A word from Lucques
Since opening in 1998 Lucques has garnered extraordinary accolades and is now recognized as one of the country’s best restaurants. It's California cuisine with French and Mediterranean influences is served in the warm and intimate setting of the rustic carriage house of the original Harold Lloyd estate.

One of the reasons for the all the acclaim is the Sunday Supper, the night that best exemplifies the original mission of owners Chef Suzanne Goin and Sommelier Caroline Styne, by offering seasonal prix fix menus that re-create the atmosphere of a relaxed family dinner.

Diner Reviews
  • "Once one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles, but now a total disappointment. Stopped going a couple of years ago because the quality was going down. Thought I'd try it again for lunch. It was not good. I was served something I did not order. Had to wait until my other guests were finished with their lunch before I received mine. The appetizer (corn soup) and the main course (grilled eggplant on ricotta cheese toast) were both bland and uninteresting. A total waste of time and money."

  • "We came for Sunday Supper for a friend's birthday, and had a truly wonderful experience. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and quiet enough to have a conversation. The service was fantastic. I'd definitely recommend and would definitely go back again!"

  • "had the stone fruti salad with burrata & the suckling pig - which was oddly shaped in a large ball. Wife had the market lettuces and hanger steak. The starters & side dishes stole the show. Oh & basil panne cotta w/ melon sorbet for desert"

  • "Every menu presented to you is mouth-watering from the cocktails to the starters, main course all the way to dessert. And everything we ordered was delicious."

  • "Lucques, until now, has always been one of my favorite restaurants. But since Suzanne Goin has gone on to open many other restaurants, she has lost her concentration on Lucques, and the quality of the food has completely slipped. Our starters, mostly salads, were fine, but then again they weren't anything complicated. But all of our entrees were not near the standard of preparation and quality I have come to expect from her food. I won't go there again."

  • "Lucques has a great ambiance, very relaxing and pleasant making dining a joy. Food is very creative and seasonal so the menu changes often. Unlike most restaurants nowadays lucques offers delicious toasted almonds and olives along with the warm crusty bread -"

  • "The food was excellent but there was a few tables at 9 around 9:30 we were the last table. :("

  • "We had a very nice bbq meal at their one-a-year bbq event. Our table for six didn't have enough room for all the plates and we were quite crowded. The food was delicious and there was lots of it though the corn on the cob was just room temperature. All in all a lovely meal."

  • "Delicious, delicious, delicious! Pork ribs, beef ribs, lamb ribs and spicy chicken wings. All well prepared and accompanied by a refreshing watermelon and arugula salad, not too sweet baked beans, sweet corn on the cob, collard greens (hubby enjoyed), cornbread (hubby enjoyed), coleslaw with a light non-mayo dressing and strawberry-peach cobbler with buttermilk ice cream. Takes place every August and should be tried at least once. You will not be sorry!"

  • "Our first time here and we can't say enough good things. We loved the set-up. Indoor and covered rear patio dining. We chose indoor for the booth and the rustic European look. Great mixology drinks with layered flavoring in them. The menu was not extensive, which guarantees great cooking. We were not disappointed in our choices. Excellent!"

  • "I highly recomend this place. It is a very nice place for dinner, adequate lighting.the food is very good.If you are two people I recomend to order one main course for each one and share a dessert or a salad to start with. the only negative thing i would say is that is a little bit noisy and you cannot listen the person you are talking with or the waiters.the tables for two are a little bit small. however I think is worth it to go,very good food experience"

  • "I had been to this restaurant numerous times in previous years, but had not been in the past 18 months or so until recently. The quality of the food has gone down; the presentation has gone down; the innovation seems to be nonexistent. I don't know what happened to the place but it is kind of sad. One of my favorite places has gone off my list completely now!"

  • "Lucques is always wonderful but our dining experience on 8-4-14 was absolutely amazing. Our server Sarah was so friendly and had great suggestions for us, the weather outside on the patio was lovely, and the food was perfection. So fresh, so beautifully prepared, so colorful and pleasing to both the palate and the eye, and we are so happy that we had our birthday celebration at Lucques. We love that the menu changes all the time but we still miss the beignet for dessert. Thank you so much for our beautiful meal."

  • "The Sunday Supper here was amazing. Amazingly balanced flavors in the salad. The lamb was cooked to perfection and the housemade gnocchi was a perfect al dente. The breadcrumbs on the gnocchi also show a sense of texture and understanding the various tensions you need in a dish to take it to "the next level". The service was so professional and also pleasant (sometimes you don't get both). And I loved the relaxed timing of the courses but my friend got antsy (FYI). Would definitely make this a must-go on my trips to LA."

  • "Our first time was great and that's why we came back the 2nd time. This time they forgot about my wife b-day so we never got our free dessert. The pork I ordered was very salty and I couldn't even finish it. I needed to drink two bottles of water before going to bed. The corn soup was just ok; bland. I had better soup when I ate at the Souplantation the next day. The eggplant salad was pretty good, and the salmon dish was good. They charged for refills. I had a diet coke in the smallest cup I have ever seen. The opening at the top of about 2" on the 6" tall glass. It was $5 for the first glass and another $5 for each refill. It was the worst $160 dinner I have ever had. 2 stars because of the eggplant salad and salmon entree."

  • "Our server made excellent suggestions both for menu items and wine list. The staff is really attentive. I love the atmosphere. I live right up the street and haven't been for awhile, but plan to be a more frequent patron now."

  • "The setting was perfect for our wedding lunch for seven. Summer heat kept us from eating on the patio but we enjoyed the view from our table and the delicious Luquitos (The Lucques signature Mojito) kept us cool and refreshed. The burgers were delicious -- the balsamic aioli and grilled onions the perfect counterpoint to the succulent lean beef. Heirloom tomato salad and sweet corn soup were outstanding starters. Service was top-notch and made the whole party feel special on our special day."

  • "We sat "outdoors" which consisted of a high walled-in patio with an open roof = sort of outside; not exactly what was expected. That said, both the food and the service were very good."

  • "Sorry to be critical, but we felt like a number at this restaurant. There was nothing special about our experience--nothing bad, just not excellent. Service was efficient but indifferent, food was good (overly seasoned for my taste) but pretty ordinary, and price, even on Dine LA event ($45 per peson), was excessive for what we received. For Dine LA, the choice was farmed "Scottish" salmon or chicken paillard -- ho hum. I would think the restaurant would want to use this opportunity to parade its stuff. We probably would not return anytime soon, given better choices for restaurants in L.A. at this price point."

  • "In LA for a w/e concert and food - Lucques was a treat at the end of the w/e. It was a great restaurant experience - food, service, and environment were perfectly done, especially, professionally managed and served. Highly recommend Lucques!"

  • "Food was good & service was excellent. Although we didn't take advantage of your dineLA menu, we had a great lunch!"

  • "The wait staff was very kind but in serious need of training. Plates were auctioned at our table of two guests (vs. the waitstaff remembering the positions of each meal) and unfinished drinks were cleared while empty ones sat empty. I brought a friend here for a birthday dinner and had prepared in advance for a desert and candle to be delivered to the table. It never was, even though I re-confirmed the plan with the front desk just before dining. I can't say enough about the kindness of the staff, from front of house to waiters. Very nice people. However, nice personalities and only average menu/flavor was just not worth the inconveniences mentioned above."

  • "My food was bursting with flavor, from beginning to end. Dessert was so delicious. Our waitress and the other staff were great. We dined out in the patio.Very quaint and relaxing. Food is pricey but worth it."

  • "First time at Lucques. Being a West-Sider, I have been to their sister restaurant The Tavern in Brentwood a number of times, so I was looking for an occasion to experience Lucques. This restaurant had many well-deserved excellent reviews, but in fact, I like the Tavern better. Maybe I'm a West-Side snob, but even getting there was a challenge for a 7:00 p.m. reservation, coming from the coast. The. room was cozy nicely appointed, and the outdoor patio, where we sat, was lovely on a summer night. The food menu is thoughtful and unusual, and the food was as good s I expected. Still I would choose the atmosphere in the garden room at the Tavern, where the food and service is even better."

  • "The maître de and the server were most attentive. A good feeling was achieved upon entering the venue. The ambience was fantastic, the décor had an inviting, comfortable, relaxed feeling. Try the mojito, made with ginger beer. Absolutely divine!! We indulged in a yellow peach salad, with a notable hit of arugula and mint flavors. Scrumptious! The salmon with couscous and summer squash, was served to perfection. My guest for lunch was most impressed with Lucques."

  • "Corn soup was intolerably spicy. Salad was OK nothing special, just lettuce and cherry tomatoes with average dressing. Chicken was OK, sauce overpowered it and was very salty so who knows. Desserts were the best thing they offered. Service was good. You sit so close to the next table that when that person gets up to leave they knock over the wine glass at your table. It is also hard to concentrate on talking since you have to talk over both neighboring tables and the room itself. Best to eat out doors. It is very distracting, Not sure why this restaurant has all the hoopla. It is just trendy and overpriced."

  • "The food at Lucques is always outstanding. However, this time the evening was a bit off. Perhaps it was because of DineLA the restaurant was very crowded. We had two tables pushed together that faced the outside and, inspite of one of the bussers stabilizing the tables, they were rocky all night. The service was a bit slow, and at times it was hard to get someone's attention. Our server Isabel was wonderful and I will indeed go back but will avoid the table in this location."

  • "Maybe I'm a food snob but don't see how this restaurant made it to #5 on Jonathan Gold's list. Food was very good, garden outside was pretty but tables were plastic. Service was nice. I suspect I have a bigger issue with Jonathan Gold than with the restaurant."
    Dined on 7/21/2014
  • "The DineLA menu felt a bit constrained as there were not many choices, but that is only negative thing I can find to say about my dinner. The food was marvelous, the service terrific, and the ambiance on the back patio was lovely. We were seated right away despite being a bit early for the reservation, and the appetizers, entrees and desserts were truly wonderful. Don't miss it!"

  • "I picked Suzanne Goin's Lucques for the experience, and the rave. But my expectations fell flat with the crowded seating space (I was facing the bathroom watching people in line anxiously waiting to go in, something that is expected at a CPK or Cheesecake Factory chain restaurant). Buss boys buzzing in an out of the place with plate/glass crates from the bar to the kitchen or wherever...We received average attention from the waitress, our appetizers and cheese plate arrived about the same time, about 15 min. after we had our bottle of wine worked, Overall, my experience was below average for the money spent, nothing to brag about...Sorry."

  • "Flavorless fish, and the food took forever to arrive. I don't blame the servers, who were attentive and pleasant. Slow arrival for food is almost always the fault of the kitchen. The hake was garbage, the salmon mediocre. The tomatoes in the tomato salad were bland. This was overpriced food that had salt and butter but no real taste."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "Great service, excellent food. Enough said. I love how fresh and tasty everything is. You can tell that they put love and detail into every bite. The atmosphere is quaint and refreshing. I felt like I was eating an exceptional meal and I wouldn't expect anything less from Lucques."

  • "Having Been there for dinner, I decided to try Lucques for lunch. And it did not disappoint. I came during the Dine LA week, and everything on the menu was appealing. If you tried their dinners, come if you can for lunch. Just as good, I think. It's worth a try."

  • "This was our third experience at Lucques, so obviously we think it's worth returning. The heirloom tomato salad was gorgeous and featured incredibly ripe and tasty fruit, but the corn soup was little more than corn cooking water. It was so thin, and not very tasty! Entrees were excellent, and desserts were fabulous. The plum tart was most memorable. The sommelier helped us select a wine that was really too young and sharp, and did not complement our dinner. Alas! But overall, the food was well prepared, the service attentive, and the atmosphere very pleasant. We'll be back!"
