A word from Dos Perros
We're unlike anything else in the Triangle.
Dos Perros offers fresh and truly authentic Mexican cuisine, an extensive beer list, and carefully chosen wines. Our house-made aguas frescas (horchata, hibiscus, and more) are delicious by themselves or in several of our innovative cocktails. And we serve it all in a warm but upscale environment.
And for groups of up to 50, we offer a warm, cozy, downstairs private dining room, perfect for private parties. Our 60" high-definition flat screen adds to the possibilities; think business meetings or presentations, movie night, or that big game.
Ideally located, we are downtown, just a couple-minute walk from the Durham Performing Arts Center, making us a popular pre- or post-performance restaurant destination.

  • "Our group had omnivores and vegans, and we all enjoyed our meals."

  • "This restaurant was wonderful for date night. It has a romantic feeling with great ambiance. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and would recommend Dos Perros to my friends and family who also enjoy Mexican food. "

  • "Choose the restaurant because it was close to the DPAC and we were going to the show. It was perfect! Food came out quickly and was delicious. The service was fantastic. The waiter put in the wrong order for one of the meals and quickly remedied the error. The sangria and margaritas were top notch. Will definitely return. Did not sit outside, but next time will - if the weather finally turns from winter to something warmer!"

  • "We visited Dos Perros on Sunday night, to catch a quick dinner before going to DPAC. The server was attentive and took our order and made sure that we were out of the restaurant on time. Sundays and Mondays are Taco Nights, with a different menu, so I tried three different types of tacos---carnitas, shrimp, and grouper. All were good, but the shrimp and grouper were especially tasty to me. The mango margarita was also a big hit."

  • "Had a great meal on a Friday night. We used OpenTable to set up the reservation, showed up on time and the table was waiting. Very good food (mayan version of carnitas and guac), awesome margaritas and quality service."

  • "Outstanding! Unique menu, outstanding service, a real find!"

  • "I went here with my dad for dinner the other evening. We were seated and immediately brought chips and salsa to munch on....but then had no service at all for the next 10 minutes. Nobody came by our table, not even to say "hi, i'll be right with you!". And finally when our waitress did arrive she wasn't friendly. It was a bizarre experience. She was never flat out rude - I just didn't get the sense that she cared at all about our table. It was a Wednesday night, and they were not very busy - it was maybe 1/3 full. The food was just okay, which is unfortunate because I really wanted to like this place. Prices are high, so if I do come back it may be for taco Sun/Mon when things are more reasonably priced."

  • "Nicely situated in Durhman downtown. The menu had 5 or 6 vegetarian items out of which 2 were unavailable. The server recommended a 'ginger-orange' beer and it was unlike anything I have had - a product of England - it was sweet - tasted like spiked ginger ale with mild orange flavor - I liked the drink very much. We ordered the vegan taquitos, emapanadas, and enchiladas - these were pre-made and so they could not add/use dairy cheese. For dessert, we had classic flan and chocolate ice cream which had traces of ancho chile and cinnamon - you could taste mild heat in the ice cream - it was absolutely delicious! Portions are modest. We were very pleased with the food - not the typical mexican food from chain restaurants !"

  • "We had a reservation and were seated within 10 minutes of our reservation time. It was very busy and we heard the waitress tell the next table that it was usually busy on nights when there was something at the DPAC. That was why we'd picked it so I can understand that! Food was quite good as was the service. A very good option for a pre-theater meal."

  • "Met two couples at Dos Perros early (5PM) before the Chelsea show and had a great dining experience. Place was empty at 5 and full of loud happy people at 6. Great ecclectic menu, bright modernesque atmosphere."

  • "Gluten free friendly, wonderful service. A bit too loud, but otherwise perfect!"

  • "We were 4 adults on Monday evening. All fine from friendly waiters to above average food and menu items. Great deal price wise. Our only Disappointment was the quickness with which our plates were served. We had not finished nibbling on the chips nor had barely started our margaritas when our main course was given to us. We regretted that we had not been able to linger over the drinks for in order to enjoy easy conversation and tasty cocktails. Not preferable to mix the many flavors of various taco fillings with exotic fruit drinks. Our plan had been to savor the drinks, then give attention to your special dishes. There were empty tables so making us feel a bit rushed was especially unnecessary."

  • "Ate at Dos Perros primarily because it is close to the Durham Performing Arts Center. Decent overall menu, though a little hard to understand, with excellent specials. I got the snapper special which was tasty and tender. My wife got a steak dish and enjoyed the unique taste. The dining area can get crowded and the service is very prompt, though at times too much with constant visits by staff asking about chips, water, etc. Overall, very good experience and well worth a visit before a show. Recommended."

  • "Had group of 5 for birthday celebration of our 2 adult children. Calamari was tasty and tender. Group had 2 of the mezcal margaritas - flavorful and very interesting. Entrees all superb. Chocolate mocha cake a real treat. Service excellent. Very nice night."

  • "Dos Perros is one of our favorite downtown spots for dinner before a show at DPAC. We can count on great food and drinks then a short walk to the show."

  • "We dined at Dos Perros for the first time and were dazzled. My Sangria was best ever and our food was amazing. Flavorful and unique and so tasty - a most welcome option for foodies."

  • "This was my first trip to Dos Peros for dinner and I was pleasantly surprised. The service was super. Loved the menu selections including dishes reminiscent of what you see in nice restaurants in Mexico. It's a pleasure to have such selections instead of the cheeze smothered Tex-Mex grub that's everywhere. Nice kick to the salsa and the guacamole was top notch. One entree dish we tried was duck with mole sauce. The duck was beautifully executed while the mole only gets a solid C. Regarless of that complaint, each of us thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the meal. For desert, the flan was outstanding. One of the best I've had in a long time and that isn't easy to get just right. We'll be back."

  • "We had show tickets and this looked good so decided to go here for dinner beforehand. First of all… The drinks are great. There are many choices so we got a few to try and share. They are all imaginative and the ones we have tried so far have been excellent. They are also competitively priced. That leads me to the food… It is really expensive for what you get. My fiancé had a Quesadilla that was more than $20. I had a spicy breast of chicken for about 17. The food was very overpriced in my opinion. I believe I saw that they have a weekly taco night where their food menu seems a lot more reasonable. I am looking forward to trying it on one of those nights and still getting the opportunity to have the great drinks as well."

  • "Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing, because I've heard great things about Dos Perros. I ordered shrimp and fish tacos & when they served me my plate I was so disappointed to see a big plate of brown. When I think of fish tacos I'm hoping for tons of beautiful fresh ingredients and flavorful fish, but this was completely over fried, I couldn't taste the fish hardly at all. The fresh cabbage, tomatoes, onions and cilantro were sparse and hidden on the margins of the plate. Very bad presentation! The worst part was the spicy brown sauce on the fish taco. It was nothing like I've ever had on a fish taco and was not a welcome twist - very spicy and too overpowering for the fresh, delicate flavors. Don't order it! Service was very good though!"

  • "Overall not a bad experience. Was with friends before going to see a show at DPAC. Service was very good, wine selection was also quite good, but the food seemed a little bland. I expected to have my taste buds treated, but instead I walked away saying to myself, "not bad." I shared several bites from friend's plates, so experienced four dishes. One pork, vegetarian, fish, and shrimp. None made me jump for joy. It was my treat night, so the four dinner plates, with no appetizer or desert, a bottle of cabernet, and four mixed drinks came out to $150 with tip. Pretty steep for an OK experience."

  • "I love the gluten free kitchen and the food is fantastic. Two things I liked less: 1) It is very loud in the main dining area. There were four of us and we sometimes struggled to hear each other across our small table. 2) Although everything on the main menu that is made in their kitchen is gluten free, the desserts are not made in-house so they are not necessarily gluten free and the menu does not say this. I had to ask to be sure and was glad I did. I would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "I love Dos Perros! I was very happy to see that they participated in the Bull City Vegan Challenge, and that they have some new vegan items on the menu. I come to Dos Perros regularly with friends as well as large meetup groups. The service and quality are always exceptional."

  • "This is a nice restaurant within a couple of blocks of DPAC. We had dinner there with friends before Evita this week. All of us enjoyed our entrees, the staff was friendly and the service overall was good. We will be back. When the weather gets a little warmer they also offer outdoor seating. Give it a try."

  • "Running a little late to Mavericks show, we had the good fortune to have a waiter that could guide us through the menu, suggest timely and delicious small plates, let us enjoy the food, and send us on our way in plenty of time."

  • "Food was great, although one menu item wasn't available and we weren't informed until 20 minutes after ordering. Service was somewhat slow, although it was a busy night with a show nearby"

  • "We enjoyed our margaritas and guac but the seared tuna special was soggy and tasteless. The chile relleno was acceptable. The wait staff did a really nice job of making us feel welcome including moving us away from the corner table near the kitchen, stairs, and main path to the restrooms. We made reservations over a week ahead and the restaurant was 50% empty. The hostess even tried to talk to the host about the table choice, we should have said something before we sat down but we had no idea how much commotion there would be around us."

  • "First visit to this restaurant. I had a reservation and although the restaurant was crowded, they had our table available on time. The food was delicious. This is not your typical Mexican restaurant. The meals are obviously chef prepared. Despite being crowded, the service was very good."

  • "We had already eaten dinner with the kids so the plan was to go out to Dos Perros for dessert and drinks. They pour great margaritas, so we ended up skipping dessert in favor of drinks and chips/guacomole. Having eaten here many times before, we are consistently impressed with both food and service."

  • "Had reservations so got there early and stood at the bar for 10 mins until we finally decided to ask the bartender if she could take our drink which she said she was backed up and walked away. Extremely rude service. Other bartender at least told acknowledged us and said he would be with us... Good wazoo.. Lamb enchiladas were dry. Salsa was good."

  • "I reserved a table weeks ahead of time. The restaurant called the day of to confirm the reservation. impressive. However, upon arrival, I was severely disappointed. There was an event at the DPAC so Dos Perros was crowded. Upon arrival, the host seemed surprised that we had a reservation. They scrambled to pull a table together for us. They positioned the table in the middle of a major thoroughfare in the dining room. Our server was very distracted. He seemed to be in the weeds. The food was delicious. The portions were large. The entire evening we felt like an after thought. In total we spent $450 that evening. For that price, disappointed with the experience. Dos Perros seems unable to handle a large crowd. Check the DPAC calendar first."
