Diner Reviews
  • "I checked the top ten restaurants list on a Santa Fe website and found that this was the only one I hadn't tried. I am a part time Santa Fe resident, so I have the opportunity to try everything new. I was so pleasantly surprised to find such a wonderful restaurant in a familiar location. The dining room was decorated tastefully with bright colors which provided a great ambiance. It is a small space, but the servers artfully maneuvered around the tables with ease. The menu provided a wide selection of entrees, and the dessert menu was wonderful. I will definitely put this on my "Must Return" list of restaurants in Santa Fe."

  • "L'Olivier is becoming better and better. This well located restaurant has gone through many iterations and it finally has an owner who has redone it and my guest and I found it to be ideal. It is not overly engineered but is both local and international. This is my 4th visit in 5 months and each meal has very good. A special salad comprised of lobster, apple, avocado and a marvelous light dressing was superior. Each fish entrée was fresh and perfectly cooked and tasty...scallops for one and halibut for the other. The bread was wonderfully fresh and cut and brought to the table. Floating island (could look more professional) was light and tasty with a perfect cappuccino at the end of the meal. Can't go wrong with this restaurant."

  • "Wonderful ahi tuna appetizer, superb special appetizers (lobster salad, warm asparagus and ham salad), terrific halibut special with mac and cheese made with orzo and marscapone accompanied by artichoke hearts, very good desserts (creme brulee, chocolate tart with salted caramel ice cream), nice wine selection, and friendly, attentive service make this a great place to go in downtown Santa Fe."

  • "Authentic food, great location and atmosphere, loved the wine menu, service, appetizers, main course and dessert. Highly recommended. The food was honest, clean, beautifully prepared and you could taste that chef loves his new place - a joy all around. The staff was exceptional. What a gem in Santa Fe!"

  • "Attractive but not intimidating dining room, friendly staff, busy but not packed. We ordered coq au vin and the halibut special. Both were very well prepared with some interesting side notes (brussel sprouts and bacon with the chicken, beets and marscapone with the fish). Our starters were delicious too, potato leek soup and arugula fig salad. Everything was delicious. And they have quite a few wines by the glass so everyone can have what they prefer."

  • "This was our first time at the restaurant and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere is wonderful, the service great & the food spectacular! It is on our list to revisit next time we are in Santa Fe. A must for diners who love French cuisine. The wines are also very reasonably priced, a plus in Santa Fe where too many restaurants have pushed their wine prices over the top."

  • "The one negative: they tend to over book and then they shuffle tables which creates confusion in the dining room. The tables are really for two and they put four at them. Some tables are totally undesireable--in a corner, next to a cabinet, etc. The food is excellent; the confusion in the dining room is a distraction."

  • "Just about too crowded and noisy to hear the person sitting next to you. They need to think about their wooden floors, closely-packed tables and tile ceiling and try to redesign to lower the noise level. The food and ambiance were excellent, and reservation honored on time despite the crowds."

  • "We were a group of 4 and two of us had meals that were inedible. It was so noisy we couldn't hear each other. The tables were so close the staff could barely get around us and even spilled water down my husbands back ."

  • "Wonderful cuisine, excellent in creation and execution; very nice, approachable, affordable, interesting wine list; excellent service - just right, observant & attentive, not intrusive"

  • "Santa Fe is known for it's great dining. It takes a true gem to stand out in that crowd. We think the Olive Tree has captured the essence of a quality dining experience. When traveling, my Wife and I like to try new restaurants. We scroll through the options in Open Table and make a reservation. Sometimes we walk away with a positive experience, sometimes we walk away a bit disappointed, and on rare occasions we come away feeling we had experienced something special. After our evening at L'Olivier, we both felt that we had just experienced a meal. Hats off to the Chef, his Wife and the entire staff for taking the time to strive to perfect every detail. This Family has put in the extra hours to ensure everything was just right."

  • "Absolutely wonderful food. My husband and I both thought it was the best food we have had in Santa Fe in many years. Kudos to the chef and staff. Appropriate sized portions. Escargot, lobster salad, and bass dishes were perfection."

  • "Delicious! Nice array of dishes and specials down to the final bite of chocolate soufflé! Top of my list with all my other favorites in my home town of NYC."

  • "It met my expectations, which were high after reading about this chef and family. Service was attentive, friendly and thoughtful. The food my group enjoyed was presented beautifully and was as delicious as it looked. Will return of course!"

  • "We were pleased by the welcome we received and that feeling lasted for the duration of our visit. The waitstaff was attentive and efficient, giving us a chance to sample a wine before making our decision. Our dinners were superb...just what we expected from this wonderful French journey! Dessert was outstanding and we will definitely return!"

  • "I was greeted by name so that was a great start. Nice ambiance - much cozier than the previous ownership even though the decor is the same. Just feels better... and the food was delicious and served very nicely. There for lunch but will go again next week for dinner."

  • "I'm a local so a new restaurant this good is what we all wait for. The room is very nicely set with white table cloths, fresh flowers, quite lovely and upscale. Food was impeccable and fairly priced, as was the wine list. My only complaint was the each course was put on the table so fast that we literally were in and out in an hour. That left us feeling that turning tables is much more important than creating an atmosphere where diners can linger and savor the experience in addition to the food. It was literally the difference between eating a meal and having a fine dining experience...there were six of us in our party and we all felt the same. It's a shame because the food is probably the best in Santa Fe right now."

  • "Given the hype on this place, I was disappointed. The menu was interesting and the food looked appealing. The service was very attentive. However, some serious work needs to be done on seasoning. The mushroom soup with croutons, a special for the evening, was bland and really needed some interesting spices or herbs to perk it up. The croutons were soggy. I also had the ahi tartare which likewise needed something interesting in the mix since it was supposed to be like a cerviche. It should have been served with something more than a couple of chips stuck in the top of it. Crostini? This place is not inexpensive. They need to ramp up on the food or they will be gone like the other restaurants that had not made it at this location."

  • "Service and atmosphere were good. The triple chocolate mousse was great. Bread was dry. Mushroom soup was ok as was vegetarian entree- and house salad- but home cooking is better-not a gourmet experience. Wine and beer options were good. For the prices charge - not worth the visit except for dessert. Husband said steak was also just ok - Was looking forward to trying the fig salad but dressing has meat base."

  • "the food is not good-it is great! i, personally, had an excellent meal and i love the location. this community [santa fe] supports a lot of very good to excellent food stops, and this is one of them. i can't wait to return. because of the sound level-it shall be lunch. i feel quite confident the ancillary sound level will be addressed."

  • "L'Olivier is a great addition to the already robust restaurant scene in Santa Fe. Former chef at Ristra, with his charming wife as hostess, brings the solid and excellent cuisine one expected at Ristra to new heights, of quality, inventiveness, and excellence of preparation. I would classify it as modern, lighter, bistro style, with refinements; not over-the-top "molecular", but classical ideas made fresh and new. One could choose pretty much any item on the menu, encouraging returns. As is the wine list - a collection of very well chosen items, chosen to match the cuisine and offered at very reasonable prices."

  • "Operating since Christmas 2013, this gem is run by the former chef of Ristra. Now they have all the bugs worked out! Great menu, delicious food, wonderful wine list. I am so glad that they call their main dishes main dishes rather than entrées!!"

  • "Xavier has made an incredible transition after 14 years at Ristra. He and his lovely wife, Nathalie have made a lovely dining spot in the heart of downtown Santa Fe featuring traditional French fare with the infusion of Southwest flavor sand it works! Had the foie gras torch an and cold lobster salad to start with an excellent Vouvray, my husband had the short ribs and I the spiced duck entree. Both prepared perfectly and simply delicious. Capped off the evening with a lovely glass of Sauternes!"

  • "Went to L'Olivier this past week for restaurant week. There was a great buzz about the restaurant so we thought we would give it a try. The food was excellent. The only trouble I had with this experience was the speed of which the courses were served. We got there at 7PM and I swear only one or two parties showed up after us ,so turning tables should not have been the problem. We ordered our apps, finished them and within 2-3 minutes our entrees came out. We were finished with our meal in an hour. I'm not saying that I won't be back because that's not the case, the food was wonderful but really an hour and out?? I think adding on desserts we were out of there by 8:15PM...."

  • "Friends and I went for Santa Fe Restaurant Week. All the French classics we love - Bouef Burgundy, Cog au Vin, Duck a'la Orange, Escargot - all excellent dishes."

  • "L'Olivier is continuing to impress those who appreciate classic French technique and menu design with a subtle nod to our local New Mexican kitchen. A comfortable dining room with...alas, actual table cloths and candles with real flowers is a welcome respite to the wood tables and place mat crowd that has come to dominate even 'upscale, fine dining'...yuck I say! Excellent lobster salad and sturgeon on red chile risotto, my partner had the elk tenderloin, which was nicely prepared except for the small line of gristle running thru the length of the meat. The room is a bit 'hard' but the nice table settings and nonexistent 'din' make it an enjoyable evening for those interested in talking, not yelling. We return again this week!"

  • "It's wonderful to finally have a quality French restaurant in Santa Fe. There are French bistros here, but this is a full on French Restautant Nouvelle Cuisine. It's creative and fine. Chef Xavier is superb and his beautiful wife Nathalie is the ideal Hostess, warm and welcoming. Love it."

  • "We went with friends for my husband's birthday. They did a special appetizer I had requested a few days earlier and it was delicious. The manager gave us special attention and brought nice extras for his birthday. Great prices too and an affordable wine list. A rarity in this town. Go now, before you can't get in!"

  • "This restaurant has some of the best French food we have had. While the ambiance is not the best, the food and the service, especially the attention paid to customers by the owner, are what makes this restaurant a special occasion place."

  • "A great new find in Santa Fe. Good for couples or small groups. It was great to know that they do offer vegetarian options although limiting. They offer an extensive wine list for a small venue. Great corner location in downtown Santa Fe. Looking forward to dining outside on their patio in the warmer months."
