Diner Reviews
  • "So happy that this restaurant is in La Jolla. My husband and I are happy to drive the 40 miles from our home in Carlsbad, monthly. Everything about this restaurant is top notch. When dining here we have the feeling of being in one of the best restaurants in any big city, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, or San Francisco. Pure elegance, food, service, ambiance. If you are looking for a wonderful fine dining experience you must give them a try. Luv, luv, luv Eddie V's"

  • "Our table was higher so we could see the sea, but where we were sitting was to high"

  • "We have been there a number of times before. This was a very good experience as well. Danielle is the best server ever. She makes the whole experience even better by making us feel at home. The food is excellent, healthy and tasty. WIll go back again for sure."

  • "Food was mediocre at best. Patronizing, smarmy attitude was off-putting, to say the least. Expensive."

  • "You wont regret a visit to Eddie V's, but your pocketbook might. That said, the service (most outstanding), food, and the general experience will be worth the cost of admission. Do try the crab fried rice and the truffle mac-n-cheese! My wife had the pan seared Pacific Ahi which was superb, the scallops that my son had were delicious, and I had the Alaska halibut, which was very nicely prepared with a bed of greens. We also had the bananas foster desert and that was worth the entire visit! And, the view over La Jolla out towards the Torrey Pines area was spectacular, but situated so that they don't get the full sunset. A visit to the lounge after dinner for the Jazz is a good end to an evening."

  • "I really like the clean, contemporary vibe in this restaurant, and the food has always been good. The fresh oysters and crab cake appetizers were excellent, and the salds very fresh and crisp. One at our table ordered the grilled filet medallions, which were very good, and another had a fresh fish of the day which was also outstanding. My only criticism of this restaurant is that the kitchen seemed to be very, very slow. We waited more than an hour between our appetizers and main courses, and this on a Wednesday night when it was busy, but not full. The service was attentive, but not great. There seemed to be long stretches of time when our waiter was nowhere to be found."

  • "Went here to celebrate or Anniversary. Made the reservation and let them know it is our anniversary and we wanted all the perfect touches. Nice view, romantic, intimate, etc. Upon arrival, the staff was very attentive and much to our great surprise, the table was overlooking the water with candles and rose petals on the table top. Very elegant and thoughtful. We also received an anniversary card from the staff. All of the food was amazing and flavorful. Our server "Cannen" was a great balance of friendly knowledgeable and attentive yet not intrusive. We will come again!"

  • "Eddie V's has become our favorite restaurant in San Diego. Spectacular views over La Jolla Shores. The Crabcake is probably the best I have ever had and Steamed Hong Kong sea bass let's you know the fish is as fresh as can be."

  • "Thank you for adding superb service and wishes to our dinner celebration. We will continue to enjoy Eddie V's for special occasions and fine dining with friends, no better place on the La Jolla coast."

  • "My husband and I went here on our 10th anniversary. The location is beautiful, overlooking the ocean and the San Diego skyline; even from the tables not next to the window you can still enjoy the view. The service was outstanding— they set up our table with rose petals for our special occasion. My husband had the filet and absolutely loved it. I had the Sea Bass and it was delicious! We even enjoyed the hot chocolate cake for dessert which was wonderful and rich—perfect to share."

  • "I have been to this restaurant many times. This time was as good as all the previous times. We didn't get our favorite server Danielle even though I asked for her in the special message but the new server was equally competent. They somehow kept records of our favorite cocktails and wine selections. Makes you feel very special when they know what you are going to order ahead of time. Nice touch. Our seat was great too. It was mom and dad's anniversary and they got a complimentary dessert as well. Everyone left very happy."

  • "We brought my 85 year old mom here for a delicious dinner and that it was...Paul our server was great!!! He looked and spoke directly to my mom who is totally with it. Often when someone sees an older person they tend to look at the younger ones instead and he was very polite to all of us. They gave us a nice quiet table and the food was delicious!!!! We ate way too much and still had enought for lunch the next day.... wonderful table, food, service from the hostess, waiter and managers....We will be back and we already reccomended Eddie V's to our friends. The first one we went to was in Austin...We were bummed we weren't invited to the new grand opening of the Eddie V's downtown!!!!"

  • "I feel so stupid because we can't remember our waitress's name, but she we wonderful. we sat in the corner across from the piano. It was my wife's birthday and she was given a nice card and the band sang to her. Thank you all so much for everything. First time, not the last. Eddie and Mary Wellens"

  • "Our 3rd trip to Eddie V's in 2 months and it continues to impress us and we're pretty picky. Food is terrific, service is beyond good (each time we've been here, the manager has come over to introduce himself and make sure we were satisfied), and the ambience is top notch. It's pricy, but you definitely get what you pay for here...well worth it! We'll be back again soon."

  • "Very slow service despite adequate service staff server blamed an over stressed kitchen. If you don't have the we've the people you seat then don't seat so many in ability the first place. Good food and atmosphere but over expansion has cost them our business"

  • "Great view, beautiful restaurant, wonderful food. Great for a special occasion. Prices are a little expensive, but it's La Jolla!"

  • "We had an excellent meal with great service on our first visit to Eddie V's in La Jolla. In general, we are not fans of chain restaurants, especially upscale ones, many of which are oriented to expense account spenders. But from the delicious corn and crab chowder, through the tasty Scottish salmon and the sweet Georges Bank scallops to perhaps the best Bananas Foster we have ever had, this was a memorable dinner. Our lovely table overlooked the Cove, which, even at night, is beautiful. Elias, the chef, visited with us for a chat-certainly a nice touch. We will be back before our vacation ends."

  • "Beautiful place.elegant but not ostentatious. Food and view of the cove terrific. I told them ahead of time I was celebrating my son's birthday just the two of us and would appreciate anything they could do to make it special. The entire staff knew about it and each wished him a happy birthday, gave him a personalized card, the best table in the house, and a free desert! The place is expensive but worth it!"

  • "We celebrated a birthday lunch this past weekend and LOVED it. We'd been there before, but really enjoyed the relaxed pace of lunch at Eddie V's. We are locals who have tried all the local spots, and this is our current favorite. Great views, service, food."

  • "Had pre-dinner drinks at the upstairs bar the night before - great location. We booked dinner for our anniversary and had rose petals on the table as well as hand signed card from the staff - nice touch! The view from the main dining room is spectacular and the busy staff and chatting diners give a hustling feel allowing for conversation to be private. The lobster tacos were a great start with some fresh pacific oysters. For mains, the Chilean Sea Bass and Ahi Tunu Steak, were tasty but a little overpriced without any accompaniments. Would return next time in La Jolla to try the bar service."

  • "We brought friends from out of town. The food and service were exceptional. I had forgotten to ask for a window table. We asked if one was available as we were being seated. Unfortunately a window table wasn't available at that time. The manager came to our table to apologize and said she would add that information to my profile for the future. Our wait staff then brought an appetizer, compliments of the chef. Very nice touch."

  • "We were invited in to the restaurant and were directed to the top level. We chose a table with a view. It was breezy in the evening, but the table was sufficiently warmed by a tower heater so that temperature was not an issue. Service was very nice except midway we had to call another server to request drinks. Once we did that, our server made an excellent recommendation and the food was very good. For the food and service I would recommend this location, but the area they seated us in had 3 large, loud parties which made our intimate dining experience not so cozy. The view was very nice, but the celebratory outbursts, table hopping and loud banter were not what I would have preferred on this particular evening."

  • "My girlfriend and I were coming back fro a spa week in Mexico and spent the night in San Diego. We asked for the best seafood restaurant in the area and we got a long list of names but at the top of everyone's list was Eddie V's in La Jolla. We sat outside on the top deck with the sun setting overlooking the cove. We watched kayakers and surfers in the cove, we listened to the seals on the rocks below and took in everything that make La Jolla so special. The food, the freshness of the seafood and service were beyond description. Perfect in every way. We are definitely coming back to La Jolla and to Eddie V's! Jamie C. Boston, MA"
