  • "First of all, amazing service. 5 stars to the wait staff. Food was mediocre. For example, I ordered a steak that had a twice baked truffled potato with bacon and Gouda cheese and cream fresh. Sounds amazing, right? I had the stek cooked "as the chef recommends". The steak wasn't very good and the potato was so meh that I didn't finish! A truffled, twice baked potato! Boring! I was shocked! How does anyone ruin that! This place seems to be all hype and no substance. I was very disappointed. Drinks were uninspired also. I have no idea why Zagats have this place a 27 for food. My wife wasn't very fond of her dinner either. We left without dessert, afraid they would ruin that too."

  • "We were very impressed by this special spot. Service was attentive, not obtrusive. The blue cheese soufflé was excellent, as was the tomato soup. Our order was a bit delayed, and they brought a complimentary salad of avocado and grapefruit which was also very good. We had the duo of short rib and tri tip which was excellent. We also had the filet which was outstanding. No room for dessert, but the cappuccino was creamy, smokey and delicious! Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "For 2-3 days every August we stay in Del Mar to watch the ponies run. During our stay we always have dinner 1 night at the 'Market Restaurant and Bar'. This restaurant is a must for all "foodies". The Chef/Proprietor commands a well run, efficient, consistent and creative kitchen and staff. The talented staff includes a Chef de Cuisine, an Exec. Sous Chef, 2 Sous Chefs and a Pastry Chef. During this visit, our food selections were only from the Appetizer/Starter section of the menu and we were more than pleased with our choices. Our dinner started with an excellent Poached Shrimp Amuse Bouche and ended with the Salted Caramels that are made in house. Our dining experience was elevated due to the excellent attention by our server Jason R."

  • "The only reason there is a four star is we ate at the bar. You don't get the same attention as when you sit in the dining room. That was our choice and should not reflect on the resturtant. That being said, the reason I chose the Market Resturant is the food. Purely outstanding of blending flavors. And then the presentation of the food was purely outstanding!!!!! Yes, I will be back. Compliments to the chef and staff!!!"

  • "We went for our 32nd anniversary. I am a confirmed foody and have provided cheese and participated in some of the most exclusive farm to table events in San Diego. I was floored by the quality and presentation of the local veggies. The sauces were exquisite especially with the fish courses. We chose the tasting menu with wine pairings and so had a chance to taste each others plates. I had heard that the service was good. That is not true-the service was exceptional, professional, attentive and knowledgable. The timing of the courses was spot on with the food being served perfectly hot or cold as appropriate. It would be demeaning of the staff to say the "service is good." I can't wait for my next chance to dine at Market."

My husband had a beef duo special, really rich and incredible, especially the twice baked potato that came as one of his sides. I had the yellowfin tuna. Much lighter, but still great, with a wonderful fried quinoa, edamame and ham. Starters were equally wonderful. My only regret was not getting dessert."

  • "We finally made it to Market. we were surprised by the location - it looked like a nondescript office building but it was very snazzy inside. Our evening was very enjoyable. We felt like we had had a special night out. We especially liked the fact that it was quieter. We were surprised given our options for reservations that the place wasn't busier. Food was interesting and delicious, but sauces were heavy, rich and salty. We had the duck, the black cod and the beef duo. Corn soup and tuna tartar starters were lovely. Dessert trio was perfect to share. I might give this place another try. It was just so hyped up for us that it couldn't possibly live up to all the talk."

  • "Our family of 5 recently dined at this restuarant. The food was fantastic and the service was professional but sincere and the food was fantastic. Our starters included Tuna Tartare, Duck Liver Confit, Tempura Soft Shell Crab and Heirloom Tomatoes with Burrata Cheese. All were excellent. Our entrees included Black Cod, Yellowfin Tuna, Skirt Steak and a combination Skirt Steak and Cabernet Braised Short Ribs. Each entree was fantastic. We would definitely return. PS: the bar area was very nice and there was a creative cocktail offering along with wonderful wines by the glass."

I was especially pleased with the rack of lamb with the curry sauce, with the lamb cooked perfectly and complemented with the unique sauce. Location is very convenient to Del Mar Racetrack, and is a great choice for dinner after attending the races."

  • "The kitchen is great and the food delicious. But there are now many places in San Diego where you get that. We were disappointed in the service and thought the prices were sky-high for what you got. The wine list was especially ridiculous--$21 for a glass of wine? The menu, too, is over-the-top in pricing. I don't care for the slick, dark, "urban" look of the redesign. The new design makes sound reverberate so it's a hard place to have quiet conversations. Our biggest complaint was service--over-weening, unctuous, and obnoxious. We arrived on time and had to wait 20 minutes for a table, just enough for the bar to try to sell us more expensive drinks. And the waiter was like someone in Portlandia. We may not be back soon."

  • "We were impressed with the experience that we had at Market Restaurant and Bar. We ordered from the tasting menu with the optional wine pairings. The courses were refined, delicious, and accompanied by a perfectly-paired wine. The service was immediate, attentive, and easy. The server obviously took his cue from us regarding our rapport, as I noticed that his rapport with a nearby table was different (still fantastic just more formal, whereas we prefer a more informal service). Overall, our dining experience was superb and the meal was one of the best that I have had in a while."

  • "The food was all fabulous! Some of the best we've had in San Diego. The only thing is that we went there thinking our child could have pizza from their new pizza oven and they only would let him order it in the bar. So we moved from our nice linen table to the bar area. You can order off both menus there. Just a warning. The truffled fries, pork tacos and short ribs were fabulous! Small menu but when you add the bar menu there is something for everyone. Don't miss this gem."
