  • "This is my favorite restaurant in Boulder. Went here recently to celebrate my husband's birthday and successful thesis defense. The ahi tuna was the best I've ever had (somehow I realized that I'd never ordered it here before). The service was amazing as was our server, who even remembered us from past dining experiences there (it's been a little while since we've been there too!). This place is always 5 stars and never disappoints!"

  • "Enjoyed a great meal w/excellent service on a very busy Sat nite. We arrived earlier than our reservation, but the friendly hostess was able to figure out how to seat us immediately. Atmosphere was lively,w/soft lighting,&exposed brick walls. Although we didn't try the oysters,I was impressed with the selection.Worth having is the calamari appetizer.Pieces were tender&had great flavor.Unfortunately the kitchen forgot to make a side dish, but again the restaurant excelled in service-both our savvy waiter&his partner were very apologetic, informing me immediately that the dish would be comp'd. Cauliflower arrived shortly&was worth waiting for.I would definitely recommend Jax.They sincerely care about the atmosphere, food&service they provide."

  • "The last several times we've gone to Jax our experience has been less than stellar. 2 outings, including the NYE dinner, were special occasions and the food and service were just okay. The portion size of the salmon was from the set meal was laughable, not even enough to feed a small child. Even for a multi-course meal, it was very small. A previous lobster dinner special also turned out to be tiny portions compared to the amount of money spent. NYE was of course very chaotic and busy and service was not what it could have been, however, for the money spent, we expected much more."

  • "We chose to eat at Jax Fish House during our recent trip to Boulder. It was very energetic and fun. Enjoyed the wine list. The main course dishes were received intensive preparation with a careful and pleasant presentation. Deserts were great. Portions were a little slim."

  • "My wife and I had an early dinner at Jax before going to the Boulder Phil concert. We had mixed opinions about our food. My wife started with the seafood chowder (excellent) and swordfish (okay) and I had calamari (good) and monkfish w/ramen noodles (excellent). We had a bottle of sauvignon blanc that matched well with both of our meals. My wife felt the swordfish was a bit dry and the sauce it was in had a flavor she found off-putting. Jax is extremely busy, especially during happy hour and the noise level is fairly high. Still, it's the "happy" noise of people having a good time. Jax offers the best fish options in Boulder and anyone in the mood for seafood is well advised to go to Jax."

  • "This place is a bar. While there are a few tables scattered around the bar, which takes up half the entire area, the general atmosphere is of a bar. Do not expect the ambience of a restaurant and if you're looking for a romantic spot, this is definitely not that place. As far as the overpriced food goes, it struck me as rather ordinary. I recommend the crab, which they can boil with the best of them. Just make sure you specifically ask for a King Crab leg, as opposed to a claw or you could find yourself berated by your server. My wife said the swordfish was good. I tasted a bite and it seemed overcooked to me. My brother had the $25, six inch lobster roll, which he seemed to enjoy."

We were placed so close to other people that it was like we were on a date with two other couples when there were other tables we could've been seated at. ETC. Just not a good experience, and if you're going to charge $55 per person, than it should be one heck of a meal! It was cold, and basic. Nothing extraordinary. We will not be back."

  • "Our experience started out great when we sat at the bar to wait for our table.We should have stayed there. The bar staff was great and very welcoming. Not even close to how our server made us feel. After we were sat, we waited 7 minutes before he came by and told us he'd be right with us. Three minutes later he came back to ask if we were ready to order. He did not ask if we'd been there before nor did offer any insight to the menu. We ordered the shrimp and steak options from the preset menu. And while the food was good, the portion size wouldn't have been enough to satisfy a small child. It's a shame because I heard some great things about Jax. Unfortunately they didn't reign true, we left unhappy and hungry."

Everything we ordered was amazing (Handsome Mark's breads & spreads, fried calamari, oysters, clam chowder, Jax crab trio, Maine lobster roll and Jax keylime pie). Yes I know...that's a lot of food for two people. But we loved every bite of it! Chef Krill is always doing cool, innovative and delicious stuff on the menu and we'll be back time and time again."

  • "My wife and I, and another couple, dined at Jax in Boulder on a recent Friday night. My wife and I had eaten there only once before - about five years ago - and were not all that impressed. However, this time was different. My wife had trout and I had swordfish. Both were excellent and we agree that we've been missing something by not frequenting Jax more often. The wine list might not be called "notable," but it was quite adequate and matched our entrées perfectly. Jax is noisy on Friday nights, especially in the bar area. It's a "happy" noise, but it does make it difficult to carry on a conversation if you are seated near by. There probably isn't much that can be done about this as it simply shows Jax's popularity with locals."

  • "When we booked this table on Open Table, there was no mention that there was only the pre-set menu available with a table reservation & when the restaurant called to confirm our reservation, this was not mentioned. We have eaten here once before & it garners very good reviews, but we found the pre-set menu to have much too exotic of combinations for our taste. The best thing was the dessert & the "Garden" salad. The monkfish special had such a small portion of the fish! It was a very expensive meal that we did not enjoy to the fullest."

We were greeted enthusiastically by the hostess, and seated promptly, Our waitress, Candace, was polite, engaged and helpful throughout the entire night, and always there when we needed her without hovering. We enjoyed our conversations with her immensely. The food was outstanding, as usual. The steelhead was perfectly cooked, and the lentils were outstanding--one of the best side dishes I have eaten. Our friend's ahi was perfected seared to a medium rare doneness, and I think he would have licked the plate if allowed. Once again, JAX proved itself to be the finest fish house in the area."

  • "My group was celebrating a pair of engagements. We had a reservation and were sat promptly after arriving. Our waiter seemed pretty busy so we didn't seem him too much, but, he was polite and helpful when ordering. The food and drink came out fairly quickly and was quite good. The chocolate cake was very good as well. Overall, we had a nice experience celebrating at Jax Fish House. A word of warning, the menu pricing is on the higher end for Boulder. That said, the quality and presentation of the various dishes did give the feeling that the money spent was mostly worth it. While the experience was good, this is a place we'll probably save for special occasions or happy hour."

  • "Jax is a wonderful restaurant - great deals on appetizers, oysters, drinks during happy hour and it's a bit more quiet then, too. It gets a little loud for us old folks later in the evening. The oysters are a really good deal - we always have them. Really everything we've had is lovely - perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. I like that they have nice cloth napkins. The wait staff is always quick and pleasant. It's all great - I like the decor, too."
