Diner Reviews
  • "We had an excellent lunch experience, the appetizers and food was great. The appetizers were big enough to be full meals. All three of us enjoyed our food and we had other choices that we want to try next time. As a vegan, it was nice to have several vegan choices on the menu. The service was excellent as well. They opened the doors for outside and it was very comfortable. One of us also had eaten breakfast there and highly recommended it. Can't wait to go back and try breakfast as well."

  • "Had an overnighter in Sacramento and wandered around downtown to find someplace for breakfast. Found the Capitol Garage and loved it. Fun décor, great service and big portions!"

  • "I decided to go to Capitol Garage last Sunday because they offer bottomless mimosas for $8 AND it was a second date with a guy I'd recently met. I am glad I made a reservation because it was quite busy and we were seated right away. The place is small, so it's better for intimate groups or couples. I ordered the Monte Cristo and my date ordered the Pork Rancheros and we both LOVED our meals. It was hard to decide what to order since everything looked great! They also have vegan/vegetarian and GF options, too. We also got the Donuggets (yeah, donut nuggets!) and they were awesome. The mimosas are great -- the servers constantly make sure you're filled up. Overall, I would absolutely go back! Can't wait to try their other menu items!"

  • "This was amazing with bottomless mimosas at only $6.00 added per person with purchase of food. The only thing is the table was a little bit dirty with some dried tomato caught between the iron wrought. However, they were super attentive to make sure out mimosas were bottomless and to us. Service was amazing. It was Sunday brunch so everyone was chatting about their plans and catching up. Not loud but rather lively. I'm sure the bottomless mimosas helped spur conversation. Lol definitely recommend making reservations through open table. It would have been a 25 minute wait if we hadn't."

  • "The restaurant was very crowded when we got there at noon on Saturday, so it was not surprising that the waiter sometimes was slow at checking back with our table. The noise level was deafening, it gave me a headache. I did not care for the breakfast potatoes which were deep-fried rather than pan-fried. The omelet was rubbery and the toast was too dark."

  • "Had not been since they've completely down sized their menu and stopped serving fresh fruit and breakfast breads with brunch entrees. Will no be going back."

  • "This is the fifth time I have made an RSVP for my family to come celebrate a finish line victory in the Sacramento area; but, the experience this time might mean it's the last time. Previously, we've had no trouble with RSVP, even if it was RIGHTNEXTTOTHEDOOR (terrible!) but this time, they weren't even CLOSE to having it prepared and even continued to serve newcomers to the table that was supposed to be ours. We ended up bussing and putting together our own tables to seat ourselves when a VERY unkind server interrupted me to ask if I had a reservation and to complain that another table of hers needed the table WE were bussing. Needless to say, the only reason we stayed is because Garrett is a great server. And we were starving."

  • "The menu looked good. We had a reservation and were seated promptly but then waited after being seated for several minutes while servers walked by our table without saying anything to us, not even a "we'll be right with you" so we left."

  • "I went to Capitol Garage for a birthday brunch with 9 people. We made a reservation, and our table was ready upon arrival and we were seated right away. We were greeted promptly and gave our drink order upon seating. My friends and I are brunch people! So bottomless mimosa's are a must for our group, especially for a birthday. It was our first time and did not know what to expect. Garett was our server and he was AWESOME! They do not mess around with their mimosas. He made sure that we were taken care of. Garett took a pic of our group for me even though he was busy, and still managed to always refill drinks. The food was great too. Everyone loved what they ordered.we will definitely be going back and will be requesting Garett again."

  • "We took my 80 year old parents to the Sac Comm Theater and I wanted to find a restaurant within walking distance. Looked online came across Capitol Garage. Read the reviews, reviewed the menu and decided to go. When we first walked in, the vibrant, bar-like atmosphere took me by surprise and I wondered if this was an appropriate place for dinner with my folks. We decided to stay and we are so glad that we did. The food and the service was excellent and the value of the meal was remarkable. I had the grilled top sirloin bowl for $13 and not only was the beef prepared perfectly it was a large portion. Waiter was attentive and pleasant. We have found our spot for dinner before attending an event at the Convention Center or Community Theater."

  • "Capitol Garage holds true to it's eclectic urban vibe serving fresh tasting cuisine and down to earth service. Me and my husband went for our first time on Valentines Day, parking was literally right next door, we were greeted by a sweet spunky hostess, seated right away and greeted 10 minutes later by our waiter who let us as guests take the lead. We had the potato cakes with bacon and beer butter, grilled chicken w/mushroom risotto and ribs with more potato cakes finished by a dark chocolate cake which tasted like a decadent truffle. Truth be told, I wouldn't recommend it as a place to eat but rather a place to have coffee and dessert. Great experience overall."

  • "Had brunch over President's Day weekend. The food was good. Bottomless mimosas were wonderful! I had the spicy pastrami scramble. My guest had the traditional benedict, I believe. The benedict came out nice and hot and was delicious, or so I was told. The pastrami scramble came out cool to the touch, but fully cooked. Either the chef wasn't informed that they were to be served together, or mistimed the benedict. Too bad, because the pastrami scramble was something I had never seen before and was good. If it had been served hot, it would have been amazing! Unfortunately, I could tell that it had been waiting for 5-10 minutes until the benedict was done. The outside area was good. The heaters are nice, and lots of downtown sounds :)"

  • "We chose this place as a change from Cafeteria across the street before the theater. We called to say we would be late and the held our table. Super busy, super loud, a little slow with the drinks, but our friendly waiter was really busy. Hubby enjoyed his burger and I enjoyed the pulled pork. Not a very extensive menu, very casual place. A good value."

  • "There are lots of tempting choices on the brunch menu, which I like. I had the portabella benedict; it was very yummy even without the hollandaise. The side of fruit (subbed for potatoes) was beautiful and included a nice variety, but it was kind of pain peeling the orange slices. My husband had the brisket benedict, which was flavorful, but he thought the brisket was rather dry. The place is packed for brunch--glad we made a reservation--but the service was good, though coffee refills were a little slow."

  • "We usually enjoy the Capitol Garage, but Wednesday was horrible due to extremely poor service. 30 minutes to take your order and an hour to receive it, with no apology! Usually enjoy this restaurant."

  • "Ive been here 3 times, thinking maybe it would be better or maybe it was a bad night... EVERY time the service has been horrible!! They are EXTREMELY slow and they really dont seem to care at all. The food is OK but not worth the terrible service. You hear someone at every table complain.. I will not be going back. I will be going across the street to Cafeteria 15L. MUCH better service and good food as well..."

  • "My friend lives in Sacramento and likes this place because it is vegan friendly. We made reservations but were a little late because we couldn't find parking nearby. The lady said they gave our table away but we are pretty sure there wasn't one for us since it was packed. We ate outside which was a little cold but we were starving. Our waiter was nice but a little slow. We asked for any pastry to split while we were waiting & he took a long time to bring it. However, it was a blueberry muffin with chocolate chips in it & we both agreed it was amazing. My friend had the tofu scramble & I had the burrito which was huge. It was a little spicier than I usually like but I enjoyed it. Cute place to try but I am in no hurry to go back."

  • "Went with friends for brunch, drawn by the promise of a bottomless mimosa. (The promise was fulfilled.) Sat on the patio as inside was completely packed, but the heat lamps helped. I usually have a hard time at brunch because I'm not only vegetarian, but also gluten-free. The others in my group, however, love wheat and meat, so there aren't many places that cater to both. I was pleasantly surprised. There was a large selection of brunch items, and when the food arrived, it wasn't just passable, it was quite good. Service was impeccable - attentive without being overbearing. I'll definitely be back."

  • "We made a 5pm reservation because we had tickets to the Convention Center. Wanted a leisurely dinner of about 2 hours. The waiter acknowledged our reservation but there were plenty of early pm seating. The Waiter, cant remember his name, but he was tall, earlobe jewelry, was very informative, paced the meal and allowed us to linger over dessert and coffee for as long as we wanted without rushing us when the place became busy. My third time for different occasions at the Gararge. Satisfied every time. Will come back again. Love to sit outside during the spring. Give the waiter a raise. Sincerely, Bill Muha"

  • "I went with my parents, finance and his parents, to Sunday brunch. I've never been to Capitol Garage before. It was a nice place with a good selection. I had the portobello Benedict, which was out of this world, and my future MIL had the French toast, which she said was the best she's had in a while. My future FIL has been going gluten-free and said the gluten-free pancakes were actually quite good! My mom enjoyed the bottomless mimosas. I wished that I would have known there were going to be pin-up pics on the table and that it would be a bit too loud to be able to talk. For those reasons I was a little embarrassed about my selection of Capitol Garage, but otherwise it was great."

  • "I was excited to go to the Capitol Garage. Unfortunately the experience was not as expected. The service was very poor, we had to go to the bar to get water for the table after asking 2x. Food was fair. Maybe it was an off night for the staff, but given all the great restaurants in Sac, your money is better spent elsewhere"

  • "Two of their main dishes were not available after ordering the other night. They do not have a huge menu to begin with but not to have these main dishes was incredible. Waitress was good and pleasant. 3 in the 8 party had to reorder due to lack of salmon and steak. We will not be returning nor recommending this location. Their loss as we usually have a large party for dinner."

  • "We finally tried Capitol Garage for our New Years/Anniversary dinner and were glad we did. We started with the beer/cheese risotto cakes which had a wonderful combination of flavors between the bacon, cheese and the sauce - definitely worth trying. Entrees were the salmon bowl and the rosemary chicken bowl. Both bowls were cooked and seasoned perfectly and again, the flavor combination was delicious. Another bonus was that both appetizer and entrees went very well with their house Chardonnay (from Mondavi which was a surprise - most house wines are from some obscure winery). The only small drawbacks were the double chocolate cake which was a little on the dry side and the noise level - energetic, but hard to converse with tablemates."

  • "This was the second time (same waiter) I had a bad experience at this restaurant and I will not dine there again. My orders have been totally incorrect and the waiter didn't even offer to quickly replace it. It did not enjoy the entree I was served and I still had to pay for it. Service stinks!"
