Diner Reviews
  • "Been here twice. Both times excellent. Guacamole and margaritas fantastic."

  • "I love Mexican food. I also love authentic Mexican food that isn't just burritos and enchiladas. While Paxia offers these, they offer more traditional dishes from Mexico like Mole. We went at 6:30 and there was a live band very close to our table. I'm not a fan of loud music over my dinner conversation and 6:30 seemed like it probably wasn't the crowd a live band was in business for. Aside from my preference for not having loud noise the dinner was great."

  • "Loved the food at this place. Plenty of choices and creative authentic Mexican food, not Tex-mex. Service was very friendly even explaining ingredients we were not familiar with. The tilapia ceviche was excellent, they should offer that as a separate dish like the shrimp ceviche and not just on the trio ceviche platter. Can't wait to go back and try one of the Mole dishes."

  • "Always accommodating and consistent in the food and service. They had a Spanish guitar player the night we went who was amazing! It was a little bit loud but worth it - really amped up the ambience."

  • "Paxia has many variations of what one would think of as typical Mexican dishes. Our group had three different dishes and they were all very tasty. Guacamole is prepared at your table and is worth a try."

  • "My husband, daughter and son-in-law, and I had a great time at Paxia last weekend! Chiles en Nogada is my very favorite along with the guacamole made right at our table. Excellent margaritas! Finished it off with flan! Delightful!"

  • "Eaten at Paxia many times and it's getting better. On Friday they had a really good classical guitar that really added to the ambiance. OMG, the chorizo shrimp were fantastic. Everyone in our party, four of whom had never been to Paxia, loved it."

  • "We ordered the shrimp fajitas and they were delicious. I had just had fajitas in San Antonio, TX and the ones at Paxia were superior to those!"

  • "This restaurant is convenient and the pricing fair. We went for lunch and there weren't a lot of people in the restaurant. They had the music blaring to a level that was uncomfortable and the waiter said the owner wouldn't let the employees touch the music. Food was ok. Presentation is great but (for example) on a quesadilla they had skimped on cheese. I'd like to see this place improve and hope it will."

  • "We had a very good time. Our only reservation was how loud the restaurant was."

  • "The food was not only wonderful, but along with more traditional fare there was a lot of unique Mexican dishes, not the same old. Table side guac was great."

  • "We love Paxia for its attention to detail and its authentic cuisine. We have never had better carnitas or mole anywhere! Our server was helpful and cheerful, and we scored a seat next to the fireplace. We also appreciate that during restaurant week, we did not have to order from the restaurant week menu but could choose from it. Chocolate cake topped with flan and horchata is a treat we did not expect! Thanks."

  • "We were a group of eight and seated in the fireplace room at Paxia. A snowy and cold evening made the fireplace an appreciated surprise. The friendly waitress took our drink orders and promptly served them. Several in our party decided to order off the menu instead of ordering from the Restaurant Week menu. Those of us that did the RW menu were treated to a vegetable soup full of veggies or delicately spiced meatballs beautifully plated. We were pleased we ordered the pork entree . Tender pulled pork in a smokey, mild sauce. Dessert choices were a chocolate cake flan with rum sauce served separately or Tres Leches. Both were generous servings and a nice close to the meal. Delightful evening, suburb food. We will return soon!!"

  • "Wend for denver food week. their fixed menu didn't really hilite what they do well. the duck mole was dumped with sauce and overcooked. the steak was very bland and presented no different than far cheaper places to eat. desserts unremarkable. the mini peppers were like something I could order at costco. the poloma cocktail was good and the ceviche was excellent. I just didn't feel they paid much attention or care to the $30 dinner menu."

  • "Interesting turn on Mexican food, but with an enjoyable atmosphere and very accommodating staff...I'd go back."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed Paxia. It didn't seem inordinately loud, as some reviews suggested. The margaritas were among the best we've had recently, and the quac was good. All food was tasty and of fine quality, if not exceptional. The night was very busy, so servers were a bit stretched. This was fine, as we were in no hurry. We had an enjoyable evening."

  • "Amazing food and good atmosphere but because it was Valentine's Day we had to wait for 30 minutes past what our reservation was for, Overall I had a good experience."

  • "Paxia is unique amongst Mexican restaurants. They feature a number of regional Mexican dishes which are excellent. Great atmosphere. Looking forward to a return visit."

  • "We took a chance and visited this restaurant on Friday, February 7, 2014. In short, we were extremely disappointed. Having never dined at Paxia before, I sought the advice of our waitress for dinner suggestions. When I asked our waitress what she would consider to be the specialty of the house, she highly recommended the Carnitas. If that is the specialty, this place is in trouble. The cold plate that the meal was served on offered 2 dried out pieces of pork, a dollop of guacamole, and what I can only describe as a side of coleslaw. It was so bad I could barely wash it down with my Margarita. When the waitress asked how my meal was, I told her it was "pretty dry." Her response was to giggle."

  • "Having grown up in Puebla, Mexico, I was looking forward to trying the food at Paxia. I must say, the flavors were true to tastes of Puebla. The Mole (Poblano) was obviously made from scratch and tasted like a true Poblano made it. The Tinga was also a very true flavor with a touch of a spicy kick. I was wishing that they had Molotes de Tinga so it could be ordered as a full meal instead of the appetizer. The Chile Enogada was also very good. The nut sauce in which these are traditionally smothered was a little bit lean. However, those nuts very difficult to find 9 months out of year...so doing something different with this dish made sense. I would highly recommend Paxia. If you like Mole...this is a MUST."

  • "We came here before going to the theater recently and it was a very good experience. We had an early reservation, so for the first part of our meal the ambiance was nice and service was spot-on. As the restaurant got busier toward the end the noise level definitely rose to a distracting level and service got a little spottier (had to wave down a couple servers before someone was available to clear appetizer dishes so the main course could fit on the table). Food was delicious however. We will definitely try again."

  • "Paxia has great Authentic Mexican food. Its beer, cocktail and tequila lists are good. The interior is very well done in a Mexican idiom; the lighting is good. The wait staff is pleasant and cheery. Too bad the service is so poor. By example, the first item we ordered, a freshly made guacamole, arrived last, even after we complained. The other appetizers and the main courses arrived concurrently. That's no way to treat a diner. The poor service has happened to us here before, when the place is busy. Paxia needs to change this."

  • "This is a great place to go for Mexican food in Denver. The waitress was very helpful and had great suggestions for vegetarian dishes."

  • "The food is excellent and a wonderful way to leave tex-mex dining out. I would recommend this place to anyone without reservation. Drinks are also good. They are having mariachis tonight and I would love to be there. It is reminiscent of places in Mexico but the food is better. Don't take our words for it. Go and give it a try."

  • "The food is delicious. Tortillas and chips are made in-house, and the service is wonderful. A sweet setting. Highly recommend!"

  • "We went to this lovely little Mexican place awhile ago, and it was fabulous, great food (not your usual tex/mex glop), nice wine list, good service, ambience, etc, so I was anxious to try it again with another friend. It was okay but the food was not nearly the caliber of last time. Everything else was fine, service and atmosphere. Maybe it was because it was early Sunday eve with a Bronco game on and the kitchen just wasn't as connected? I'm going to try it again and hope that we have a repeat of the first experience, I'd still recommend it and hope it was a fluke the second time!"

  • "Everyone really enjoyed their food. It was delicious! Some different takes on traditional Mexican food. After we ordered, the food came out quickly. It took a long time, however, to get the meal started with chips and drinks, so that was disappointing. Overall, a good dining experience. And again, the food was excellent as well as creative."

  • "Paxia has become our go to place for an upscale Mexican dining experience, without the upscale price. The food is not only unique, but quite delicious. Excellent margaritas prepared with fresh ingredients and fabulous service from an attentive and helpful staff. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for something different than the average Mexican restaurant."

  • "I particularly enjoyed the guac. It was made to order, and SO fresh tasting. Being able to order by degree (mild, medium or hot) was a real plus, too!"

  • "We had a fun and tasteful night at Paxia. It was my husbands Birthday and I wanted to go someplace new. I had heard good things about Paxia so I wanted to try it. The service was excellent everyone was friendly. And the food was Great!"

  • "I went to Paxia expecting great things, but the ratings were a little exaggerated. Everyone says you have to have the table side guacamole, what a disappointment. The kid came over, asked how hot and stirred some avocados. 3 minutes later he set a bowl of mashed avocados on our table and walked away. I ordered the Chiles en Nogada. What a great flavor combination. Every bite was a little different flavor explosion in my mouth. This is something I would definitely recommend ordering if you decide to go to Paxia. My husband ordered the chicken mile and you should pass on this one. We went on to order dessert, but again, disappointed. Don't bother with the flan, order the sorbet. Overall, just did not meet my expectations."

  • "It was disappointing that the "table side" guacamole was not done table side. The restaurant is REALLY noisy and hard at times to even hear the folks at your table. The food was ok - I think it was clouded by the slow service. It took forever for us to put in our drink order and longer for our drinks to get to our table. Overall, i was somewhat disappointed but may try again."

  • "I coordinated a lunch outing for myself and 15 co-workers. In the past with such a big group, it has taken up to 3 hours for us to do a lunch like this. In an effort to make things a little more streamlined, I phoned Paxia and asked if I could pre-order everyone's lunch to have it ready 15 minutes after our arrival. To push the limits even more, I asked if it would be possible for each of us to have separate checks. "No problem". Our table was all set with Chips and Salsa (delicious!) on arrival. We had our own private room where we could talk across the table to each other without having to worry about bothering other guests. The food was great! And our lunch ended up just taking over an hour (a record)."
