Diner Reviews
  • "We've been eating at Café Normandie for many years. The staff has had very little turnover and have become great friends. Owner remains the primary chef and is there every night. The menu stays the same and offer an excellent array of options from vegetarian to great traditional French foods (our daughter lives in France). By staying with their strengths they never have an "off night". Wine list is not extensive but fits the food perfectly, and is priced decently. Great place for Brunch or a nice dinner."

  • "We had been to Cafe Normandie several years ago and it was small and the menu was mostly crepes. We were very surprised this time. They have moved a few doors down and have a larger place. The menu was extensive. We had roasted duck with raspberry sauce and it was cooked perfectly, crispy and not fatty. The salads and desserts were wonderful. The place was crowded and we looked at other table's food. Everything looked great."

  • "I really enjoyed every aspect of our visit to Cafe Normandie. Our waitress was very prompt and attentive. The appetizer sampler was a wonderful mix of seafood items, vegetables, cheese, and meats. The sea bass with mango entree was superb! The raspberry tarts for dessert completed a very relaxing and enjoyable meal!. We loved it!"

  • "This is our favorite downtown restaurant. Not only is the food delicious and consistently delivered hot and appetizing, the staff is wonderful. All are very personable, knowledgeable about wines, and would do anything for you. If anything, our only complaint would be it's too popular and sometimes gets too crowded!"

  • "Loved the server. I like to ask the server to pair wines with courses, and she was very game for that. She was otherwise attentive but not too intrusive, which is just what you want. Food was good, but not transcendent or anything. Although, they had smelt on special, which was fun. When was the last time you had smelt? Nice wine list with ample selection by the glass. Ambience nice, and location is great. Not just second fiddle to Les Folies, which is a bit more formal. As is Osteria down the street. I still think Osteria is the best restaurant on Main St., but you're not always up for that, and Cafe Normandie is definitely worthy of go-to status. We were underwhelmed when we tried the place years ago, but have changed our tune."

  • "My husband and I spent a lot of time in Europe and weren't too sure about going to this restaurant to only be disappointed, however it was exactly the opposite! The staff was really quite nice and the food was exceptional. We tried it during the Annapolis restaurant week, and while it helped with the costs it was still a pricey evening... but well worth it for a special night out! We would certainly do it again!"

  • "We have eaten in Annapolis a lot at various restaurants but somehow missed this little gem. Food was excellent, service great and wine half price is yiu go early. We will go back as soon as we can."

  • "Whether it's grilled artichoke followed by French onion soup, escargot and baked quail, or a salad and the mango seabass, Cafe Normandie is sure to please. A very pleasant mix of flavors, textures, and umami in every bite; a near perfect start to a night out with friends or family."

  • "The resteraunt was very nice but the seating is way to close. I realize they may be trying to optimize space but sometimes it is uncomfortable. Other then that I have nothing negative to say. Food was amazing."

  • "Great place for brunch, but was disappointed in the dessert menu. I would recommend to order dessert somewhere else. Meals were delicious, but the portion was a little smaller than expected."

  • "We had not been back in a while. Had a great meal. Few inexpensive wines to choose from. Nice Malbec was $38."

  • "Appetizers, drinks, ambience and service were great. Portions were good size. Rosemary chicken was good and a huge portion. Osso bucco was drowned in sauce. Beef bourguignon was tasty, but short on vegetables. A little expensive for the food quality."

  • "My husband and I love this little gem in downtown Annapolis. They have a great waitstaff and are very attentative. Recommend it highly. Our meals have always been wonderful and truly worth the price."

  • "Very nice restaurant located on Annapolis's main street. Food and service is always consistently good. We go to this restaurant when we are in the area. Nice menu and wine list. We never feel rushed, and are able to take our time to enjoy our meal."

  • "Great restaurant week deal. Food was great. Delicious and perfect size portions. Very accommodating and sweet with our kids. Definitely we will be coming back"

  • "Nice menu. Food was good to very good though short of excellent compared to other regional high-end restaurants. Service by knowledgable staff was very good. Tables are packed together like sardines, significantly detracting from the experience. For the price, not a place I would likely visit again."

  • "The service and food were great! The trout is amazing but the beef could have used a bit more seasoning or salt"

  • "It was restaurant week in Annapolis we tried the three course special. The four of us tried a variety and the cream of crab and onion soups were very good, the roast duck was the best. However, it was only two course meal as the dessert was spoon full portions so it was not a deal and I would have rather have ordered off the regular menu. The seating was horrendous; four seated in the kitchen entrance. On the way out I looked to see if there were any good tables and there were all way to close unless you wanted the fish bowl street window table"

  • "My girlfriends and I dined here during the areas resturaunt week. It s a busy time but our waitress was so nice didn't make us feel rushed at all. The cream of crab soup was rich and full of delicious crab meat. The wine list was quite long and reasonably priced. The fireplace was on and it was warm and inviting. The main course was amazing beef was so tender and fresh vegetables. Overall a great dining experience."

  • "Had dinner here during restaurant week in Annapolis and the restaurant was at full capacity. This is a small footprint building with booths along the walls and tiny tables back to back along the centerline. The result is that you sit so close to the next tables (less than a foot) that it might as well be a communal dining hall. As the waiters rush back and forth with wine and food they bump into tables and jostle diners--not because they are bad waiters, but because there is not enough room for them to navigate effectively. When new diners arrive and try to squeeze between the tables you need to remain vigilant or risk having your dinner swept away. Unfortunately, this all detracted from our experience even though the food was good."

  • "A group of 6 of us went out for restaurant week, we arrived and were immediately sat in a window table that overlooked Main St., it was beautiful, our server, Nathan was VERY knowledgeable about quite literally everything, from pricing, to pronunciations, he definitely knows what he's doing. The food was amazing. The beef bourgionne was bland, and the penne was over cooked, maybe even recooked, but other than that, the rest was outstanding! With the 6 of us I think we definitely tried one of everything offered on the restaurant week menu. We got 3 bottles of wine, 2 french, 1 California. It was half price wine night too so it was a definite bonus. Will be back again!"

  • "This is a restaurant I can always expect exquisite food. Recently went for Restaurant Week and loved the options for the fixed price menu especially the appetizer Brie with honey and the dinner entree Trout Almondine."

  • "We went to Cafe Normandie for Valentine's Day dinner. They offered a prix fixe menu; 4 courses including a glass of champagne for $95 per person. I thought the price was a little steep for the menu, but the food was fantastic. The restaurant was a little crowded for 8:30pm and there was a DJ playing love songs...not overly romantic, but not a dance club either. By the time we finished dinner (around 10:30), the DJ was starting to really interact with the few patrons still there and we really started having fun. I think the normal menu is a bit more reasonably priced so we'll try it again."

  • "I made the reservations on Open Table several weeks prior to Valentine's Day. I did not know there was a special menu for the night until I arrived at the restaurant. The dinner was lovey, food great and service was very busy but when he was able, took good care of us. Felt a little production line is my only complaint. It was expensive $$$$ and a lot more food than I would have ordered off the menu. Maybe a smaller selection for smaller eaters would have been a nice alternate choice with a lower cost. Red Rose at the end was a nice touch! We will go back but not during holidays."

  • "I know that Valentines Day is a special occasion but the prices Cafe Normandie charged were way out of touch. The food and service were good but for $95 per person for the amount you received was horrible. I knew there would be a fixed menu but the price was never reveled online. Almost $250 for two dinners and a drink are out of the question. That will be the last time I frequent ther for a special treat."

  • "This was our favorite restaurant before kids and we hadn't been back in years. It didn't disappoint! We went with two other couples and they agreed. The food is unbelievable - absolutely delicious.. The service was excellent, just a few minor things that were quickly resolved without anyone at the table having to say anything. I look forward to returning soon. Thank you, Café Normandie for a wonderful evening!!!"

  • "The service was excellent, the food was delicious, and we were accomodated highly (they served an appetizer at lunch that wasn't featured on the menu until dinner). I would definitely go back again. I have already recommended this restaurant to others since dining two days ago."

  • "We went to Cafe Normandie for my husbands birthday. We were seated near the fireplace at the best table in the house. Food and service was excellent. We had duck, scallops, and fish specials. Everything was cooked perfectly, good portions, and nice presentations. This is an Annapolis gem and one of our favorite dinner spots."

  • "I found this restaurant on a general restaurant search for Annapolis. The reviews seemed good so we decided to give it a try. We were quickly seated when we arrive for our 7:30 reservations. It was comfortable and had a romantic feel. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered the calamari appetizer followed by two different pasta dishes. From the freshly baked bread to the puff pastry ice cream dessert we found that every item was outstanding. Very fresh and flavorful dishes. Portions were perfect. Highly recommend this restaurant. We will be back."

  • "We always enjoy this restaurant for it's food (so many good things to choose from), ambiance and attentive service. The one thing that soured our visit was that my husband asked if anchovies were included with the caesar salad. Our server responded that they were not but they could add them. When we got the bill we were charged $2.00 for the anchovies. On mentioning, politely, to the server that if there is an extra charge for something he should tell the customer, he responded "I didn't think I had to". Wish I'd heard that response before I tipped him."

  • "Great food and wine selection. Jean Luis has run the restaurant for over 20 years and continues to drive creativity and excellence in the menu. 1/2 price bottles of wine on M and W make those great days to introduce yourself to a gem of Annapolis."
