Cigar City BrewpubFirst time dinerVisited the Cigar City Brewpub for the first time for lunch. We had a party of 6, the service was quick without the courses arriving on top of each other. Our server was nice and answered all of our questions. Lunch menu was a little limited, but the atmosphere was nice. Wish it was closer to St. Pete. Services was super fast. As vain as this sounds, great looking super hip staff. Not really sure if the modification was transmitted but the staff was great about accommodating us. We had to wait briefly for our table but it was a Friday night at 7:15 so we were not bothered by the short wait. Everyone was cheerful and showed high energy like they were excited about this place. Menu options were great. I enjoyed the fish tacos and kale salad. Others in the group had the pork belly and really enjoyed it. My two foodie companions were impressed. I had the burger with plaintains, sofrito and bacon. YUM. My husband ordered ropa vieja and it was delicious as well. I had a cocktail which was ok and my husband enjoyed the beer. The food was great, slightly expensive so we won't make it a regular in the rotation but will definitely be back. I don't even like fish and the swordfish tacos were amazing. The service was wonderful and our server Russell was very knowledgable about comparing the different beers and recommending ones based on our likes. We've always loved cigar city and feel like the brew pub is essential for out-of-towners. Relatives in for the weekend? This will give them a good feel of why Tampa is unique and good food pics to post to make the family back home jealous.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMI was eager to try Cigar CityI was eager to try Cigar City Brewpub when a new location opened near my home. I had sampled their food at Tampa Int'l Airport a few months ago and really enjoyed it. Food was great. I was completely satisfied. Menu was limited. Not sure if it's a start-up menu for new location that will be expanded in the future. Let's hope so. We were seated promptly. wasn't busy @ 3:30pm on Sunday afternoon. It took longer than expected for server to come to the table & greet us. Server was friendly but awkward. Slight delay when bringing drinks to us when they weren't busy. It was just as good as the review said it was. Our service was excellent as well as the food. Our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and his recommendations were accurate. We enjoyed the local foods and local beers (porter and stout). Great menu, not huge but everything on it looked worth a try. We started with the porkbelly which was fantastic, great flavor perfectly cooked and the radish was a great accompanyment. Entrees were the 48 hour boliche and the coffee dusted flat iron steak. The black beans and rice with the boliche were fabulous as were the asparagus with the flat iron. The jicama that came with the flat iron had potential but lacked the level of seasoning I would have liked. The plaintains with the boliche were good but did not stand out. Flat iron streak was coocked to perfection and had great flavor and was not drowned in sauce which I appreciate. The boliche was on the dry side but still flavorful.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMSmall Portions, Great Beer!!The ambiance is great and the creative Cigar City/Tampa themed decor was great. The beers never fail to impress but I was disappointed that the signature brewpub exclusive beer was not yet available. I wanted to order a burger, but was told they were out of burgers. (I thought that was poor planning but I'll write that off to grand opening wrinkles.) I decided on the ropa vieja. The ropa vieja was excellent in taste and presentation but I thought the portion was a bit small for the $17 menu price. I will definitely be back though!
