A word from Etoile Cuisine Et Bar
The owners of Étoile Cuisine et Bar, Chef Philippe Verpiand and Monica Bui, have created an inviting, warm European environment where both traditional and seasonal French food are front and center. "We want to dispel the notion that French food is heavy and pretentious," says the team, recently transplanted to Houston from San Diego, where they owned the famed Cavaillon Restaurant. Everything about Étoile Cuisine et Bar, from the inviting outside facade to the intriguing interior design to the high quality service, is meant to convey a feeling of truly being in France. With Chef Philippe's take on a seasonal menu using a French technique, it's a place where fine food lovers come together, not on a special occasion, but to enjoy every day.

  • "My wife lived in France for two years so we thought we would give it a try. The restaurant had a delightful ambiance. It was our 19th anniversary. What a surprise! Dede our waiter was perfect. He also had a great sense of humor as well which we thoroughly enjoyed. They have an excellence wine list. We had two incredible appetizers, Foie Gras Poêlé & Escargots Bourguignonne! WOW! The bread homemade, fresh, served with a very tasty butter. For entrees we ordered Plat de Côtes de Boeuf Braisés & Coquilles Saint-Jacques aux Lentilles. Absolutely delicious! For dessert we enjoyed Profiteroles & Pistachio Napoleon. It was a beautiful night. We will definitely be going back. Thank you Dede and Etoile!! It's our secret. :)"

  • "I googled 'Most Romantic Dinner Spots Houston' and Etoile was rated number one...for a reason. I took my boyfriend for his birthday after he had been talking about how he's been craving duck. The duck was out of this world, and needless to say he had a great birthday. I made a note on my online reservation that it was his birthday, and they presented him with a decorated plate, dessert, and a candle. Nice touch. The ambiance was very romantic, intimate, and exactly what I was hoping for. Out service was outstanding too. We will definitely be adding this to our list of special occasion restaurants."

She ordered moules and was disappointed that the mussels were so big that she had to cut them with her knife. I think she wishes that they were more petite. We split the apple tart with the exquisite French vanilla ice cream and she was ecstatic! I had the crab and avocado salad and the cold asparagus soup and I really liked it. We did not have wine, but your wine list has vastly improved."

Got there early just to remind them again to bring out dessert with candle. They forgot because it got busy! I wasn't happy about it because it kind of ruined the birthday celebration ambiance, but it is what it is. The manager did say they'll give me a free dessert on my next visit. Had the five course tasting menu and it was really good!"

I had the salmon dish 6/17/2014, expecting it to be rather simple and bland compared to many other dishes I've had there. Surprise! It was the most perfectly cooked, delectable piece of salmon I've ever had. Just the right amount of sauce....so delicious. I also appreciate the carefully selected French wine list they have at this restaurant. Keep up the good work Etoile!"

  • "There was good and ok things about all of our meals. I ordered the crab and avocado starter. There wasn't much crab on it and the puree of avocado was ok. It was extremely lemony, so much so that I couldn't taste anything else. There was a tomato sauce under it that was to die for, but you couldn't taste it due to the overpowering lemon taste. Same thing on my friends lobster and risotto. Lobster great! She couldn't eat the risotto because it was extremely lemony tasting. The couscous under the snapper was superb, the snapper cooked to perfection, but the snapper itself was somewhat tasteless. For the price, not that outstanding, but good food with slightly pretentious wait staff."

All were superb, as were the desserts (actually, they were off scale). The portions were OK. Service was attentive but not intrusive. My only complaint: the tables were so close together that we could not comfortably hold a private conversation. While I understand that crowding tables together is the French style, this isn't France."
