Diner Reviews
  • "This place delivers outstanding seafood as usual. Not your run-of-the-mill seafood house. It uses only exceptional products and it is prepared exceptionally without being overly eclectic. And the biscuits... what more needs to be said."

  • "It was a very well prepared and served meal with all the service we could ever expect."

  • "The menu was very eclectic with a wide variety of options and new things to try. We loved everything about this restaurant and will definitely go back when we visit NOLA again. The service was stellar. We also dined at Commander's Palace which was supposed to be far superior but it did not live up to its reputation. We wished we had known better and would have chosen this restaurant twice. GW's far exceeded our expectation. Highly recommend."

  • "We could not have asked for better meals and service! Our fish dinners (Jolt Snapper & Drum) were perfectly prepared and the waiter was very attentive. The lobster dumplings were light and tender, very tasty. The meals were delicious and beautifully presented. The manager was very pleasant and accommodating, giving us a window table with a view of the street, which added to our dinner entertainment. ; ) We MUST visit GW Fins during our next visit to NOLA! A fabulous experience!"

  • "Fantastic food, wonderful wait-staff, and the low noise level made for a great anniversary celebration."

  • "GW Fins has become my absolute favorite seafood restaurant in the city. My wife and I love their creative menus and wonderful wine list. This place is great for any size group, or for a couple nestled in a booth. Highly recommended."

  • "We were in New Orleans for the Essence Music Festival. Based on a friend’s suggestion, we decided to give GWF a try. Best decision ever. The warm buttermilk biscuits are a great way to start any meal. The lobster dumplings with the lobster butter sauce will all but melt in your mouth. The snapper is seasoned to perfection, complimented perfectly by the shrimp etouffee. The blackened swordfish creates a party in your mouth. Make sure you save room for dessert because the chocolate molten lava cake and the salty caramel ice cream pie are the perfect combination to send you into sensory overload. This meal was nothing short of amazing, and the service was impeccable. We enjoyed every minute of our dining experience!"

  • "GW Fins is a hidden gem in the french quarter. Knowledgeable and friendly service! Comfortable ambiance with a notable wine list. And to top it off GREAT food. Excellent meal from start to finish. Would definitely return."

  • "The lobster dumplings and rolls were outstanding. That was just a preface to a delicious meal. The price were fairly reasonable (including the wine) when compared to my hometown Vancouver BC."

  • "We arrived in a frazzle after a nightmare traffic tie up due to the Essence Fest. We were 30 min. late, but they calmed us down and sat as a a wonderful table with a very friendly and helpful server. Drinks - Strong but well prepared. Excellent Cosmo Martini - husband had a speciality sweet drink which was divine. Food/appetizers- SOFT SHELL CRAB! you got to have it... Skip the Lobster Ravilolli (different name but same thing - it was ok) ENTREE: Drum - white fish (good9 Snapper - Outstanding large portion - yummy sause with seafood around it Filet - perfect ! Was smooth and perfectly prepared. Daughter savored every bite. Dessert: Creme Brûlée - large portion - took the rest home ... Heavenly. Service: Up beat & friendly."

  • "After being very excited to try this restaurant due to many recommendations from friends and coworkers, I must say I was slightly dissappointed. I think due more to my heightened expectations than anything else. The food was excellent as was the service. The tables were very appropriately spaced unlike some resturants downtown that make you feel like you are dining with strangers. Would definitely return, although not a place to be frequented weekly if only because of the price."

  • "Great Bar with limited seating and will serve full menu. Great wine list. Fish prepared nicely, but a bit over priced. Noise level low enough to hold conversations."

  • "I dined at GW Fins alone while on a business trip in New Orleans. I was concerned that I might be seated in a dark corner but was instead taken at a very nice table near the center of the dining room and received outstanding service. The quality and presentation of the food was simply amazing!"

  • "My wife and I had an anniversary dinner here. Food, service, atmosphere, basically everything was fantastic. I only wish I could afford to eat here more often. Everyone was going beyond our expectations to provide the best possible experience. This restaurant receives our highest recommendation. Brandon set a new bar for service. The food speaks for itself. Mere words cannot describe how good this food is. Thanks to the staff for a great evening!"

  • "This was my first time visiting New Irleans . All of the food that I have eaten here, has been great . The food here at GW Finn was well prepared, Fresh and as good or better than what I have eaten in New Orleans so far. This is one of the Gems here in the French Quarter"

  • "Food was creative & innovative. Lovely decor & ambience. Server was overloaded so service was just below average. The other issue we had was we purposely got there early to have a cocktail at the bar (called 1st to ensure they had a full bar). When 2 barstools finally opened we sat to be notified by the bartender that the seats were reserved for people eating at the bar. He blamed the hostess. Shortly 1 stool opened & he let us have it, apologized & again blamed the hostess (not his choice), bought us a drink - but left us with a bad taste in starting our evening. Overall, would definitely go back for dinner as food was amazing!"

  • "Thought I wish I could have shared by experience with other close friends or family, I will not pass up another chance to go to GW Fins. Food was great and while there were many groups of diners, I felt OK there eating solo."

  • "Ate here on our 35th wedding anniversary. Jason, our waiter, was very attentive and the food was delicious. We had lobster dumplings for starters and as entrees, hubby had salmon and I had the Scalibut. Both meals were delicious. We shared a bread pudding for dessert and that literally melted in my mouth."

  • "Nothing bad to say about this place. Our food was amazing and the service was impeccable. I wanted to come here every night I was visiting for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! The Parmesan Crusted Drum was out of this world and the biscuits were to die for!"

  • "GW Fins is one of my favorite restaurants. Each time I've gone I had a good experience. In addition to the food always being excellent, the service is great. We were treated as if we were guests in someone's home. Of course, the biscuits are mouth-watering and the apple pie a la mode was delicious and enough to be shared by three of us. I went there for my birthday once and was impressed by the customized menu with my name on it. What a surprising, special treat. I highly recommend GW Fins."

  • "Now we see why GW Fins has the #1 spot in New Orleans. It was wonderful! You cannot go wrong on the menu! Try the salted caramel ice cream pie----absolutely delicious."

  • "This is not your typical New Orleans restaurant. Seafood is always fresh in New Orleans, that is what it is known for. GW Fins just takes it to another level with innovative dishes that are superb. Much lighter fare than your typical N.O. seafood places. Well worth trying and I am sure you will go back many times like I do!"

  • "I love GW Fins. I have been many times and will be back!"

  • "This is an all around lovely place. The service is attentive without smothering. The food is wonderful. Our only complaint would be the noise coming from the bar. Although it may have been an anomaly... a world cup game was on the television and the bar occupants were very enthusiastic. The possibility of noise certainly wouldn't keep us from going back."

  • "We celibrated our aniversary there and weren't disapointed. Service, Food and Evening were all without flaw. They wen't beyond expectations."

  • "Lovely restaurant--similar to what we would find in a Dallas 5- star. Service was not quite up to par, as a special request for a shrimp cocktail appetizer caused a distraught look on our waiter's face. But no worries, the chefs met the request with a wonderful cocktail sauce that they supposedly had to make themselves. Just not a "New Orleans" or southern-experience restaurant. Also, despite a beautiful setting and atmosphere, the dress of the other diners was a bit casual (especially compared to Commander's Palace), even though there is a dress code."

  • "Food was good but not amazing! Waiter was stuffy and arrogant. The whole restaurant seems to think an awful lot of themselves!! Not sure our experience lived up to all they think they are !!!"

  • "Everything about this meal, the service, the restaurant, the drinks was simply amazing. We use Open Table a lot and go for the highest rated restaurants whenever we can get a seat. This one is top on the list of our latest NOLA trip."

  • "Our experience at GWEN Fins hard to describe in words. We had an extraordinary server, Ryan. He was knowledgeable and very down to earth. The staff went out of their way to ensure a pleasant dining experience. Our 13-month old accompanied us, and they sat us near a large window so she could enjoy the view. We had the lobster dumplings, scaling, and tripletail---all delicious!!! We finished with the molten lava cake w/ ice cream. We will definitely return the next time we visit the city."

  • "I am a devoted foodie basing travel around good food. This restaurant hit it on all levels, attentive service, good drinks and excellent food the lobster dumpling were delicious . There were three of us dining and all agreed there was not a disappointing bite all evening. Do not miss the ice cream pie with pretzel crust. I am not an ice cream connoisseur but this pie was stellar; it was salty sweet perfection. We ate well for three days in New Orleans and this pie topped all other desserts."

  • "GW Fins is a must. We had already eaten for three days at other wonderful restaurants but this was above all the others in flavor, presentation, and friendliness! We had swordfish and salmon.... Yum!"

  • "Enjoyed a fantastic group dinner together with colleagues while attending a conference in New Orleans. The food was full of flavor and freshly prepared. We enjoyed fish while my vegetarian boss enjoyed a dish specially prepared by the chef which made it even more special because she usually has limited choices. The homemade biscuits melt in your mouth! GW Fins is fine dining but not overly formal. It is located around the corner to Bourbon St so it was fun to wandered into various venues after dinner together. We'd all go back again the next time we're here."

  • "Bar none the best restaurant in New Orleans. After being a resident for five years I can confidently assert myself well-traveled in the New Orleans restaurant scene, and my standards are pretty high. GW Fins exceeds my expectations each and every visit."
