Diner Reviews
  • "This is one of those restaurants that you just want to go into for a drink and a light snack even if you have other dinner plans and even if you are not even hungry. The place is pretty narrow, but if you find a seat at the bar, it will be fairly comfortable. They do have a pretty good wine list but what they do extremely well is craft cocktails. I recently had a Moscow Mule from here where they used their ginger beer to make it. It was an impressive showing. We also had their seared calamari and the food here never disappoints. The bartender / server was pretty engaging. Will definitely return to this restaurant for eats."

  • "We came here with our kids during a vacation. The restaurant is a hip, trendy place, and my husband was worried they wouldn't be accommodating to our kids. The staff was gracious and exceptionally kind. Even though there was no kids' menu, our boys loved the burger sliders. It was a wonderful meal: kid-friendly, yet delicious. Without kids, this place is perfect for a date night or just to sit at the bar! We'll definitely be back if in the area again!"

  • "Been going here since they opened. Food has been consistently good, service attentive but not overbearing."

  • "This restaurant is amazing. Staff is very attentive and knowledgable. Food was AMAZING!! We had the hand cut fries which were delicious and unique, loved the garlic and herbs they put on top. Bison sliders were awesome and scallops melt in your mouth. Looking forward to our next date night to try more!"

  • "Great "small plate" spot (although, small plates were generous). Scallops we're tad undercooked, but crab risotto is the BEST USE OF CRAB EVER! Great food - Great fun - Fabulous service. Go soon and often!"

  • "We had a great table on the 2nd floor and really enjoyed the handcrafted cocktails. The tuna carpaccio was excellent as were the flatbreads. Looking forward to our next visit."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "Innovative and quite good portions for "small plates" so we ordered more than we could handle (we took home most of the very good flatbread pizza". Tuna Tartar is a must as an accompaniment to the many hot plates."

  • "We have been here a few times now, the food never disappoints! The portions are just right, the drinks/wine list excellent!"

  • "service horrible, noise untolerable and food was less than expected from all the reviews. Will not return."

  • "I found this restaurant quite easily by searching for gluten free friendly menus on yelp. The food, service and ambiance were phenomenal. The restaurant is very tastefully decorated with a feeling of intimacy. Our waiter was attentkve, knowledgeable and fun. Everyone in my group had a great time and we all enjoyed the experience very much. We can't wait to go back!!"

  • "We choie this spot for an anniversary dinner and did not disappoint! Reasonable portions allowed us to try several different items and the wine list was very good! Level has a good feel, and lots of choices for almost anyone!"

  • "This was our second time at Level, and the food was outstanding, just like our first visit. We particularly liked the roasted beets, the cheese plate, and the shrimp/grits. The only complaint we had was with our server, who seemed a little too impressed with himself. We told him we were torn between ordering cocktails or a bottle of wine. He said he was the head sommelier and would be glad to help. We mentioned a few cocktails we thought looked good as well as a bottle of wine. He proceeded to slam our wine choice by saying, "We're no longer going to carry that bottle, upon my suggestion." We were insulted. Other than that, the experience was great. Food was outstanding. We'll be back, but hope we don't get the pompous server again. "

  • "We enjoyed levels. We liked the farm to table concept, and the menu offered lots of items that look tempting. The cocktails we had were great, but the food was hit or miss. We liked the pistachio-crusted lamb chops (yum!), but the sautéed kale was watery and under-seasoned. The mushroom risotto is great comfort food, but a bit on the bland side. Still, we'll be back to try more."

  • "Went with another couple who also love trying new things. The drinks were awesome - try the Moscow Mule. We ordered two plates each to start and then reorder two of them. Quick turnaround from the kitchen and each was perfectly done. It is no wonder why the spicy tuna is their most popular dish - try it and you will know what I mean. "

  • "Awesome restaurant, my fav in Annapolis. I've never had a bad meal here and their drinks are amazing as well! "
    Dined on 5/17/2014
  • "We started off with cocktails, both of which were excellent, imaginative, and tasty. We continued with the pork ragout and a cheesy flatbread. Again, both were excellent. Service was just right; always there when you want them; not over-attentive or intrusive."

  • "If you enjoy fresh, local food, a good wine selection and imaginative cocktails, all expertly served in an upscale urban bistro setting, you need to visit Level. "

  • "We had a late lunch so we only wanted something light before we went off to the show at Ram's Head. Our shared beet salad, his pistachio-coated lamb chops and my pan-seared scallops were all excellent choices but it was my "360 gimlet" that was the super star. Get this drink!! Not only is it made with fresh lime juice but it's topped with an amazing frothy foam that will have u licking your lips and wishing you didn't have show tickets so you could down another. Our server was knowledgable, pleasant & efficient. I'd go back in a heartbeat for that gimlet alone!"

  • "Really wanted to love this place, came away only liking it, fabulous concept, food was on point (fried Brussels sprouts were delicious - who knew?). Level would have been four or even five stars had we had a waiter that gave a damn. His tip could have been 2x what it was, if he had cared. Mike G, it was your loss. . .you were horrible. Once you saw that the size of our party was going to get you 20%, you didn't give a damn. It was not the food, it was not how loud the upstairs was. it was the horrible service that we received that really made me give this a three. If you go, ask for a table downstairs, upstairs acoustics cause it to be VERY LOUD. Try the sliders, or the scallops and the Shrimp and grits. . .but get a better waiter."

  • "Level Small Plates is our destination for special occasions, this visit being for my wife's birthday. The food is excellent and the serving portions are great when you want to taste a little something of everything. The atmosphere and serving sizes encourage an extremely social outing. Everything about this place is great - minor hiccup in service on this visit when 1 of the meals did not come as ordered and the server asked us if we wanted to order another one (intending us to pay again for a dish that was prepared incorrectly) - Not too happy about that. The acoustics are very loud so you'll want to be seated on the 1st floor or visit when the weather is nice so the front wall & windows are open."

  • "Fantastic food, good service, and decent prices. My wife and I were in Annapolis for a short visit, and ate at Level on the advice of a friend--and great advice it was! We will definitely be back. "

  • "What do you want on oysters? Butter and lemon. What is hollandaise? Butter and lemon juice emulsified in egg yolks. Hollandaise on oysters, broiled: brilliant."

  • "Every time we visit Annapolis we dine at this unique restaurant. This time, we brought along three of our friends, and they were VERY impressed! The food was absolutely delicious. Their scallops were exceptional, along with the pork flatbread, Brussels sprouts, bruschetta, mushroom dish and others. When we asked if the chef was available so we could compliment him on the scallops, he promptly came to our table and was very appreciative of our comments. We will continue to spred the word about this gem of a restaurant!"

  • "Ate at Level for a friend's bachelorette party. Great, fun drinks. And awesome food. Loved the small plates and how the group could share a bunch of dishes. Level was accomodating to our 10 person party, allowing us to make a reservation, unlike many local restaurants."

  • "Great food; many eclectic choices with something for everyone. Amazing taste combinations of disparate ingredients. Service was great; waitstaff very helpful. Low background music of 60s soul and R&B was spot on. Highly recommend for an intimate interesting evening out."

  • "The wild mushroom risotto failed to impress anyone; the portion was small, the rice was over-cooked and turned to mush). The BBQ tacos were a favorite, small corn tortillas with a hefty pile of pork bbq with a tangy white sauce and jalapeno slices. Excellent. Unfortunately, the tacos replaced the superb cuban spring rolls that I tried the last time I was there. Fortunately, the shrimp and grits were still on the menu and it once again proved to be among the best of the dishes we tried. Equally good was the Cheesy flatbread, a mix of four cheeses on a thin crust with herbs -- outstanding. Our waiter was the most disappointing factor - slow to get the drink order and once he put our order in, he seemed to forget we existed."

  • "Great for couples or several couples. Great drinks. Some favorite choices are the Tuna Tartar, Seared Scallops and the Butcher Steak."

  • "I am still getting used to the "small plates" menu. So many choices! The Beet Salad and the Tuna Tartare rock! Their flatbreads are amazing and plenty for two to share. My husband LOVED the sliders and the fries. The only thing that irritated me was we had 6pm reservations on a weekday. The host seated us in the room with the bar which was very noisy so we asked that we be moved to the room away from the bar which was virtually empty. He was clearly annoyed and said "That room is booked for reservations." I said "But WE had a reservation and we are here first!" He sniffed and, with a total attitude, grabbed the menus and just said "Follow me." I didn't appreciate that. Not a good way to start our evening. Good thing the food was good."

  • "The move to local sourcing brings marvelous food to the table. Couple local source with the small plate movement, and a star is born! This lively place focuses on foods from the area with dairy products & cheeses from western, central & The Shore in Maryland, oysters from Maryland, lamb from Pennsylvania, beef from Virginia's Shenandoah Valley - you get the picture. Food choices are ingeniously grouped: from the field, from the pasture, from the water and accompanied by group plates to share (appetizers) or flatbreads. An ample selection of dessert plates tops off your meal if you choose. Wine and bar selection is superb. Rare to order a pisco sour without getting, "A what?" A welcome addition to the Annapolis dining scene!"

  • "Everything was just perfect. The 360 Gimlets are outstanding. Try the Bacon and Smoked Scallop Flatbread AND the Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding. Great for a top-notch meal before a show at Rams Head down the street."

  • "My husband & I dined Saturday early evening. We had perused the menu online beforehand so we knew what we wanted to order. Every plate was delicious, but the fried bussels sprouts were out of this world. It was a wonderful location to have an intimate meal with my husband. We will be back!"

  • "This was my first time eating here, but had previously been for drinks. We had a variety of small plates to share, of which everything was very good. The fries could have been a little better if I were too be super picky, but that's also after having had truffle fries the previous few days. In regard to the cocktails, they were superb. We adjusted the angels and demons drink to have the smoked tequila, and it took the drink to a whole new level. Would highly recommend making that adjustment and giving level a shot if you have yet to check them out!"

  • "This is our 2nd time at Levels. We wanted to take friends to a nice place after Rams Head & picked Level remembering it fondly. Level delivered again! We reserved through OpenTable a specific table through "notes". To my delight, the table was ready right when we walked in on a busy Friday night. The waitress was excellent. Great recommendations. Good menu choices (even for some of us vegetarians). Drink choices were also fun. We drink specials as recommended & loved them. Food came out super quick. The vibe is cool w/ a diverse range our customers all seeming to enjoy. My only very small criticism would be the wine by the glass pour could have been just a little larger. Level has now delivered twice! We will be back again."

  • "It is nice to know where your food is coming from -- all the major purveyors are clearly listed and local. Small plates are great with wonderful presentations, tuna tartare was lovely, the bison and bacon sliders juicy and fabulous with the pimento cheese as icing on the burger. Nice wine list, nice energy and while service is this team style system and could use some tweaking, overall this is a spot we will happily visit again."
