The food and service were exceptional (ask for Jeff). Both my husband and I had the Filet and it was "melt in your mouth" delicious. The noise was louder than I would have liked but because we had a table off to the side it wasn't overwhelming. But once seated at our table away from the busy bar and with a view of the now-lighted Bay Bridge, my wife and I felt very at ease and un-rushed. While perhaps not what you would call a romantic place, we found it easy to share conversation of a personal nature. Food and wine selections were ample and what you would expect, and the service and presentation surpassed our rather high expectations. The service was very attentive and the staff allowed us to experience a leisurely evening, as requested. Our wine, a Bordeaux Blanc, was enjoyable. We did, however, experience two moments of staff confusion: The wine steward delivered a non-ordered bottle of wine to our table, after our selected Bordeaux was opened, and commenced to initiate opening before we stopped him...he then departed to locate the correct table. We both had the filet mignon, which was served with an interesting, mildly spicy pepper and with caramelized mushrooms. Their drinks list is superb; I had a half-bottle of premier cru Gevrey-Chambertin, full-bodied enough for the steak, but light enough for the crab salad (we always look forward to that). My date had a Harmony, a nice, sweet, non-alcoholic drink.
Dessert? Super! Strawberries and (sour) cream, choc mousse, and choc creme brulee (yes, three desserts); a wonderful French soft cheese; and a glass of sweet wine from Burgundy.
