  • "Glad we had a reservation! The restaurant was crowded and loud (Saturday Brunch, what can you expect). I was not terribly impressed with what I ordered. I ordered the Turkey scramble and thought it was overcooked and the potatoes were under-seasoned. Perhaps it would have been better if we chose a less busy time to visit...we probably won't be back though. The price did not really match what we received"

  • "Great Maple was a treat -- it always is. We love the food, we love the servers, we love the look. We've had breakfasts, lunches and dinners here, but this is the first time we came on the early side of an evening - our mistake I guess. Arriving at 6:45, the room was busy but not packed. We noticed that 5 tables had at least one child present. Not a deal breaker - we had kids once, and it was always fine. It was always fine because we expected our children to behave. One table of 4 adults and 6 kids by the back wall was holding the entire place hostage -- only one woman was paying attention to those awful kids who cried, stomped, yelled, and screeched for the entire time we had our meal. GM servers were appalled but helpless."

  • "The service was agonizingly slow. We waited 30 minutes for drinks and an hour and a half for the food. However, the food was outstanding. Unfortunately they forgot to put down that their pesto sauce was actually a peanut pesto sauce. I ate so much of that past so fast that my peanut allergy didn't flare up until it was far too late. I ended up in the ER and the whole night pretty much sucked. I later found out that even after all of that they didn't comp anything but the pasta. So if you want to wait 2 hours for good food and you don't have a peanut allergy this is the place for you. To be fair though I have to say that had we been a party smaller than 7 people the service probably would have been fine."

  • "I really like Great Maple. The staff, environment, feel, are all great. Last time I was here the food was great, this time, the food was just pretty good. My girlfriend had the burger, which is probably one of the better burgers in San Diego, which is a tall order. Main entrees are a little pricey, so it's a once-in-a-while sort of place, but highly recommend."

  • "While visiting San Diego I wanted a good brunch and Great Maple did not disappoint. Started with the Table side powered sugar beignets with English lemon curd which was divine. For my main I went with the breakfast flatbread with Prosciutto Di Parma, Two Poached Eggs, Truffle Oil and Market Onion which was amazing. Service was great would definitely recommend it for brunch."

  • "Mussels, steak salad, vegetarian portobello,mushroom sandwich with other goodies, and the turkey burger and fries were all excellent. Wine was good.( we brought it and were only charged a $10.00 corkage fee). The silk pie was the only disappointment. It was good, but not melt in your mouth good. The noise level was manageable. The four us were able to hold a conversation without continually asking people to repeat what they said. I would definitely recommend it for well prepared food and the pleasant, comfortable, atmosphere."

  • "Very popular with the locals. My wife is a professional chef who noted that many of her local colleagues often eat here. Reason: Is the quality of the food. The service staff is impeccably trained and naturally friendly people. If you are doing an important business meeting, you will find the noise levels not conducive for clear understanding. This is a great little restaurant to bring an out of town guest. Bravo!!"

  • "This is our second time to Great Maple and it was better than the first and we had two toddlers with us this time. The food was delicious especially the donuts and beignets! I had a pork belly sandwich, we also had the portobello fries and the quiche of the day - all of which were DELICIOUS! I highly recommend this place!"

  • "From the outside it doesn't look like a nice place, it actually looks like a diner (it was previously a diner). Don't judge a book by its cover! It was a Saturday night, but we were greeted right away. The room was packed. Some were families, some were couples on a date and there were also groups of friends. It was a relaxed vibe. A server accidentally dropped and broke some glass near us. Normally it would've been awkward and annoying, but the entire room clapped and cheered mocking her, but she just bowed like she was on stage. It was funny and cute. It just showed how cool the place was. Oh the food; I had the pork chop. There was a sweetness to it that I enjoyed. My friend kept raving about her seabass. Have the bacon doughnuts!"

  • "Second visit- Came here for an early in the day Father's Day dinner with another couple and a 1 year old, and though she got a little ancy the table behind us was much louder with laughter and speaking. Everything we ordered was fantastic. Out waiter was a little...strange. Started out by complaining "I'll be fine when it's all over" whatever that means, also made some weird 'jokes' and dry humor. But the Italian torpedo, maple glaze donuts with bacon, was the most amazing thing ever."

  • "My husband and I had previously experienced brunch at Great Maple, which we liked, but not dinner. This time I went for dinner with my girlfriends and we really enjoyed it! The food was very good, we had a great bottle of wine, and our server was wonderful, making it a very enjoyable experience. I had the Rainbow Trout, one of my friends had the Free Range Chicken, and the other had the Seared Scallops. All 3 meals were great. Our server, who was very enjoyable to talk with, gave us suggestions for the whole meal. For dessert which we wanted to share, we picked the Chocolate Truffle Cake and he advised us to have it a la mode. It was a huge piece of cake, with a large scoop of ice cream and whip cream, a perfect dessert to share. Yum!"

The food is always consistently great, and the Maple Bacon donuts are always a delicious way to start the experience. I haven't been disappointed with anything I've ordered and the staff is pretty good about being attentive even though it is a very popular place to brunch even on weekdays. Keep this up and you keep me going back!"

  • "I ordered the prime rib special and was so disappointed. The meat was tough (and my steak knife was dull). Everyone else's food was great but our server didn't stop back so I could tell him. Then, after our meal we waited quite a long time for him to come back so we could see the dessert menu. After we asked for the menu he made three trips clearing plates before he actually gave it to us. I like a leisurely pace for dinner but this was ridiculous. Other staff were leaving and even though a few tables nearby had just been served their main course I kinda got a vibe that ordering dessert was keeping someone too long."

I had the apple pie that has gotten such rave reviews. It was good, not the best ever, but good. Thought it was a nice touch that a complimentary glass of champagne was given to the entire restaurant to toast in the weekend."

  • "I found this restaurant to have a beautiful large menu of some very creative items to enjoy. I would say that it truly has something for everyone. The only issue I took from the experience is that this restaurant, in an attempt to be a fine dining experience based on their prices, failed miserably. I found this place to be extremely loud with all hard surfaces and on top it, they were adamant about playing club-style music. It is loud enough with their open-kitchen, bar area and patrons all in close quarters. When asked if the music could be turned down, we were told no but we could sit outside instead. Not really the answer I expected."

  • "We read the reviews and decided to check it out. We started with the popovers -- served warm and prepared at the table. Next was the creamy polenta with prosciutto served in a small metal pot -- a compromise appetizer choice that turned out to be the hit of the meal. She had the sea bass over a very creamy and tasty risotto while I opted for the sea scallops (recommended by the waitress and definitely worthy of the recommendation). We finished with the warm apple pie and ice cream. The whole place channels Twin Peaks somehow -- from the waitresses with their black-rimmed glasses to the diner-like feel of the inside and the lodge-like exterior. Recommend sitting outside as the inside can get a bit noisy."

  • "A large and varied brunch menu, and the food was terrific, with large (and tasty) portions! It can get crowded and a bit noisy, so reservations are vital. Walking is also recommended, if you're close enough, as parking can be at a premium, especially Sunday during the Hillcrest Farmers' Market. Friendly and attentive staff. Our favorite place in the neighborhood!"
