A word from Hy's Steak House - Waikiki
Hy's Steak House is an award winning restaurant in the heart of Waikiki. Open in 1976, Hy's has been a favorite of locals and visitors for 30 years.
Hy's specialties include Kiawe broiled USDA Prime Beef, succulent Lamb, great seafood as well as tableside preparations of many classic dishes. Hy's boasts an exquisite wine list with an emphasis on reds from the most reputable vineyards from around the world.
The ambience is Old-World, classic and very comfortable. Hy's is renown for its signature showcase steak broiler, where the steaks are expertly broiler over Kiawe wood. Kiawe is a Hawaiian hardwood that burns at a very high temperature and adds the perfect flavor to the broiled prime beef.
In Hy's library lounge there is live music nightly from 2 of Hawaii's top entertainers. Valet parking. Proper dress required.

  • "This was my 4th time. Each and every time we've dine at Hy', the food and service are excellent. I had filet mignon that was so tender it practically melts in the mouth. A tableside Caesar Salad has just the right amount of flavor and together the meat and salad are heaven on earth. My sincere recommendation is to go and enjoy this fabulous place!"

I have been coming to Hy's since the restaurant opened and it looks exactly the same but that is one of its charms.   • "Service was impeccable, everything each of us ordered was very ono (delicious)...the monchong w/butter sauce was absolutely tasty, which is what I had...my daughter & her boyfriend had garlic steak & said it was easy to cut, so tender...the pork chop was huge...our water never went low, the service from the valet to the restaurant & back out was superb! Only thing NO TANK TOPS allowed, so my daughter's boyfriend had to borrow a shirt they have on hand, my other daughter was a little cold, but they had shawls on hand as well :)"

  • "Old World ambience, dark leather, white table cloths, excellent service. We had oysters on the half shell from BC, a wonderful foie gras with apples and dates and our entre was perfectly done medium rare filet mignon with King crab meat and bernaise sauce on baby asparagus with the best baked potato. Our wine was a Riff pinot grigio. We were pleasantly suprised when on the way out we saw a chef grilling in a glass enclosure right in the middle of the restaurant. Pretty wild but a nice touch."

  • "We live on Maui and had dinner at Hy's to celebrate my birthday. Open Table should be aware that using your service they gave us a terrible table right next to the kitchen. The waiter was unfamiliar with the menu. We had to send my husband's New York back twice. He ordered it medium and it cam out literally cold the first time. When we finally tried it it was a bad piece of meat, barely edible with a foul taste. The manager was quick to offer to replace it with a filet not another New York - we're they out of New Yorks or did they knowingly serve us a bad steak?"

  • "Started with ahi katsu roll and the ahi was over-cooked and dry. Surprisingly the dish did not include katsu sauce. My wife had the fillet and the cut and preparation were very good. I ordered the steak oscar medium rare which according to the menu and the waiter was Filet Mignon. I was surprised and disappointed when my Filet was less than half inch thick, was over-cooked and was not tender like a prime cut of meat which you would expect for the $69 price. The house made cheesecake for dessert was small and pedestrian. While the service was attentive the servers were not responsive to questions and observations around food quality. I have enjoyed Hy's on many of my trips to Hawaii over the years but this visit was disappointing."

  • "Hy's was an incredible, unexpected delight. My partner had eaten at Hy's in the 1970s, and I had never been. It was the best meal ever. The service was impeccable and attentive without being obtrusive. The staff were observant and were quick to offer any service needed. The steak melted in your mouth -- almost literally. I had the Alaskan King Crab legs -- the sweetest, tenderest I have ever had. I cannot recommend Hy's highly enough. It is our new, favorite restaurant in Waikiki."

  • "Ambience is spectacularly charming (good touch with the antique books); service was sufficient; steak left much to be desired (over cooked and little seasoning, if any); cheese break was artery cloggingly greasy; wine is 3x expensive for low point wine; menu is ample; and desert was satisfactorily prepared. Not worth the exuberant price. Truly felt like no one special (like one would want to be treated at this place) and the whole visit was a miss."

Although we had to wait a few minutes for our table it was worth it. He had the prime rib and I had salmon, both with garlic mashed potatoes. The food was excellent and the service was superb.   • "Hy's takes you back to how restaurants used to be in the 70's-- but in a good way. Tableside service for salads and desserts, waitstaff in suits and complimentary cheese bread? Doesn't get much better than that. All joking aside, the newly remodeled dining areas are beautifully done, comfortable and the service is great. As the saying goes, "You get what you pay for." Hy's may be pricey but if you're celebrating something and have cause to be wined and dined, there are few restaurants on Oahu that come close to Hy's high standard."

  • "I'm so glad we found this place. The food is delicious, the decor is gracious, the service is superb, and the general experience is more than perfection. I felt like I was in The Oak Bar at The Plaza in New York City. The menu reminds me of '21.' Foie Gras, Oysters Rockefeller, shrimp cocktail, caviar, escargot.... I can't wait to go back and try another dish. We had the steak with holandaise/crab sauce and garlic mashed potatoes. OMG it was so delicious. The foie gras we had before dinner was a little over-cooked, but...a beautiful dish that satisfied anyway. These people really know how to run a restaurant."

  • "Having this restruant with a four star rating I would think that they HY's would not allow shorts for men, tennis shoes and non tuck in shirt to enter the restaurant. The food was great but the waiter did not lay the napkin on the lap of the customer. Again this is supposed to be a high end restaurant. On top of that the waiter was making fun of other waiter in front of the customer not a professional setting. The waiter has to set a high standards. I expected better from them and should not allow the economy to rule how or who should be allowed to enter the restaurant for dinner. For this very reason I am giving them a two star but four to five star for the steaks."

  • "We are an couple and traveled to Hawaii from Japan. We chose Hy's Steak House first time for our twelfth wedding anniversary which is very important year for us. We were impressed by the warm hospitality of the server and staffs. The meals were all excellent, especially the T-bone steak and the lobster bisque and the Hy's chef salad. We're glad for the cheese cake present from the restaurant. The interior decoration of the restaurant was so nice. Thank you very much for all services. We had a great memorable anniversary dinner at the last night of our staying in Hawaii."

  • "We took some friends to dinner before they relocated to Utah. We picked this restaurant because we know they will miss this eating here. The steaks were the best we've ever had. They were soft and melt in your mouth! The portions were large so we had some to take home and I look forward to steak for lunch. The service was excellent and attentive. The wait staff had a large party arrive and ask us to move to the lounge and treated us a round on the house. It night was perfect for the occassion with our friends."

The portions are correctly sized and well prepared. The valet parking makes it easy for those driving and it's in the middle of Waikiki on Kuhio St. If you are a meat lover, this is the best place in town."

They are regular visitors to Hawaii but had not discovered Hy's, and loved the flambé desserts... So, three days later, we had dinner for four... They are sophisticated travelers, and were not shy in their praise of Hy's and Audy Kimura! Thanks!"

  • "It was my best friend's birthday and we wanted to eat steak. From the moment we drove up and walked into Hy's, we were warmly welcomed. The waitstaff is excellent, very attentive. Although it is a little pricey here, the food is worth it and the atmosphere is friendly, not at all "stuffy" Started out with the smoked salmon and osetra caviar, heavenly. I love caviar and this is the place to get it. We followed with the Caesar salad for 2, which was prepared tableside, and then went on to our steaks. We ordered the Delmonico and the filet mignon. The steaks were melt in your mouth delicious. A bottle of champagne completed this perfect meal. They even gave us free dessert and a souvenir picture for each of us. Will come back often!"

  • "We still had a little bit left of our appetizer and waiter came by to check on us. As he left I heard him tell another that we were trying to finish our appetizer. He then came back to make some small talk but overall that small talk left us all feeling awkward (including the waiter). We got our main dish and seems like they kept on checking to see if we were done making us feel real uneasy and rushed. Desserts came out real quick, just as fast as our check. 6pm reservation out of there by 7:15pm cause we were rushed."

  • "I had reserved 2 tables because they couldn't fit my party into one. My friend and her family were late because of a traffic jam in Waikiki. The waiter asked us to give up one of the tables and they would move them upstairs because a disabled couple couldn't go up the stairs. Of course we said yes even though it meant we couldn't have dinner together. When my friend came in with her family, they informed her that we have given up her table. Like it was our fault and not the resraurant's request. We're frequent customers."
