GW FinsAmazing! Was so please with the entire meal start to finish and had great service. Would definitely return in the future.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMmineSeafood selection was fantastic. The waiter was excellent. The food was spectacular, All together a fine dining experience..5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved it!My husband and I had nothing but positive things to say about this restaurant. The food was fantastic! We will be back, and we highly recommend it.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful dining experienceWonderful dining experience 5 Stars. Liked it so much that we canceled our reservation at another very famous NO restaurant and returned to Fins!!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Experience!Super food! Super Location! Super Service! Special Kudos to our waiter Marlon! WE FELT LIKE WE WERE HIS ONLY TABLE!!!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBest seafood restaurant in NOLAFantastic dining experience in every way. The menu choices are varied and interesting but most of all delicious. Many gulf fish dishes to choose from. Though steps from Bourbon St., this is NOT part of that seedy scene. Quite upscale and with great service. Of three days of dining all over NOLA, this was our favorite and most memorable experience.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe overall experience wasThe overall experience was incredible...we will definately make this one of our regular stops. Service was very good but could have done a better job replenishing and properly placing the silverware as well as removing empty glasses from the table.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect! Our visit to GW Fins was excellent! We had the lobster dumplings and soft shell crab for appetizers and both lived up to their billing. Then we had the Scalibut and Redfish on Crawfish Etoufe (sp?), which were also excellent. We even saved room for desert and enjoyed the apple pie and bread pudding. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was great, and the decor was unique. I may have had a better meal, but I just can't remember when!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMExquisite experienceThe absolute best seafood I've ever eaten. Every recipe is innovative, sometimes even genius combining unusual ingredients into a taste so exquisite, one could cry. Every bite was savored, and it was almost sad to clean the plate. I never wanted the meal to end.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMNew Orleans fine diningAnother great restaurant of New Orleans. Great food and service. Roomy and comfortable seating without worries of hearing your neighbors conversations. Fresh seafood with a seasonal menu that's printed on a regular basis depending on the freshness of the fish. I didnt give it 5 star because i found the menu to be limited in creativity. I loved the compressed watermelon and pork belly and would have loved to see more creative dishes of such. Maybe I'm just a tough critic and used to NYC dining scene. The men dress code does makes the place that much more elegant. Reasonably price for seafood. Definitely worth the visit.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Restaurant in New OrleansG W Fins is the best restaurant in NO! The food is outstanding! The staff is the best trained, friendliest, most professional I have seen anywhere. The ambiance is great. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. We were made to feel welcome the moment we walked in the door and where greeted by name by a manager and our waiter. Our waiter, Jason, also immediately offered birthday greetings to our celebrant. Jason was a superior waiter, assisted by professional backup. The lobster dumplings were sublime and the crab pot stickers excellent. We both had the tempora red fish. It was a whole fish served tempora style. The skin was had a delicious flavor and the fish was sweet inside. Dessert was great, apple pie and salty carmel cake. Bravo!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Service and Great FoodMy husband and I chose GW Fins based on reviews found on TripAdvisor and Yelp for our recent trip to NOLA. I am so glad we went there! We stayed in the French Quarter so it was in walking distance - a great bonus. Even though there were several folks waiting for tables when we arrived about 10 minutes early for our reservation we were seated within a minute or two (I was told that the folks waiting were walk-ins). The wait staff was incredible... our waiter was VERY knowledgable about the food and made excellent suggestions for appetizers, salads and entrees. The food was wonderful and their menu is great for seafood lovers - many non-traditional items. I only wish we had stayed longer so I could have gone back to try more of their menu!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMSeafood PerfectionEverything works. Excellently prepared seafood. Good waitstaff and a nice ambiance. Best meal in New Orleans!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent fish restaurant!!Excellent fish restaurant!! Menu changes everyday!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGREAT DINING EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!!GW Fins may now be my favorite all-time restaurant. Either we got lucky and just hit everything right on a Tuesday evening, or this is one fantastic restaurant. Got even more fortunate with our server Jason and his support. He was down to earth yet consummately professional, offering helpful advice on the menu. Our appetizers were both excellent: Sizzling Oysters and Wood Grilled Gulf Shrimp. My wife was very happy with her Wood Grilled Sea Scallops entree (quite different than the aforementioned shrimp appetizer, as per Jason). And, I had the Scalibut -- which is now my favorite all-time restaurant dish. Topped it all off with a truly oustanding take on bread pudding. No way to describe it other than a great dining experience.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat findThe meal we had at Finns was fantastic!
The salads were fresh and creative, the oysters
Are not to be missed, the scalibut was simply amazing5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMHappy 50th Birthday to me!GW Fins was better than I imagined from start to finish. There was glitter on the table and a personalized menu waiting for me at my table in honor of my birthday. I eat oysters about once every five years in order to diminish the possibility of being disappointed (I am an oyster snob). I was NOT disappointed!. The other three in my party, non oyster lovers, loved them as well. The lobster dumplings were as wonderful as I had read about. We all enjoyed our entrees, mine was the scalibut, a GW Fins original. Finally, we had the molton lava cake and the apple pie. I used to think I make the best apple pie I have ever tasted; now I know that this is not true. I absolutely will come back on our next trip to New Orleans.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and serviceReputation is well deserved. Tabitha, our waitress carefully reviewed what foods we could eat because of our food allergies. She made recommendations regarding the wine which we loved. Her service was attentive and outstanding. We loved the pork chop and the Scalibut. We can't wait to come there again.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Experience!!We had a great dinner! Potstickers were an amazing first course. The waitstaff was friendly and competent. Overall a memorable experience.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent food, excellentexcellent food, excellent ambiance, excellent all around5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent seafoodFine selection, preparation and presentation of a wide variety of seafood. Nice ambience , good service, overall very enjoyable5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat fisheverything was perfect. A great place for seafood lovers. get the sizzling oyster appetizer, three hours free parking in a valet gargae is nice too considering it's in the quarter5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome! This was our first to Fins. We frequent New Orleans and have eaten in most of the high end restaurants in town. This was our best meal of this trip and in recent memory. The gumbo was excellent. My wife had the Drum and I had the blackened Sword Fish. Both dishes were great. The SwordFish may have been the best I have ever had. I would (and already have) recommend GW Fins to anyone looking for a great seafood mean in the quarter.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMReally good New Orleans foodThis was a wonderful dinner. I highly recommend you book in advance, but you cannot miss with this one5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for fishI liked this place! The service was very good - friendly and helpful, but not stuffy. The food was very good, but not the best that I've had.
I really enjoyed the chargrilled oysters and the blackened swordfish. The spaghetti squash was sweet but undercooked.
It was my birthday, and they decorated the table, gave me a personalized menu with the date on it and gave me a dessert on the house.
I was happy with this place overall and would return when I'm in the area.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMNew menu everyday but if theyNew menu everyday but if they have soft shell crab appetizer don't pass it up! Endless hot biscuits. Great wine list. Varied seafood everything we had was outstanding and lovely place with attentive service5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was delicious. OneThe food was delicious. One of our party was given the wrong entree due to an error by the waiter. However, after flagging down a manager--our waiter was nowhere to be seen at that point--the manager told us to keep the wrong entree and the other would be rushed. He kept his word and the right entree was served about 5 minutes later. Overall, the wine was very good and the fish excellent. The salty malty ice cream pie was quite delicious. Ambiance was nice, although nothing out of the ordinary. While the price was high, it was not off the scale for the type of food.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Find!!After searching for many hours to choose just the right place for a special dinner, GW Fins did not disappoint. The food was excellent, the service top notch, and the setting was just right, With so many average dining options in New Orleans, it was refreshing to find this gem of a restaurant.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMahhhhmazing! all thumbs up! =)Best fish dishes !!! and dessert is crazy good!!! As a new yorker who loves clean and tasty food! this place hit the spot ! its a great restaurant... great staff ! they also gave us free dessert (esp the caramel ice cream cake!!!) and very thoughtful that they decorated the table for my bday! WIll definitely go back when we visit New Orleans!5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic!Best meal of the week! We were in town for a business convention and dined here based on a recommendation from a former local. I have to say this was the best food we had. New Orleans has great restaurants with fantastic food but we all agreed this was our favorite! You will not be disappointed!5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved it -- Love the factLoved it -- Love the fact that there is a new menu daily and everything is very fresh! Must try the smoked sizzling oysters and the Lobster Dumplings. I don't think there is anything bad on their menu!5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved it!Best seafood in New Orleans. Had the drum and it was outstanding. Have dined here a number of times and the experience is consistently outstanding.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service!Really enjoyed my meal at GW Fins. Not only did the food live up to its reputation but the service was really outstanding - genuinely friendly and efficient.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect anniversary dinner! My husband and I traveled to New Orleans from Lake Charles for a quick getaway from the kids for our anniversary. We made reservations through Open Table for 9:15 but we arrived about an hour early as we planned on having a few drinks in the bar first. (They have a great wine list!) Our table was ready about 15 minutes before our reservation time, so that was nice. When we were seated our table had been decorated with confetti and our own personalized keepsake menu in honor of our anniversary. A small touch that really went a long way in making our night extra special! Everything we ordered was amazing and Jeff, our waiter, was great! Definitely a place we would go back to, but probably just for a special occasion.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food at GW Fins was fantastic! The food at GW Fins was fantastic! We live on the Gulf Coast and eat seafood several times a week. And this was the best meal we had in New Orleans. We are already planning a return trip to New Orleans just to eat at GW. The softshell crab and biscuits alone are worth the drive back to the city!!!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMbest seafood we have had inbest seafood we have had in along time. pleasant atmosphere great staff and service4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious dinner, startingDelicious dinner, starting with tuna tartar, and then proceeding to the sauteed grouper with sweet potato hash. My dinner companion had the parmesan crusted drum, and raved about it. Only disappointment was the hot apple tart; crust was a bit too thick and dry.
Wine was tasty, and reasonably priced at about $40 for the bottle.
Service was exceptional, and the buttermilk biscuits were light and flaky.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic seafoodIf you love fresh fish, you can't go wrong here. We started with the smoked sizzling oysters and lobster dumplings. Both are signature dishes and for a reason - simply delicious! The oysters tasted like bacon. We've never had dumplings so light. Next was the Parmesan Drum and the Scalibut. Both were perfectly prepared, light, flaky and tasty - if slightly under seasoned for my liking. Service was top-notch. We didn't have room for dessert - too many biscuits!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMLosing that top notch?Just three of us for dinner. It is sad how many places these days start with a host/ hostess who seems to treat those who show up on time for a reservation as a nuisance to be managed rather than a welcomed guest. Starts the evening wrong - someone might talk to this hostess and remind her to smile? The waiter was prompt and very ready to serve so that was great. The choices we had - were all interesting - but I'm not certain they were as delicious as they were interesting. I've been here now three times - might not hurry back...4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMwe love this place and makewe love this place and make sure to stop in every time we are in New Orleans. Be sure to try the mashed sweet potatoes.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMMontreal visitorsThe food was exceptional. We weren't very hungry so we only ordered 2 appetisers and shared a main. Focus was on bringing out the flavour in the best of ingredients, and not dominating with sauces or spicing. We promtly rebooked for our only other night available. In a city of amazing food options this stood out.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't miss it!!OUTSTANDNG!!!!!! My friend had the sizzling oysters which were FABULOUS as was the soft shell crab. I had never eated Sheepshead before. Infact, I always threw it back. It's a trash fish, but only because its a pain to clean. It was delicious and I will eat it again. Our waiter, Jason, suggested a chocolate martini for dessert....yumm-y-lish!!! I'm coming back to New Orleans next spring and I will make reservations to eat at GW Fins! Won't miss it!!!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMMy birthday was made extraMy birthday was made extra special by G. W. Fins and staff. The service, food and wine were excellent.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMUnbelievable food. Great service.Unbelievable food. Great service. All and all it was a nice business dinner.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat seafoodJW Fins knows how to do great seafood and fish. My wood grilled oysters were perfectly served sizzling on a bed of rock salt. I recommend the "scalibut' with scallops seared atop a halibut filet. Service was brisk and professional. Atmosphere was energetic Make reservations, as restaurant is quite popular.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent service, excellentExcellent service, excellent food. Beautiful resturant!
Great New Orleans flare and new orlrans seafood!!
Great wine list !4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMI wanted our last night inI wanted our last night in New Orleans to end with a spectacular meal and delightful experience, and GW Fins delivered beyond our expectations. It was a great sign that after stopping for a pre-dinner cocktail at Hermes the bartender told us how he had known the owner for years, what a great restaurant it was and how they get all their seafood airlifted in every day so it was the best in town.
The bartender was right. The fried lobster tail with slaw appetizer was perfection, and the blue crab potstickers were a delicious new twist. Then we split the blackened swordfish with fried shrimp - freshest I've ever eaten. Finished with heavenly apple pie. Best meal in the Big Easy.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, came highlyExcellent food, came highly recommended to us by 3 different bartenders in New Orleans4/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
