A word from K-Paul's
In 1979, when Chef Paul Prudhomme and his late wife, K, opened their "modest", 62-seat K-Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen on Chartres Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans, they had no idea the restaurant was soon to become a sensation, with nightly lines of eager diners waiting sometimes hours to be seated. That was back when and dining was community seating. In 1996, extensive renovations took place and now it offers seating for more than 200. Dining areas include seasonal balcony dining, an intimate climate-controlled courtyard for dining al fresco, K's Parlor private seating as well as open kitchens on both floors. K-Paul's accepts reservations and offers catering on-site or anywhere around the world.
Executive Chef Paul Miller goes to great lengths to ensure the highest quality food. We have 3 kitchen and a bakery and the philosophy and commitment to excellence will never change.

  • "The food here was so good that I sent a text during dinner to a friend visiting in a few weeks and told her to make a reservation immediately. I was there with a group of four and we each ordered different items and tasted tested everything. We had steak, tuna, flounder, drum and salmon, all of which was great. If we had to pick a favorite, it would be the char broiled tuna. We tried four different desserts as well. We were split on the favorite between the bread pudding and the ultimate chocolate cake. I will definitely be back on my next trip."

  • "I had fish with a Brie & something else I cannot remember on it? But it was divine!!! The gumbo appetizer was the best I've had. My friend had the panned chicken and it was just as scrumptious! We will come again next time were in town!"

The variations on étouffée and jambalaya were wonderful. Hopefully we can return a lot sooner and further sample the daily changing menu."

  • "My wife's beef tenderloin with debris sauce was truly amazing. I wasn't so entranced with the stuffed pork chop which served warm at best and lacked stuffing. I've had the same dish in the past and it isn't what it was. Service was effective though rather minimal."

  • "We ate here during the Coolunary event. The food was fantastic! The fried green tomatoes were so good I almost cancelled my entree to order more. I am glad I didn't as the flounder was cooked to perfection and the Chardonnay reduction sauce was a perfect compliment to the fish. Hubby had the creole dish and was equally impressed with the quality and flavour of the food!"

  • "I came into New Orleans just for a couple of days and I picked K-Paul's for the comments on the food. Well the appetizer came out quick and was very good but then I had to wait entirely too long to get my entree. While waiting on the entree, I filled up on bread and drinks and could not enjoy my meal so I had to get it to go along with my dessert. I had it the next morning and it was not as good cold (fried chicken breast and jambalaya). The pie was not good either."

  • "We put K-Paul's right at the top of some of our best dining experiences. The food was wonderful, and the service was even better. My husband and I had the blackened rib eye steak and the blackened drum fish. The food was the best. The service was great and we felt very special. A very good dining experience. When we're in New Orleans next time we will be at K-Paul's for dinner"

  • "This was our second visit to K-Paul's as a part of coolinary month. We live close to the city and enjoy going to different restaurants . The fixed price is good for one wanting to try different restaurants . The food at K-Paul's was good . It looked like they were rationing out sides . We received a dab of mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables . No, we were not expecting heaping spoons of these sides but a full cooking spoon would have been appropriate . Beware also of the parking situation. If the Omni is full and you don't want go to Jax Brewery and park , you end up at the lot across from Omni and paying 25.00. Where then is the cost effectiveness of taking advantage of the Coolinary special ? Overall, the food and service was good ."

  • "Every time I have gone to New Orleans, I always had to go to K-Paul's, but in my recent visit it was not the same. The food is excellent but the word that comes to mind with the staff was "snooty". They made me feel like they were doing me a favor by eating there. Our sever never once cracked a smile. I don't know if I will go back."

  • "I have been to many New Orleans restaurants, but never to K-Paul's. I went here because they offered the Coolinary Menu. Although, we had to ask for the menu, the waitress was very nice. I loved all the decor on the walls, especially all the recipes of popular New Orleans dishes. I even took a picture of the one on our table cloth to perhaps attempt to make one day. The best part of the experience was the absolutely incredible flavors in the food. The bread they bring out to the table is so good. The sweet potato pecan pie was also delicious! I would come here again!"

  • "First time in NOLA, we had received a recommendation that K Pauls is a must. So made a reservation on Open Table for a 5:30 reservation. Our server was pleasant and fun. She answered any questions we had. Took our pic. We had cups of Turtle Soup and Chicken and Andouille Gumbo soup. Both were fantastic. The breads and whipped butter were delectable as well. We also had (for 1st time ever) Fried Green Tomatoes with Shrimp. Awesome appetizer. We had the Surf and Turf Special entree, 4 oz tender & Drum fish Both tenders were over done and they quickly took the plates back and returned done perfectly. Mgr offered to buy desserts, but we were full, so they comped our appetizer and soup. Very classy! Great nite out in NOLA. Recommend!"

  • "We were very excited to visit this notable restaurant. Our party of 3 was very disappointed. My friend and I ordered the bronzed salmon. The sauce was so loaded with cayenne that we had tears running out of our eyes and I was choking. The mashed potatoes were starchy. Our other friend ordered the egg plant dish and it contained shrimp. The shrimp were over cooked and not fresh. We all left most of the food on our plates. While we were eating they started sweeping the floor and cleaning around us. We told the server our comments and she just shrugged her shoulders. Very disappointing."

  • "I attended Tulane 30 years ago, but was never able to get into K-Paul's, as it was always packed and they didn't take reservations and I was a college student. I went back last month with my daughter and we were able to get reservations. We were seated on the second floor, overlooking the Quarter. The atmosphere was fantastic...quiet, "romantic"(if that is what you want); our server was very knowledgeable, attentive and friendly and I had the best filet mignon I have ever had in my life! My daughter had the surf and turf and also loved it. The desserts were also delicious! I would highly recommend K-Paul's!!"

  • "So sorry to say that K-Paul’s has lost their original quality. While the food is good, the old K-Paul’s was excellent. Their crawfish etouffe was outstanding, the home made bread was superb, the Mason jar Cajun Martinis were wonderful, the desserts sublime. Not so today. So sorry to say….because K-Paul’s was always one of my favorites. I didn’t mind that I was served shrimp etouffe when I order the crawfish, and the manager graciously corrected the dish, but I do mind that as they have become bigger, they have not maintained their reputation."

  • "I had eaten here several times while on business but was able to bring my wife in from out of state to dine for the first time. She has owned a very popular restaurant business in another state for over 20 year and is always very aware of the particulars of fine dining. She ordered the Blackened Drum and Blackened filet, fried green tomatoes and the regular veggies. She declared it to be the best tasting food she has ever experienced! Everything was really nice- service to atmosphere to food. We've already shared our experience with traveling friends who have now placed K-Pauls on their destination lists. Great job, guys!"

  • "My husband and I recently made our first trip to New Orleans. I usually don't like to hit all the big name restaurants, I prefer to find the gem that is more a local treasure. However, several friend s from Louisiana said K-Paul was a must. I can't agree with them more. The food was amazing. The service was delightful and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal."

  • "Food is always excellent. The very close seating and extremely loud kitchen (pan tossing etc) is somewhat over the top. The draw for us is the cuisine. However, if your looking for a welcoming staff you won't find it here. Most of the time I find the staff out of touch, making you think they are doing you a favor by feeding you. Not the personality of K Paul himself. His employees could learn a bit from him. "

  • "Really can't say anything bad about this place. We arrived early but were seated immediately. The food was wonderful. The wine choices were staggering and the cocktails were very tasty! The service was top notch but not stuffy. Never once did we feel rushed to leave. It's not an inexpensive place so if you're on a budget, keep that in mind. We will definitely return. "

  • "I was skeptical trying rabbit, but the appetizer was very good. The batter was light and the sauce was good. I was looking forward to the duck and shrimp creole, but the duck was unrecognizable. It was overcooked and chewy. I was expecting a tender duck breast with a creole sauce and not a stew. It might be how I misconceived the description, but the table next to me also seemed disappointed. The nice thing was they took it off my check when they realized I didn't like it."

  • "The food was good but the service was awful. Our waiter who walked us to our table didn't even greet us. He wasn't friendly but he warmed up a bit when he realized we were going to order cocktails and wine. The ambiance was ok but not cozy. The place has lost its original charm when it went from a rustic to a high-end Cajun restaurant. Btw, I had the worst whiskey sour I've ever tasted because it was prepared with a mix and not from scratch. I couldn't drink it! Still the waiter charged it to my bill. The prices are a bit inflated. Not sure I'd go back."
