • "The food was inedible, cold and poorly presented. Five minutes after I sat down the manager came over and said " So what's happening with your other guest? Have you heard from him? Is he coming or not?" I was stunned into silence. The restaurant was NOT full and I had arrived five minutes before my reservation time. The wait staff kept trying to deliver 2 entrees that were not ours. They carried those entrees around the restaurant for over 15 minutes until they delivered them (cold by now) to the table next to ours. Prego used to be a top brand. I started going to your restaurant in San Francisco over 30 years ago. I will never go to this one again. Never."

  • "Prego jumped on the Travel Zoo bandwagon to drive Sunday brunch business. It was successful. That is the good news, the bad news is that they forgot to deliver on food quality and service. Especially service. We had reservations but when we arrived we were told there no tables that were not small and tucked in the bar area. We choose the bar area where essentially we were no man or woman's land. They simple forgot us. We had to get up and go get someone or stop someone passing by every time we needed service. Not good. A sous chef finally took pity on us and helped get the food to us. However except the first course the rest of the meal was a disappointment. Not at all what we have come to expect from Pregos."

  • "We enjoyed the food. I think the food has improved over the years it was excellent. The service was not what I would have expected. The bus boy was not trained he removed things to early with out asking. When he grated the parmesan it was all over my lap. The waiter was so so. The restaurant was not that busy and we felt rushed."

  • "Me and my girlfriend went here only on the reviews of other people and I can truly say this place was perfect good food good service and all around great place to go eat"

  • "Took clients here this week and we all loved it. Valet was a little slow but that was literally the only issue we had. Overall great experience!"

  • "I would recommend this restaurant to those who like a loud, ok, vibrant and energetic, place to drink and eat and who want to watch a lot of different channels at once on big TVs. I can only speak about the dishes I tried: pasta shells with peas and chicken was too heavy for my taste; the half moon pasta with lobster was tasty but did not taste of lobster. The problem our group of 5 had with the restaurant was the panorama of large screen tv's with different channels. This was not conducive to a pleasant dining experience. Also, the bar (it was TGIFriday night) was open to the restaurant and very noisy and distracting to those of us who wished to have a conversation. Not for intimate or conversational dining."

  • "Not enough options for brunch, though the food was good. The portions are smaller and I left feeling hungry still which never happens, especially after a three course meal. It's way too expensive for what it is. I'm glad I had a Travelzoo voucher or else I would have been extremely disappointed. Service was unattentive for the restaurant hardly being full. Had to ask each time for refills on mimosas, coffee and water. I'm not sure if it's because we are a young couple and often get less service than other parties, but that shouldn't be an excuse. We probably won't be returning, even if a deal for the place pops up."

  • "The good was very good, the ambiance very nice as well. The only issue i had was you either have to pay to have your car valet parked or park yourself and pay $1.25 per 15 minutes. We self parked, however it would have been cheaper to valet."

  • "Three girl friends met. We loved the food and the environment was perfect. The tables are close and we may have bothered our neighbors. The service was unobtrusive which was perfect for a chatty meetingm"

  • "I got the travelzoo voucher for this restaurant. it included bottomless mimosa, coffee, three course of brunch. the first and second course were pretty good. I had the smoked salmon as my first course, and the custom omelette as my second. the portions are generous. the waiter are very friendly and nice. I wouldn't recommend its dessert though. overall it was great dinning experience for brunch"

  • "I enjoy good food with my friends and families. I was really thrilled to bring my family to Prego with this sweet deal from Travel zoo. We actually paid more on top of the voucher cause there were 7 of us. The server only showed up 3 times( order, drink, check). I asked for some other extra things that he never came so I had to tell the bus boy. We waited for a long time to get our food and the coffee was horrible at the end. My mom commended that McDonald's coffee is better than that. I feel so embarrassed cause it was my treat. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN!!!!"

  • "I love the ambiance of the restaurant. Unlimited mimosas and food was a plus. However, service felt short. I would come back to give the restaurant another try"

  • "We came here for the OC restaurant week. The foods were delicious and we loved the ambience. One friend had the spaghetti with seafood and tomato sauce. Half way through the meal, this friend didn't seem to find any scallopp in this disk and mentioned it to our waiter. Our waiter investigated and confirmed that this disk should come with scallops as stated in the menu and offered additional pasta with scallops for my friend to take home. We would like to commend the waiter and the restaurant for knowing how to correct the problem and make it right with the customers. The service here was superb and we had a very pleasant experience of dinning here. We'll be back!!!"

  • "The restaurant only gets 3 stars because they, with the exception of only 2 highly rated restaurants, can't seem to get it right. I simply ask in my comments section to "Be attentive to my daughter." Everyone seems to have difficulty with this simple task except for two outstanding restaurants which get it right EVERY time I go. The food here is very good but, management needs to pass down messages to the servers to help them create a greater customer service experience for their guests."

  • "Food was good, as always. The service was very good from the time we wal;ked in, to when we left."

  • "Service at this restaurant was unimpressive and aggravating and the tables set close together. It was difficult to have a private conversation. The car valet was unable to force a smile or say thank you; the table attendant either did not speak English or was uninterested in being helpful. The waiter was young and inexperienced but friendly and responsive. The food, however, was excellent. For best value and memorable service, we would not recommend this restaurant."

  • "Was stuck in a cramped corner 2 seater table. Seemed the server was busy with other tables and the expo/runner helped more than the server. Overall bad experience, but the food was good."

  • "Food quality and taste was excellent! Wait staff forgot appetizer, and glasses of water. They made it up with free desert! The seating is cramped and not very private."

  • "Although we thought the food was excellent, my steak came out almost raw even though I ordered it to be medium. I sent it back after a bite and it still came back rare. Having worked in a steakhouse for a number of years I definitely know what rare is. After that I didn't touch it and took it home with me for another dinner. My wife's dinner, the halibut, was excellent. Service was great except everyone kept wanting to clear the table very fast even though we weren't done. The remainder of my wine vanished when I turned away, not to mention they kept trying to take the garlic bread and wine from my wife. That was a bit irritating."

  • "Attentive, not rushed service. Food well prepared and attractively plated. One of the better airport area restaurants, should be on everyone's permanent go-to list."

  • "During our valentines dinner, a chef served our 2nd course of meal and answered our question about the great tasting wine they just served. He was pleasant and and gave us very good info about the wine. He was all over the place, helping the crew serve food and trouble shooting. Little did we know that he is Ugo Allesina, Prego's co-owner and chef, which we googled while dining. He added a special hospitality to an already succulent dining experience. It's not just all about the food. Although immediately after tasting their "Romeo and Julieta" an Hawaiian ahi tuna with mango appetizer, Prego got me and my wife convinced that a repeat visit is inevitable. Got an "A" from the wifey for making the reservation. Highly recommend the place."

  • "This was our first experience and we would definitely come back to Prego's for lunch or dinner. There are a variety of choices for both appetizers, salads, and dinner entrees plus the special for this 'sweetheart' evening. My husband's seafood pasta dish was very tasty and my only gentle critique was for my chicken and pasta dinner. The chicken was without any seasoning and the pasta al dente was a bit inconsistent as some of the pasta shells were undercooked; however, the sun dried tomato w/ peas pasta sauce was very tasty! Oh, yes, and the breadsticks and table bread was a great treat!!"

  • "All was excellent except the service. The hostess was not really a hostess but an unfriendly and haughty young lady. Bad first impression. The waitress and other helpers were sloppy looking, and unattentive. I am sorry for that because they had the best eggplant of any Orange County restaurant."

  • "Haven't been to Prego in a while but enjoyed a Caesar salad with grilled salmon on top. The server was very friendly and attentive. Luckily the restaurant though packed with people, was not too noisy that I could still carry on a conversation with my guest. When selecting a restaurant for a business lunch I always consider the noise level and I would definitely return to Prego for that reason alone."

  • "Prego was a favorite restaurant when it opened in Irvine almost thirty years ago. After being away for a number of years, I returned to celebrate a friend's birthday. What wonderful memories came flooding in! I'm pleased to say that it was even better than I had remembered. The food was delicious, the portions generous, the service impeccable, and the attention to detail impressive. I'll be back soon!"

  • "This place is an absolute gem! From being greeted by the chef, to the kids making their own pizza........Prego is always on point."
    Dined on 1/31/2014
  • "The restaurant was great many years ago and now has lost its luster. Despite the good intentions of the owner and the great service, it just wasn't the Prego of days gone by."

  • "I had grilled Salmon with Spinach and it was amazing, I look forward to going back again just for that! Great atmospher for all occasions"

  • "I am sorry to say that our appetizer did not get put in until after the second time I asked, the food order was taken and delivered wrong, the food was bland and it was extremely pricey for the quality of the food. I was very upset because we had several things we were celebrating that evening! :("

  • "Our waiter did not stop by our table once after our meals were served to check on us--he was too involved in a conversation with other restaurant employees. Once we finished our meal, he came by to ask us if our dinners were good and if we wanted another drink. Very poor service for a supposed upscale Italian restaurant. Canneletto and I'll Fornaio, here we come!"

  • "Few restaurants in OC can cover the dining spectrum as well as Prego. It consistently is one of the best business lunch spots in the area, and it serves equally well as a quiet, escape for dinner. The food and service are always exemplary."
