  • "We arrived and, despite having a reservation, were left standing at reception for 10 minutes. Awkward. We ordered steaks and lamb for entrees and both were excellent. Soups and salads, as well as mixed drinks, were also very good. Music was surprisingly loud. Overall experience was uneven; for the cost, we expected better."

  • "My husband and I are very very critical of restaurants, service, and quality of food. Maestro's in Costa Mesa should get 11's out of 5's on ALL fronts. The waiter was very professional, every one of our needs were met with grace, the food was beyond good, probably the best food we have ever been served. Beginning with the largest plate of carpaccio ever as an appetizer to their special scallop appetizer cooked in a garlic butter sauce that left you wanting to lick the plate (except for the heavenly garlic bread strips). I had the filet mignon which was done to perfection, zero waste and my husband had the porterhouse steak which he devoured. The ambience was stately, private and romantic. Eating here is a night on the town! Fantastic!"

  • "The Costa Mesa location was he location chosen for an anniversary dinner. We had dined at another Mastro's Steakhouse but found the Costa Mesa location far more enjoyable. Arriving a bit early, we waited in the bar until our table was ready - however the hostess did offer to seat us early at a different table. The bar atmosphere was quite relaxing and the drinks and service were both great! Dinner - outstanding. You can't go wrong with any of the steaks. The Chilean Sea Bass and the Giant Prawns both delicious. Save room for the Warm Butter Cake - fantastic!"

  • "We've dined here several times, and it is always an excellent experience. The food is divine and the service impeccable. I highly recommend the lobster mashed potatoes as your side dish. I could have just that for dinner, but the warm spinach salad and petite filet are the perfect meal for me. Their key lime pie was also heavenly, but it is big, so we shared it."

  • "Food was up to the usual expected standard but there were a few minor issues. We ate around 5:45 on a Saturday and there were issues throughout with the light control, they had the blinds down when we walked in, then it was so dark we had to use cell phones to read the menu. The food was outstanding, the Sea Bass is the best I have had, the signature butter cake is great. Service was good but also had a few issues, we did not get bread until they brought the appetizers, there were only three of us and the spare place was left set and just pushed to the side to fit our table appetizers on rather than taken away. Little things like this that you expect from a cheaper restaurant but not a restaurant that is aimed at the top of the market."

  • "Always enjoy Mastro's. Been there a number of times generally for special occasions. Service was what you would expect from a fine restaurant. Food was excellent, as usual. Only hiccup was one of our steaks was not cooked as requested. We both ordered the bone in filet both to be cooked medium rare +. One was delivered exactly as ordered the other was very close to rare. They apologized and cooked it further. The problem is I was half done with my meal by the time the other steak was returned. The steaks were about the same thickness so I am not sure why the big difference in done ness."

  • "I am a bit disappointed at Mastro. For a restaurant that specialize in steak, I only remember their sides and dessert. The environment is too dark. Maybe that is the theme the owner is going for, but we can barely see the food clearly. I give a 4 star for the sides and dessert, and a 3 star for their steak. The service is good and it's not too noisy."

  • "After a less than great experience during my first visit last year, I gave Mastro's a second chance. I think the main difference was last year's visit was on a Friday, while my most recent visit was on a Tuesday. During my Friday visit, my reservation time was ignored, and we were seated 40 minutes late, the crowd noise and music spilling out from the lounge was overwhelming, and the service was slow. During my Tuesday visit, it was the exact opposite. We were seated promptly upon arrival five minutes before our reservation time, I could actually converse in a normal voice and hear my dinner companion, and the service was excellent. The food was exceptional on both visits, but in the future I'll stick with going in on slower nights."

  • "We have been to many Mastro's and had amazing meals. We were at the Mastro's in Desert Springs on Friday and had a perfect evening. Tonight food and service were disappointing. We drove from San Diego and spent the night just to have dinner at Mastro's . Have to say this was te only disappointing meal we have had at any Mastro's."

  • "Overall the food, service and wine were good but I did not feel that it meet the high expectations we had nor was it worth the prices. Bread - very salty. The scallops appetizer was very good, I would recommend. Spicy Mambo Salad - just okay. Lobster mashed potatoes - I really enjoyed the lobster part but the mashed potatoes were just okay. The bacon mac and cheese was just plain heavy and not great. Brussels Sprouts were good but not that creative and anything soaked in that much butter should taste good. We got the bone-in filet which was good and cooked nicely but had some gristle parts. The Chilean Seabass was excellent. Overall I had much higher expectations for the price and reputation. I prefer Ruth Chris."

  • "This was my first time at Mastros. The porter house steak could be cut with a fork. It was the BEST steak I have ever had in my life. The service was like no other. Every server was super nice and very helpful, especially for first timers. The wine list was great and moderately priced."

  • "Service and food were both excellent. We were greeted and seated promptly by the hosts. Our main server, Nikolai, greeted us and immediately took our drink orders which were very generous. The tuna tartare had an eclectic flavor and was very appealing to the taste buds. The lobster bisque had so much lobster I thought this could have been a main dish. I had the prime rib which was cooked to my liking and had sides of lobster mash potatoes and mushroom. Our wine glasses were kept filled by our server and was too stuffed to eat dessert but it was tempting based on how well everything was for the evening."

  • "We have dined at Mastro's numerous times. It seems like our very first visit was the best. Since then we have been disappointed. I don't believe we will be back. We paid over $600 for a party of 3. I just think there are better options out there for the money. The steaks were flavorful however very tough to cut. Not appealing to us to have to saw through a steak. The sides were ok, nothing special. Salads were disappointing. Service was great and the ambience was ok."

  • "We arrived 5 min before our reservations that night. There was a sea of people in the lobby and line out the door to even confirm our reservation. I had to expect this kind of chaos since it was Valentine's Day. I figured they might have overbooked but we were told to wait in the lobby or bar and we would be seated shortly. We went to the bar and ordered our drinks and before we were handed our drinks we were escorted to our table and our drinks were brought over. NICE! Totally unexpected and we were taken to our table in a more private and quiet part of the restaurant. Our waiter from Romania was an excellent server. He made some wonderful suggestions and was prompt with drink, food, and dessert. The food was exceptional. Very pleased"

  • "Excellent food. The single candle at the table made reading the menu difficult (had to use my phone flashlight) so it was very dark. I felt the music was a little overpowering. The pianist alone would have been perfect, without the rock and roll competing. I felt the prices were to be expected from a restaurant that is intent to seeing to you every need and question....a very attentive staff! Most delicious lobster mashed potatoes, roasted sprouts, and asparagus. The bone-in rib eye (chef's cut), at the suggestion of our waiter, was more than I needed (I originally ordered a smaller cut). We visited Mastro's as a birthday dinner, and overall it was a treat to be so pampered and to enjoy such excellently-prepared food."

  • "Each time I dine here the ratio of "expense account" diners to non is exponentially increasing, this is having an effect on the quality of some portions of the menu. Seafood tower, normally fresh and sumptuous was very average - ice cold, it had been sitting for a while. The wine order, three attempts before the waiter offered an available wine. I understand their in transition but at $200 a head he should have been better. The main course steaks were superb as always, only one of us got the right fish dish we ordered.. the ambiance of the place is still great but it can only cover the slipping quality of food and service for so long. Corporate impression based dining - good, personal dining - much better options available"

  • "My husband and I went for dessert and drinks pretty late to celebrate our first anniversary. Our server, Patrick, welcomed us with a warm greeting. We apologized for coming in so late and he made us feel at ease. I told him that we're here for the Warm Buttercake (so sinfully delicious!), a mojito for my husband and a Cosmo for myself. Patrick struck up a conversation with us and I could not stoplaughing at his oh-too-hilarious-to-be-true story! My husband and I were laughing so much it was painful! I even had tears streaming down my face! Patrick is an outstanding server! We will definitely ask for him again!"

  • "Our server was not so excellent. She was more interested in telling us about the most expensive items on the menu... Go figure! When food the arrived, she proceeded to serve us the side dish- Brussel Sprouts, not intentional she missed the plate of one our guests and left it there. We had to ask her to clean it up..it also came with attitude. The server was short on attention but quick to pick up the signed copy of the bill before we left the table. I travel quite a bit for work and at times food is food but service is everything. In short, I would think twice about going back because of poor service!!!!"

  • "Overall, 3 stars, the ribeye was 1/3 fat, 1/3 bone and 1/3 meat but with great flavor, Porterhouse was perfect, creamed corn was more cream than corn, stuffed potato was amazing, and the grilled asparagus was perfect. So 1/2 was perfect, half was just okay. My expectations were high since we dined at the Newport Beach location last year and it was perfect. The restaurant was so dark that we had to load in the flash light app while there to look at our bill. It was pretty funny since we saw many folks doing the same. The service was excellent thanks to Josh and his team."

The appetizers are superb (try the sauteed jumbo shrimp and/or the ahi tostadas),the salads are great (try the spicy mambo salad and/or the sliced beefsteak tomatoes and onions), the steaks magnificent (the rib eye is the best), and don't forget the fabulous butter cake for dessert."

Food was good and service was great. Very expensive and won't be back except for special occasions now and then. Morton's was better."

  • "I love coming here, from the service you get when you walk in to the meal itself- quite frankly now my favorite steakhouse. Was there for our anniversary with my gf, as soon as we walked in we were greeted by all the employees at the front. We got there a bit early and decided to go to the bar/lounge for a drink while we waited for our table, turns out they have a piano player and singer there which was nice (it was a Friday evening). Once seated at our table the waiter was very personable (as is all staff we dealt with that evening), and the meal was EXCELLENT! I got the bone in filet and it was cooked to perfection (rare), we also got the asparagus and lobster mac and cheese- that my friends was simply AMAZING. Recommend to all :)"

  • "The service was very good. The noise level was very high, I could not hear the person across from me at my table. I was disappointed in the food. The steak was very bland for the price. The side dishes were nothing spectacular for the price. Chairs were very comfortable. Ambience was nice, good for bringing a date. I thought the quality of food did not warrant the prices charged."
