A word from Pearl in the Grove
Elegant, hand crafted foods and boutique wines are the focus in this relaxed and intimate 40 seat dining room, just north of Tampa in rural St. Joe. A winding bucolic drive through orange groves, hills and cattle ranches, this is an unexpected haven away from congested cookie cutter Florida. The Pearl in the Grove is a European bistro with Panhandle roots and definitely an experience worth the drive out of town.

The experience is many things at once: ancestral Southern with hints of Creole, a dash of Western European simplicity, easy Sunday suppers served family style, luxurious, leisurely Brunch. Wine pairing dinners. Craft and local beers. Simple ingredients feel sophisticated but fun and effortless, like the New Orleans heritage jazz that plays in the background.

Our server was very knowledgable about the menu and the food sources, friendly and helpful. Our group would be in the "seniors" catagory with dietary constraints and although well prepared and did not contain any ingredients that we had previously warned our server about, was too rich and spicy for some of us. I would definitely call this southern cooking and we are not accustomed to this cuisine. The dessert left us unimpressed, Apple tart was terrible, tough tasteless crust and bland tasteless apples. Also had a pumpkin cake that was very good. Restaurant was highly recommended by a relative who is very adventurous and a "gourmand" who loves this restaurant, just was not for us. Also, for us and where we were staying the restaurant is off the beaten path, missed a turn and ended up lost for about 20 minutes.

The food is excellent and the service is outstanding it would be hard for me to describe the food because the dishes are out of this world I have been dining at this restaurant since they opened and Rebecca and Curtis have done a great job on the menu and the food that they serve I dined out a lot but I've never found the type of dishes on this menu in any other restaurant before keep up the good work

The restaurant is located in the middle of nowhere. It is a converted old house, filled with second hand furniture and decorations. It has a ery nice cozy homespun feel to it. Very comfortable. And then the food! Outstanding. Exactly what I would have NOT expected from a place like I just described. Fit for a foodie! I'm not going to describe it - just eat and enjoy!

We celebrated my husband's birthday at The Pearl in the Grove this pas week, and it was one of the finest meals we have ever had. My husband had the Catfish Meuniere - delicate Alabama farm-raised catfish that's pan fried and topped with a sauce of pecans, butter, wine and shallots. I had the whole organic poussin, and it is now my favorite fried chicken ever! We were treated to fresh bread with three types of butter (the maple butter was to die for). I am a self-professed, proud foodie and The Pearl did not disappoint my adventurous palette. Give it a try. You'll come away full and happy!

What a gem! After living in cities that host some of the best restaurants in the nation it's so refreshing to find a unique and divinely executed menu in an area you would not expect it. Service was great, the food was above par, and the setting was so romantic! We have already told all of our friends about it and will definitely be back!

Our first time for dinner and rewarding. Atmosphere is "upscale rustic", a nice surprise since the joint doesn't look like much outside. Candles, white covers, good table spacing. Service was excellent, prompt, pleasant, coordinated: only issue, the waiter's insistence on reading the whole menu. At our table of 5 there were only two dishes that were "duds" - a bland duck soup and a cold, tasteless rice pudding. All the rest was terrific: clams in beer with greens, "Yangmein", a riff on New Orleans Vietnamese noodle soup (but with pasta), gnocchi with mushrooms, a plain-looking but fabulous brown butter cake. Large portions. Lots of other interest for next time: shrimp, cheeses, pork belly. Get over that this place is in the sticks: GO

This was a special occasion...celebrating mom's birthday month...a bit of a challenge to find (signage is poor)...but a true jewel once you find it...thus the name ...pearl in the grove. The owners also offer another place in San antonio florida which is also very food...public house and provisions I think it's called...I've been to both and will return to both.

We were seated immediately at the nicest table at the restaurant. They were out of a Chenin blanc we ordered, but came back with 2 other comparable wines for us to taste. We settled for the Italian white which was delicious. Everything we ordered was yummy, the clams in beer sauce which came with homemade garlic toast, the duck breast and rainbow trout, roasted veggies (okra, squash, zucchini, gr beans were nice little surprise) Duck came w/creamy risotto & trout came with tender little white beans. Before our entrees, we shared a delicious champagne-colored beet salad which was very unique and tasty. Make sure to leave room for dessert. The evening did not disappoint. Everything was wonderful and the service was impeccable! We will be back!

While the service was excellent, the food was lacking in flavor and seasoning, which resulted in a so-so eating experience. Also, while I recognize the establishment was a restored older residence, the ambiance was zero. More could and should be done to make the time at the restaurant more appealing and enjoyable. Not the fine dining experience I was hoping for.

What a wonderful find in the back roads of the countryside! Pearl was a great blend of unique yet local. All of the dishes our party of four had illustrated this and we each tasted and enjoyed all 4. The pork bellies dish was our favorite which frankly surprised us all. Even the simple side vegetable dish tasted like it had just come out of the garden. Even the simple decor reflected the local area. A truly lovely experience.

Be cautioned by reviews you read on line about Pearl in the Grove. It looks like an old corner quick mart; it's entryway was not welcoming - no fresh potted plants, no seasonal snippets. The antiquish items scattered around the entrance were dirty and dusty; a bunch of empty wine bottles piled by the door..... Inside everything is white, no fresh flowers or candles. Concrete block walls, concrete floor, one old bathroom shared by ladies and gents. Friend chicken not totally cooked; the biscuit appeared to be from a dough can and was burned on the bottom. My order came out wrong twice. Good: salad, home made bread, wine and beer list. No grove......where's the grove??

After checking out the reviews in Open Table, we made a reservation for four people. Upon our arrival, we were greeted at the door and were immediately seated. The waiter was friendly and helpful, and was able to answer all of our questions about the menu. I ordered the Bruschetta and the Shrimp Creole. Both were very enjoyable and satisfying, although the Creole could have been spicier. But, addition of hot sauce quickly compensated. IMO it's better to receive the meal underspiced than overspiced. The wine recommendation was "spot on". Desert was also good. We all enjoyed our experience, and will go there again. It's nice to have another quality restaurant in the area. Loved the atmosphere. I will definitely recommend this restaurant.

In an area with very limited upscale dining, this little local gem did not disappoint. They strive to use ingredients from local farms and suppliers, and the menu (and decor) was innovative and reflective of Old Florida. We started with Fried Green Tomato Caprese which was excellent; they then served an amuse-bouche of cubed golden beets, blue cheese crumbles and balsamic reduction. Although they were out of the Porkbelly entree my husband chose, he was very happy with his Rabbit Confit as was I, with the homemade Pappardelle with sliced Grass Fed Beef that I ordered. Since it was my husband's birthday, we had dessert waiting at home but if we hadn't I would have chosen their Bread Pudding. We will be returning so we can try the Porkbelly!

I have passed this place a few times while riding my motorcycle out that way. It is actually in the middle of a grove and made for a great scenic dinner ride for my husband and I as we rode our motorcycles out there for dinner. The food was a surprise even though I had read the reviews, it was incredibly delicious. The service was also great. Our waiter was not only efficient but friendly. The owner's wife was also on hand to stop by our table and say hello. The owner was actually cooking over at their new restaurant (Local) which I plan to try real soon. Pearl in The Grove was wonderful and I also plan to try their brunch in the near future.
