Pacific Coast Grill - CardiffGraduationWe have been to Pacific Coast Grill a couple of time including Mother's Day. This time it was for our twin boys middle school graduation. Our table was great, but the service was very slow on this visit. Our waters were empty and we needed to track down some to fill them up. Later, there seemed to be more help and thing improved. The food was excellent, the desert superb, and the service was very good as well. It did get more crowded and noisy inside, I think next time we'll opt for outside dining. We where a party of eight staff was outstanding, food was over the top delicious. If there was one issue it was one of the steaks where over cooked (Cowboy). Cocktails were well prepared, appetizers, entree and desert were a great value.
Think one of the greatest touches was the fact that the manager (Jeff) made a follow call to insure our dining experience met our expectations. Wow, it was amazing. From the specialty drinks to the apps right on through to the main course it was superb. We were not rushed at all, at times I felt a touch neglected actually but since we were there to enjoy ourselves I didn't mind. Our server was very nice and even came to the table to let us know that there was only one special left so he reserved it for us even though we weren't ready to order yet. He even brought out a special dessert for us. Even though the restaurant generally seats parties outside on a first come basis, they had the table all set up for our party in a wonderful "nook" on the outside downstairs patio. We were literally on the sand, with waves pounding not far from the restaurant. The staff fired up the heaters for the cool breeze. Food was fantastic. My "bag of bonz" (baby back ribs) was wonderful. Several members of the party ordered the special omlette with steak, which was great. Desserts, especially the apple pie and creme brûlée are fantastic. Service couldn't be better. Beautiful view, plenty of shade so you're not baking in the sun! Food was good, drinks were delicious. Service was top-notch. Our waiter was attentive without being overly so. Our food arrived quickly. We ordered the truffle fries for an appetizer- always delicious! I got the veggie burger, which was pretty tasty. My friend got the chicken quesadilla and really liked it. Our office admin recommended Pacific Coast Grill based on her years of experience and feedback from professionals. I wanted a place that was special but not over the top, just right for an important first date. Great choice. The food was incredible. Sometimes service or food quality suffer when the real estate and view is prime, that was not the case here. Everything was great. Highly recommended. Note this was a Wednesday night, I have heard weekends can be a little louder and waits a little longer. Whatever you call it, the seafood is great--fresh, superbly prepared and presented--and the ambience is outstanding. What's not to like about a dining room overlooking the beach with most tables affording a view of just another dramatic SoCal sunset?
We're not drinkers but the bar was hopping and the wine list looked pretty good. We started with a wonderfully creative sushi appetizer and a bottle of Pellegrino. I enjoyed a swordfish entree and my partner was happy with her mahi mahi. For dessert, espresso and a fantastic creme brulee with berries on top!
By the time we left the sun had set, the surfers had left and the flood lights were on, illuminating the crashing surf.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this placeMy brother was visiting from Scottsdale and I wanted him to dine right by the ocean. This was the perfect place to take him to. Everything about this place was great. We had to wait a while even though we had reservations, but the wait was worth it. We sat right by a window and enjoyed the beautiful scenery, and the food and service could not have been better.

I had the Mahi Mahi which was coconut and crab encrusted. But there was also a yellow treatment/spice/rub on the fish that tasted (to me) like curry. I am not a fan of curry, so I didn't enjoy the fish at all and wished I had just gotten it grilled. It essentially went to waste. Other dishes were superb, according to the others, especially the chips with guacamole/crab dip. Gorgeous view of the sunset, although there's a balcony upstairs, and when the sun starts going to the horizon, people line up on the balcony to take photos and watch, which means people inside the restaurant can't actualy see. Two others in our party has sea bass and said the same. One had short ribs and the other chili rubbed steak - all raved about their choices. Wine list is good. Ambiance is great, right on the beach. Plus, the service was beyond light speed on a very busy evening. It's a classy place with a gorgeous view, especially near sunset. It was our 43rd Anniversary too. Our table had the flowers setup on our table and they even threw in a free dessert to celebrate the event. It doesn't get any better than that. It is very relaxing to sit near the crashing waves, watch the surfers and people with dogs on the beach.
Oh, and the food's good too! We both had the sea bass smothered in cherry tomatoes on top of a small portion of mashed potatoes, and some sauteed spinach. yum
But OMG.... the best dessert! We had actually ordered butterscotch apple pie but the waiter goofed and brought us bread pudding. IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST DESSERTS I'VE EVER EATEN IN MY LIFE. I may have to go back just for that. Two huge pieces (one is enough for two but we ordered two portions and ate it all) smothered in caramel sauce. Christopher, our waiter did a great job, made good suggestions and topped it off with a little desert to round out the birthday celebration. BTW did i mention the view.... Awesome! Pricey but worth it! manager came by to check on us too, nice touch and even wished my MIL happy birthday too.
Looking forward to going back.
