A word from Café Napoli
When Tony Pietoso opened the original Cafe Napoli in the '80s, it quickly became a success. So Successful, in fact, that it moved to a bigger location at 7754 Forsyth Blvd. The restaurant continued to flourish with its generous portions of regional Italian specialties. Cafe Napoli has recently undergone a facelift and has added Bar Napoli next door. The swank cocktail lounge has soft lighting and a separate wine room that can accommodate 30 diners. The kitchen is headed by chef Jeff Davis, who has been with the restaurant for several years. Fortunato Pietoso, Tony's brother, has also returned to the kitchen. Tony makes rounds chatting with customers, many of whom appear to be on a first-name basis with him. The sons Ande and Kye split their time between the Bar and Cafe, as they are being groomed to take over the family business. Cafe Napoli is a must visit when in the St. Louis area. Some guests include Tony Bennett, Gloria Estefen, Joe Torre and Arnold Palmer to name a few.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I always visit Cafe Napoli and it is always consistent. I had a dinner meeting with a top clien and we were greeted warmly and went directly to our table for our reservation. Adelle was our waiter and he was great giving us great recomendations and offering the evening specials. If you want a rib in filet, there is none better. All in all a wonderful dining expperience"

  • "Took another couple here for a Saturday night reservation and we were seated right away. Ordered some great wine and took our time looking at the menu. Never felt rushed by the waiter who picked the right times to tell us about specials and show us a tray with prime cuts of meat and seafood with great descriptions of how they are prepared. The entire staff took great care that our experience was good. The food was excellent. I had a Caesar Salad and Shrimp Scampi. Others ordered Chicken Parmagiana and Salmon. Everything was wonderful."

  • "I think that the specials were over priced for the quality of the food. We were very disappointed!"

  • "The overall experience was good. I had a large group (6) coming in for the busy lunch time. I did have a table reserved, it was all set up and ready when we arrived, and the service was pretty fast despite it being the lunch hour. We were in and out with the hour! The food was good, we decided to get dessert and LOVED the creme brulee! Desserts were wonderful. I would come here again for work functions or special occasions."

  • "Food was so tasty and presentation to boot. loved how they brought chilled forks for salad. They were very present and made us feel important. Service great and waiter very friendly and personable. We have been before and food and service is always consistently wonderful."

  • "Good food, great value outstanding and discrete service. Best place for business lunch in St. Louis."

  • "A few things that happened that made me feel like a second class citizen. For that I blame our waiter. The food was very good in spite of the waiter who gave us two word answers when we asked about certain entrees. When I asked him what accompanied the veal marsala, he said 'pasta'. Luckily my husband caught that I forgot to order a salad and reminded me since the waiter had no interest in inquiring if I wanted anything else. My veal marsala came with a pasta side, in a MARINARA sauce! REALLY? A red sauce with a brown marsala sauce? Weird. I sent back the side and requested a white or butter sauce, which I then got and it was actually delicious (with garlic, yum). Overall we felt he was hurrying our service to turn the table. Shame on them."

  • "Consistently the best restaurant in Saint Louis. I've been to Cafe Napoli over 20 times and haven't had a bad experience. It's hard to find a restaurant that can consistently deliver everytime! Most recent visit was last week and was by far the best. I was just getting back in to town after being delayed for multiple hours and didn't arrive to the restaurant until after 10pm. I was welcomed as if I walked into my home. It's not just the food and service that keeps me coming back it's just the all around feel. Being treated as family is definitely what this restaurant does best. Can't wait to be back in Saint Louis next week."

  • "Gluten free pasta was great, but ordered salad, I was disappointed with this, didn't know it was just balsamic vinegar, thought it was a dressing, very boring, only lettuce and onion on plate, when mentioned to waiter he just said no, its only vinegar, ripped off due to this, but wasn't comfortable sending back with guest I was with, wished waiter offered."

  • "I end up in St Louis almost every year for business, and my wife & I eat here annually at least once (and often twice) while in town, for the past 20 years. The place can be (and usually is) pretty busy, not much room, but food & service are excellent, never rushed, always plenty of time to enjoy the food and your date's company. Bartender makes excellent cocktails. (Wine list looks extensive, but I don't know enough about wines to judge the quality.)"

  • "Our experience there was wonderful. We were celebrating our one year wedding anniversary and everyone there made it a special night for us and that is without us even telling them we were there to celebrate our anniversary. Our waiter Jerome was fantastic as was the food, all four of us were raving about the quality of food and service. It reminded me of Al Bakers, back in the day! Will definitely return!"

  • "I was there for dinner on feb. 20th and ordered the Napoli Salad with grilled chicken. I specifically asked for no onion on my salad and inquired whether the chicken was freshly grilled, as I did not want cold pre-grilled chicken. the waiter assured me that the chicken was freshly grilled. when the salad was served, there were onions in the salad, and the chicken was cold - it had previously been cooked. also, the salad was not evenly dressed so parts had dressing and parts did not. finally, the bread was very hard and clearly not fresh bread."

  • "Went for a special Valentine's night out. Food was very good. Service was very good. Table was AWFUL! We were stuck in a corner where one of us had a nice view of the lighted outdoor trees and the other was at the end of the bar and could only stare at the wall unless turning their chair sideways. Also, we were so close to the next table we may as well have sat with them. Made reservations 2 weeks in advance so it wasn't like they had to squeeze us in. We can't get out much with kids and can't afford a place like this except on a special occasion once a year or so. We were looking very forward to this & $200 later we were very disappointed and would rather have spent our precious time out somewhere else. The experience was uncomfortable."

A good majority of our Customers are from Europe or the Middle East, and all of them have really enjoyed the dining experience at your restaurant. The staff is always super professional, and knowledgeable about what is available for us, both food and drink wise. Dining out at Café Napoli never disappoints! Great job!"

  • "My wife and I were visiting St. Louis. We usually go to the Hill for Italian cuisine; Zia's, Canetto's, etc. Friends told us about Cafe Napoli in Clayton, so we thught we'd give it a go. Made reservations for dinner on a weekday. Very cozy little ristorante. The Linguine Con Vongale Veraci was delectable. Good wine selection, albeit al little pricey. Definitely will return."

  • "This restaurant has been around for over 30 years. The ambiance is nice and friendly. The wine list sports excellent selections. We had seared scallops and broiled salmon - both done nicely. The tiramisu was fantastic! If there is one thing that could have made the evening even better, it was the waiter - appeared to be aloof and not very helpful in the (house) wine selection process. I'd still recommend this fine restaurant."

  • "The food, service and staff were all great. Limited parking on site limits the ability to park easily unless valet is used. Unfortunately, we were placed in the bar seating for our special event--our 28th anniversary--and were subjected to a very loud and irritating crowd in the bar area. Not the ideal setting to celebrate a special event. However, the management went to great pains to address our concerns, once they became aware of our dissatisfaction. They responded appropriately."

  • "This was another great experience there. The server was great and he did a great job helping us figure out a good way to do dinner for a 2.5 year old. They had a veal chop pounded for a special that my wife loved. I had veal piccata which I enjoyed but it seems like the recipe might have changed a little or that they are putting more sauce on the plate now. I prefer it with less sauce and just capers instead of mushrooms would more enjoyable for me. The calamari is done very well and is very tender. We will definitely come back here whenever we want top notch Italian food."

  • "Wonderful wonderful, pricey but well worth it for a special occasion. The ambience is very elegant and intimate. The food Is scrumptious, beautifully prepared and presented. Our table of four had scallops and French cut veal chops prepared two ways Saltimboca style with a luscious sauce and grilled with a porcini mushroom wine reduction sauce. The food was all exquisite. Our birthday person was given a decadent chocolate and ice cream confection. Can't wait to go back there again!"
