A word from Piatti - La Jolla
A tradition to many La Jollans, this Italian bistro serves fresh authentic regional Italian cuisine. A landmark Ficus tree takes up one corner of their very popular patio, but the bright and cheerful dining room is delightful during the day or on those chilly evenings when it’s too cold to sit outside. The menu is presented in an innovative and creative fashion offering a wide variety of pastas, pizza and grilled items. In addition, you may find many vegetarian and health conscious dishes. Brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday and includes specialties such as Uovo Benedetto (Eggs Benefits served on grilled polenta with basil hollandaise) along with omelets and breakfast pizzas.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I reserved to be seated under the beautiful tree and we had an amazing night. The food, the service, everything was special."

  • "Server was professional and attentive love the warm bread and olive oil vinegar and garlic for dipping. Spinach salad was ok, but a little pricey at 12+. Pasta dish was excellent, portion was a little small. Fish special was excellent. Baked chicken though was a fail as it was overcooked and dry. Overall a decent meal, but I would not rave about it. "

  • "My husband and son love the sweetbreads there. I love the smoked salmon salad and the rolotini in a porcini mushroom cream sauce. Delicious! Our waitress was most accommodating. We love the nice touch of special titled menus for special occasions. The only drawback was the noise level. The tables indoors were quite close together, and the noise level escalated. However, the food and experience was worth it."

  • "Food is always excellent. This time, I came for early dinner with two young children. Server was not only excellent, but especially friendly and responsive to kids. "

  • "Good venue for group of 6 diners. Wait staff was efficient and offered good suggestions. "

  • "Great food and a great view. I went in for brunch with a group of four people. Usually the service is spectacular, but it appeared our waitress was not having a great day. The food more than made up for it. I plan to go back for more brunches. Would definitely recommend. "

  • "Good vibe, good service, uninspired food. The best part of our meal was the bread and dipping sauce. I had the spinach and grilled radicchio salad. My husband had the cannelloni. My salad leaves arrived limp, they were so overloaded with dressing. Although the dressing was tasty, there was simply too much. The grilled radicchio was a gloppy sad topping to the salad that reassembled a dead rat. There is an art to grilling lettuce. For one, you cannot overuse olive oil. My husband's cannelloni was heavy and overfilled with braised beef. The light ricotta filling that is the signature taste of cannelloni was missing We will try again, because we have had better experiences in the past."

  • "Great location, wonderful Italian food, and very reasonable prices. Three things you rarely hear together in La Jolla just a few blocks from the ocean. Definite must if you are in the area!"

  • "We celebrated our son's 6th birthday and had a wonderful dining experience both for the kids and the adults. Very friendly, attentive and personalized service. Food was excellent. Great atmosphere on the patio."

  • "Salad was over dressed, pizza crust was like soggy cardboard, risotto was too heavy. Ambiance is great. Food is better at Olive Garden. Service was average."

  • "Prices are a little outrageous. Salads at $12, really? Everything is A la carte. So total bill adds up quickly. Water was served without ice. We were seated at a table for four just off the bar. It was so noisy I struggled to hear my dinner companion's conversation. I guess we could have asked for a different table, but they were super busy- even on a Tuesday night. For the money, I'd rather be somewhere more comfortable."

  • "If you eat on the patio you might be in Tuscany -- noise level is also much reduced. Setting is VERY pleasant. indoors is much louder and always seems more hectic. Food is Italian and all good to excellent. Fans of ravioli should try the home made ones with lemon sauce. Sweetbreads are excellent. Veal scallopini also. Wine by the glass or bottle. Full bar/"

  • "I am vacationing and took a friend and my adult son to dinner at Piatti's. We had utterly delightful food, and the waiter was very charming, helpful, and sweet. I would go back for another dinner, (I don't know if they serve lunch or not) in a flash, but I am leaving today. Next time I am here, I will definitely make a reservation."

  • "The dip for the delicious warm, crusty bread is fabulous. Lots of garlic! However the lemon cream sauce on the (otherwise excellent) ravioli made my mouth pucker. Balance was not struck with the cream!"

  • "Piatti is a very pleasant, casual spot with several locations in S. california. We were at the one close to La Jolla Shores beach. For brunch, I had a pecan french toast with mascarpone that was a wonderful treat (although syrup should be served on the side). I also had a side of homemade Italian sausage and a great mimosa. My partner had a fritatta with eggs, spinach and chorizo that he loved. Perfect spot for a relaxing Sunday meal."

  • "I went to Piatti for the first with my girlfriend. I looked up different restaurants and this one caught my eye. The restaurant itself did not seem that big, but not uncomfortably small. It seemed pretty busy so we didn't expect to get our meals right away. I was wrong, they had our food very quickly. And definitely delicious. I can see myself returning here soon. Almost forgot to mention, like an idiot I left my debit card there after paying! Luckily one of the waitresses was quick to call me and inform me before I was too far away. Great service during dinner and after."

  • "Piatti"s is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant. The food is always good and the service is excellent. The prices are good and we always enjoy a meal there."

  • "Like the old song, she ain't what she used to be! Some of the dishes that have been enjoyed in the past have diminished in portion size and quality (taste). Sadly, now just an OK restaurant."

  • "We split the field greens salad, my wife had the cannelloni and I the cavatappi, and we split a slice of lemon cheesecake. All that was excellent, accompanied by the bread and fine olive-oil dip and a glass each of Chianti. Service was prompt without pressure and the bill was reasonable. One of the best meals we've had this year. Nice work!"

  • "Waitstaff was excellent in all regards and made superb recommendations. Entire staff had great attitudes and made us feel as though we were guests at their home. Kitchen's preparation of all courses was well paced, creative, and most importantly tasted authentic. Congratulations to the restaurant's leadership at all levels --- this type of success does not happen by chance."

  • "Well done Italian food beyond just the basics. Staff knowledgeable about gluten-free, and GF menu offered plenty of options (including GF pasta). Penne with braised lamb, tomatoes, and mint was great. On the GF side, the corn-based pasta was a nice surprise (as opposed to more common rice-based pasta), it was a fine host for the chicken, asparagus, tomatoes, and gorgonzola sauce. Wine menu not extensive, but adequate, and staff had reasonable recommendations."

  • "This particular location is a true neighborhood gem the way it is designed around an amazing huge old tree which is strung with lights. Totally ambient, romantic and tranquil. The food is consistently outstanding with the menu offerings changing seasonally. The service is topnotch with the waiters very helpful in directing your choices."

  • "My family and friends all love the food at Piatti's, and have always received excellent service. I like to allow some extra time before or after the meal for a nice walk in the neighborhood or down to the beach. Thank you, Piatti's La Jolla, for many lovely meals."

  • "When in the neighborhood we always go here. It's so consistent that the menu does not change. Even so, the specials are always intriguing. This night, we split the ceaser, I had a sausage pizza and my spouse had the trout special. I really liked the pizza, particularly the thin crust. My spouse loved the trout. Very good experience."

  • "This is truly the best Italian in San Diego! The taste was complex and delicious. The cauliflower cakes were spectacular. The lamb penne exquisite. The service was just right without the nuisance factor. All in all a terrific experience that will be repeated!"

  • "Piatti's can always be counted in to deliver great food from a diverse menu with a good range of selection of nightly specials. Never disappoints."

  • "Cute restaurant! Seems very popular, nice outdoor seating area. The bread and garlic vinegar olive oil dipping sauce was the best. Fried calimari so so, pizza so so, pasta dishes are good. Last time I has the ahi tuna salad special and that was pretty bad :( the fish wasn't fresh and it was so salty ... Like something one would get at Costco! Overall food was very carb heavy, desserts too sweet. I suppose one shouldn't be expecting a healthy meal at an Italian restaurant but the taste wasn't worth the calories!"

  • "My husband and I have been coming here for close to 12 years now and it's still by far our favorite restaurant! We now live in Temecula so we will drive an hour just to eat here and walk along la jolla shores. The food is amazing as always and the servers are wonderful."

  • "I eat out a lot. Mostly I find that it all comes down to service as the food is usually good to great in the restaurants that I choose. Our waiter was Mathew. And he was so friendly and made great suggestions And his attention to detail made all the difference. I got there before my friends, who were tied up in traffic. He brought my cocktail promptly with yummy hot bread and I was happy to have ten minutes alone before my Friends arrived. He suggested that he put the mussels back to stay warm and the second they arrived out came the hot mussels and more hot bred, just getting that timing right made all the difference."

  • "Having a large tree in the outdoor dining area makes the ambience special. The salad dish I had was delicious with still grilled warm mushrooms, Marcona almonds and greens. The flour less chocolate cake was very chocolaty and delicious. The service was attentive but not invasive."

Everything was great. Glad we had a reservation on a Tuesday night. By 630p, they were turning people away at the door. Will definitely be back."

  • "Piatti's is close to where we live, in La Jolla Shores, but I would drive a long way to frequent it, if necessary. We go often, and have never had a bad meal. They have the most delicious dip for the warm bread they serve us during drinks, a lovely peach tea for non-drinkers, and the food is consistently delicious. The wait staff is very professional, knowledgable, and eager to please. We eat out often, and Piatti's has become my go-to spot."

  • "We had a great meal from start to finish starting with the bread and olive oil on the table. The grilled salad was good. The pasta is homemade and sauces they use wonderful. We had the veal picatta and the lamb stew on pasta- both excellent. This was the best meal we had on our California trip. The prices were very reasonable. It was crowded and noisy even during the week. Reservations a must. Located near our hotel in Lajolla Shores."
