We were finally able to try Driftwood after recommendations from several friends. It was awesome! The drink menu is interesting, they have a kids menu with unique choices, and they were able to accommodate a member of our party who cannot tolerate gluten with several options. Our server was super nice and anticipated all of our needs. We were never left wondering where she was or needing anything. I can't wait to go back and try more of their delicious sounding menu!! Of note, the mac and cheese is probably the best I've ever had!

Food good not great. Brisket was tasty but average prep at best. Collards good fresh quality but not great. Fried chicken was also good. Appearance of preparation was solid all the way around. Beer selection was really good. We will go back but not on a frequent basis. Sat outside which was great. Inside of restraunt was very noisy. Waitress was a gem.

I have now eaten lunch and dinner here and was truly impressed. I had the Risotto the first time and the Shrimp & Grits the second. Both were fabulous. There were 5 of us for dinner and we all were blown away by the food. Their cocktail drinks are a bit pricey at $9, but the dark and stormy that I had was great (made with ginger beer) and my friend had the Coconut Water and loved it. Beer selection is good. I would recommend this to my friends and I am definitely taking my husband here.

Six met for dinner and found the following: Waitress was outstanding as were the pork rinds, seats need cushions, menu was small. Individual meal reviews were: Mahi special was tasty but not great; Brisket was dry and not very good; Chicken fried chicken with sausage gravy was very good but very heavy; Shrimp and grits were okay; sides we all good. Desserts: Cookie was outstanding and the New Orleans "doughnuts" were not. @ $40 per head all in you can do a lot better in the Raleigh area. Also - billed as "southern" kitchen... maybe if you're from the northeast.

First time and did not disappoint. We had 3 appetizers, 5 entrees, 4 drinks, all were outstanding. Guacamoles were great, pork meatloaf delicious, salmon very good, pork belly tacos and shrimp and grits also so tasty. Portions are large and delicious. Our server, Heather was perfect, hard to hear her over noise. I think there was music, but all I heard was thumping base. Put in more burlap draping to absorb the sound. Will be back for sure and already have recommended it to friends. Oysters would be a nice addition to their menu.

Decided to try Driftwood because we wanted to add another restaurant with good food at a convenient location near our home--unfortunately, this will not make that list. The food was good, but it was a meal I can cook at home, with a lot less noise and we can carry on a conversation at the table without shouting to each other.

This was our second visit to Driftwood. The food was mediocre at best. Our waiter was fantastic. We spoke with the manager on two different occasions and he was just dreadful. Once was when he brought us our food and the other was when we asks him a question about open table. He was very rude and not interested in the least. We immediately made the decision to never return to a Driftwood after this experience. Who wants to pay $75 to be treated so poorly? Thumbs down for this one!

I loved everything about the experience. The food was fantastic and the drinks were even better (vanilla lemondade moonshine). I had one of their specialty guacs, the shrimp and grits which were slightly unconventional but better than anywhere else, and the New Orleans style donuts. Our service was excellent. There was plenty of parking. It's a large space inside but it's broken up well. It's got some country feel but not over the top. It's more eclectic prarie than country really. I will go there again for sure.

Extremely noisy due to the minimalist decor. Hard for our group of 6 to visit. Some dishes better than others. Service was lacking. It was interesting that the "claim to fame" is farm to table with a number of main courses not being local.

  • Don't try the Barbeque
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 8/13/2014
For a southern inspired farm to table restaurant that claims to be a southern specialty restaurant they need to go back to school to learn how to make barbeque. Their barbeque brisket was a slab of flavorless fat. It should be a beautiful piece of meat with a little fat for flavor, but I have to send the meal back and explain what barbeque was. The brisket lacked a smoke ring and the crust that is a trademark of good southern brisket barbeque, plus it was sauced before coming to the table. And, don't ask about the portion size, it was five slices and rather small, yet 100% fat. The Mac and Cheese was good, nothing that I would not expect from a place with the credentials that they have.

I have been to Driftwood twice now...once for dinner and once for brunch. I have yet to taste anything that I wouldn't want to eat again. The chef here knows what they are doing and the food is unique but relate-able and beyond delicious. I highly recommend the moonshine cocktails, the guacamole with lobster and goat cheese, the ribs, the french toast etc....I cant stop! This is a welcome addition to Lafayette Village and a place I will return to time and time again!

Went with a group of eight that trickled in over a twenty minute period. Waitress came to the table promptly and got everyone's drink/food orders correct w/o writing it down. She took the time to go over the specials numerous times because people in the group would ask, then get sidetracked and forget what she said. The waitress had tremendous patience. Food came to the table in a timely manner. While wrapping up she mentioned their fabulous Sunday brunch then let us review the dessert menu. Excellent pace to the meal. My girlfriend and I are looking forward to returning for date night.

My boyfriend and I brought my parents here when they were passing through for the night and flying out the next morning. We had not been here, so it was new to all. I liked the atmosphere right away. Our server didn't join us for about 7-10 mins, but that was ok. Once he did arrive, the service was fantastic from beginning to end. He answered all of our questions, gave suggestions, and had a very honest opinion of the drink and dinner menu which I can appreciate. The food was was very FRESH and tasty. Watermelon and tomato salad is delicious! Brisket was good; a little dry. BBQ sauce=yum! Chicken fried Chicken--WOW! We will definitely be back.

Four of us were there for brunch and we all agreed the staff and food was amazing. We never had to wait for a clean plate or a refill of juice or coffee. The bread pudding was very tasty; best I ever had. The hash brown casserole, shrimp and grits, and the cheese biscuits were wonderful as was the arugula salad. The fresh fruit salad and fried chicken was very good. We all said we would go back again and have recommended Driftwood to many people.

Went on a Monday evening, party of 5. Place was less than half full. Service was excrutiatingly slow. It took close to half an hour to get our cocktails after the order was placed, and the appetizers arrived ahead of the drinks. The fried artichoke hearts were inedible (think chewing on greasy plastic) and were returned (fully refunded). The deep south picnic plate @ $12 was a bit of pimento cheese, a bit of sweet bacon spread, a spoonful of jam, a few crostinis, a slice of cheese and mostly empty platter. Whatever plagued the bar also plagued the kitchen regarding wait times. Our entire dinner took 2.5 hours, most of it spent waiting. Entrees were palatable but underwhelming.

Our dinner at Driftwood Southern Kitchen on Sat 6/28/14 was a great experience. They took an existing space (was a high end market/deli) and transformed it into a very casual place to relax and enjoy dinner and friends. The drinks were excellent...Blood Orange Mojito was the winner with our group. All the appetizers were yummy, especially the lobster nacho's. Our entrees were tasty, the guys had the smoked brisket and ribs and everyone was happy with the food. The shrimp and grits could have a bit more seasoning, but I personally like to add my own. Great to have a place nearby that isn't over priced!

We're always open to trying new restaurants. Enter with an open mind. The Menu is limited, but that insures that the food is made fresh. That being said. The Blood Orange Mojitos were very good as were the appetizers (Fried Green Tomatoes, Fried Oysters and Wings). While the Main Course was okay, they weren't great. I had a Hamburger that almost seemed steamed, tasteless if it wasn't for the bacon and Guacamole. I would go back for drinks and appetizers, but I would skip dinner.

The menu is pretty broad, and has at least one item on it for everyone. The fried green tomatoes and goat cheese are fantastic! A real southern dish with a nice twist on it. The moonshine cocktails are another southern specialty. The lemon vanilla and strawberry basil are both refreshing, not overpowering, but be careful because it's so easy to drink more than one. Save room for dessert, because the beignets are a dream! I enjoyed mine with the fruit and chocolate sauces. The cookie with ice cream is a close second. Lindsay and Britney are both wonderful servers!

I found Driftwood while browsing restaurants on Open Table. My brother was coming to town and I wanted to take him somewhere nice for dinner. We were all very impressed with everything! We went on Wednesday so glasses of wine were half off. We had an amazing lobster nacho appetizer. It was very hard to share. My husband had the shrimp and grits, I had the blue crab bisque and soft shell crab sandwich and my brother had the ribs. Outstanding food and our waiter was very helpful in helping us make a decision. We will definitely head back that way again.

We ordered picnic plate for an appetizer and really enjoyed. For dinner I ordered skirt steak meal. Some plates are overpriced, the meats was delicious. Chocolate pecan pie for dessert - very good. Wasn’t a lot a people for dinner on Thursday and we was waiting for my food for 1 hour, I really don’t like it the fair service, that isn’t a good combination with delicious food and very good ambience. Unfortunately the wait service was lacking which took away for the great food. The waitress seemed bothered that we sat outside and she needed to tell us the specials. She actually told me it would be easier if I could go in and read the Board. We didn't receive our drinks until 20 minutes after we ordered. Our entrees came almost an hour after we ordered. It was a Tuesday night and not that crowded. Our waitress checked on us twice during the entire time. That was disappointing. Good door though and great atmosphere.

It was ok. The food was ok. The service was good. The tables are oddly spaced way apart from each other making the place feel wrong. Kids mac n cheese not creamy, the lobster nachos ok, the kids BBQ sand pretty good, the BBQ sampler ok. The place tried so hard with cool details- thistles in little bottles on the tables, old tins signs, corrugated metal walls, interesting wood tables- but then just couldn't get the other details right- table spacing, food quality, lighting, sound, etc-- Keep working on it-
