A word from BLD

Within its sunny space BLD (breakfast, lunch, dinner) is both a popular neighborhood spot as well as a great destination restaurant. This latest venture of husband and wife team Neal and Amy Knoll Fraser with partner Richard Drapkin, is another successful collaboration of the talented team from Grace Restaurant just down the street. At BLD diners can remain comfortable all day long in a friendly, upscale café atmosphere. The enticing space and the service are approachable from the moment the doors open early in the morning until they finally close late at night. BLD has become the go-to spot for all day gourmet comfort food. House-made pastries, salads, sandwiches, and more feature seasonal ingredients. The all-day charcuterie and artisanal cheese section may just be LA’s answer to the ultimate bar food. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "This used to be a dependable place for us for a casual meal, good, fresh food. Salad was tasty, as usual, but both of our entrees were mediocre. Fish was bland, vegetables overcooked. Disappointing."

  • "The service is exceptional there. I would say the servers are very helpful and nice but the food there for dinner is not great. We ordered the tacos (which was the special on Tuesday), the pork shank, the vegetable salad, the salmon, the prosciutto pizza. The pizza and the pork shank were okay but the rest was just not up to par."

  • "Could not get a reservation for Saturday brunch so decided to go Friday morning...very good food and very good service. Highly recommend this lovely spot!"

  • "i had not been to BLD in a year or two and was pleasantly surprised. nice changes to the menu, great salads and vegetarian options and my friends who had fish and meat also enjoyed their meal."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner at BLD. The food selection was varied from breakfast to dinner, served all day. We had the short rib. Cooked to perfection on a bed of something delicious...but the chef's got a heavy salt hand. Service is attentive and helpful. Bring a sweater...at least the night we were there it had to be 60° inside. Save room for dessert."

  • "BLD's pastry chef did a special doughnut and bourbon pairing on National Doughnut Day... Yum! Enjoyed the coffee cardamom doughnut and Bullet bourbon."

  • "I make reservations here when I want to "wow" someone with food and service....the location is quaint, you can bring a pet for outside, and walk around to local shops after you've filled your belly. It is a must visit when I go home to Los Angeles."

  • "Delicious food, comfortable aesthetically pleasing decor and a great place to talk. Service friendly and competent. Love this place for business meetings or meeting friends"

  • "Our waiter was truly wonderful and he suggested that we order a blueberry pancake which we did. It was wonderful as was the food that we ordered. We will return soon."

  • "I had the pancakes and chicken sausage. Both were so good and the serving was big. I did not finish my meal. Service was great. "

  • "From the bus persons, servers to the managers, they welcome and treat you like family. It is obvious that they care very much that you are getting what you want and how you want it. "

  • "They have the greatest pancakes, as well as other pastries. Their dishes are fresh and come out like mother made them The home made look and taste is to die for. All of the servers are very nice and advise you on the best way to enjoy your meal."

  • "We sought out a neighborhood place for dinner with my adult children, and BLD was recommended. We were there on the early side, so had the place to ourselves at the start, so we had great attention from our server. The food was outstanding - loved the flexibility of structuring our own plates, and the chicken and steak were prepared perfectly. My daughter had the lamb burger and it will definitely bring her back. Overall, we enjoyed the evening and will be recommending this restaurant to others."

  • "Received a conf stating "Should plans change, let us know. We look forward to serving u. BLD gladly accepts reservations for parties of 5 or more for weekend brunch. If u arrive w a party smaller than 5, reservation will be cancelled & u will be added to the wait list." Well plans changed & my party of 5 became a party of 8. I called 30 minutes prior to inform them & was told they would cancel & would not change to party of 8. I tried changing it in person & was told the same thing. We were finally seated at a table for 5 with 3 extra chairs added to it (cramped to say the least) and THAT only happened because one of my guests (who is a rather dashing casting agent) spoke briefly with the host. Hmmmmm. Really???"

  • "We went to BLD for dinner to celebrate our older son's graduation from college. We are all adventurous eaters. We found so many things on the menu that we wanted to try that we could stop ordering. All of our food was delicious from appetizers to desserts. Some of us had experience of BLD for brunch and lunch, but this was our first time for dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We are very familiar with a lot of the restaurants in the same area but we will definitely go back here. "

  • "Love BLD. The service is always gracious and most efficient and the food is eclectic, tasty, creative, and tasty! Although we did not do so this last time while dining there, one of my favorite things to do is sit at the bar, order wine(s) and the charcuterie plate and just hang out eating, drinking and being merry. Good place."

  • "great atmosphere although initially i didnt expect it to actually be a little snobbish lol the guy who took our order seemed to rush us ! calm down, yo !"

  • "Heard good things about BLD, and the menu looked good online. The restaurant itself is nice, good ambiance, however we were given a table next to where staff passes in and out of kitchen. My chair got bumped into a lot with zero apologies repeatedly. The food was excellent, although my girlfriend's lamb burger arrived sans sauce, my braised short ribs were somewhat dry. We would've asked for more sauce and possibly dessert, but after food arrived out waiter was MIA. Well, not completely MIA, just repeatedly walking past our table and avoiding eye contact. It took almost 20 mins to get his attention and request the check. I would go back and hope for a more redeeming experience. Great potential. "

  • "The moment you enter you are greeted with a friendly welcome, shown to the table of your choice and kindly invited to enjoy your first beverage. I asked for a special omelette that was not on the menu and the chef de cuisine agreed to make it to order. With the servers suggestions the omelette was prepared with all of the perfect accompaniments to complement the salmon. Fresh mixed grounds for the coffee and open atmosphere make for a fine dining experience. "

  • "Overall a good experience. My partner and I frequent but it had been a long time since our last visit. Food is always good. For some reason the service took a while to visit the table but made up for it later in the evening."

  • "BLD is a wonderful place for Sunday brunch. It can be crazy busy, & service can suffer a bit, but it all gets done & the food is great."

  • "I've eaten at BLD before, but the restaurant has since changed. The food was very mediocre (some items were barely tolerable) and the service could have been friendlier and more helpful. Overall, especially compared to previous experiences, I was very disappointed."

  • "The food was lacking in overall flavor but has potential. Won't be back anytime soon."

  • "This restaurant is fine - as we say, nothing to write home about. However, the evening was spoiled by the unconvincingly chirpy waiter. Over-eager, friendly but fake, too keen to take orders, whip plates away and bring the check - one felt rushed and pressed all the time, as though in canteen, rather than allowed to relax and enjoy the meal. Food was OK. No reason to go back."

  • "I love this restaurant for brunch in particular - You feel like you've left LA when you're here. My only gripe is that the wait is often quite long- even when you have a reservation. I think we waited about 35 minutes on a 5-person reservation we made days in advance. Nonetheless, I am a repeat customer and the waitstaff and management are great and attentive once you're seated. In fairness there was a MOB of walk-in business standing out front on the day that we most recently went, and the hostess was definitely stressing."

  • "We went there on a rainy night, maybe that's why, but the food was really bad, the place was empty. Only positive part was the service."

  • "My boyfriend and I went to BLD for dinner on a Saturday night around 10 pm and surprisingly, the restaurant wasn't too crowded. Our server Andrew was great in helping us with our food and wine selection. The food itself was quite unique compared to other restaurants. I ordered the lamb burger which came with feta, cucumber yogurt sauce, arugula and red onions. It was delicious! My boyfriend got the lamb on the bone which was so flavorful and tender. I know the restaurant is known for their breakfast food, so if their dinner food was that good, I can't imagine how amazing breakfast must be! We will definitely have to go back!"

  • "...she had a blouse with tea cups on it...but don't know her name. She made the experience great. Food was a tiny, tiny bit salty (but I love salt), but was AMAZING. Lamb kefta app and spicy cauliflower was great. Flank steak and parmesan grits....delicious. Martini's NOT good, but wine was!"

  • "Had a great brunch there. Good service and we had a few kids so it was a challenge for our server. Parking was not too bad either."

  • "We were in the area and liked the look of the menu. The restaurant was nice and unassuming but still hip but note too hip that it was annoying. The noise level was low which was great. Lots of great vegan and meat options. We started with a vegan pate that was sensational; nice and smoky and creamy. My husband built his own with hemp seed encrusted tofu and I had the fried chicken and waffles. Both were delicious. The chicken was crispy but not greasy. The waffle wasn't warm like it should have been but it was still tasty. Brussel sprouts are nicely braised and seasoned. Great yellow layer cake w bittersweet frosting for dessert. With beers and tip around $100 not bad."

  • "Nice looking restaurant, but unprepared for Valentine. Foods ran out, the worst part is the servers. This was my third times come back but I never like the service, servers in this restaurant have so much attitude, you can tell by the way they serve even though they try to polite say thank you etc. I come back because it's a nice looking restaurant and close by my house other than that I wouldn't recommend to my friends."

  • "Disappointment isn't listed on the menu but I assure you, it's in no short supply at BLD. I went for Valentine's Day, excited for a tasting menu and a romantic evening. My first course was a sardine that had so many bones in it, I gave up after about two bites. The main course was an overcooked, chewy steak with the grittiest grits I've had (not an endorsement). Giving credit where it's due, the desert, a salted caramel tart, was delicious. Moving on to the service, empty glasses were not uncommon. We were checked in on maybe once during the entire duration of our meal and I practically had to flag someone down to get our check. For $45 a person, there are plenty of better places to go."

  • "Unlike a lot of other upscale eateries, BLD doesn't gouge you on V Day, instead offering a very reasonable $45 3 course prix fixe dinner with $25 extra for wine pairings. All the food was really well done, but portions were small and I would venture that bigger eaters would probably leave this dinner hungry. In the cuisine arena, BLD always satisfies with high quality, fresh ingredients and innovative choices. Service is not great. When a restaurant is offering wines to go specifically with the dish, the wine needs to arrive at the same time as the plate, not 15 minutes later. That was really a problem. Hence the 2 start service rating."

  • "This was my second visit to BLD and the ricotta blueberry pancake and chorizo egg scramble did not disappoint. the only disAppointment was the service. after getting our food we asked for ketchup three different times to get it to our tAble, asked for refill on the coffee twice but never got it, and asked for extra plates twice before they finally brought it over. The waiters and busboys were both equally bad."
