Diner Reviews
  • "What a lovely, romantic setting to celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary. The hostess scattered rose petals over our table to celebrate with us. Our server, Melissa, was professional and efficient. She brought us a complimentary glass of delicious champagne to start our evening. We selected a half bottle of Dry Creek Cab to enhance my 14 oz luscious New York strip and my husband's short rib. The food was excellent - the wine a perfect accompaniment. The restaurant was very conducive to a romantic evening. we will DEFINTELY choose Luminaria again for special evenings!"

  • "Had 2 breakfasts and one dinner. Breakfast is rather expensive (but that is true of most Santa Fe hotel restaurants) -- but not as good as La Posada. For dinner, the ambiance was nice, but food was not distinguished. I had the relleno from the Prix Fixe menu, and it was only OK. It needed to be hotter (temperature), and the flavors were muted. It just seemed a bit tired. My companion had the chicken, which was on the dry side. Service is leisurely. Minor disappointment, overcome, when the waitstaff had to check their watch due to time limits of 5-6:30pm on the Prix Fixe menu -- remove the paper from the menu book if you're too late; don't penalize folks seated a 6:25pm but unable to order until 6:35pm due to slow/limited waitstaff."

  • "Even though it rained while we were dining outside, it did not matter and it neither ruined the food nor the atmosphere. The service folks handled it professionally and we landed inside where the decor is elegant but understated. The service understood before we even had to tell them that we were on the way to the Opera. The food was subtle and flavorful and not over abundant--just right in fact. We had blue corn duck confit with a chili sauce that had just the right notes. My friend had the salmon and I had the Chilean Sea bass which was crispy on the outside and cooked perfectly on the inside. We then had goat cheesecake and the bread pudding which suited both our tastes. The amount of food was perfect and we left there hoping to return!"

  • "Delightful experience! I had thick filet that was incredibly tender. Loved Chef surprise of a crab taste. The wine, food, live music, and service made for an an excellent dining experience."

  • "We spent several days visiting Santa Fe and this was by far our favorite meal. Loved sitting outside, enjoying the lovely weather and wonderful guitarist. Service was impeccable. We started with a delightful amuse-bouche - a prawn in cocktail sauce. Then we shared the Grilled Romaine salad, which was incredible. My husband had the salmon and I had the sea bass, both beautifully presented and delicious. We did not have room for dessert, but were happy to enjoy the chocolate truffles our waiter brought us."

  • "Really enjoyed the patio dining. Had the prix fixe dinner menu- overall enjoyable with above-average food for the area. Had the Blue corn crepe with duck confit as an appetizer. Did not taste like duck, tasted more like pork, but overall the concept was good idea."

  • "We went for our anniversary dinner. The food and ambiance were very special."

  • "Had a wonderful dinner at Luminaria. It was our last of four nights in Santa Fe and we could not have picked better. The food was truly outstanding and the service was great. We were still celebrating getting married two nights earlier and the restaurant knew and put rose petals on our table and give us champagne. The rack of lamb was prepared perfectly, and the scallop and chorizo appetizer was incredible. The goat cheesecake was out of this world. We really had a great evening from start to finish. All of the staff were very friendly and provided outstanding service. We have eaten at most of the top restaurants in Santa Fe and Luminaria is one of the best. We will go back next time we are in Santa Fe."

  • "We have never been disappointed at Luminaria. The patio is lovely any season but the live music and perfect Santa Fe weather made this year's Father's Day brunch absolutely perfect. Thank you for once again making our family gathering very special!"

  • "The food and the ambience was excellent. The service was unfortunately very poor. The staff was very nice and friendly; however, it took forever to get a drink, let alone the dinner. It's really ashamed, because it put a damper on what would have otherwise been a great dining experience."

  • "The setting and ambiance is always great, winter or summer. The hotel always has a great chef in residence. It's our "go to" place for fine dining as a couple or when entertaining friends from out of town."

  • "One of the best restaurants in Santa Fe in every way. Outstanding atmosphere, service, menu, and food. We sat outside on the beautiful patio. We began with the flash fired squash blossoms stuffed with goat cheese. They were delectable, and everything we ordered was heavenly. You have many choices in Santa Fe for great dining, but don't miss this place. "

  • "Truly memorable first experience with superb food and first class service. 3 course meal - taco soup, salmon and flan dessert was simply outstanding and at $30, we thought we were in a dream. A la cart paella was best ever - even vs Madrid and Barcelona. Delicate, packed with shrimp, scallops, etc - it was over the top. Broad wine list and reasonably priced options. Service was attentive and pleasant, but not over bearing. Sitting outside as sun set made a lovely evening into a top 10 dining experience. Thank you Liminaria !"

  • "Eating on the patio at Luminaria is always an enjoyable treat. Looking up at the spirals on the Loretto Chapel is delightful. The food, the service and ambience are all outstanding."

  • "Great potential but lacking a few important details. The bread basket was nice with multiple options but there were muffins that were over-cooked and hard. They never should have left the kitchen. Our waitress was great and there were two buspersons handling our table but they never came back to check on our water and I was out for an extended time and had to ask the waitress to send someone over. There was also an issue with the sun. They need some solar shades on the doors to the patio to block the evening setting sun. The sun was in my eyes and no where to move. Tortilla soup, spinach salad, short ribs were great. My carrots were too hard but that is the only food concern we had besides the muffins. Nice dining room and patio."

  • "This was a Birthday dinner for my husband - we are locals. We had been to Luminara several times already and it constantly delights us. Everything was perfect - from the attention from the waitstaff, to the dishes themselves (we are vegetarians but went with salmon for him) and especially the desserts. It was a lovely evening for outdoor seating and we relished that because of the unusual weather over the memorial day weekend. A memorable evening all together for us. Thank you. Next up is - indoors by the fire, perhaps. "

  • "Visiting from out of town, I ate at Luminaria as a solo diner. The server, Aimee, was very personable and attentive which enhanced the dinint experience. I ordered the rack of lamb which was very well prepared and with a good sized portion of meat. The accompanying pea puree with a bit of a spice was a nice complement. I was told a new chef had just started and this was his second day and that he plans to redo the menu. "

  • "The overall experience was outstanding. The food, especially, was so good. It was one of best dining experiences that we have had in Santa Fe or anywhere else for that matter. "

  • "It was a lovely evening, but the Halibut was dry, eventhough I ordered it prepared medium. However, the short ribs were outstanding."

  • "I picked the restaurant to experience this wonderful sounding dish. Just put a little more heat in it and it is a KNOCK OUT! MY dinner guest was one of the largest hotel owners in the Southwest. The starters were amazing. The wine paired well. You have a very CREATIVE menu"

  • "This was our first time at Luminaria and it was great. Perfect for outdoor dining right next to the Loretto Chapel. My halibut special was perfect and my wife's seafood paella was also very good. My only minor sticking point was that they have a nice outdoor fireplace that was not being tended to. A fire would have been an excellent backdrop. Instead it was just smoldering."

  • "This is a very beautiful restaurant.I chose the three course early special. Its $30 without wine, so I chose one nice glass of Grgich Chardonnay for $14 and had a small bowl of chicken soup, a delicious salmon dish, and the bread pudding. The portions were generous I had enough salmon to bring home for salmon on toast the next day.My husband had just soup, salad, and a great local Santa Fe IPA beer.I was quiet and soothing, service was gentle and courteous,"

  • "Booked Luminaria for what we hoped would be an enjoyable, even if pricey, Mother's Day brunch. Service was very poor. Bread/pastries were meager. Appetizer was good ---especially the spinach and kale salad, but main course was pathetic. Eggs benedict and salmon had very little salmon and hollandaise sauce was strange looking and tasting. Service between courses was so slow (how can it take nearly 30 minutes to prepare eggs benedict??) that we lost our appetites and simply had our desserts boxed to go. Having sponsored one very successful large dinner meeting at Luminaria nearly two years ago my high expectations were dashed this Mother's Day."

  • "We really appreciated being able to share appetizers and taste many of the things on the a la carte menu. The food was fabulous and we welcome the idea of using local products and changing the menu frequently. Service was impeccable and made us feel welcome. The Legacy Club allows locals to dine with discounts, making this a neighborhood spot, not just a place for tourists."

  • "The service was excellent and the food was fabulous. The braised short ribs were melt-in-your-mouth tender and absolutely delicious. My wife had the sea bass and it was equally as good."

  • "I'm often surprised Luminaria gets little press. When I have either social or business breakfast, i always meet here. The food is good, they really created a nice outside patio and the staff is good. I've been here for dinner and it has always been good and consistent. I live in Santa Fe, people have come and gone from this place and I've always been satisfied. "

  • "We generally have brunch at Luminaria but opted for an early dinner with their food and wine pairing menu. Everything was tasty and the wines were excellent. Wish the chairs weren't so tall! The outside patio tables and chairs are just right and the atmosphere is great."

  • " We had the pre theater dinner, 3 courses with wine pairing, $54, a bargain for fine dining in Santa Fe. The breads were a great start-especially the red chile biscotti and blue corn cornbread. Our appetizer of a duck filled rolled blue corn enchilada on a chile sauce was exceptional. The main courses and dessert were excellent as well. The service by Aimee was friendly, efficient and noteworthy for getting the wines to us before each course arrived. In short it was a perfect meal. "

  • "My husband and I booked our anniversary weekend at the Inn and Spa at Loretto, so it was so convenient to dine at Luminaria We were given a romantic, semi-secluded table, and when the staff found out it was our anniversary, they came and sprinkled rose petals at the center of the table. We started with appetizers, and the tortilla soup is the best I've ever had. Our main dishes were also very tasty, well-prepared, and just the right temperature. We were even offered a complimentary dessert, which was delicious as well. We would definitely come back here."

  • "Luminaria is right "up there" as one of the very best restaurants in Santa Fe, NM. Those internet reviews were correct and right on the mark. This place has delicious food, exquisitely prepared, and some of the friendliest staff we have ever met. Marilyn Litton (restaurant manager) is a nice lady who takes the time to check with guests regarding their experiences. The regular menu changes periodically, is interesting (in a good way), and reasonably priced (my opinion). But the "fixed price" menu is one fantastic bargain! At $30 for an appetizer, entre and dessert; and $54 for same but with wine pairings for each course: this is unbelievable! You would be hard-pressed to find such a "value" in any city with such an excellent restaurant. "

  • "We celebrated a Birthday and the Birthday boy was wished Happy Birthday, and there were rose petals on the table for the celebration, in addition a glass of champaigne or desert was offered compliments of the house. The food was very good. We will go back."

  • "We enjoyed Luminaria and the fact that it was walking distance from our hotel La Fonda. The food and service was excellent. Hostess could have been friendlier, but I am not sure she spoke that much English. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and our server was great. Enjoyed the salad and the blackened salmon, the serving was large and in retrospect should have split it with my husband."
