A word from Driftwood Southern Kitchen
Driftwood Southern Kitchen, located in Lafayette Village, is the latest addition to North Raleigh's blossoming local dining scene. Our ever-changing menu showcases the finest of ingredients from supporting local farms and purveyors, allowing us to make as much as possible in house. For us, cooking is not a job- it's our lives, and we believe breaking bread at the table should be a fun and soul satisfying experience. Born out of our strong love for southern ingredients and southern hospitality, Driftwood displays rustic farmhouse cooking at its best. Our menu is designed so our guests can playfully piece their meals together and share with one another for a true communal dining experience, just like sitting down for supper at your grandmother's house.
We're a little quirky, with a touch of serious, but we put a lot of love into what we do. Come join us at Driftwood Southern Kitchen to create memories and share your experiences, we can't wait to see you at our table.

Diner Reviews
  • "Liked the idea of the various guacamoles on the menu. Salads are huge -- enough to make a meal."

  • "Second time here and again, a wonderful dining experience! I know they are known for their smoked meats, but I've gotten their risotto each time and have not been disappointed. The ingredients are so fresh and the presentation is beautiful! The Dirty Shirley was one of the best cocktails I've had in a while. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Four of us were there for brunch and we all agreed the staff and food was amazing. We never had to wait for a clean plate or a refill of juice or coffee. The bread pudding was very tasty; best I ever had. The hash brown casserole, shrimp and grits, and the cheese biscuits were wonderful as was the arugula salad. The fresh fruit salad and fried chicken was very good. We all said we would go back again and have recommended Driftwood to many people."

  • "Went on a Monday evening, party of 5. Place was less than half full. Service was excrutiatingly slow. It took close to half an hour to get our cocktails after the order was placed, and the appetizers arrived ahead of the drinks. The fried artichoke hearts were inedible (think chewing on greasy plastic) and were returned (fully refunded). The deep south picnic plate @ $12 was a bit of pimento cheese, a bit of sweet bacon spread, a spoonful of jam, a few crostinis, a slice of cheese and mostly empty platter. Whatever plagued the bar also plagued the kitchen regarding wait times. Our entire dinner took 2.5 hours, most of it spent waiting. Entrees were palatable but underwhelming."

  • "Great renovation to the old deli mart. Last minute find through OpenTable. Pleasantly surprised. Great addition to the North Raleigh food scene. Neat twists on southern food and fun cocktails too."

  • "Our dinner at Driftwood Southern Kitchen on Sat 6/28/14 was a great experience. They took an existing space (was a high end market/deli) and transformed it into a very casual place to relax and enjoy dinner and friends. The drinks were excellent...Blood Orange Mojito was the winner with our group. All the appetizers were yummy, especially the lobster nacho's. Our entrees were tasty, the guys had the smoked brisket and ribs and everyone was happy with the food. The shrimp and grits could have a bit more seasoning, but I personally like to add my own. Great to have a place nearby that isn't over priced!"

  • "We're always open to trying new restaurants. Enter with an open mind. The Menu is limited, but that insures that the food is made fresh. That being said. The Blood Orange Mojitos were very good as were the appetizers (Fried Green Tomatoes, Fried Oysters and Wings). While the Main Course was okay, they weren't great. I had a Hamburger that almost seemed steamed, tasteless if it wasn't for the bacon and Guacamole. I would go back for drinks and appetizers, but I would skip dinner."

  • "The menu is pretty broad, and has at least one item on it for everyone. The fried green tomatoes and goat cheese are fantastic! A real southern dish with a nice twist on it. The moonshine cocktails are another southern specialty. The lemon vanilla and strawberry basil are both refreshing, not overpowering, but be careful because it's so easy to drink more than one. Save room for dessert, because the beignets are a dream! I enjoyed mine with the fruit and chocolate sauces. The cookie with ice cream is a close second. Lindsay and Britney are both wonderful servers!"

  • "I found Driftwood while browsing restaurants on Open Table. My brother was coming to town and I wanted to take him somewhere nice for dinner. We were all very impressed with everything! We went on Wednesday so glasses of wine were half off. We had an amazing lobster nacho appetizer. It was very hard to share. My husband had the shrimp and grits, I had the blue crab bisque and soft shell crab sandwich and my brother had the ribs. Outstanding food and our waiter was very helpful in helping us make a decision. We will definitely head back that way again."

  • "We ordered picnic plate for an appetizer and really enjoyed. For dinner I ordered skirt steak meal. Some plates are overpriced, the meats was delicious. Chocolate pecan pie for dessert - very good. Wasn’t a lot a people for dinner on Thursday and we was waiting for my food for 1 hour, I really don’t like it the fair service, that isn’t a good combination with delicious food and very good ambience. Thanks"

  • "A great brunch buffet though not huge, but certainly delicious!!!! Every item we tried was impeccable! All drinks except alcohol included is a very nice feature! "

  • "Ribs were delicious, brisket was melt in your mouth, mashed potatoes very good, collards Had too much vinegar for me. Would definitely return."

  • "Cool place. But it won't last. Dumb owner probably. This is Raleigh. Salads don't cost $22. (lettuce and chicken). Ribs / barbecue platters should come with more than one side. The restaurant is too big as well. Looks empty."

  • "Unfortunately the wait service was lacking which took away for the great food. The waitress seemed bothered that we sat outside and she needed to tell us the specials. She actually told me it would be easier if I could go in and read the Board. We didn't receive our drinks until 20 minutes after we ordered. Our entrees came almost an hour after we ordered. It was a Tuesday night and not that crowded. Our waitress checked on us twice during the entire time. That was disappointing. Good door though and great atmosphere. "

  • "It was ok. The food was ok. The service was good. The tables are oddly spaced way apart from each other making the place feel wrong. Kids mac n cheese not creamy, the lobster nachos ok, the kids BBQ sand pretty good, the BBQ sampler ok. The place tried so hard with cool details- thistles in little bottles on the tables, old tins signs, corrugated metal walls, interesting wood tables- but then just couldn't get the other details right- table spacing, food quality, lighting, sound, etc-- Keep working on it- "

  • "Driftwood is a great addition to the N. Raleigh restaurant scene. We absolutely loved our food and our server was great. The prices are really good for the quality of both the food and service. We will be back soon and tell others to go as well."

  • "I can't wait to go back and experience this place a la carte. We went for Mother's Day Brunch, and the food was really really good. I am not a buffet fan. So the fact that I enjoyed it as much as I did gives me high hopes for this place! The shrimp and grits were rich and creamy (fried shrimp!), and the biscuits and gravy were melt-in-your-mouth fantastic. Can't wait to go for dinner!"

  • "Went here for Mother's Day Brunch. Food was fairly good, selection was adequate, cost, for this brunch was over done. Bottomless mimosa's were a nice touch for $10. Will try to go again for dinner."

  • "Went here for the first time for a Mother's Day brunch. My mom LOVED it! And she doesn't like anything really. A little pricey for brunch, but food totally worth it. Best brunch I have ever had!"

  • "It was disappointing. Selections were cold and food was just so so. There was one line so waiting was a challenge. Maybe regular dinner is fine. "

  • "Love this restaurant! Finally , something unique in North Raleigh. Food is delicious! Only negative is due to high ceilings the noise level is high. Our waitress was wonderful! Wonderful experience!Drink menu is as unique as the food! We will be back! "

  • "My family was in Raleigh for the weekend, and I took them to Driftwood having never been there before myself. We had a fantastic experience--the food was incredible, our server was friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was great. It was a great place to celebrate a special occasion. I will definitely be coming back!"

  • "Ate dinner at Driftwood for the first time. The menu was limited but the food was very good. Loved the lobster bisque. But the place had a very "industrial" feel. The chairs were metal and they were so uncomfortable that we almost left early; one elderly person with us simply couldn't get comfortable. This may be the "new cool" look, but we felt like we were eating in a warehouse. We probably won't be going back because of that."

  • "If the Easter brunch is any indication of how great this restaurant is, I'm excited to have discovered it. The atmosphere was laid back and friendly. Our server was fantastic. She was welcoming and attentive; keeping the brunch plates clear and the coffee refilled. Delicious food too! We will be back for dinner! "

  • "First off the food was great when we finally got what we ordered. We started off with wings but began taking and next thing we knew our entrees had arrived. The waitress had never put in the order. Also the only reason I received another drink was because the manager stopped by and he got it. Overall good place if you can deal with the slow service "

  • "My wife and I stumbled onto this restaurant over the weekend and decided to give it a try. My wife is vegetarian, so there weren't a ton of options for her but, she saw the spring vegetable risotto on the menu and was sold. We started with the fried baby artichokes and they were delicious. Just an FYI though, it's a smaller plate, so don't order it expecting a mound of an appetizer. Perfect for two people, however. My wife got the jalapeno margarita (or mojito maybe?) which she really liked. I got the pomegranate old fashioned and was disappointed, especially because it sounded great on paper. It was overly sweet and I couldn't even taste the jim beam. I got the lobster roll for dinner and it was good, but nothing I would write home about."
