At Picca, Chef Ricardo Zarate serves modern Peruvian cuisine with a Japanese flair. You'll discover over 50 refined Peruvian dishes designed to be passed around the table.

From our ceviche and tiradito fare to more traditional Peruvian meals like carapulcra, roasted black cod over sun-dried potato stew, or seco de pato, duck leg confit in black beer sauce over cilantro rice, we hope you'll stop by and try Chef Zarate's cooking. We encourage you to sit at the chef's counter, and watch his entire team cook all night long.

In 2011, Chef Zarate was awarded the title of Best New Chef in America by Food & Wine Magazine. He has also been nominated twice for a James Beard Award and last year Picca was named one of the 10 best restaurants in the America by GQ magazine.

  • "With several styles of fascinating small plates, the menu features something for everyone - some of the best bites you will ever put in your mouth. The fish and chips and braised duck were stand outs! Pricing is fair - when I received the bill, I was expecting a higher tab. Our waiter was knowledgable, friendly and had a great sense of timing. His recommendations on the number of dishes to order hit the bullseye. When the restaurant ran out of the wine we ordered, our waiter recommended a different wine (with a small taste) that was equally polished but not an up-sell to our original choice. It was difficult to hear our dinner guests but we managed to have great conversation without screaming across a small table. A definite winner!"

  • "The food explodes in your mouth; each taste is different, building to a sensory overload. The quinoa, chicken, cod, lamb are exceptional. The Causas were not our favorite but the Ceviche was outstanding. The ambiance is festive and loud-ask for upstairs if you want the decibels lower. This restaurant and it's downtown sister Mochica are LA treasures!!!"

  • "My girlfriends and I had a great dinner at Picca. The server was knowledgable, nice and very accommodating. Most of the food was stellar and my drink was out of bounds delicious. My only gripe was the cost of everything for the serving sizes. The portions of food and the size of the drinks were so small, it was actually surprising - and disappointing. It was really, really expensive. But, overall, the dinner was a great experience and I'll go back. I just need to save up in order to pay for it."

  • "The concept is quite original and the restaurant has a nice open kitchen and good atmosphere. Unfortunaltely we had a table all the way in the back on the 2nd floor where there was less animation and we could not see the rest of the restaurant. The waiter seemed to be quite lost and forgot a couple of dishes we had ordered so the service was quite slow. Some dishes were really nice but overall the food was ok, nothing extraordinary. Quite expensive."

Many medium sized dishes satisfy with rich deep flavors. Our waiter was beyond friendly and funny, very helpful with food and drink recommendations, as well as vegetarian accommodation, he even got us out and paid quickly so we could catch a last second movie. Because of the noise, although I think due to our seat upstairs on balcony, it would be a tough place for those hard of hearing. But you won't want to do much conversing when you're savouring these exquisite dishes at Picca."

  • "Great experience for DineLA. There was 3 in our group so we were able to try out everything on their DineLA Menu. The ceviche and Paiche Tradito were the best out of all the appetizer selections. The Branzino was the best amongst the main entree selection. The sea bass was not that great; the texture and taste of the fish didn't stand out and the potatoes was overpowering the fish as well. The clam risoto may be spicy for some. The dessert was both good. However, I preferred the meringue b/c of the unique taste of the delectable passion fruit mousse and jelly; the chocolate napoleon was too typical of a chocolate dessert. Nice ambiance. Service was good. Noise level was really high."

The food was superb as well...the Risotto was by far my favorite, but the short rib and ceviche were amazing as well. So glad they offer DineLA here. I'll definitely be coming back!"

  • "Was hoping for so much more. We did the Dine LA pre-fixe menu so got to try 10 dishes total. A few were strong and full of flavor like the charred fish with crispy quinoa and the clam risotto (although only 2 clams per serving was a little chinzy.) We were still hungry and ordered a couple of the meat skewers - beef heart (tough as nails) and beef with sea urchin butter (flavorful). Most of the dishes were just without a lot of flavor and obviously small serving size. We much prefer the dishes at the other place, Mo-Chica downtown. Service was quite good considering how busy it was."

  • "2 of us shared the DineLA Menu on our first visit to Picca. Other than the sea bass being far too salty, everything else was absolutely delicious, with bright well-balanced flavors. The cerviche was the best I've had in USA. Servers were all very polite, describing each dish as they presented it to us (and we were there on a busy Saturday night). Because we were on Dine LA Menu, it did feel like they were pushing the cocktail menu, as a way to drive up the bill -- but we had planned to order a cocktail, so it didn't bother us. Overall we really loved it and will happily return."

  • "Picca for dineLA. Arrived early & had a drink at the bar, which were good-Mr. Green-spicy, & the tequila old fashioned, until my husband found a hair in his cocktail. We got seated & found it interesting how the server pushed us not to do the dineLA. He suggested we order 3-4 dishes each to start & we could always get more. We didn't really want to order all plates up front but he was fairly persistent, mentioned we only wanted 1-2 plates to come at once so we could sit/enjoy/talk about the food. We did as he said, food came out fast-3 plates at once & we watched food get cold. We also didn't need 6 dishes-we were stuffed! Excellent-Seabass ceviche, black mussels w/bacon, crispy duck leg. Good-baby back ribs, paella. Skip-beef skewer."

  • "it is now European fusion cross over with Peru. the thing is they rush the delivery so fast, i feel like it is MacDonald. i have to tell the waitress to slow down, but other people still keep at it, eventually we literally have to stop eating and leave food on the plate to slow down the pace for them. I think it is amazing efficiency, but the rush seem to only apply to Restaurant week people as other people who are on regular menu didn't seem to be hammer so heavily with empty dish take away immediately and then the next plate deliver with in 30 seconds."

  • "Had the Picca Dine LA menu, I have recently returned from vacationing in Peru, and wanted to try the foods I enjoyed there. My recommendations are the ceviche and rice with clams. I left wanting to try the rice with Sea Urchin, but was not part of the tasting menu. The Pisco sour was as good as the ones I had in Cusco, I would definitely go back."

  • "I reserved for two, a week before. We arrived to be seated at a table from which another couple had just been re-seated. We soon knew why - it was freezing, under the air conditioning (we were moved to another table mid-meal). We waited 20 minutes for water, another twenty minutes for pre-meal cocktails. The DineLA menu was four tapas and a dessert. These were nothing special, and so small that we ended up sharing an additional (overpriced) "surf and turf." Two of the tapas were served on small bits of bread, as if to fill up the unsuspecting. Worst, I had to ask for our wine FOUR times before it was brought, well past mid-meal, having asked for it to be served with the food. Some of the worst service I have ever had; food not worth price."

  • "The food at Picca is nothing but amazing. We ordered family style and each dish that came out was delicious, flavorful and unique. I love the Causa Bar menu, which was my favorite, as well as the other dishes on the menu. My only complaint would be that the scallops were too salty. I don't know if it's always prepared like this, but it was definitely very salty. It left a salty residue in my mouth after eating. Could be isolated. I'll try again next time."

  • "This is my 5th time to Picca and it still never disappoints. It's my 1st time going for DineLA however, and the menu was spectacular as usual. The menu had a diverse selection of items that included typical favorites and new creations. Great for those who like to sample different dishes and portions are decently sized for parties of 2 or 3. I will go back until I've tried everything on the menu."

Restaurant suffers from inadequate seating options and hostess staff who will, despite your reservation, give you the worst table in the house every time if you don't stop them. Picca food is for sharing multiple small plates. Their typical table for 4 simply makes that an uncomfortable experience as there is not enough space. And don't agree to sit upstairs- leave if that's all they have as that whole experience isn't worth your money."

  • "We went to Picca for Dine LA and took part in their special tasting menu. Despite the fact the dishes were obviously being prepared en masse, the food was excellent. I can only imagine that the cuisine is even better during normal weeks. Thank God the food was good, though, because the rest of the experience was awful. We sat upstairs where it was at least 80 degrees, if not warmer. The waiter told us the A/C was on full-blast, but it must have been broken because our entire group was sweating. I even had to take my shirt off! (I had an undershirt on, thankfully.) Everyone around us also looked hot and uncomfortable. Additionally, our waiter seemed rushed and inattentive the entire evening."

  • "The food was decent, nothing to write home about. It wasn't bad by any means... but it also wasn't amazing, like I had hoped. However, we were seating upstairs and it was hot and humid up there. The server poured us glasses of luke warm water. I had to repeatedly ask for some ice. After which, he brought be 4 ice-cubes. FOUR. There were 4 of us at the table... so I guess 1 ice cube per person. This one ice cube obviously melted rather quickly. He never brought us more. I would have given the place 3 stars... but the lack of ice resulted in me subtracting 1 star."

  • "Multiple people recommended Picca over the last 6 months. I was excited to try this up and coming restaurant but was disappointed by the food. The service and ambiance were great, but each dish was bland, sour, or overpowering. We ordered 6 different dishes and each one was disappointing. It was edible, but nothing close to what I was expecting."
