Diner Reviews
  • "Our favorite beach side dining spot. Love the sushi rolls and the calamari cesar salad. Wait staff always friendly and helpful."

  • "Dinner was fantastic service was great views were the bomb! Couldn't ask for a better experience. Would highly reccomend!! You can't go wrong here."

  • "This is really the perfect beachfront restaurant--very good food and right on the water views of Cardiff State Beach. Highly recommend for lunch."

  • "We had a salad which included crab, shrimp and I can't remember what else. All was fresh and delicious. It was so enjoyable that we stayed a bit too long on the (screen-shaded) outdoor area and became "pinked"."

  • "We stopped here for drinks two years ago, liked it and decided to return for my birthday dinner. The food and wine list were even better than I remembered and we had a very special night with my husband and 16 year old vegetarian step daughter. The view is great, the service much improved and more professional (they were a little unsure what to do with us last time as we were only wanting drinks and were flustered that we didn't have a reservation). Lovely walk on the beach after dinner too."

  • "During our trip to La Jolla we drove up the coast twice and dined at Pacific Coast Grill both times. First we went for lunch. The view overlooking the ocean is amazing! The food was awesome. Their burgers and fries were to die for and the lobster and chicken enchiladas divine. The dinner menu was a bit more upscale. My husband had a wonderful fish dish and I had the lobster tacos. Delish!"

  • "We sat on the outdoor patio which was perfect. Felt like you were sitting on the sand. Excellent food and service was the best! Parking service very reasonable as choices are limited."

  • "The service was great and so was the food - and you can't beat the view"

  • "The views and the ambiuance do not get any better than this resturant. The appetizer's were wonderful. My wife does not eat fish and she ordered the turkey meatloaf. I followed suit as my appetizer was already fish based. The "meat loaf" was unedible. Tasted like cardboard with cereal thrown in to give it substance. Difficult to cut, dry as a box and impossible to swallow. Worse meal I have ever had from a resturant of this caliber, no any resturant. Ok, so it is a fish resturant but not all people eat fish and some are too stupid (me) to order fish at a fish resturant. Given all of this I would go back tomorrow and will indeed go back in the neaar future. Just don't order the meatloaf. Megan, you are an awesome server!"

  • "The location, service and food are excellent. But it's very pricey. I might go again for a special occasion, but not just for a night out. And there is no happy hour! What's with that?"
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "While we enjoyed the location and food, it was a bit over priced. We can have a comparable meal and pay about $5 less per plate at other restaurants in the area."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "Have been here several times. Location is incredible, right on the beach. Service is excellent. The food quality, however, has declined. Short rib sliders were overcome by cooked onions. Tomato salad was drowned in balsamic. Lobster sandwich was dry. Maybe the chef was having a bad day. Also, quite loud for an open air restaurant. Don't really know why. View still incredible."

  • "We have always loved the Pacific Coast Grill, but the new location on the beach makes this a must do in San Diego. On a clear evening, the sunset is spectacular. The lobster tacos and the bag of bones are still on the menu, along with the crab and lobster guacamole. We've tried most everything on the menu and have enjoyed it all."

  • "Beautiful view and great food. It has both inside and outside dining."

  • "Great for lunch. Outstanding view. Megan was an excellent server."

  • "All of our meals were superb. The local halibut - Fabulous. The sea bass - always excellent. The lobster bacon carbonara pasta was 1/2 & 1/2. The small lobster tails were like candy and perfectly done. but the larger tail was old and overcooked - tough. Each dish is well presented and the sides are always great. Nice wine list. Perfect martini. The wait staff are polite and attentive. The view is so wonderful - you are right on the beach. Perfect."

  • "My family went to PCG last night for dinner, they sat my husband and I and our 2 children along the window, with the sun beating down on my two small children, it was very hot. We have been going to PCG since its original location, and the lobster tacos were always outstanding. I ordered the lobster tacos last night, they are supposed to come with beans, mine did not, we asked our server if the entrée came with beans and she said it does I will get you a side, of beans, the tacos were flavorless, and blah. While we have no problem paying high end prices, we expect a high end meal, if you are going to compete with Market, Mille Fleur, Pamplemousse prices, then your food should be outstanding. It is clear you are paying for the view."

  • "The staff was very accommodating to our group of 10. We were set up in a private room, but asked if we could sit on the patio outside. They immediately set up a table for us outside without hesitation. The Dinner experience was wonderful. I would go back weekly if I lived closer"

  • "Some old friends of mine and I had our 30th High School reunion brunch here and it was the perfect spot. We all enjoyed our meals and didn't feel rushed. So, we were able to catch up and share photos. The Bloody Marys weren't too bad either. Would definitely recommend the restaurant to all."

  • "We dine somewhat regularly at PCG and have always enjoyed it even before they moved to Cardiff. This was our first time for brunch though and it was great just like lunch, dinner and late night drinks/apps. Only negative was we were next to the baby shower table so rather noisy. Great food, service, view, valet parking at the beach - what else is needed?"

  • "We are locals but this was our first dining experience here...and we will be back. We were celebrating a special occasion and were pleased that our requested seating was made available and we were promptly seated. Staff was friendly and courtesous, and our server (Rachel) provided excellent service throughout the meal. Beverages and meal get high marks, and the beach scenery is marvelous. Our dinner was topped off by a surprise dessert to celebrate our occasion. The tiny parking lot had me wondering, but the valet was quick and wait was minimal. All in all, a very pleasant dining experience."

  • "We had a reservation for lunch and showed up 10-15 minutes early. She said a table was emptying soon so, of course, we said we'd wait. While waiting for our reserved table, at least 2-3 tables of walk-ins were seated. In fact, they said our table was ready but someone else was being seated there. The manager finally said our table was ready (after waiting at least 15 minutes) and took us to a table that was off by itself in, basically, the parking lot. We said it was not acceptable. Finally, after 10 more minutes, we were finally seated. Our waitress was great but food only so-so. Experience was not a positive one."

  • "The best view and food in Southern California. The ahi with forbidden rice is to die for. The shrimp dumplings in the port wine sauce...Yum! Anyone taking the plate prior to us soaking up every drop of that port wine sauce will likely lose a finger. 8) The lobster tacos and the hot rock (filet mignon or ahi) also my favorites. The oysters are always tasty too! My cousin who was visiting from South Carolina is till talking about his delicious sea bass. Oh...and the sushi rolls. Always so fresh with unique combinations. Just love this place!"

  • "This was our intro to a couple visiting from New York. I asked for and got a ocean view table...waiter was attentive...only downside was a birthday party that children under 4 were a part of the evening. Late evening for their ages. Parents fault for not planning better for the hours as the poor kids were worn out with no place to go. That is not the restaurants' problem...but a heads up to better planning that not everyone goes out in the evening to deal with other persons tired children!"

  • "Last night of a 10 day visit for a friend from England - wanted to do it right and we sure did! Patio seating upstairs - be sure to ask for the "glass" to be right by the ocean and it was divine. Drinks i would say were a little pricey but food was wonderful and really overall for a high end place with the location it has quite reasonably priced. Dessert was so good i think im coming back just for that!"

  • "The food was delicious and well presented; service was attentive but not intrusive. Great for dinner with friends except we could barely hear each other and had to yell. It was easier to finish eating and go outside to talk."

  • "I requested a table at Pacific Coast Grill at 6:30 with a view for our anniversary on July 3rd. I had proposed at the restaurant previously at this location. We arrived and were taken past many open tables to the very end of the restaurant by the exit and were seated next to women drinking heavily and being very loud. I could not hear my wife even seated directly across from her. The waitress brought us what was clearly tap water. We asked if we could be moved. The waitress came back quickly and replied that there were 400 reservations and that they would not move us. She then told us that a we couldn't have a table outside because they were expecting a dog. We were treated worse than a dog at PCG so we took our business to Flemings again."

  • "The location is great, right on the beach. There are lots of tables with a great view and plenty of outdoor seating. I appreciated the variety of food on the menu. There were several items that added in a little of something different so it felt like we were trying something new that we couldn't get at other restaurants. Everything was delicious."

  • "A perfect spot directly on Cardiff Beach that not only has a wonderful view but very good food and martinis! The Surfer Roll is outstanding as well as the pear and beet salad."

  • "We came here for Sunday brunch and were treated with an amazing view and good food. We enjoyed the brioche french toast, the filet mignon breakfast burrito (amazing), and crab meat eggs benedict. The waiter was super friendly, patient and efficient. He recommended several of his favorite things, and didn't mind taking pictures of us with the ocean view. The valet parking at $4 isn't bad considering the beach front location. I will be back."

  • "My friend and I arrived 15 before time, at 8 PM on Sunday and the place was packed to the brim. However we were offered a table outside on veranda, closest to the water, right away. More positives - We had Petit Sirah wine and Halibut for each culminating with banana split - all food and wine was great. Huge negatives: It took the waitress 20 minutes to come back and ask if we want to drink. She never asked us if we want any bread or appetizers or food - she simply forgot about us - I complained 1 hour later and 20 minutes later we got hour halibut... So from this point of view - servicing stuff there is a sad story.... for $180 that I paid (including a tip, this time 10% only) I can find impeccable service and food somewhere else..."
