Diner Reviews
  • "IMAGINE a velvety smooth red bean soup followed by an amazing CRISPY tomato ( hollowed, breaded and flash fried or baked) filled with chilled shrimp, followed by spicy breaded oysters in cups of lettuce with Stilton cheese and finely shredded carrots, followed by golf ball sized scoops of MOLASSES ICE CREAM in a lacy spun sugar basket...........FOR LUNCH! Then stop imagining and go get it at the PALACE CAFE'."

  • "Met friend from out of state for "ladies who lunch" time. I arrived early and was seated at the bar for some iced tea and very interesting conversation w/ the bartender. Everyone was so friendly and helpful! When the rest of my party arrived, we were seated where we could see Canal St. and have room for my friend's baby stroller. Service was - as always - impeccable. A beverage server took our orders quickly and he and the "bus boy" kept our drink glasses filled throughout the meal. Two of the ladies had the Temperature Special - pulled pork - and I had the burger. Everything was delicious and very nicely plated. We were privy to the preparation of Bananas Foster at the table next to us - but we passed on dessert (this time). We'll be back."

  • "I've been to the Palace Cafe several times. I had friends and family in for the 4th. Went to PC for Temperature lunch (what a let down?! Chicken salad?) and no Panini of the day. Totally disappointing."

  • "I have passed by The Palace Cafe on Canal Street many times. Always seemed to be a vibrant scene, so I finally tried it this weekend. The menu wwas disappointing and needs updating if the restaurant is going to compete with the world class chefs in New Orleans. Food was okay, certainly not great or worth "writing home about"."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed the Palace Café, which is predictably good in terms of menu and ambience--consistent quality and a nice selection of items on the menu. In the past I have found this restaurant to be a favorite with out of town guests as well as locals."

  • "The atmosphere was very classy and the food was reasonable but our food was less than remarkable. Seems like a tourist spot, i could not recommend this place to anyone. My chicken was replaced quickly but it was just NOT as overcooked as the first one. I was curious why it took 5 minutes to replace and 25 minutes initially. Weird!"

  • "What an enjoyable time we had on Sunday morning. Great entertainment with a wonderful Jazz group and incredible food. The service was excellent! We couldn't decide which of us had the best meal. One of us had the pecan covered catfish and the other the crab and cheese quiche. Wow! Then for dessert we were brought a white chocolate bread pudding that was unbelievable! We'll be back. The good service, ambience and delicious food made one feel that the staff cares about EXCELLENCE!"

  • "The interior of the Palace Cafe is handsome and classy, the bow-tied waiters are very attentive, and the food is very good and nicely presented. Outside on Canal Street is is busy, noisy, and a mix of good hotels and rather flashy, cheap shops, so we avoided the sidewalk seating and opted for the elegant interior."

  • "We had dinner on the 2nd floor overlooking Canal Street. The scenery was fabulous and the fish we ordered was outstanding. I would definitely go back again the next time I am in New Orleans."

  • "Not the Show. No wait on Saturday night so were seated early for reservation. But too rushed. Salad plate came off table then entrees appeared in next second, literally. And way too loud--gave me a headache. But the food is very good. Wine list a bit too pretentious as well."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed Palace Cafe. We started with the shrimp remoulade for our appetizer and it was absolutely delicious. The entree was the andouille encrusted fish, WOW, it was outstanding and very filling. We were too full for dessert. The service was exceptional, everyone was attentive! Would recommend this for any occasion!"

  • "We had heard much good about this restaurant and were very much looking forward to our dinner here. It was a sad experience from the beginning. A nasty waiter who didn't even take drink orders, salty food, bitter salads, rushed out the door…no smiles, greetings…NOTHING! With so many wonderful choices available in New Orleans, this restaurant better sit up and take notice! A major disappointment all around. Find somewhere else to dine! This is not the place!!!"

  • "Hostess and server were polite, but food was HORRIBLE! Both my husband and I ordered non-alcoholic cocktails (no-jito and nai-ti) and they both tasted like scope mouthwash. My salad was bitter and our duck and garlic gumbo tasted like canned beef stew. The manager asked other patrons about their dining experience, but ignored us. Needless to say, we will not be back!"

  • "From the moment my party of four walked into palace café, it was absolutely wonderful. The entire staff was extremely nice and helpful. Our servers (we had 3) were all very professional and helpful as well. From the drinks all the way to the very last bite of dessert (which I couldn't finish) was excitingly good!! The portions of good may seem small at first but do not let that fool you, I didn't eat again til the next morning. ( and I myself usually eat about an hour after u eat a big meal.( What can I say I love food) ..we will most definitely be going back. We love our city and fell in love with this place. The live jazz band was a wonderful touch for fathers day"

  • "Be forewarned there is a group of "singers" that they let in that travel the entire restaurant singing for tips. Lots of clapping for the beat that goes on forever through the two story restaurant and I swear the same song got sang at least twice."

  • "I took my grandson and his girl friend to the Palace Café on June 8 to celebrate their graduations from LSU. I have been to the Palace Café many times, and have never been disappointed in the food, service, or ambience. This meal was no exception. We had a fine waiter, Nigel, assisted by David, who knew the menu well and picked up from the little I said that I probably wouldn't like the entrée I'd picked and suggested another that was perfect. The service was attentive, but unobtrusive. The jazz trio played on the landing between the two floors--you can hear and see them, but the music doesn't overpower conversation. They came to our table to play for the graduates and we settled on a rousing TIGER RAG."

  • "This is a mandated stop each time my wife and I visit New Orleans. Prior to arriving we reserve a table and just enjoy a great brunch on Sunday. The meal starts with great service, a drink and a very good loaf of bread. Then we move onto the spinach salad and eggs benedict which are delicious. I would recommend planning a meal here when you visit N'awlins!"

  • "Took our 15-yr. old grandson who was visiting from NC for lunch. We arrived early but hostesses were great and seated us early. Waiters were knowledgeable and service was prompt. We all had different entrees and everyone loved their selection. Great food----We had Bananas Foster- spectacular! Definitely will be returning again soon. "

  • "We wife and I dined here a few weeks ago for lunch and all of the food was excellent. But as good as the turtle soup and crawfish étouffée were, the pecan pie blew them away! It really was incredible. I'm normally very MEH when it comes to pecan pie. But this one was crazy good with a great topping and a side of their home made butter pecan ice cream. I think the ice cream and the pie really complemented each other and made it a great dish! Service was also top notch. Always there when you needed something, but not overbearing."

  • "We were looking forward to our brunch at the Palace because the menu looked like they had some really nice dishes and the live music sounded like fun. The disappointment started when we checked in at the desk and had to wait ten minutes, despite having reservations. The service can best be described as indifferent. Even though there was a server solely responsible for drinks and dessert it was still difficult to get a coffee refill. I had the eggs benedict, which was pulled pork on a biscuit, and my husband had the pain perdu. Both were good, but didn't arrive to the table hot. The jazz trio went from table to table, which I hate, because it's uncomfortable and just seems like they're begging for tips. "

  • "We went for Sunday brunch with 4 adults and a 10 month old. Great place to bring a child due to the noise level. It wasn't overly noisy but good enough to not bother anyone when he was begging for more Crabmeat Cheesecake. The Jazz band was great and even let the little one play with the trumpet. The "make your own bloody mary" bar was great... even had bacon infused local vodka. The Café Eggs Benedict was delicious also."

  • "Everything was wonderful on Mothers Day. my grandmother had the best mothers day ever. From the moment we arrived the service and staff were wonderful in making her fill welcome and enjoy the day. She has relocated to B.R. and said she had never had such a "GRAND" dining experience."

  • "We were running late on Memorial Day and they were about to close, but accomadated our reservation. The food was not rushed and it was excellent at a fair price. Kudos to our waiter, Devin who was so nice. If we hadn't had to leave the next day, we would have returned."

  • "Ordering a drink at brunch is stupidly complex, I'm tired and hungry I don't want a show or to stand in a line. I want to relax and have a pleasant time with friends. You CAN NOT hide scorched roux. You throw it out, you don't make gumbo out of it. And if you have a dish where the egg yolk is supposed to flow out onto the bread and make a sauce you better make sure it's not over cooked. They couldn't even get dessert right, one brownie with no nuts one with. No nuts at all and no cream for either. Once this was a great Brennan's jewel now it's tarnished costume jewelry half forgotten in the bottom drawer. "

  • "The shrimp tchefuncte was absolutely wonderful. The meunière sauce was perfect. New Orleans French bread is never as good at home as in its hometown and we devoured it. The server was very attentive and brought a new warm loaf as soon as we ate the last crust from the previous loaf....but she didn't hover....she was great. Out waiter was also very attentive but not intrusive. Try something from the cocktail menu. The rosemary ginger cooler was yummy."

  • "We went there for lunch and were surprised that brunch was being served. There was even a live band, which was playing on the staircase. This was the perfect place because it was not too loud on either floor. Our brunch food was wonderful. My husband loved the French toast and he is a very particular eater. Our service was quick and really good and our server was very friendly and helpful. We had a really nice experience and we will go back. I would highly recommend making a reservation on Open Table, as we were seated right away. When we left there was a crowd waiting to be seated. "
