A word from Ouisie's Table
Known by generations for her hospitality, proprietress Elouise Adams Jones, a.k.a. Ouisie, serves an eclectic collection of Southern foods with an excellent wine list to match. High ceilings and fans in the main dining room it evoke the ambiance of a Texas manor house. The adjacent dining porch overlooking the patio and garden, as well as Cooper’s Wine Bin, provide additional dining and entertaining areas. The daily fare encompasses traditional offerings like her well-loved pimento cheese, the shrimp and grits, and the popular Gulf Coast oysters to the favorite Tuesday special Ouisie’s award winning chicken fried steak with corn pudding. A fine plate of grilled Prime beef tenderloin or a brace of quail stuffed with super lump crab meat with Cognac glaze are good examples of the daily specials one might find on the blackboard.

  • "Sunday night early dinner was quiet and the service attentive and friendly. Dover sole was very good, although portion seemed slightly small. Sides were generous. Brandied oysters were very good. Wine specials very reasonable. Because fine dining seems to have become increasingly expensive for average food with smaller portions, we were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed Sunday dinner at Ousies. We have been to Ouises at least a dozen or more times over the years and it remains fairly consisent in providing good food and service for the price."

Also, they were so crowded I got bumped 6 or 7 times from behind even though I had my chair pushed in as far as it would go. The waiter had to reach in front of me to serve my friend it was so tight. I had a much better experience during lunch on a Wednesday."

  • "I made a reservation for our Anniversary and when we got there we had to wait 5 minutes for the host to come and seat us. Then they tried to seat us in the middle of the restaurant next to a large group of people when there were a lot of open tables. We requested another table and had to wait another 5 minutes for them to clear it. They deflated my wife's expectation by then. The Crab Tower appetizer was good but our entrees were not good at all. My wife had the seafood crepe, which needed some seasoning and had to much cheese on top of the crepe. I had the snapper with oysters and it tasted like they used a boot to season it. I only ate half of my plate and my wife kept asking to go get a burger when we leave the restaurant."

  • "The waitstaff were not personable and rather stuffy and Inattentive. Served butter dishes by sliding them across the table. Tossed breads onto plates. Food came out in a timely fashion but the personalities of the waitstaff is what turned me off. Only gave this an overall rating of 3 stars due to the Service."

  • "I wanted a 'different' and varied menu, as we were entertaining friends from Switzerland. Bingo! Ouisie's fit the bill. Out waiter was knowledgeable and very pleasant, making suggestions and helping with the our decision when a couple of us just couldn't decide. The Passion Tea was very refreshing and oyster appetizer Yummy! The service was wonderful without being made to feel rushed!! I'll definitely return!!"

  • "We've been to Ouisie's several times over the past 7 years and have always enjoyed the entire experience. This time was no different overall, but it also seemed that the food was just a bit less excellently prepared this time, with my snapper a little overcooked and the consistency of my partner's shrimp and grits off a little from past visits. Our waiter was awesome but also seemed a little overtaxed in terms of the number of tables he was trying to cover simultaneously. But all in all it was still a very enjoyable evening, and the peach cobbler dessert was superb."

There was a private party in the main dining room. Patrons should be advised of that. We would have chosen another restaurant that night. Normally am a fan of Ouisies. Not that night."

  • "I'm a regular at Ouisie's and I always love the cornbread and biscuit to start with. My date ordered excellent white fish, probably the best fish I've ever had. I ordered the buffalo tenderloin, which I've had before and it was delicious, but this time it wasn't quite as good. The lobster mashed potatoes it came with were delicious. Overall, Ouisie's is a great place to celebrate, and the food is almost always excellent."

  • "We have been dining at Elouise's establishments since she first opened on sunset many years ago. The building the restaurant is in now is a nice place to dine, and the menu has evolved, keeping many of the old favorites while adding up to date choices including plenty of gluten-free and fish dishes. My scallops were excellent and my husband's tuna was also great. Both of our salads were delicious as well. It is a great place to celebrate a special occasion or simply enjoy a good meal. They also do a great job with special group meals and celebrations."

  • "I decided to try out Ouisie's after driving by on San Felipe multiple times and just thinking how quaint it looked. I reserved a table on open table for 7:15 pm. We arrived right at about 7:15 and valet parked for a very reasonable $3 per car. We were immediately taken to our table and got to enjoy the piano and bass being played - which was a nice surprise. I ordered the Parmesan crusted trout with Asparagus, and my friend got the scallops. I paired my meal with a glass of Malbec which was an excellent selection and very decently priced at $8 a glass. Our service was excellent, the food was delectable, and the overall ambiance was outstanding."

  • "I've been going to Ouisie's for years. Every meal has been top shelf. I decided to try the famous chicken fried steak plate Friday evening. I was very disappointed in it. The CFS was a bit under cooked. The breading was not crunchy, it was cooked but too soft. Reminded me of KFC original recipe that seems fried but is kind of mushy. The flavor was good though. The greens seemed a little off like they had done something to them to make them less bitter. I like greens unadorned. The corn pudding had too much sugar for me. The black eyed peas were wonderful! Loved them! On a positive note, the Stilton salad was good as always. The chocolate creme brulee was out of this world good. I still love Ouisie's though."

Only one half of muffin and one egg was used; pretty pitiful. My food was consumed in only a few bites and I was still hungry - ripoff for 18 dollars."

  • "First, I wish that I remembered our waiter's name. He was terrific. Our group was composed of 6 adults and 3 very small children. Many waiters would have written us off as a low-tip, high-mess kinda table--not this guy. He was charming with the kids and attentive to the adults. The food was solid. Nothing knocked my socks off--more like tried and true favorites. But it's a good choice for your less adventurous eaters."

  • "We were originally seated near the doors to a private room. After two minutes of people coming in and out, the manager came by to offer us a different table, which we gladly accepted. Service was great. The way the manager was aware of our seating concern was great. Food I thought was good - not great. They did not have our open table reservation in their system, even though I had a confirmation email. Hopefully we were the only ones impacted."

Most restaurants nowadays are loud and booming with music and you can't talk to your dinner companions - not so at Ouisie's! It was so nice to have a quiet and beautiful atmosphere to fully enjoy the food and company. We'll return again any day!"

  • "I took my mom to Ouisies for her birthday on Saturday. This was a first time visit for both of us. Our water glasses were never empty, and service was pretty good. We apparently had two waiters, though this was never clearly defined. And neither of them told us their name. It was very loud in the room we were in and there was a wedding reception going on. I was a little dissapointed in the overall experience, but the food was pretty good. I would definitely go back and give a second try."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner celebrating my wife's birthday at Ousie's Table. It is our favorite restaurant in the Galleria/River Oaks area. There was private event being held in the main dining room. We were seated in the "sun" room overlooking the outdoor dining area at a table with cushioned bench seating. The service was very good and we were greeted by and chatted with the restaurant manager. The appetizers, salad, entrees and dessert as well as the cocktails and wine were excellent. I recommend this restaurant and bring friends who are not often in the city to Ousie's Table. It can be quite busy but advance reservations are easily made with OpenTable or by phone. The staff does their best to accommodate you."

  • "Been twice in last two weeks and had identical experiences: food was wonderful, room is beautiful, but service was awful. Each time--and with different waiters--we waited and waited (over half an hour) after ordering for the salad/appetizer to appear and again for the main course, with the waiter nowhere to be found. Each time the waiter pushed a wine "special" in a tone trying to shame you into buying a pricey bottle. We chalked one time up to bad luck but noted it privately through this website; after receiving an apology assuring us "we have made impacting changes" the same thing happened. Also reported us to OpenTable as no-shows. Ouisie's has wonderful food and delightful ambience--but you can get that elsewhere with good service too."

  • "Probably the worst service I've ever had. Even the manager was unprofessional and talking badly about out table so there was nobody to complain to at the time. The waiter was incredibly rude and dismissive and we had 11 people in our group- all of which are young professionals that like nice meals and are typically over achiever tippers. His loss. The food was overpriced and far below greatness. It was a terrible dining experience and I will never ever ever return. Ever. Not even sure how they are still in business. "
