A word from Ouisie's Table
Known by generations for her hospitality, proprietress Elouise Adams Jones, a.k.a. Ouisie, serves an eclectic collection of Southern foods with an excellent wine list to match. High ceilings and fans in the main dining room it evoke the ambiance of a Texas manor house. The adjacent dining porch overlooking the patio and garden, as well as Cooper’s Wine Bin, provide additional dining and entertaining areas. The daily fare encompasses traditional offerings like her well-loved pimento cheese, the shrimp and grits, and the popular Gulf Coast oysters to the favorite Tuesday special Ouisie’s award winning chicken fried steak with corn pudding. A fine plate of grilled Prime beef tenderloin or a brace of quail stuffed with super lump crab meat with Cognac glaze are good examples of the daily specials one might find on the blackboard.

  • "I've been going to Ouisie's for years. Every meal has been top shelf. I decided to try the famous chicken fried steak plate Friday evening. I was very disappointed in it. The CFS was a bit under cooked. The breading was not crunchy, it was cooked but too soft. Reminded me of KFC original recipe that seems fried but is kind of mushy. The flavor was good though. The greens seemed a little off like they had done something to them to make them less bitter. I like greens unadorned. The corn pudding had too much sugar for me. The black eyed peas were wonderful! Loved them! On a positive note, the Stilton salad was good as always. The chocolate creme brulee was out of this world good. I still love Ouisie's though."

  • "Was disappointed that we were seated in back corner next to a large table of business men who were very loud. It was my wifes birthday and I had asked for a special table when I made the reservation. The restuarant was only about one third full so we could have been seated at a better table."

  • "First, I wish that I remembered our waiter's name. He was terrific. Our group was composed of 6 adults and 3 very small children. Many waiters would have written us off as a low-tip, high-mess kinda table--not this guy. He was charming with the kids and attentive to the adults. The food was solid. Nothing knocked my socks off--more like tried and true favorites. But it's a good choice for your less adventurous eaters."

  • "Waiter forgot my Bloody Mary at brunch, had to remind him. Portions are tiny - my crab cake benedict was only half the size of what is should be. Only one half of muffin and one egg was used; pretty pitiful. My food was consumed in only a few bites and I was still hungry - ripoff for 18 dollars."

  • "We were originally seated near the doors to a private room. After two minutes of people coming in and out, the manager came by to offer us a different table, which we gladly accepted. Service was great. The way the manager was aware of our seating concern was great. Food I thought was good - not great. They did not have our open table reservation in their system, even though I had a confirmation email. Hopefully we were the only ones impacted."

  • "We had an extraordinary experience at Ouisie's Table. Great service, wonderful food (the seafood crepes were decadent!) and wine, and incredible desserts. Most restaurants nowadays are loud and booming with music and you can't talk to your dinner companions - not so at Ouisie's! It was so nice to have a quiet and beautiful atmosphere to fully enjoy the food and company. We'll return again any day!"

  • "We had a wonderful dinner celebrating my wife's birthday at Ousie's Table. It is our favorite restaurant in the Galleria/River Oaks area. There was private event being held in the main dining room. We were seated in the "sun" room overlooking the outdoor dining area at a table with cushioned bench seating. The service was very good and we were greeted by and chatted with the restaurant manager. The appetizers, salad, entrees and dessert as well as the cocktails and wine were excellent. I recommend this restaurant and bring friends who are not often in the city to Ousie's Table. It can be quite busy but advance reservations are easily made with OpenTable or by phone. The staff does their best to accommodate you."

  • "I took my mom to Ouisies for her birthday on Saturday. This was a first time visit for both of us. Our water glasses were never empty, and service was pretty good. We apparently had two waiters, though this was never clearly defined. And neither of them told us their name. It was very loud in the room we were in and there was a wedding reception going on. I was a little dissapointed in the overall experience, but the food was pretty good. I would definitely go back and give a second try."

  • "Been twice in last two weeks and had identical experiences: food was wonderful, room is beautiful, but service was awful. Each time--and with different waiters--we waited and waited (over half an hour) after ordering for the salad/appetizer to appear and again for the main course, with the waiter nowhere to be found. Each time the waiter pushed a wine "special" in a tone trying to shame you into buying a pricey bottle. We chalked one time up to bad luck but noted it privately through this website; after receiving an apology assuring us "we have made impacting changes" the same thing happened. Also reported us to OpenTable as no-shows. Ouisie's has wonderful food and delightful ambience--but you can get that elsewhere with good service too."

  • "For a night that wasn't busy, it seemed like the wait staff forgot about us. I believe that they lost our order because it was almost 40 minutes between finishing our salad to when our entrees arrived. My steak was still "mooing" when I had ordered it medium. Because the waiter disappeared after serving, the meal went uneaten. When we ordered dessert, the six year old child at the table ordered chocolate cake directly with the waiter. The menu and the waiter failed to mention that the cake was soaked in liquor. When it was served, we happened to notice the smell before a bite was taken. Thank goodness we noticed. We were horrified that they were willing to serve this to a child. We won't be making a second trip."

  • "Probably the worst service I've ever had. Even the manager was unprofessional and talking badly about out table so there was nobody to complain to at the time. The waiter was incredibly rude and dismissive and we had 11 people in our group- all of which are young professionals that like nice meals and are typically over achiever tippers. His loss. The food was overpriced and far below greatness. It was a terrible dining experience and I will never ever ever return. Ever. Not even sure how they are still in business. "

  • "Terrible anniversary celebration--will never go back. Seated next to the piano and saxophone, although there were plenty of other tables available. Luckily, they didn't arrive until near the end of the meal after we were told there would be no piano that night. They were there long enough to give me a headache. Apparently if you are not attending prom or have rented the space for an event, they can care less about your experience. We have eaten at Ouisies before, and I was not impressed with the changes on the menu. I had scallops that were mediocre at most. The only good thing was the service. The waiter we had was excellent. There are many restaurants in Houston with better food and ambience, so don't waste your money here."

  • "We have eaten at Ouisie's many times over the years and this was the first disappointing experience. The wine was great and the salad was great, both being served promptly. There was a long delay in bringing out the main courses and two soft shell crab main courses had to be substituted and in the rush the fish dishes were undercooked."

Love the food, creative, cutting edge w/ol time southern favorites.Wine list is varied, last two visits out of at least one of our choices. If you list it, better have it.Poor experience on entry. Nobody greeted us, peaked around corner to see manager and the hostess in heated discussion.Never looked up to acknowledge us. Shameful management does not walk the walk, instill prompt, aware and anticipated service. Long delay in server acknowledging us,sat at table 5 minutes before coming over, handed us a wine list and walked away,Had to ask busboy for water and bread. Another 5-7 minutes before being given food menus.Will come back but with apprehension. "

We were seated immediately, and they had called weeks in advance to confirm and they even offered flowers for $20/arrangement. What a special touch! The service was a little slow, but they were certainly busy, so it was understandable. I highly recommend this place, easy for everyone to find something they enjoy."

  • "The attentive and charming waiter was the best part of the dining experience. I really wanted to like this place but the experience calls for me to refrain from coming back. The hostess was overwhelmed and made small talk on the phone with an assumed diner trying to alter or make reservations as the line of guests waiting to be seated grew and crowded the front room. She wasn't even aware of who came first and started seating people who had just arrived and ignored my party that had been standing for some time waiting for her to finish her conversation. The food was unfortunately not anything to write home about either. I don't mind paying for a quality experience and unfortunately this was not it. "

  • "I reserved a place for Mother's Day weekend (Saturday) at Ouisie's Table. The tables in the main dining area were so crowded it was awkward and my chair was hit every time a waiter would pass. And for someone to be seated, I had to get up and move clear to the other side of our table, dragging my purse and chair to allow others to reach their tables. We ordered bottomless belinis, but unfortunately the wait staff was so overwhelmed that these got refilled once as we were trying to leave. Also, they are chincy with providing butter and the waiters again are so overwhelmed that they scurry off before everyone could request a coffee. Making money in a restaurant is important, but this made for a dining experience I will not repeat."
