  • "Recently opened, we were referred here by friends. Well worth the visit. Wonderful Italian food, terrific service, very good wine list, and prices very reasonable. Pleasant location though no real view. Great relaxing meal. Recommend highly."

  • "With Most maui restaurants you are paying for Maui and lackluster food. The food here was equisite. We had the superfood salad and beet misto to start which had very unique flavours and were substantially sized, the gnocchi and tagliatelle nailed the flavours described. Wine was great and very fair price. If we were locals this would be a regular spot, see you next time we visit maui. "

  • "We've eaten at Matteo's a few times since their re-birth in the Wailea Center above the Wailea Tennis Courts and Grand Champions condos. The food is delicious and the variety is wonderfully satisfying - we particularly like the gariglia (grilled veg with pesto), the lamb papardelle and the pumpkin ravioli. There are plenty of gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan and dairy free options for those with eating restrictions. They aren't joking about a wonderful wine-by-the-glass menu either. In the past we've sat inside but this time we sat outside on the lanai. One minor disadvantage is that when it gets dark, you may be subject to headlights in the eyes. The staff is friendly and conscientious, and the overall experience is very enjoyable."

  • "We liked this so much we went back again during the same week. We were soooo tired of overpriced and bland hotel food. This gem is family run, authentic Italian food. Very good quality. You could walk here from the grand wailea."

  • "Although we did not mention it to our server - we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary the night we dined at your restaurant. So it felt just right - as the restaurant was recommended by my brother and I let him know it was the perfect choice. A warm & inviting atmosphere with lovely food ."

  • "Matteo has done a fine job with his new restaurant. I could eat the kale salad every day. Also the other appetizers. Can't wait to go back. The wine list is outstanding"

  • "Restaurant was recommended by local friends and the food did not disappoint. We ordered calamari appetizer, Cesar salad, soup, black ink fettuccine with shellfish and the Isola catch of the day on risotto cake... All excellent and well prepared. Wine list is also very nice. Our waiter was nice and personable, 1st course arrived in reasonable time, then the service snafu started. We waited a very very long time for our entrees (over 1hr). At one point the hostess came over to let us know there had been an issue with timing, brought us bread and let us know dessert would be on them. Nice gesture and do appreciate when issues are acknowledged. Anyway, food was excellent and I like to believe that the service issue was an isolated incident."

  • "This is the place to try those wonderful Italian wines that you either can't find or can't afford to buy by the bottle. Matteo's has California wines too, but if you're looking for upscale Italian food and wine in a casual atmosphere, this is it."

  • "We were confused when we saw Matteo's was still advertised but didn't know where it went! we'll we found it in the Wailea town. Centre and it was great. First our waitress was Dove and she was a fantastic server, very lively, attentive and fun. She made our night. The food was better than ever! We will be back again and again with more friends! thank you for a great night. Only comment you need fans in the restaurant, people were too warm inside."

  • "15 minutes to order drinks, 30 minutes to get them. Very rude waiter brought food. Charged 18% gratuity on bill and then tried to charge again on credit card. Manager argumentative when informed of problems. We will not go back."

  • "The best part of this restaurant was the authenticity of the food and service. In both respects, this was like eating in a trattoria in Tuscany. The home-made pastas were perfectly made and cooked, the sauces were full of flavor without being overdone, and the people were incredibly friendly, open and honest (in that uniquely Italian sort of sales-ey, yet member-of-the-family sort of way). Also, the prices were very reasonable for Wailea, and the wine-by-the-glass prices were very fair. I would go here again in a second."

  • "The wine by the glass is outstanding! Get to try wines before committing to a bottle. Food was good but the reason why it was such a disappointing was the service. Felt like a number. I know Maui is full of tourists but it is such an intimate setting and then to be rushed in and out does is unfortunate. Waiter had no interest in making a connection, was really flaky."

  • "I have dined at Matteo's at least 5 times since they opened. The food and service was good from the beginning however they have tweaked their menu offering a very good selection and the food has improved. The small pizzas are excellent (really good crust), ravioli, bolognese, bruschetta, kale salad, all excellent. The only issue I encountered is that the restaurant is very warm to the point of being uncomfortable, They need to blast their AC or repair it if it is out of service. You can't enjoy your meal having to fan yourself while eating and trying to have a conversation with friends."

  • "I recommend this highly. We had a lovely meal of good Italian cooking combined with local foods. The prices are more reasonable than many on Maui and the food and ambience were great. It has only been open a few months but everything seems to work very smoothly. We will recommend it and return next time we are here."

  • "I have dined at Matteo's Osteria a number of times now. Consistently good food, good service and a phenomenal number of wines by the glass, all kept fresh in a huge cruvinet system. We spend a lot of time in Italy every year. This is the closest to dining in Italy that I have found here. Even better than some of the big names on the mainland."

  • "Prior reviews of this restaurant are inaccurate. Service at this restaurant was quite good. Our server was Dana who was quite attentive, accomodating and very good to our young kids. Food was excellent, particularly the home made pasta dishes. Food stands above the other Italian restaurants in Wailea area. I come to Maui annually and will make sure to come here every time."

  • "We returned to Matteo's because our first experience was so perfect. On our second visit the portions were significantly smaller; my husband's fish special was flavorless. Will we try Matteo's next year on our return trip? Maybe... It was our last night in Maui and we were disappointed"

  • "Restricted menu for lunch . Food was OK but not memorable . Many other places can do as well. Our waiter was excellent and was the high light !"
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "I wasn't impressed with Matteo's at all. The food was only marginal and not a big selection on the menu to choose from. I will not be going back. I had the fish and it was dry and the mashed potatoes were very runny. The artichoke hearts were hard and not cooked all the way through."

  • "A hostess, who doesn't even make eye contact to acknowledge you for 10 minutes upon arrival,is not good. Once seated, our competent waiter vanished for15 minutes. After orders were placed, things evened out a bit. While the waiter was presenting our wine selection, a server came w/ food, talking over the waiter to deposit the food. We were all miffed by this. A young, inexperienced bus boy was overly zealous, clearing dishes too soon more than once. While the staff is earnest, well-intended (excepting the hostess who was self absorbed and the server who was just grumpy), the absence of training made the dining experience mediocre at best. Because of the good food, we may give them one more try hoping they've worked out these kinks."

  • "Matteo's is back on Maui with some wonderful additions to their menu. The old pizza restaurant is more upscale and they have added some new entrees & appetizers. The service remains attentive & the food is great."

  • "The food and service was excellent. Our waiter knew the menu and made excellent suggestions with matching wine. Overall our experience was a wonderful evening. I highly recommend Matteo's to anyone that wants the real deal!"

  • "So, everything was great, except we waited 45 minutes between our salad and main course. Everyone very apologetic. Next time I would order carryouts."

  • "Love the look and feel of this place. Very creative dishes I would love to give a higher rating but the lasagna "soup" just did to cut it. Other dishes like the stuffed Mahi Mahi was outstanding. Look forward to going back."

  • "A friend and I dined at Matteo's a couple of days ago. We had an appetizer, drinks, and a nice meal. Our waiter was very attentive and service was efficient. However, the manager or perhaps owner visited every table except ours to see how things were. She talked to customers beside us, around us, behind us, and continually avoided us. Not sure why - perhaps because there was not a male person in our party. Left with a bad feeling. Perhaps she should consider all people when asking how your dining experience was!"

  • "Food was excellent. Service was very poor. Extremely slow and inattentive. Many mistakes with both the wine that was ordered and the food. Wait staff needs better training in both customer service and plate clearing and delivery. Manager did her best to listen and she did compensate us. That was greatly appreciated."

  • "A stylish addition to the Wailea dining scene. Matteo's Osteria is a few notches above the former Matteo's pizza and pasta family-oriented, casual dining scene but still maintains the friendly, neighborhood atmosphere. Both hot and cold appetizers, pasta (the ravioli!!) proteins and pizza, plus daily specials and an extensive wine list fill the menu. The lunch menu is an abbreviated version of dinner but Matteo is open to requests for off-menu items. Inside (can be noisy), outside dining or seated in the cozy bar offer options for every dining mood."

  • "Wailea is known for its world class hotels, beaches and great restaurants. This distinction is accurate, and with that comes world class priced entrees in its restaurants, but not at Matteo. No, it's not on the beach, it's locale in a caldesac, but the dining room is very tasteful, and dining lanai equally pleasant. The real attraction is the freshly made pasta, large salads, and special entrees. The pizzas are also great as a shared app, or a single entree. Top that all off with the islands largest by the glass wine selection, and some world class bottle selections, all fairly priced and you have the dining value experience unmatched in this part of Maui. I have made this a weekly occurrence. The owner and staff are genuinely friendly."

  • "Please don't forget that it's the customer who keeps your doors open. It should be your privilege to entertain your customer and make them excited for a return visit. I realize you are a destination island restaurant, but there are many, many from which to choose. Simple requests should be honored and were not. Our meal (and the meals of the 4 tables around us) was ruined by a very very very loud guest whose booming voice drowned out our attempts at conversation. Even after asking both our waiter and the manager to politely ask the man to lower his voice, our request was not honored. Very sad one loud guest ruined the dining experience for 12 other guests...and management did nothing!"

  • "We had a nice supper at Matteo's. The Service was great and the Food OMG. We will definitely come back as the food was just super. Next time we will bring our own wine as the corkage plus our wine cost is less than the wine cost at the restaurant."

  • "We were so excited to try this restaurant after reading good reviews. We went for one of the early seatings on Valentines day. They were already out of one of the 2 vegetarian entree options so my husband was left having to order the ravioli. It came out looking like a light appetizer. He said it was good but not great. My fish was good and the risotto was amazing. So overall, I liked my meal okay but he didn't care for his much and left starving. We have to save up for a meal like this so we were disappointed. If you have lots to spend on meals and like fine dining you might like it more than us. We'd rather go somewhere a little more down to earth and probably won't go to Matteo's again."

  • "Great food and friendly service. Very busy so pretty loud but food made it worth it. Superfood salad was great and special of the night - lasagna - was the best we've found on Maui. Also recommend the pumpkin ravioli! Happy to have Matteo back on island!"

  • "The selection on the food menu was great. Lots of choices and descriptions. The Gnocchi was amazing! Wine list was good too! We had really bad service but It's a new restaurant... They may just need some time to get it together! I would go back for the food anyway! :)"

  • ""Stuck" in Wailea, without a car, we found this restaurant on TripAdvisor and decided to give it a try. VERY good food and fun waitstaff. I would say the downfall is the 'location' . . .kind of in a strip center and the outdoor patio overlooks the parking lot."
