  • "Wonderful spot for a late lunch. Patio is shaded from 12 noon on. Food is invective and well prepared. We had salads and split a ban mhi sandwich which left room to share a sticky toffee cake which was light as air and the perfect mid day sweet bite. Will definitely return."

  • "Our first visit was with friends who had dined there before. We liked it so much we made reservations a few nights later with family. The casual, fun and funky decor brings to mind a cozy European cafe, you feel comfortable right away. Menu is moderate in size but everything was expertly prepared and first rate. Special favorites-- ceviche appetizer, roasted cobia with edamame, and milk stout brownie. Wonderful variety of good wines at very reasonable prices. Staff was friendly and service was perfectly timed and attentive without being annoying. And we could actually talk with our dining mates without yelling and straining to hear. Plates will be our new go-to restaurant in the downtown Raleigh area. Try it you won't be disappointed!"

  • "Plates has an great atmosphere...we wanted to stay all day and try everything on the menu! The fish cakes benedict was very flavorful and the eggs were soft, just how I like them. The Carolina Benedict was so delicious that we had to have a side order of the in house cured bacon and andouille sausage! The tables next to us were raving about how tender the hanger steak was! Service was great but not smothering. The coffee was very good too and we liked the bottles of water on the table. We will be back as soon as we can to try more dishes."

  • "We arrived at Plates and were excited for our meal as we had heard and read great things. We placed our orders and about an hour later were informed that they ran out of 3 main dishes (out of 5 total) that everyone at my table orderd. We switched our orders to the 2 items they did have left and after another hour we finally received our food. The food tasted good, but by that amount of time we could have tasted anything and thought I was good. With a heafty bill, along with our poor service and a disappointing meal switch, it is safe to say we won't be returning."

  • "We had picked Plates as a special occasion dinner, overall we were extremely pleased. I was more interested in the appetizers than the main courses. We shared 3 of the appetizers and then chose the Pork Chops as our main dish, they were good, a bit generic though, I was expecting more out of the main dishes with the variety and quality of the appetizers."

  • "We really want to love this restaurant but the food is just not up to par. We liked the idea of a rotating menu every day but the food just misses the mark. Their four top tables are more like a bistro app table definitely not large enough to enjoy dinner. Patio is great but we were near the server station so really hard to have a conversation. The fish with chorizo was served in a bowl with liquid more like a one dish stew certainly not what we expected. We will not be going back."

  • "Each diner in our party felt the sides of their entrees were good, but the protein bad. I had the pork chop. I recognize that pork chops are difficult to prepare, but this was charred and so well-done it was practically inedible. Wine was decent, but won't be going back when there are other amazing restaurants in the same price point in Raleigh."

  • "I ordered the mahi, and it was cooked to perfection: nice & moist and flaky. I would order it again. It was served over smoky, roasted vegetables, which were also delicious. The chocolate brownie topped with homemade ice cream was terrific. The menu was limited to few offerings, which I consider a plus. This normally means they do well what they do. The only suggestion I would offer is that the menu include one vegetarian entree. Fish is the only "meat" I eat, so I was happy, but pure vegetarians might be challenged. Music was just a bit loud, but we didn't complain. Perhaps if we had, they would have turned it down for us."

The menu, though small, had great options and we loved everything we ordered- truffle infused hummus, roasted beet salad, and salmon over truffled risotto. We ordered four different entrees, all of which were tasty, and finished with a berry crumble dessert (yum!). Plates has become our go-to restaurant for special occasions as well as mid-week treats, as we can depend on the consistentency of great food at reasonable prices delivered by pleasant staff."

  • "After hearing wonderful reviews of Plates from friends, I couldn't wait to try it out. I actually tried to dine at Plates a month ago but they were having an event and I was unable to snag a table. I was a little turned off (how was I supposed to know they were having an event/the staff wasn't very polite on that day) but after our experience this past Saturday I would totally go back. The menu is small but changes regularly (weekly). Unfortunately they were out of a few items (I blame the snow) but we shared the meat plate (amazing). My husband ordered the panini which was panini-perfection. I ordered the beet salad that was so fresh and vibrant. I've heard great things about their dessert menu...so that's what I'm going back for."

  • "Valentines Day. Not a good choice. Arrived on time. Most tables still empty but we were seated at the worst table. By the restrooms. Concrete(?) floor. This End Up furniture. Very inexpensive flowers on the table. The crab appetizer was ok but the pork shank was basically pot roast with broccoli that had a foul metallic taste. The chicken schnitzel was dry and resembled flattened chicken fingers. The brownie dessert was undercooked but flavorful. Won't be back."

  • "My recent business lunch was such a hit! The food was awesome - our oyster po boys were so juicy and flavorful - the sauce was the best I'd ever had! Service was great - our server really knew the ingredients in certain dishes and was very knowledgeable. My client can't wait to return for business and personal dining experiences. I would highly recommend Plates!!!!! What a wonderful new addition to the Glenwood South scene! I love that the prices are so reasonable and I don't have to wait for a special occasion to dine!"

  • "The service was excellent. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. The food portions were reasonable and not over the top. The prices were great. I found the food combinations unique and interesting... I had the pork belly sandwich with a side salad. The vegetables and bread were quite tasty - and dominated the sandwich. I do not think there was ample meat on the sandwich since I really could not taste it at all and can not rate it one way or the other. I would go back and try it again... they had many other interesting choices."

  • "My wife and I first visited Plates on New Year's Eve. What a pleasant revelation! Seating fewer than 40 patrons, it is an intimate, warm, and comfortable space. But stuffy it is not. The wait staff is smart and personable; the bartender knows how to mix a drink (try the Longstocking); the owner wanders the floor with no pretense, genuinely interested in each diner's experience. The food seals the experience: creative but not crazy, everything inspired and delicious. Don't everybody go at once, though; we'd like to go back."

  • "Really great place for dinner date. Food is fresh and local. The beet salad is a home run. I recommend the short rib or flounder (of course I've only been twice and had both). Squash soup was delish. Plates has the feel of a restaurant that's been around for years, it's only been open a couple of months. It is going to be a hot spot on Glenwood South without question. Its exciting. Owner Steve and his wife are very personable and love sharing their story and love seeing folks enjoy a delicious new taste in Raleigh dining. I look forward to warmer days when we can eat outside."
