Drunken Fish - Westport PlazaOur first visit to the WestportOur first visit to the Westport Drunken Fish, using an Open Table reservation, was equal to an earlier visit as drop-ins to the Central West End venue a couple of months ago. Staff were extraordinarily welcoming and friendly, both manager and servers. Each was helpful in selecting items that were precisely as promised and met our expectations for both quantity and quality: We shared both seaweed and calamari salads as well as a Big Easy and a Fried Philly roll and found a Pinot Grigiot especially complementary! But on special occasions or if they offer a Groupon deal I'll visit sometimes. The sushi was really good and they have thorough descriptions in the menu, which is nice. Alot of times at sushi restaurants you're not really sure what you're ordering. Service was decent. The meal took a while to come out and the waitress informed us there was one roll holding things up because it takes 15 minutes to bake or something. I'm like, then bring the other stuff out beforehand, I don't care. Some sushi restaurants bring out your rolls in waves depending on when things are ready, and I don't have a problem with that. There were five of us and it was the first time for several of us to eat at a sushi restaurant. We were definitely in need of some guidance with the menu. The server, Natalia, was helpful and friendly and didn't make us feel rushed to make a decision. She explained the variety of options and made recommendations (good ones). Her timing was impeccable, she didn't hover, but yet seemed to be at the table when needed. The food was fabulous, definitely something for everyone. Then the restaurant surprised my son with a free birthday dessert, large enough for all of us to share-and delicious. The sea bass is always done to perfection, this is my favorite dish. The service is always a little off, and the staff seems to huddle together, with loud conversations around the bar and kitchen area...It happens every time we go, The management should really do something about this...I have managed restaurants before, and would never allow this...we always ask for a table away from these areas, because it just puts a downer on your meal, when you have to listen to how wasted they were the night before, and off language.
