A word from Picca
Picca is a Peruvian cantina. We encourage you to eat your beef heart out.

At Picca, Chef Ricardo Zarate serves modern Peruvian cuisine with a Japanese flair. You'll discover over 50 refined Peruvian dishes designed to be passed around the table.

From our ceviche and tiradito fare to more traditional Peruvian meals like carapulcra, roasted black cod over sun-dried potato stew, or seco de pato, duck leg confit in black beer sauce over cilantro rice, we hope you'll stop by and try Chef Zarate's cooking. We encourage you to sit at the chef's counter, and watch his entire team cook all night long.

In 2011, Chef Zarate was awarded the title of Best New Chef in America by Food & Wine Magazine. He has also been nominated twice for a James Beard Award and last year Picca was named one of the 10 best restaurants in the America by GQ magazine.

  • "Food and drinks are unique and delicious. The service is (almost) great. You won't be disappointed! "

  • "The drinks, although I am not a drinker are unique and quite good from friends comments. the food is unique and tangy. The menu needs guidance from the waitstaff, but that being said I am adventurous."

  • "I have been wanting to go to Picca for some time. Love Peruvian food having visited Lima 8 times in the recent past. I was not disappointed from the Pisco Sour to the Tacu Tacu and Saltado, everything was as close to Peruvian taste that you are likely to get outside of the country (With it's local specific ingredients that simply cannot be truly duplicated elsewhere). Also yummy was the Avocado Project cocktail. And the staff were great, especially given that my date on this night was a bit deep into her cups and not at her best. My next visit will be with a foodie friend where we can try a wider range of drinks and plates. Anticipation!"

  • "Great food but poor service by the waiters and bartenders. By waiter I am not referring to the people helping with water but the actual person taking the order. Ours ended up flirting with two women for close to half an hour while the other patrons were waiting for him. Was funny but not probably not very respectful of them. Maybe excessive arrogance in general due to the popularity of the spot? "

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner here. Food was good, drinks were awesome and service was exceptional. Will go back for sure!"

  • "This is by far the most innovative menu in Los Angeles. We have dined here several times, each time better than the previous. The Asian interpretation of Peruvian food is unique and outstanding. The Servers do an excellent job of guiding you through the menu. And a seat at the Chef's Counter provides an experience that cannot be beat! I highly recommend Picca!"

  • "For what you pay, Picca does not deliver. Granted, there were a couple of really good tasty bits like the Albacore Ceviche, however, not all of the offering were memorable. I've been to several locations all around Los Angeles, so Picca was sorely disappointing. It was a Sunday evening when our party of 4 dined at Picca; we order about 10 items from the menu. In the group, there was a vegetarian and although the server promised good eats, they didn't arrive. After spending over $140, I left feeling underwhelmed and craving more food. We ended up at DTLA's The Pie Hole for more dessert."

  • "The food was just perfect, while the service was not. The waitress was great, but the bus boys bordered on incompetence. The food made us forgive everything else, though!"

  • "Staff were not courteous to guests. Talking near tables about their social lives and being loud. Staff need to tone it down a bit; they were overbearing. Staff were not professional and walked in front of patrons while talking to other staff. That is inconsiderate."

  • "Very very slow service. Also quite poor. A number of times we even had to beg for cocktails and water and still ask a second or third time before they'd arrive. getting water was impossible. The food was ok. Some very salty, some too heavy. Fish was good. We were told to order around 4 plates per person. There were 5 of us. With cocktails at $15 and having taken the advice and clearly ordered way too much food, and the overpricing of the food itself, the bill was insane. Had the service itself been better, maybe apologies for the bad/slow service. excuse as to why its so slow or bad, reasons as to why plates were piling up on the end of our table and no one was taking them away, we might have understood. Overall a very mediocre experience."

  • "We visited Picca for what is now our...5th? time I think. Each time we have thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. This time we tried a few dishes we had not tried, which were only okay. That was about 1-2 our of the 9 we ordered. All others were unreal. We made a reservation for 6pm, right when the open since we had a toddler with us. The service could not have been more friendly to us and to him, making him feel like he was in the mix, which is no surprise as each time the service has been amazing. This is just a great restaurant."

  • "Everything was delicious, especially the Ceviche Criollo and the Anticucho Diver Scallops. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "The food here was good, especially the ceviche but the service was a bit lackluster and the chocolate cake dessert wasnt as good as what I get at Trader Joe's for $2-3."

  • "a very metro atmosphere. the waiter was very helpful with suggestions. we had several excellent dishes. the halibut tiradito and anticucho diver scallops were especially delicious. the ceviche paiche was too sour, made us sweat. drinks were good, but overpriced for the small serving."

  • "Lots of places say they serve tapas but the slim menu leaves you thinking it's just some appetizers. Picca has an enormous menu of fantastic little plates that span Asia to Europe."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "Found Picca on a larger list of can't-miss Los Angeles restaurants and decided to give it a shot on a double date. We are very thankful we did, as this Peruvian-fusion style food was absolutely delicious. While it was just a tiny bit on the pricey side, the quality and heartiness of the food went a long way towards erasing any memory of the check from my mind. There is something for everyone on the extensive menu and my only regret is that we didn't have enough people to warrant ordering more dishes. The cocktails were tasty, as were the Peruvian beers. Overall, definitely planning a return visit."

  • "The service is impeccable. It's a fun place with a unique menu; something for everyone."

  • "A completely great experience. The food was fantastic and so unusual and new so that was exciting. The presentation was gorgeous, which I always love. All the service was great. I love that all the liquor is South American in keeping with the food origin. In particular, I had requested a side table because I have a hearing problem and was completely accommodated for that. I love the look of the restaurant starting with the great exterior; I immediately felt I was going somewhere "else", perhaps in another country, not just another trendy, soulless, westside LA restaurant. The inside is really nice too - spacious but not drafty; cozy but not too crowded."

  • "The food here is terrifically interesting, tasty and consistent. Because it is a tapas restaurant the inviting menu with many, many offerings is daunting and the very pleasant and efficient waiters must deliver a long spiel to explain it. On our two visits they performed the long menu monologue well, but way too fast for a first timer to understand. I imagine they do it so often that it's hard to be enthusiastic and slow, especially during busy periods. During those busy times, when the restaurant is packed, food and drink usually appear, but sometimes not on time, which is annoying. Also the place is very, very noisy. Reserve for an early seating. You will not be sorry."

  • "Came here for the DineLA menu. The ceviche was great, very fresh, although toward the end the citrus flavor was quite strong. We tried the crab causa, which tasted like a really fancy seafood potato salad once you eat it. Interesting concept and I'm glad we tried it, but I don't know if I would try another one. The ice cream sandwich was good, once we figured out that you can't really eat it like a regular ice cream sandwich. You have to eat it like a chocolate chip cookie with ice cream - that is, separately. I liked the chocolate sauce to dip the cookie in."

  • "The culinary variety pushes everyone outside their comfort zone and introduces new favorites to even the most cautious of palates. There is a dish for everyone at Picca."

  • "Get the restaurant and only 50% full, they put us in a corner, we ask to be moved and they say we are full, those tables were empty all night!! The waiter comes and gives us menus and asks if we have been here before, and I say maybe 5-6 times, HE SAYS, I DON"T need to now how many times!! Most of the food over cooked, over caused and very expensive for the portions!!! Things have changed here from last time, and the manager when we made a comment, said, well thats our policy!! Stay away!!!! Take your money, where people care!!!!"

  • "Came here for a surprise dinner with my boyfriend - tried 7 dishes and 2 desserts. Lamb, skirt steak and octopus were standouts. Beef heart stole the show. Ox tongue was delicious, as was the beef tartare. The scallops and sea urchin was good - I'm not a big urchin fan, but it was prepared beautifully. The flan is unbelievable. As someone who doesn't even like flan I couldn't stop stealing my date's. I got the chute is and they were PERFECT. So sugary, so delicious. Overall the meal was perfect. Our waiter had recommended dishes at the beginning that we loved - we will definitely return!"

  • "My first impression was I'm going to be left hungry... But was able to savior the food and enjoy every bite. The place is trendy great customer service, good menu. I highly recommend Picca and also recommend making a reservation, the place gets busy. I did that and didn't wait more than 2-3 minutes til my friend and I were seated. We had a great time!"

  • "Food was outstanding, Pisco Sour was perfect! tables are very close together so you have no privacy and it can get loud which it makes having a conversation difficult. This my third time there I loved the peruvian food."

  • "Picca is my favorite restaurant. The first week it opened, a group of girlfriends and I thought we'd try it, and we have not stopped going back since! Gilberto is an amazing, very helpful server!"

  • "Our table at 9p.m. was not ready. We were at the bar, ordered drinks and then was asked to bring our drinks over to our party. Drinks spilled in traveling over to our table...on another patron's jacket."

  • "Poor service - with reservation, it took more than 20 minutes to give us a table. Hostess was frantic trying to coordinate, she stated that they were understaffed. Once seated, food came all at once, instead of paced. But overall, experience was great."

  • "Make sure you make a reservation before going coz the place is always packed! We went there for the first time over the weekend and we were not disappointed by the experience! The food was really tasty, although some dishes were a bit on the salty side. The service was great. More importantly, I had one of the best cocktails ever. Make sure you try the Avocado Project. It's simply divine. Given the quality of the food and drinks, the prices were reasonable. I'd totally go back."

  • "This place is great for those who enjoy a tapas-style experience. Their food was delicious. We were big fans of the seco pato (duck), the chorito (octopus), and their salmon. I despise octopus but not only was their interpretation edible, it was delicious. Their causas ("sashimi" that is on yellow mashed potato squares) are good and come in two-bite portions per order. Their halibut tiradito (thinly sliced fish) was good. Their tres leches was also good but you have to try their churros... by far the best churros I've had."

  • "Everything we ordered from the menu was deliciously and beautifully prepared. Our server was very thorough about explaining the menu---she was very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. She was also very on point service-wise, considering it was a busy Saturday night. The manager, Kimberly was very hospitable and friendly. Even the owner and head chef made an appearance. We dined at Picca to celebrate a birthday, and everything was great: service, food, and ambiance. My guests and I had a wonderful experience, and we'll definitely be dining here again."

  • "While the front desk staff was a bit standoffish and not very welcoming (that is so 1990's), the food carried the evening. The fried quinoa salad was magical....full of flavor and texturally spirited. The skewers of diver scallops and black cod were beautifully prepared and very tasty. I wish we had bigger appetites to try 10 more dishes."

  • "Not an ordinary Peruvian restaurant, here the cuisine reach an another level . The Japanese influence is omni present. The small portion and presentation of the dishes are innovative for a Peruvian restaurant . The cocktails with only South American spirits are excellent, and the server was very professional ."

  • "Between the unique drinks and food flavors...this is a great place for foodies to sample and share food. We would all go back just for the Crispy Ceviche Causa and Pedro Serrano cocktail."
