Diner Reviews
  • "Kyle and Dan always do a terrific job. Terrific food and service. Try the Crab Danton for an appetizer"

  • "We had the pecan crusted snapper which was prepared perfectly and also the seafood courtboullion which is fantastic. The seafood cb is an old school Cajun dish that is not on many menus and the version at Danton's is one of the best I have ever had. Also had the Crab Danton appetizer which everyone should try."

  • "The frst issue with this place is that it is listed under SEAFOOD on open table. It is a cajun restaurant. A bad one. It is a distant second to Papadeaux. Just go there instead. The portions were insulting. I literally asked how much to get the other 3/4 of my sandwich (I ordered the HALF poboy w/gumbo). I got a kids meal. I was told I would need to order an entirely new meal. I was VERY disappointed in this place. The shrimp was not fresh and the gumbo tasted scorched....which was only about 5 spoonfuls. My friends shrimp blt came served on a hamburger bun! I do NOT recommend this place. 1 positive...drinks were divine :-) We were all starving when we left there. We went home and had pizza."

  • "I love Danton's Happy Hour in the Oyster Bar. $10 for a dozen oysters on the half shell and cold shrimp for $0.90ea - such a deal. This time, however, I also ordered the ribeye and it was aMAzing! I love ribeye steaks and have had them at most of the steak houses in Houston. This one, however, was just about the best I've ever had. I don't know how they prepare it, but it was truly melt-in-your-mouth tender and delicious. Amanda provided excellent service as always."

  • "Great brunch venue. Always good food and the jazz group is just as good"

  • "Danton's is a terrific Houston restaurant and fortunate to be a convenient neighborhood restaurant to those in the Montrose, Museum District and Midtown areas. Food and Service are outstanding!"
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "I can't believe that I waited so long to try Danton's brunch! The boudin benedict was scrumptious, and the key lime pie was tasty. The live band was so perfect as a compliment to the menu and atmosphere. I lingered over brunch like never before, just to continue enjoying the ambience. I am definitely making this a new routine for my Sunday's."

  • "Overall I was a bit diappointed in my dinning experience. However, the gumbo was top notch! The food is overly spiced. Even the blue cheese salad dressing had cajun spices in it. Our waiter was wonderful!"

  • "We enjoyed cold oysters on the half shell and cold boiled shrimp on a very hot afternoon. Oysters $10 per dozen. Shrimp .90 cents each. Both were great. World cup was on the tube. Nice and fun crowd. Service was great as well. We will return."

  • "For being a top class eating establishment, the food and service was average, it may have been that on Father's Day the kitchen and staff were stretched but even then the friendliness of the staff was acceptable but nothing to rave about"
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "We had Amanda as our waitress and I just gotta say she was the nicest I've seen in a while. She sure made it a pleasant experience and plus the red fish was cooked to perfection."

  • "My wife and I ate before the theater and as always everything was excellent."

  • "So sorry I found out about this place so late. I love Pappadeaux but this place has a different vibe. Great great creole food, but more of a New Orleans down home feel. Love the ambience."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "This Kyle Teas brainchild was fantastic for Sunday blues brunch. I had a great meal and enjoyed the music. Not too loud, just right to get your Sunday off with a tasty kick. If you love Creole, this is your spot."

  • "Prices are reasonable and the food and service is great! Get to listen to live blues music on Sunday while enjoying your meal. Just remember to make a reservation since the place fills up and you'll need one."

  • "In making reservations thorugh Open Table I was told there were none avalable bwetween 5:45PM and 7:45PM. don't understand why as there were plenty of tables available while I was there between 5:30PM and 5:45PM. This could have caused me to choose a different dining spot."

  • "Great place to eat seafood! The fish is always fresh! Crab Danton is yummy and love their desserts."

  • "After reading other reviews, we were excited about going to this restaurant. The food was blah the waitress was blah the food had little spice the gumbo was lukewarm."

  • "We had a nice dinner with fried calamaras for our son and we took advantage of it too and we shared a campecha (?) After that ourson had chosen a snapper and we experienced our first crawfish dinner. It was good, but too much spice. I like spicy food, but this was not spicy but just eating away my lips after a while. So next time i will chose something else. "

  • "I have a particular fondness for the characteristic Gulf Coast species and preparations. Danton's brings together the best features, fresh local ingredients and creative presentations. The style here is modified Creole/Cajun, employing appropriate amounts of cayenne and other regional spices, and with familiar side dishes like dirty rice, yams and okra with tomatoes. The fish is always fresh, never overcooked. Oysters usually come from within 100 miles, and their source is always indicated. All the dishes I have tried are excellent, and I intend to try them all eventually. The service is very attentive, friendly and not obtrusive, and the atmosphere relaxed. An excellent neighborhood spot, but worth the drive from anywhere."

  • "This visit was for the Sunday Blues Brunch and we saw two different bands. Very good venue with a hint of Houston's past as a center of the Blues. And Danton's always has good food."

  • "The atmosphere was spirited. The waitstaff was friendly and truly enjoy being a part of the Danton family. The food was authentic and fabulous. Great Gumbo and crème brulee!! Looking forward to returning for Sunday brunch soon! "

  • "This trip we dined early -- reservations for 5:00. Note this is not a good plan as the dining room is not really "open" at that time and you will have to wait 15-20 minutes. This has happened to me with 5:00 and 5:30 reservations. Not sure why Open Table/Danton's offers reservations at this time wine dining room is not really open. ?? Makes for a quiet dinner as it doesn't start filling until after 6:00. We love Baked Oysters Dan, catfish enchiladas, key lime pie, white chocolate bread pudding, wild fried catfish, fried oysters. Excellent dining experience."

  • "We have dined here for several special occasions but this trip we enjoyed the Sunday Brunch for the first time taking advantage of the set price for Houston's Restaurant Week (which doesn't last just a week anymore). The two of us enjoyed dozen oysters half shell, gumbo, blackened catfish enchiladas, fried oysters meal, white chocolate bread pudding and crème Brule for $35.00 each. Nice price, to say the least, for great food and live entertainment. We were in a corner booth at the front/street side of the restaurant which I would recommend as it is a comfortable distance from the live entertainment. Entertainment was nice but it does not allow for ease of conversation."

  • "We very much enjoyed our experience at the restaurant. It started with your wonderful young girl who seated us. She was very sweet and patient and kind and made us feel very comfortable and welcome. She is star asset of your restaurant. Give her a raise! "

  • "Danton's has become my favorite seafood restaurant in Houston. The fish selections are always very fresh. You can have the fish prepared simply or with additional toppings. Crab Danton as an appetizer is amazing. Key Lime pie tastes tart and fresh. Love it!"

  • "Great food and service. Not inexpensive but overall a good experience."

  • "Our overall experience was excellent was disappointed that the live entertainment didn't play for very long. Got there at 11:45 am and they played or less than an hour"

  • "We went for mother's day brunch. They did a fantastic job serving a very crowded restaurant, managing the flow and making sure everyone had what they needed. The food was delicious. This place is first class all the way. Loved the gospel music, it was the perfect volume. Could easily have been overwhelming, but it wasn't."

  • "Took my wife here this weekend as a special occasion for Mother's Day. Had reservations for two at 8:30 pm. Arrived s bit early and was told by the hostess there wasn't a table ready for us yet. When we went to the bar to await our table the hostess pointed to an empty 2 seat bar booth table and told us that was supposed to be our table this night but couldn't seat us yet because the waitress had just seated other people and wouldn't be able to attend us quickly. We said we didn't mind and thought the booth might be better than waiting on the stools at the bar. Turned out that the booth we were sat at was being attended to by the bartender, not dedicated waitstaff. Resulted in having slow and unattentive service for our dinner."

  • "We arrived 30 minutes prior to our reservation and were immediately seated. The food and appetizers were great. Everyone enjoyed the meal and overall I felt the visit was great. the server was very professional and courteous and the experience was positive. we will return and may next time, the flounder will be available. having some types of fish, not available, tell me everything is fresh and they dont keep any stored away in the freezer"
