Diner Reviews
  • "It's Loud and eating factory style. Wish it was more of a fine dining experience for the prices. Yes, prime rib was good, but too much meet for me."

  • "There is nothing modern about this place, but that doesn't mean it's bad. In fact, if you like prime rib, it is an absolute must visit. EXCELLENT food, from the tasty salad to start to the desserts at the end, but the star is of course the meat. So tender it basically melted in my mouth. Even the kids in our group liked it! The sides are either creamed corn or creamed spinach, mashed potatoes & gravy or a loaded baked potato, and a piece of yorkshire pudding. All good. Just hilarious that such an old-school place is still so popular (crowded & very lively atmosphere) - loved it!"

  • "I started checking for res 1 week in advance. The only opening was for 9:30p was to late for us.Found other place's that served also Prime Rib as the main dish, but I been to the restaurants before and then don't compare to the Quality of the House of Prime Rib. I decided we would now go American or Italian which was my second choice.I had no problem with 6:00p-7:30p for res.I called HOP to see if someone might have canceled and was told to keep looking at open table's web site for they would post any cancellation. Got lucky, day before going out ,was up 4:00 am and checked the Website and there was a opening at the perfect time 7:30p.Made the reservations and had a wonderful meal for our party of four."

  • "A last minute recommendation turned out to be fantastic. The restaurant is an example of spot on service and delicious food. Every element of the dinner was top notch. Our server, Sarah, was very attentive and made each course a presentation. You really felt special and appreciated that you were dining there. The prime rib carving at your table is amazing, the chef carving is dressed in a spotless white jacket and rolls out a stainless steel dirigible looking cart and inside is four prime ribs waiting on the chef to select and carve for you. If you finish your cut you are entitled to a complimentary extra cut. It was so good I finished mine and they brought another cut, oh my! I was so stuffed I could have rolled out the front door."

  • "This is your classic restaurant that everyone should experience. Prime rib is wonderful, melts in your mouth, the mashed potatoes and gravy are to die for. Save room for the desserts! Waiters are amazing! Very attentive. Great experience."

  • "Dinner with family at one of the kids's favorite beef joints...food and service was exceptional... A large group of East Asians were celebrating somebody's birthday at an adjacent and some of the women were inebriated and LOUD in their cackling... So much so the that the management had to subtly remind them to lower their voices...Not the first time I've experienced this... The restaurant must find a way to separate large parties from several smaller ones to let each group enjoy their evening..."

  • "First trip in 15 years and my wifes first ever and it did not let us down. Perfect from the hot bread to the cream brule. And the bar was great pre-dinner. I hope it does not take 15 years to return (from Denver) And tell me who still sings you happy birthday, how great!"

  • "Both of us are in our seventies, but we still LOVE celebrating our birthdays, which are a day apart. He chose the restaurant this time, not the first time we've been there. He brought an elegant bottle of wine for us and we had champagne cocktails before dinner. He ordered the largest cut, medium rare, and I ordered the smallest cut, well done. Both were served perfectly as ordered. We also had their famous salad, bread, corn, baked potatoes, and everything was first class, including the service. An extra treat was the Creme Brulee brought to us with two candles in it, and the waiters singing Happy Birthday!"

  • "House of Prime Rib sets the standard for a wonderful prime rib dinner with all the fixings in a class environment at a very reasonable price. We have been enjoying here with friends and family for years and have never been disappointed. Service and food are outstanding."

  • "Haven't been there in years. Took my boyfriend there for his birthday. Our waiter was great never had to ask for anything he was on top of everything. The only thing that had change was how young the crowd was. Very busy, good to get there a little earlier."

  • "My husband and I took my mother to House of Prime Rib for her birthday. We visit the restaurant about 4 times a year so we have received variations of service, all good, but Scott has set the bar very high! My mother kept commenting how Scott really was keeping it "old school" with his standard of service while still putting a modern spin on it by customizing the experience to our personalities. We had our 6 year old with us, and Scott treated him with kindness and respect, but kept it fun for him. We will deffinately request Scott on future visits as will my mother."

  • "The restraurtant was extremely loud so it was difficult to talk. We asked for a quiet table an were place next to several loud groups who were celebrating an yeallin gover large round tables. It was very annoying. Also the waiter prepared our sald without asking was we liked. he salte dit when we don't eat salt and drowned it in salad dressing which basically ruined it. The wait servcie should be asked to inquire about diners restrictions an like rather than serving it the way they like it. for the money I would go to Morton's instead. they know service!"

  • "While the food at House of Prime Rib is predictably good, the dining experience is chaotic. Half hour wait on a Thursday night with reservations, cramped table near two large tables of very, very loud people in a room with very poor acoustics. Tables too close together for any private conversation. Good for groups? Maybe, but not for two people trying to have a relaxed evening. Perhaps the fact that the restaurant used to seat 176 and now seats 260 in the same space has a lot to do with the feeling that one is dining in a busy cafeteria."

  • "We've been going to the House of Prime Rib for more than 60 years whenever we're in the city. Two to three times a year. Time has made some changes, but I suppose that's inevitable. The important thing is, the food hasn't changed. The salad is always a treat, and the creamed spinach is to die for. But I miss having them offer big scoops of whipped cream horseradish. (Now it comes in a little caddie on the table.) And it's gotten so popular that reservations are necessary. I made ours a month in advance. I recommend asking for a table in the back room where it's quiet. It's remarkable in that it is virtually unchanged for all this time. And the previous owner, Mr. Klein, who is about 150 years old, is still there, greeting customers."

  • "I haven't ate at the HOPR in a long time. We ate other places that had real good tasting prime rib and taught they would compare or be just as good to HOPR. I was wrong...HOPR is Still the #1 spot for prime rib!"

  • "Havnt been in close to 7 years and its just how i remember it, got the house cut and was cooked perfectly and just the right size paired with mash potatoes gravy, cream spinach with the touch of bacon and the warm fluffy bread that soaks up the juices all blended perfectly together topped off with some homemade tiramisu and a rasberry lemondrop i could barely walk out of the door! cant wait to go back!"

  • "We've dined here before and although the prime rib is consistently good here, our server was the worst I'd ever experienced in all my years of dining out! He was rude and inattentive; while he was preparing our potatoes another table called him over regarding an issue with their prime rib and he just left us and our potatoes. When he came back the potatoes were cold... he never checked with us, refilled our water and when it was time for dessert, I asked him 4 times for boxes for our left overs and twice for the dessert menu. He kept disappearing for long periods of time and when he returned, he wasn't very congenial. My husband ordered a coffee with our dessert and he never came back to give my husband his refill."

  • "House of Prime Rib has become a big touristy loud hipster place for a younger 30 something crowd. In order to accommodate more people, they crowd tables together with little space in between. In spite of all that, our waiter was a gem and we were seated quickly and we loved our meal especially the salad, the Yorkshire pudding and creamed spinach. The prime rib was our least favorite part of the meal! It was just okay. Harris's steakhouse does a better job in my opinion, plus it's a nicer, more quiet relaxing atmosphere. The drinks were also great at HOPR and the wait staff excellent. I like that both places, HOPR and Harris's, have valet parking!! A huge plus. Valet parking was cheaper than parking in a nearby garage for HOPR!"

  • " Had resevations for 9.30, arrived a little after 9 for a drink at the bar, waited 20 minuttes for the drink, and did not get to the table before 10.15. Pretty late, and before we had finishen the dinner, almost everbody else had left, and the staff were busy setting tablets for the next day and cleaning up. Had a great waiter and the food was as always very good. It was my husbonds birthday, and I made the reservations a month ago, but was not able to get an earlier dinner time"

  • "Energetic is not the word I would use for noise level! It is extremely loud in the restaurant which is too bad for a group of friends trying to visit! However, the food if you love prime rib is worth it!"

  • "The portions were generous, the prime rib was tender, juicy, and flavorful. The salad and sides of creamed spinach, baked potato, corn bread, and Yorkshire pudding included with dinner were also tasty. Our party of 3 had plenty of leftovers to have a full meal for each of us the following day. I ordered a vodka martini which arrived in the shaker--and filled 3 glasses, oh my! Our server was attentive, efficient and friendly."
