Catalan is a Mediterranean themed restaurant with an emphasis on Italian and Spanish cuisine.
Launched in 2012 by father and son duo Mark and Drew Davis, Catalan sources its products exclusively from local and sustainable sources whenever possible with the goal of providing its clientele with a farm to table dining experience. RAMMY Award winner, Fine Dining Restaurant of the year.

  • "Had an early dinner (5:30). 21.95 3course 5-6pm every day. Also all wines 5.00 per glass, regularly 8or9. I had paella which was wonderful. Wife had pork tenderloin, also top notch. Had fried chicken livers as appetizer, wonderful. Wife had hearts of romaine with Caesar dressing, great! All in all a terrific dining experience. Service was smooth, fast and gracious."

  • "Excellent meal: Bottle of Tempranillo; 3 Tappas - calmari, chicken wings and roasted stuffed red sweet peppers; lamb belly; coffee. As soon as the order had been taken, a bread board with dipping olive oil and olives arrived. A guitarist played nice background music all evening. Hostess, our servers and valet staff all very professional and friendly. Patio is a courtyard in centre of building. Very enjoyable. Cost: bottle of Tempranillo - $32; Mixed Tappas - $21; Lamb Belly appetiser - $16; decaf $4. Total $73 + $5.84 tax and I gave a $15 gratuity."

  • "We went to Catalan for a first try of Spanish Dinning. The dirt impression was a very Restaraunt! Nice atmosphere, not too loud and lots of fun. The menu sounded amazing ! We started with the 3 course tapas which sounded great on paper but the skewers of chorizo and manchego were dry and the octopus was a little rubbery. The pears wrapped in Serrano ham were Amazing! Totally recommend those! For mains my wife had the mussels (an appetizer as she loves mussels) and was quite happy with them. She also had the Kale on Te side which was quite salty. I had the Paella, for which I had great expectations of flavor, but found it a little bland and lacking something. Overall, the service was great, the food was only ok and the ambience was nice."

The Spanish Stew with duck confit and Serrano Ham was salty to the point of being almost inedible and the pasta dish with octopus and bone marrow was extremely bland. The bone marrow was very greasy and fatty. Our waiter was very accommodating and the ambience on the patio was very nice."

  • "What a great dinner we had at Catalan in Rancho Mirage! Pleasant surroundings including a nice patio, friendly service, and great food at reasonable prices. My wife had a tasty selection of tapas, while I enjoyed an excellent paella, chock full of seafood and sausage. We don't get to this area on a regular basis, but when we are back, we will return to Catalan. We found out about Catalan through Open Table, one of the prime reasons we use their service!"

  • "Went with another couple to Catalan for dinner. When we walked in we were taken back by the beautiful ambiance. Was not expecting such a lovely setting. We decided to sit on the patio, as it looked quite inviting. It was!!! Beautiful patio and terrific service. I had wanted the veal chop, but was told it was breaded and fried. I don't like breaded and fried food, so the server encouraged mew to order the veal steak. It was disappointing. Not much flavor and not nearly as tasty as a veal chop. Everyone else at our table ordered the fish stew and felt it was good, but not great. I don't know if I will go back to the restaurant, although I loved the decor and service, but the food was not to my liking."

  • "We selected our meals from the prix-fixe menu available from 5-6 pm, and it was not only delicious, but a huge bargain at $21.95 with generously-sized $5 glasses of wine and a complimentary plate of olives, bread, and dipping sauces. We both ordered the crispy chicken livers as an appetizer (excellent). My husband enjoyed the jidori chicken, and the crispy smashed potatoes that accompanied my flat iron steak with yummy sauce were to die for. The house-made ice cream was a perfect dessert. Service was very attentive. It is evident that the owner/chef puts a lot of thought and care into his menu, ingredients, and food preparation. We haven't yet had a comparable meal in the desert, and can't wait to go back."

The crispy lamb belly wasn't crispy but it was delicious. The scallops were uniquely presented with a savory crumble. The churros were fresh and crunchy. We enjoyed the evening and the fact too that the tables are not too close.a lovely experience."

This time, however, the chef got a bit carried away with the garlic. Both dishes had far too much garlic! If they stick to their original recipe, all is good."

Since it was our first time, we ordered the mediterrean classic, paella. Unfortunately for us it was too smoky flavored from all of the chorizo. We will return and try something else."

The menu is authentic and uses only the finest and freshest ingredients. The wine list is excellent. Service was friendly and attentive. From the valet on, you receive professional attention. Definitely a place to return to!"

  • "We know this was not a San Francisco restaurant, but paying a little attention to detail would go a long way. Guests should not be required to tell the staff how to set the table. If you have oysters on the half shell on the menu, you should not serve the oysters without the proper silverware required to eat them. We waited 10 minutes to have our first taste of oyster, because we just did not want to use our tongues to remove the raw oyster from the shell. Sauces not intended for dipping require a serving spoon! Why make us wait for that? Servers should not leave the kitchen with an entree, without being ready to serve it."

  • "it was Valentines Day and even though the restaurant was very busy, when we arrived 20 minutes early, we were seated immediately. The waitress was friendly, helpful and took a moment to chat and make sure that everything was going well. The food was consistantly excellent through all three courses, the star being the scallops. Both owners stopped by our table to briefly make sure we were happy with everything. Their pride in their restaurant was very evident."

Our waitress Marisella was friendly, knowledgeable & attentive. Nice wine list, & was especially pleased to find Gundlach Bundschu Mountain Cuvee - we ordered 2 bottles! I think this is a great restaurant, which could be instantly made the more so by having a better dress code for their hostesses (they wore leotards - not very classy), and by adding an authentic spanish sherry list to their beverage options."
