Diner Reviews
  • "As always, The Palace Café is on the mark for great dining and a fun experience. Any of the seafood dishes are winners, but the entire menu is a vibrant taste of SE Louisiana cooking."

  • "This restaurant keeps its words. A couple of years ago, my wife received a card from the owner re complimentary dinner. Although she did not have the card on her person for our lunch visit, she retold the story. When we received our bill, my wife's entree was complimentary. The food here is very good. Thumbs up for both the burger (cooked to perfection and seasoned) as well as the chicken. If you order desser, the bananas foster is to die for. It is prepared tableside. "

  • "We were seated immediately upon arrival by a friendly hostess. Our wait staff was excellent at first and then somewhere in between he was replaced by someone else; we then waited to have our drinks refilled on a few occasions after trying to locate our new waiter - quite possibly, he was in training or new. I must say, the head waiter came over a few times to assist in clearing our table. Overall, the food and atmosphere was good, and I would return to eat there."

  • "We had an amazing meal at Palace Cafe. Wonderful food and very attentive staff. Our evening was perfect!"

  • "Being a Brennan restaurant, the food is excellent. Delicious creole dishes, of which the barbeque shrimp is a must as well as the original Banana's Foster made table-side with the story of how the Brennans invented this now world-famous dessert. The first floor, along with its outside tables, feels just like a cafe in Paris. The second floor, though, is my favorite if you can get a table by the large floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook Canal."

  • "I expected flawless service, excellent food, and a memorable meal. I had contacted them in advance about the vegetarian in our group & the options available. I was lead to believe it was not an issue. I had an excellent appetizer and fantastic dessert but my main course was disappointing. My steak was not cooked properly and it was warm at best. Our wait staff had so many large parties to deal with, we had difficulty getting their attention. I had a very decadent brownie that was most enjoyable. The vegetarian option was very salty & barely edible. When we alerted the staff, it was basically ignore because they were so busy. All in all, I'm glad that we went but if I'm ever in New Orleans again, I would not go back."

  • "Very busy lunch spot. Quality of food was not as good as I remembered from past visits. Service was great."

  • "Our second visit to The Palace Cafe and once again our food and service were outstanding! Service was very fast without feeling rushed, which we appreciated since we had a show to attend after dinner. So many great menu choices. All four of us chose different entrees and all were delicious. The location is perfect...near to hotels and other attractions in the French Quarter or event venues. Our next trip to New Orleans will definitely include another visit to The Palace Cafe."

  • "The restaurant was beautiful and the food was amazing. The service was terrible! We had three different servers, one fir food one for drinks and a bread and water server. There was no communication between the three. If we asked our bread server for another drink she just said I dont get drinks, not I will get yiur beverage server. I've been in the food industry for a long time and highly believe that you have a server and a busser! Over all I would say go for the delicious food just be prepared for awful service."

  • "Been to Palace Cafe many, many times - and that is because the food is simply awesome. It's a great lunch spot to see the scene and energy on Canal St., and the host stand honored our request on Open Table to be seated by the windows. The food is great...whatever I've ever ordered, I've loved. We went at 1:30 p.m. for a later lunch due to time zone travel, and unfortunately, think we caught the wait staff tired after the lunch rush and they were not attentive, they were forgetful (had to ask three times for ketchup for French Fries, the last time literally getting out of the seat and having to find the waiter while food got cold) and just not "on cue" for a restaurant that up until this point. But, no doubt an "off day." Go! Enjoy!"

  • "Canal Street at the edge of the Quarter. Really nice place for dinner. The food and prices are some of the best in NOLA."

  • "The dinner we ate at the Palace Cafe was excellent. The service was very good. I had the Andouille encrusted Black Drum and my wife had the chicken. We both had a wonderful time and will come back the next time ewe are in New Orleans."

  • "For a restaurant that was talked up as a New Orleans gem, we found the service to be terrible and the cuisine overpriced. We were sorry that we didn't just go to a casual local establishment for a better experience. The best part of the evening was the trio serenading the diners."

  • "Returning to NOLA after many years, I was excited to have brunch at Palace Cafe on Canal Street. The ambiance is exactly what you imagine a Jazz Brunch should be. The food was really good. The mimosas were delicious. The service was good, but towards the end I felt that we were being rushed a bit to leave - nothing verbal- just body language of the waiter. Otherwise, it was a delicious and enjoyable meal. I would definitely suggest to anyone visiting New Orleans for the first time or returning to explore the city."

  • "My husband and I travelled 2000 miles just to go back to The Palace Café! Their food is absolutely amazing! We even bought one of their cookbooks and had it signed by the chef! We will go back again and again!"

  • "We loved the Palace! The location is fantastic and the food is awesome! A place you don't want to miss. The Filet and Ribeye's were cooked to perfection. We enjoyed the oversized Shrimp and the lovely Brussel Sprout salad. They offer an extensive wine list and a nice dessert menu. The white chocolate bread pudding and cheesecake were worth trying."

  • "I dined at Palace Cafe twice during my recent stay in Nola - once for lunch outside on a beautiful day, once in a group of 12 for dinner and both were memorable. The Palace graciously accommodated a change to the size f our party last minute and seated and served us promptly. Our dishes were delicious- I tried shaved brussel sprout salad and the andouille crusted drum - both were delicious and I would order again. Thanks, Palace Cafe, for a lovely dinner."

  • "Loved the andouille crusted drum fish, rotisserie chicken, and blue cheese salad. Fun bustling atmosphere on a Friday evening and, even though very busy, the servers and host were very attentive to us. The bananas foster prepared table side by Kenneth was fun and delicious. We were happy to be there and if ever we get back to New Orleans we'll definitely go again."

  • "The atmosphere was nice. That's as good as it got. The dining was subpar for what I expected and the prices we paid. It started poorly with the drink server. My wife asked for a cocktail recommendation - something not sweet. The drink recommended was in fact very sweet and my wife returned it. She asked for a white wine and asked some basic questions the server could not answer. So she asked for a recommendation -- again something dry and not sweet. The savignion blanc served proved to be a sweet wine. The food was just ok -- nothing memorable - except for the gumbo, which was so watery I could rink it with a straw. Some may like that; I like some substance, at least more than a few grains of rice."

  • "First time there, but highly recommended. Authentic New Orleans atmosphere. Food was good. Lamb shank was a popular item on the menu. Crab claw appetizer is the small crab legs in a garlic butter sauce, not the large Blue crab type. Good spot to take customers and clients."

  • "Ate at Palace Cafe the second night of a 12-day trip to New Orleans. We had a long list of restaurants to try, but the dinner we had at Palace was so good we had to come back before we left town. The Shrimp Tehefuncte was amazingly good - roasted mushrooms and shrimp in a lovely meuniere sauce. Perfect! Partner had the Catfish Pecan, which he ordered at a number of restaurants - Palace Cafe's version was the best. Service good. Room was extremely noisy the night we ate downstairs - hard to hear others at the table. Second time we were seated upstairs and found it much quieter and more enjoyable."

  • "This meal started off well. We had a reservation and were seated shortly. Our drink order was taken. We ordered some appetizers that came promptly & were good; baked oyster & crabmeat cheesecake. Now the meal completely fell apart. My meal was room temperature and tasted burnt. I ordered a second glass of wine, twice & it never came. Both of our servers disappeared. I did not see them anywhere in the restaurant. After 1 1/2 hours, I finally left the group as they wanted to wait for dessert. I have been pleased with this restaurant in the past. I have been there for dinner. I will never go back for brunch & doubt I will go back for dinner. There are too many great restaurants in New Orleans to have to settle for that type of service & food."

  • "My husband and I had been the Palace Cafe about 14 years ago and it was one of those evenings that you always remember as perfect. When he made a reservation for my birthday this year, I wondered if it would live up to my memory of it. It did. We had a nice corner booth downstairs and were able to watch the passing foot traffic (great people watching!) The food was phenomenal. So many good choices. The Bananas Foster is a definite must do-made table-side with just the right amount of flair! The restaurant itself is beautiful and you can just imagine what it was like a few decades ago when people dressed for dinner and made it a true evening out."

  • "We ate twice at the Palace while in New Orleans. The food and service are very good. I had fish which was delicious and my husband raved about the chicken. We enjoyed eating outdoors because it was quieter on the street than inside the restaurant. It's a very busy, upscale place with no downside if noise doesn't bother you. We would go back and would just choose a quieter time of day."

  • "We enjoyed the food and when we told our waiter about it, he provided recipe cards! The duck was phenomenal and appropriately cooked. The crab cheesecake is as good as it sounds and I will have dreams about the brown sauce on the cheesecake!"

  • "The atmosphere was very cheerful and upbeat. Even though the restaurant was loud, the acoustics were such that conversing with my wife was easy. The food here was superb and the wait staff exceptional and very friendly. I will return here the next time I visit New Orleans!"

  • "The food was exceptional. We all enjoyed our meals. The duck, lamb chops and drum fish. The Bananas Foster was also great. They cooked it right in front of you. The women's bathroom was really dirty and everything was broken and there was a roll of toilet paper in one of the toilets. It was almost worse than a bathroom on Bourbon Street!"

  • "We have dined at the Palace Cafe many times when in town and it never fails to have great food. The service was not as good as we had remembered but the food makes up for it. We had a table by the window and it is great people watching since it was St. Patrick's Day."

  • "We went to PC for the Jazz Brunch and we had a really great time. The food is to die for and is certainly the best we had in New Orleans. There also was a small but good Jazz combo playing, not loud, just enough so you could still enjoy food and your conversation. Service was quick and courteous. Three different waiters asked if everything was fine but they were not overdoing it. If you have the chance to go there for the Jazz Brunch, DO IT!!!"
