chi SPACCAShort ribs are the best. HoweverShort ribs are the best. However wish squash blossoms didn't have the riccotta too rich. But biggest wish is rice gelato on menu6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply the bestEach of the threee courses I got was the finest presentation of that particular dish that I had ever experienced. The best pâté, the best sweetbreads, the juiciest and tastiest lamb. I only wish I'd gone with a larger group so I could've ordered and shared multiple dishes to sample more of the menu. The way the meats were prepared made each bite like drinking fine wine, savoring complex flavors that require nuanced appreciation. I was particularly impressed by the level of expertise in the butchery and grilling of the lamb.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat steak at a great priceWe dined on the bistecca florentina at $175. I must say it was some of the best meat I have had in a long time and the left overs were wonderful The fried artichoke and its aioli sauce were a real delight as well. I will definitely be back for some of their other offereings.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMTomahawk pork chopI went in a group of 5 people at 6:45pm. The restaurant space is very small, 30 seats only. But this adds to the atmosphere bc there is less noise which enhances your own experience. We ordered the salumi plate, lardo bread, razor clams, baby kale salad, beef & bone marrow pie, butter beans, grilled cauliflower, tomahawk pork chop. Everything was so delicious. The pork chop was hands down amazing and fed all 5 of us. The only thing that was just ok were the razor clams which I felt were a bit overcooked (slightly too chewy). But even that did not bring down our dinner. All dishes have a lot of flavor and seasoning, so be prepared to have your taste buds stimulated. Highly recommended now before they start getting really slammed.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Place for MeatWent above my expectations as well as the people I was dining with. I would recommend having a party no less than 4, but the place probably can't accommodate more than 6. With a party of four you can share and enjoy what they have to offer. The staff was friendly and super knowledgeable about the food. Not only are the knowledgeable, but excited about the food. I love this place. Wish I could afford to come here more often.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellentthe service and food were both excellent. The smell of the wood burning oven and the small intimate atmosphere really added to the experience. Being able to watch your food being prepared also added to the experience. All food choices were well prepared and very full of flavor. The waitress and staff were great at explaining the different menu options and organizing our choices into a well orchestrated meal. Only sorry the Mozza group of restaurants is not in NY and we only get to enjoy when we are in LA...Mario and Joe and Nancy...you did it again!! please add these amazing restaurants to your already great NY collection of restaurants....thanks for making a special night for my son's USC graduation even more special....5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBeef.... if you crave it.This is the place to come to satisfy your meat eating desires. This is not the place to dine if you are looking for a vegan meal, or are overly worried about counting your calories. The emphasis here is on meat, and the chefs have it down to a science. Small, intimate dining room, excellent wait staff (exemplary service), was very impressed with the wine pairing they provided; all in all a restaurant I would heartily recommend.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMmeat cleverThis place was amazing, the hostess was great, she loves what she does for a living. The chef was great too.
Love the 42 oz steak and the bread amazing.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMSome of the best food in LAHad dinner here a month ago and couldn't wait to come back. Every course is exquisite. The chicken Diavolo was so good I had to have it again. So moist and spicey. The short ribs were tender and full of flavor. Don't miss the olive oil cake.
Can't wait to come back!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWowMy wife and I had our anniversary dinner here, along with two friends. The charceturie plate was astonishing. The steak florentine was sublime. The service was spot on. I was less than thrilled with the wine we had selected for us in the mid-level wine pairing. We got 4 glasses, 2 of which were 1/2 pours. Other than that it was perfect.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a tiny, cozy restaurantThis is a tiny, cozy restaurant with a limited menu. But what they do, they do really well. The chefs cook right in front of you, a little like being over at a friends place for dinner as opposed to a restaurant. One word of warning, much of their menu has pork in it.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a great experienceWe had a great experience dining at chi Spacca. Everything from beginning to end was outstanding, including our appetizers, the entrees and desserts. And the service was friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't Miss ThisCome hungry! Don't miss the lardo mantecato or the affettati misti, for starters. Stick around for one of the best entrees you'll ever have. Chef Colby is a master with meat. The Tomahawk Pork Chop is one of the best dishes ever to touch a plate. Great small venue for an intimate feel and the staff is impeccable, as you'd expect. Have never been even remotely disappointed in a meal within any of these Bastianich/Batali/Silverton restaurants. They know how to please customers.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMeat the meatloved the platter of their cured meats-- affettati misti (no prosciutto this visit, though ;/) I tasted them and they were nice...
I got the pickles as my main appetizer... and the spumanti we had as the first drink was surprising and yum! I would want to have it at home :) In fact, that summarizes my visit here--definitely surprising and yum!
For the main course, we shared the beef and bone marrow pie... wowsers... I don't eat much wheat and meat due to health concerns, but this was worth eating :) The crust had the perfect balance of give and gently resistant texture...the meat/mushroom middle was balanced and wonderful savory...and the standing bone marrow in the middle made me smile.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent - go already! We ate early so it might get noisier as the night progresses -- everything was delicious and fantastic. Service was excellent, this is now my favorite of the Mozza restaurants.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best meals we haveOne of the best meals we have had in Los Angeles in 25 years. The Diavolo chicken was moist and perfectly spicey and we can't stop talking about the olive oil cake!
Can't wait to go back4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food with large portions,Good food with large portions, would suggest this restaurant for big groups that are very hungry.
Intamate family eating.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for chef watchingOne of the best dinng experiences in LA we've had in many years. We sat a the counter ,and watched the chefs do their magic with pork, lamb, and short ribs. It was fun to ask them questions as they grilled. The quality of the meat was superior and made the meal. The space is small yet tavern esqu. I found no weaknesses , save that they did not have the tomahawk or the duck, and we were there a the opening. It would be nice to assure the presence of their signature dishes. Although we also love the osteria and pizzeria, chi spacca is the true gem of the 3 in this complex4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent if you're into houseExcellent if you're into house cured meats and expertly crafted terrines! We also enjoyed a great cut of pork from under the shoulder that was cooked to perfection! This place keeps the standard of the other two Osteria Mozza and Pizzeria Mozza establishments nearby. The tiramisu was also excellent and the first I really enjoyed (not the biggest tiramisu fan but I've tried it at a number of high end restaurants before!.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat find-- wonderful food!Outstanding food and service!! Small, intimate restaurant with a great vibe. Service is friendly and professional. Very impressed!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMLast whole hog dinner. We went to the last hog dinner. This was our third time for this meal along with several meals at the Friday seasonal dinners. We are sorry to see them go. Chef Chad always did an outstanding job.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and service.Interesting menu, excellent food and wine, very gracious service. A real addition to the neighborhood.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMwe really dug this place.we really dug this place. great smells of smoke cooking, jazz background music, knowledgeable wait staff. All the meat items we tried were exceptional, amberjack fish too fishy tasting-only thin we didn't like The whole vibe of the place is like a little New York Gem
Definitely will be back, but not too often as the price point is higher than we are used to.
We had a guest and she was blown away with the whole experience.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMChad Colby's charcuterie aloneChad Colby's charcuterie alone is worth the price of admission.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect! Best chef in LA:Perfect! Best chef in LA: Chad Colby. Tomahawk pork chop to die for.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
