Diner Reviews
  • "We were seated promptly, menu wasn't updated as far as drinks go. Food was done well, short ribs we're fall off the bone tender. Serving size was perfect."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Apolline. The food was outstanding and the service very attentive, especially given the number of diners. We will definitely go back."

  • "The food was delicious and our server was awesome!! She was very knowledgable about the menu and wine list. We had our two-year old with us and the restuarant was loud enough that he really didnt bother anyone (we do take him out a lot so he's fairly well behaved in restuarants for his age. But he's still only two.) but it's definitely not so loud that you cant hold a conversation with your party. Definitely still romantic -- just not at a whisper level. Overall, great dinner and we will definitely be back!"

  • "Food was good but it took forever to get food. We had 7:30 dinner reservations and ordered slightly after. We received our appetizers in a timely manner but there was an approximate hour delay between appetizers and dinner."

  • "Really enjoyed my birthday dinner at Apolline. The service was very friendly and attentive but not excessive. Our waiter was great and made informative suggestions. The shrimp and grits appetizer had a wonderful sauce and the grits were so creamy. My husband rated his scallops and shrimp dinner outstanding. But save room for dessert - the chocolate mousse with cake and bread pudding ended the meal perfectly."

  • "After many trips to the quarter we finally found the great little neighborhoods along Magazine St. This restaurant was a perfect bus ride to a quiet but upscale little neigborhood - highly recommend."

  • "Great experience! I do not like fast service but this was just a tad too slow. I will go back!"

  • "A group of us dined at Apolline's on last Sunday night. Everyone throughly enjoyed the meal. The duck confit salad was outstanding. Two of us had the scallops, excellent, and we loved the hidden surprise under the corn maque choux…..bacon. It was a delicious entree. Others had the short ribs and pork chops. All in our party raved about how wonderful every course was including the desserts. We will definitely dine at Appoline's again & again. Thank you Chef Mark for a memorable dining experience."

  • "Ourr 35th wedding anniversary. Service was OK, the sweet potato andouille bisque was good, but I think they cheated by making it so sweet it was like a dessert. My wife had the filet, which she said was outstanding. I had the pork chop, which was so salty I could not eat more than half, and the quality of the meat was supermarket at best. A good chop is marbled like a good steak. If you can't find that, don't serve it. It got so loud my wife said we had to leave. We had eaten at Zea the night before, and had an outstanding meal and service. Apolline did not charge us corkage for the celebration wine we had brought with us, and we appreciated that. Overall, though, I think this restaurant is a wannabe, and needs improvement."

  • "Our waiter, the man with the beard, took about 15 minutes to take our order, even when we put the menus down and weren't talking. He also took a while to clear our plates. This is unacceptable because it was a Tuesday night and the restaurant was not crowded. That being said, the good was good. The oysters were delicious, as was the bread pudding, but my fish lacked flavor."

  • "Our dinner and predinner at the bar was fantastic. An enthusiastic bartender made a great original martini and rye Manhattan . Our meal was extremely well prepared(duck confit and scallops). Only negative but out of their control was difficulty getting cab back to French Quarter during busy convention"

  • "The restaurant itself is spectacular. Tables are positioned for good people watching and conversation. Not too loud at all. Seated just upon walking into the door. After being seated, we waited a good 10 minutes before anyone even came to fill our water glasses. It wasn't really all that busy so I'm not sure why the wait. For an appetizer I had the charbroiled oysters. Bland. For my entree I had the beef short rib. Again, bland. I rarely find a need to put salt and pepper on my food, but this food was just so bland. There was a short rib and grits and mushrooms. The mushrooms were tasty, but everything else was so flavorless. All in all, beautiful ambiance and a great time with my pal, but won't be returning for the food."

  • "The menu is limited to three-four items per category, and the wine list is on the smallish side, but wonderful things come out of that kitchen, and there is a wine for every taste and price range. My companion and I both had the heirloom tomato salad; I had fish as my main course, and the other main course was a filet. Both were wonderful. I had the peanut-y dessert (I can't remember the name), and it was one of the best things I have ever eaten. And they have a great cocktail menu with inventive names and combinations. Please go and enjoy!"

  • "The food was excellent!!! Charbroiled oysters cooked to perfection. The scallops were wonderful. Reservations definitely recommended as we were there the day before Mardi Gras. Will be back….soon!!!"

  • "The food is good but it comes out sooooo slow. This is a relatively small restaurant so this should not be an issue, especially since they have been open for business for a few years now. I have given them several chances and each time they have failed miserably. Next time I want good food AND good service, I will go to one of the many other restaurants in the city. I am done with this one."

  • "APPOLLINE IS A GREAT RESTAURANT! My wife and I visited last night and left very satisfied. Great Ambience and good service. Started with house Cab and enjoyed. Chargrilled Oysters were very light compared to Dragos but incredible in both taste and freshness, the melted grated Pecorini cheese puts them over the top. We ordered a second dozen. Duck Balls good. Then we tried Sweet Potatoe and Andouille Bisque. OMG, that was one of the most incredible soups I have ever eaten(Heaven). Entree Pan Seared Diver Scallops Corn Maque Choux, Bacon Plank. Best scallop dish I have ever had, PERIOD! The sweetness of the corn and the saltiness of the bacon plank work great with perfectly cooked scallops. Flavor Explosion. New "go to place" for us!"

  • "There were so many possibilities in New Orleans we chose this restaurant based on the reviews on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed. The food was superb, the service excellent and the atmosphere friendly and family like. We had the heirloom tomato salad and l had the sweet potato bisque flavored with Andouille; it was superb and I heartily recommend this dish. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the Beeler's Pork Chop with whipped potatoes and I had the Divers Scallops with corn Maque Choux and both were amazing. We had to pass on dessert. Too bad because the 'Hootie Tootie' pie really sounded good. The owner did stop by our table after we finished our meal and made sure everything was okay. A very nice touch for a special evening for us."

  • "We've been to Nola about 6 times and each trip includes new restaurants. Apolline was so wonderful and such a nice surprise. We met with friends who had never been to Nola and everyone loved it here. Try the scallops/shrimp over corn & bacon, smoked & grilled pork chop and short ribs. Everything was made to perfection, even the cocktails. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to experience fine cooking. Thanks for a great meal!"

  • "I had a very nice dinner for two here. The outstanding items we had were the pork chop and the bread pudding. I will go back for these two things alone. The short rib and duck confit salad were very good. I had the pork cheek ragu pappardelle as well which reminded me of deconstructed lasagna with the san marzano tomatoes and ricotta. It was an okay dish, nothing wrong with it but nothing really noteworthy. The service was outstanding. Courtney took excellent care of us. Her wine service was great and any drink needing refill was done right on time. The table was properly mis en placed before each course and food was served open arm. The ambiance is bright and modern in an old classic new orleans double shotgun."

  • "You can not go to New Orleans without dining at Apolline!! Every single we have ever had there has been exquisite! And we have taken some big groups there. Without a doubt try the Beeler Pork Chop.....to die for!"

  • "We made reservations for 11 am on a Sunday, but it didn't seem we needed them. The restaurant was not very busy. We were seated immediately. Bottomless mimosas are $12 and the waiter was great about staying on top of replenishing the large glasses. The bacon appetizer was delicious and not too heavy of a starter. I had the chicken and French toast entree--I highly recommend. The chicken was moist and complemented the French toast perfectly. I would love to try dinner here."

  • "This restaurant was very romantic. I went on a Wednesday, so it was quiet. The best part was on Wednesday they have a wine special, it has a list of wines for $5/glass. I really enjoyed the scallops with corn mache cheux and the shrimp in grits was some of the best I've had."

  • "Our recent dinner, our first visit to Apolline, was, overall, a little disappointing. Service was okay, but a little scattered. The menu was solid but lacked spark; nothing on it was surprising. The chargrilled oysters were plump and showcased the oyster -- but seemed bland and underseasoned. Despite assurances that the pork chop would not be cooked past medium, it was (flavor was good, and it wasn't quite dried out, but it was dense and a little tough). Short ribs were good, but monotonal. Dessert (ganache tart and peanut butter ice cream) was too sweet. Highlights: Sweet potato and Andouille soup was very good; cocktails were creative. We wanted to like the restaurant, but both agreed there wasn't any compelling reason to return."

  • "My wife and I had a wonderful dinner at Apolline. Everything from the atmosphere, the service, the cocktails, and especially the food was spectacular. We look forward to returning back for dinner, or maybe even their brunch that we've heard so much about."

  • "I have never filled out a negative review before. but this was one of the worst dining experiences I can recall. terrible service horrible food . Not to mention by the time (over 1 hour after our reservation) they told us they were out of everything except eggs"

  • "Wish we only had a free night to try it for dinner. Only down side was the cab ride, make sure you have the address, so new cabbies don't know where it is. Had to wait forever for a cab to pick us up. Total cab fare from downtown both ways was $33.00 with tip. If you have a car take it."

  • "I had the pleasure of dining at Apolline twice recently for my 50th birthday weekend. My group sampled a sizable portion of the dinner, brunch and cocktail menus and every thing we had was stunning. All of the ingredients are farm(or sea)-to-table fresh and the traditional dishes, like the shrimp and grits we had at brunch, honor the original concepts while adding their own creative and welcome flair. Simply put, two of the best meals of my life. Chef Matt is a rock star and Mark (cocktails), Sharon (desserts/breads -- the rolls are worth the trip alone) and Courtney (service) are some killer bandmates."

  • "This is by far a hidden gem in the New Orleans area. We went there based on a promotional offer received and the ambiance, food, and attention to detail made it an extraordinary birthday celebration for my spouse. The later it got the more alive and vibrant the restaurant became with local flair."
